Living in NY during “The Troubles” I vividly remember the turmoil and images broadcast on the TV. Taking the tour was extremely enlightening and Dan, our guide, was very considerate of the feelings that caught me off guard. This tour changed my perspective and I would highly recommend it as an essential experience in Northern Ireland. We were honored to sign the Peace Wall and hope that healing and understanding change the next generation.

Itinerary
You will see the wall art of west Belfast murals the peace wall and some memorial gardens
Your Belfast Murals Tour begins in the Shankill Road area of Belfast which is (Protestant/British), where your Black Taxi Cab driver will explain a detailed history of the area. We begin in 1690, when William of orange arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998. You will go for a short walk around the area, where your black taxi cab driver will explain the loyalist murals Belfast has in the area and what they represent. You will have the opportunity to take your own photographs of the Belfast murals.
The peace walls were designed to separate the Catholic (Nationalist) and Protestant (Unionist) populations in Belfast. The first ‘peace lines’ were erected, following the outbreak of violence in 1969 in Northern Ireland. They were built as temporary structures, meant to last only six months. Due to their effective nature, they were built higher, longer, and made permanent and are still here today. The peace walls are adorned with art and messages of hope from tourists.
You will visit Clonard Martyrs Memorial garden in Bombay Street in the black taxi cab tour. Bombay Street in Belfast is where some say the modern troubles began when Catholics were burnt out of their homes. This is also where the Provisional IRA was formed. Each section of this garden will be explained in detail and the reasons it exists. The next stop on the tour will be Sinn Fein press office, which is the site of one of the most iconic Falls Road murals of the Bobby Sands mural. You will hear about the history of Bobby Sands and the Irish hunger strike in the Maze Prison in 1981.
The final stop will be the International Wall, where you will see a variety of different murals in Belfast. The murals have a general theme of ‘highlighting oppression’ – from the race riots in America in 1969 to current events in Palestine.

Without reading any reviews, and just picking a random phone number from Google, I was delighted we ended up with Glen . This lovely young man gave three generations of us a totally unbiased account of The Troubles enlightening me on things that weren't on the news over the water. Glen shared personal information about growing up in Belfast, i must say that he's a credit to his folks who reared a boy in scary times and I'm happy to see him, and others, making a living out their wee country's history . At least some good has come out the rubble eh . Glen gave us his all, a bitta the craic, along with a factual account of tragic events . Guaranteed you won't be disappointed with this fella. Thank you Glen ☘️
Eamon was our driver/guide. What an amazing guide we found him to be. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the Troubles. He was fair, equitable to each side and very thorough. Eamon lived through the Troubles which gave a depth of information and humanity to his presentation that was breathtaking and even heartbreaking. We could NOT have had a better guide!!! We will always be thankful and grateful for our Black taxi private tour and for Eamon in particular. It was truly an eye opening and emotional trip into the past. Thank you to viator and to our inimitable host Eamon. Truly Alex and Terri.
Jody was amazing on our tour today. We are so lucky to have for him as our driver and person that was so educated and real on the tour today. Good chat, nice and comfy big car, best photographer / thank you so much! Jane and Jen
We had an amazing 90 minutes with Glen. It was an unforgettable and eye opening experience to learn about the Troubles from someone who was knowledgeable, objective and engaging. We were made to feel very comfortable to ask questions about the events and history throughout this period of time. He shared personal but balanced stories to help us better understand the effects and impact the Troubles had on two local communities. It was a memorable part of our stay in Belfast and we would highly recommend…thanks Glen.
I absolutely loved this tour. The guide Danny . L was amazing his knowledge and the way he explained everything made it a throughly great experience (what a lovely man !) I highly recommend it, we are planning on a return and I’d go as far to say I’d do it again ! Thank you Danny.L you’re a top man! 👍
Booked directly through company website. Pick up is in city centre and a short walk from our hotel. Clean, modern minivan and on a very rainy day we were glad to be toasty inside. Our guide was excellent. Mural tour was informative and we learned so much that we had never heard before. Tour took about an hour in length. Highly recommend
We loved our tour! Eugene was very knowledgeable and friendly. The politics and religion were definitely presented in a neutral way. Very fact based and interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
Excellent tour, many thanks Glen.
Informative guide. John was able to provide historical and modern context to better our understanding of the divide between Republicans and Unionists.
Isaac was very friendly and informative. Very nice and comfortable black Mercedes van (we were expecting and old school black cab but that was okay) and we saw the Troubles from both sides. I liked the way Isaac spoke from each sides perspective when he was in that territory and didn’t tell us whether he was Protestant or Catholic so we could guess at the end
Went on the cab tour with some family members during a recent trip to Belfast. It was booked for us by my brother who had recently experienced the tour himself and highly recommended it. Our guide was Stevie, a thoroughly nice guy who had excellent knowledge and presented the tour in a balanced, unbiased way. He was happy to answer any questions we had and kept everyone hanging on to every word through the whole tour. The cab took us through the different communities and Stevie told us about the history and meaning behind everything. It was a really valuable learning experience to be able to hear from someone who actually lived through the troubles. It was certainly a morning well-spent. I would say this tour is a must-do if you’re visiting Belfast.
Wonderful tour - Kieran, our guide, did an excellent job of showing us the locations that bring the story of Northern Ireland to life. A must-do in the city.
Our tour guide Glenn was superb and very informative. We don't think we could have asked fir a better tour guide.
If you want to experience something unique in Belfast, I highly recommend taking this tour. Our guide Stevie took us on a journey of what it was like to survive The Troubles and throughly explain what it was like.
Fascinating. We wanted to go to Belfast to visit the Titanic experience, we had a free morning and so booked cab tours belfast. The Titanic was good but the black cab tour was excellent. It was so informative and an eduction. Danny L was an excellent guide. I highly recommend this tour.
Daniel was a great guide. Very informative tour and a lot we did not know.
We had a wonderful time with our guide and driver, Steve. He did a great job of explaining the local political history and showed us photos from books of them and now. would highly recommend this tour with this company.
My teenage son and I had a fabulous tour of the city with Glen , our driver and guide. Glen was informative and engaging describing the history of Ireland and the city and shared his personal stories without any bias . Highly recommended !
Belfast Lad black taxi tour with Frank/Mickey was amazing. Excellent perspective and timely insight along with personal stories. A moving educational experience.
This was an outstanding tour. We originally thought we would just read up on it ourselves and then go look at the murals and the wall, since we have a rental car, but we decided at the last minute that it would be easier to do this rather than find out way around. We did it for convenience but found that in terms of the education and really having the situation impressed upon us, this was excellent and we DEFINITELY left with a much deeper understanding than some Wikipedia entries ever could have given us. Highly recommend. Tour guide was informative and engaging, and shared his personal experiences growing up in the area, which added so much. Thank you!
Excellent trip, Jordy was fantastic, easy to listen to, friendly and full of Knowledge explaining both sides of Belfasts history
Very informative and engaging tour from Danny - he gave us an honest and unbiased accounts of the troubles and the current situation. This was a real eye opener and I would like 100% recommend
We had a fantastic Black Taxi Tour with Jordy from Cab Tours Belfast! Jordy was outstanding! So knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Belfast, and he shared so many fascinating stories and insights. We never felt rushed and had plenty of time to ask questions, take photos and really take it all in. Not only was he a brilliant guide, but also such a genuine, lovely person who clearly loves what he does. We learnt so much and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. If you’re visiting Belfast, I couldn’t recommend Cab Tours Belfast and Jordy highly enough. An absolute must-do!
Informative and immersive. Great way to learn about the Troubles from people who lived through the conflict.
Not enough enough stars to grade the experience we had with guide Glen, who was incredibly professional, articulate and friendly. Anyone visiting Belfast should take the tour.
First off, kudos to Danny L., our driver/guide. He was knowledgeable, professional, and passionate about the history. He provided an unbiased summary of each location visited. It was a truly an eye opening experience. I would highly recommend this tour for folks to get a sense and feel of Northern Ireland, Belfast, and its people.
We booked this tour because it was the company which combines both Protestant and Catholic guides into one, and we like this concept. At the start of our tour, we were introduced to Martin, and he said he wasn't going to tell us which side he was from. We could make our own minds up as the tour went on, but if he was any good, we wouldn't know. We were so impressed at how neutral he was throughout, and it was very difficult to make a decision by the end. The tour was meant to last 90 minutes but lasted 2 hours. We met just to the left of the City Hall building by a row of shops and we were dropped back to the same location. We made various stops in the cab and got to ask lots of questions and make photo stops too. We got shown various items and had the chance to sign the Peace Wall. We did feel a little ignorant at the start of the tour, and as it went on, as we discovered lots of new things. Martin reassured us that we were not alone. Most people who did the tour were in a similar position to us, and it was good to learn about another side of Belfast. At the end of it, we felt we'd had a real education and were so surprised by some of the things we'd seen. An absolute must-do and brilliant value. A great way to start off your time in Belfast. Thank you, Martin!
Fantastic insight into the history behind the troubles, from someone who lived through it. Found out so much. Really Friendly, helpful driver. Very definitely worth doing this trip.
This tour was very informative and we both learned so much. It’s a must-do on a visit to Belfast in my opinion.
Glen gave us a great tour and was generous with his time and insights about the troubles. He was very disclosing about his inherent bias and presented the history with a focus on the facts and bringing home that those involved were real people with families. He welcomed any question which made the tour feel like a safe space to ask sensitive topics. Well worth the time and money, we learned so much and highly recommend!
The Belfast Black Taxi Tour is outstanding!! I can HIGHLY, HIGHLY, recommend this tour for anyone who wants to learn about "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland. Our guide, Don, was exceptional!! He was very knowledgeable, insightful, and really cared about giving us a true understanding about what it was like during such a difficult time in Northern Ireland's history. He even took the time to answered all of my questions. I don't know if you can request a specific driver when you make your reservation. But, if you can, request Don. He is outstanding!!
We loved our tour with Don. He was deeply knowledgeable, reverent and a great storyteller. We were so happy to be able to ask any question and receive a thoughtful response. Also the tour was quite balanced presenting the history of Northern Ireland and especially the troubles in a way that felt charitable but honest to both sides. A real highlight of our whole Irish trip. Thanks Don!
We specifically chose this tour because it is listed as having both Protestant and Catholic owners, so we thought it would have the best chance of being as unbiased as possible. While our guide made an effort to be unbiased, it was clear which side he supported. It is difficult for someone who has lived through the Troubles to do this, or for anyone really, so that may have been a tall order. What this tour does do is take you to several key places on both sides and allow you time to get out and take photos or questions, so is a good starting point if you don't know anything about what happened in Belfast. I was disappointed that the vehicle was not actually a "Black Cab" as that was part of the experience we wanted and when this was mentioned to the guide, he said that their company is "Cab tours", not Black Cab tours. While this is technically true, the website does mention Black Cab tour several times, and has photos of Black cabs, so I felt this was a bit misleading. While this is often billed as one of the MUST do things in Belfast, unless you really want to see the gardens and monuments, you could probably get the overall cheaper on the Hop on/off bus. There was good communication about changes to the pickup due to a marathon in the city, although there were several cabs parked there and it was not immediately obvious which one we should go to. This could be improved by a sign or perhaps letting us know the licence plate of the cab beforehand. The guide was able to drop us at the Crumlin Jail afterwards which was nice. He was friendly and had supporting documents which helped explain the tour.
This tour led by Isaac was the highlight of our trip. He was very unbiased and answered all of our questions patiently and thoroughly. The fact that he was our contemporary and lived in Belfast throughout the Troubles and now taught us more than any reading our documentary could. I highly recommend this tour and especially Isaac.
Highly recommend!! Glen gave my husband and I a fantastic tour today. We did the 90 minute Mural and Peace Wall tour. We appreciated so much how he presented both sides of of the conflict and his first hand knowledge and experience. He made us feel very welcome, encouraged questions and pictures. We left with some dinner recommendations which we really appreciated as we had a great meal after. Definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Kieran was a great guide. He was very passionate about Northern Ireland and the Troubles. I learned a lot.
We booked this tour on our recent 5 day stay in Belfast. I did not know much about the history of the unrest in Belfast. The pick up location was downtown and easy to walk to from our hotel. It was just us in the car with our driver, Eamon. For about 90 minutes we were driven around the city and given all of the history of the conflicts, shown the wall and gates, which still stand to this day. We would get out of the taxi from time to time to hear more and take photos. Our driver grew up in Belfast and was able to recount different things from his experiences. I am not knowledgeable about the history of this situation and I learned so much. I am so glad we booked this tour.
We really enjoyed our tour. Don, our driver and guide was excellent. He really helped us to see where and how these important historical events occurred.
We had a lovely afternoon with Sean our driver who was extremely knowledgeable about his home city. We all learned a lot and were amazed at how quickly this beautiful city had transformed into a sought after destination. Sean stopped at the Peace Wall and we were able to sign a personal message. Great afternoon thanks Sean
Excellent review of the history and fighting in Northern Ireland. Stevie, our guide, was very knowledgeable and patient when we asked him multiple questions. Definitely a must do!
Our guide was Stevie and we really like the tour with him. It was an all around great experience with a lot of information but it was never boring. Stevie told the history of the city with a neutral point of view, which is really good. We liked his sense of humour but still he could smile more often😉(that's an insider) . Greetings to him from Angie, Luca, Johanna and Netti
Excellent tour with Donny L - lots of information from a very pleasant tour guide who has lived it day to day since he was born! Good to see a lot of places we had only heard about - stories are sad and tragic but the people resilient and strong! A highly personal way to experience the city's political murals, Peace Walls and the current climate! Ritu & Michael from USA
I thought it would be an actual Black Cab, however it turned out to be a Van which is fine because we our luggage with us. Our guide John, was excellent.
An eye opening tour of the Belfast ‘Troubles’ locations. Liam our driver was knowledgeable, friendly and went out of his way to make this ‘Our’ personal tour. Thank you Liam.
We had an awesome time on our Cab Tours Belfast tour! Our driver, Jordy Mullen, was fantastic — friendly, knowledgeable and made the whole experience really enjoyable. We learnt so much about Belfast and the history of Northern Ireland, and Jordy explained everything in a really interesting and engaging way. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. We would highly recommend Jordy and Cab Tours Belfast to anyone visiting Belfast. Thanks for an unforgettable experience! 🇮🇪👏
Fabulous tour very enlightening Brad was a great guide
We had a wonderful experience with our guide Byrian. Very knowledgeable guide who provides perspectives from both sides and includes very real insight from his personal experiences.
A very enjoyable tour with our very knowledgeable guide Issac. He showed us both view points of the conflict.. The tour allows you a physicality in an area you normally wouldn’t see while in Belfast.
Kieran was awesome. Provided first hand knowledge of the Belfast history. Life and conflict still exists around the peace wall.
