We learned a lot on this tour. Tucker, our guide, was friendly and gave us an even-handed explanation of the troubles. We visited the murals, the peace wall, affected neighborhoods… it was a really sobering experience in some ways but so worthwhile. Then we went to the prison, which has a really well done self-guided tour. Lots of holographic presentations. Really excellent experience.

Learn the history of the old gaol that housed the most feared prisoners of northern Ireland during the troubles
Taxi tour of Belfast wall murals of the shankill road and the falls road as well as taking in the peace wall in West belfast
Your Belfast Murals Tour begins in the Shankill Road area of Belfast which is (Protestant/British), where your Black Taxi Cab driver will explain a detailed history of the area. We begin in 1690, when William of orange arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998. You will go for a short walk around the area, where your black taxi cab driver will explain the loyalist murals Belfast has in the area and what they represent. You will have the opportunity to take your own photographs of the Belfast murals.
The peace walls were designed to separate the Catholic (Nationalist) and Protestant (Unionist) populations in Belfast. The first ‘peace lines’ were erected, following the outbreak of violence in 1969 in Northern Ireland. They were built as temporary structures, meant to last only six months. Due to their effective nature, they were built higher, longer, and made permanent and are still here today. The peace walls are adorned with art and messages of hope from tourists.
The final stop will be the International Wall, where you will see a variety of different murals in Belfast. The murals have a general theme of ‘highlighting oppression’ – from the race riots in America in 1969 to current events in Palestine.

Very worthwhile and insightful. Especially returning to Belfast after having lived and studied in Belfast and leaving in 1988. Sincerely great to see many things have moved on and in time with education and time future generations will not go through what their forebears did. There is hope and hard work ahead. Thank you. Ian
Danny our driver, was an absolute font of knowledge. He provided a clear explanation of both viewpoints.
Our Black Cab Tour of Belfast was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip to Ireland. Our guide, Bran, grew up during the Troubles and shared not only the history of the Falls Road, Shankill Road, Peace Walls and memorials, but his own extraordinary experiences of living through that time. Bran’s family background gave him a very personal perspective on both sides of the divide, and hearing his childhood memories while standing in the actual streets where these events happened was incredibly powerful. He was open, engaging and happy to answer all our questions without making the tour feel like a history lecture. We also added the Crumlin Road Gaol tour to our Black Cab experience, which was well worth doing and complemented the tour perfectly Seeing the murals and memorials, hearing the stories behind them and signing the Peace Wall was something we won’t forget. If you want to understand Belfast beyond the usual tourist sights, we would highly recommend this tour.
Exceptional tour. Very insightful & thought provoking. The information issued & gleaned about the Troubles was so interesting and gave a real insight into this ongoing history. The gaol tour is very well done and a coffee, tasting & cake in Wing A - now occupied by O’Connells Distillery was the perfect end to a “must see” experience.
Really enjoyed the tour. Grateful for a greater understanding of the troubles and the feelings on both sides.
Our tour guide Jordy was kind, informed, and engaging as he led us through the conflict in Belfast. We learned so much (even as avid history buffs). It was easy to connect with Jordy at our meetup point and our tour didn't feel rushed even as we saw so many things. Our teen really enjoyed the stops to get out and explore some of the sites. We all found it so insightful and reflective. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Belfast.
We had a fabulous tour today with Jordy, he really made the experience personal and informative. We all really enjoyed his insights into growing up in Belfast. The tour itself is interesting and brings home the history of the troubles.
6 stars. Shain was amazing. Highly knowledgeable and very good with my elderly in laws. His personal touches were sad but a good opportunity to get a feel for how hard it was for anyone in Belfast. He told both sides of the story. Highly recommend this tour and especially Shain.
Eugene was the best. He had a first hand experience of the rich and terrifying history that only Belfast could offer. Wouldn't trade this tour for a 100 castles.
Family and I had a wonderful experience with Tucker - incredible insights and lots of laughs along the way. A great way to learn a difficult history of an amazing city. One of the best tours we’ve ever done anywhere in the world.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and personal experiences of growing up during the troubles. Your tour presented as unbiased and showed respect for both sides. We definitely recommend a tour with Danny from cab tours. Thanks!
Brilliant, interesting tour. Jordon our driver was great and very knowledgeable.
Thoroughly enjoyed and our guide was informative and quite knowledgeable. I like that before driving anywhere he gave us a bit of education and history. My complaint only is that I expected an English black cab as picture and description depicted but instead it was a black Mercedes van which being bigger made it harder to hear. That was disappointing.
7 of us had the most amazing experience, guided by the inimitable Isaac in his 7 seater Mercedes! Can't recommend this company highly enough. Thank you Isaac for opening our eyes to both sides in equal measure.
This tour is an absolute must if you are visiting Belfast. Martin, our guide, was brilliant and gave a fascinating if quite sad insight into how politics has influenced life in the city.
It wasn't quite clear where we had to pick the taxi up. We were given a number and Street name ie 3 Donegal Square East but really it's the taxi stand (like a bus stop) on the pavement outside that address. Luckily our driver for the tour, Jake, was there waiting for us and approached us and welcomed us into his very clean taxi cab. Jake was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and gave a completely unbiased review. We learnt many things about the troubles, a lot of which surprised us and our hearts went out to all those innocent people who died and suffered during those times. The tour itself stopped about 3 or 4 times, where we got out of the taxi to walk around particular areas in order to see and experience things properly and I must admit, it was a bit of a struggle for us getting in and out as we are disabled, plus it was raining, which obviously could not be controlled, although Jake provided us with adequate cover by way of a good size umbrella each. After the taxi tour we were dropped at Crumlin Road Gaol, where Jake took us to the entrance and made sure we had our tickets and knew what to do before leaving us. The gaol itself was very interesting as well but again was a little overshadowed by our disabilities because of the amount of standing, watching videos about the particular areas of the gaol we were in. There were seats in some of the areas but not enough. Even though we could not manage to spend as much time as we would have liked there, because of the lack of seating by the videos, we thoroughly enjoyed the tour and just wished that we could have spent the time to absorb everything more thoroughly.
Our first trip to Belfast. This was by far the best part of the entire visit. Our driver was first rate, he was funny, he was friendly but above all he was informative - we all leant so much, it was enlightening.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and told us a great deal of information. It was a real eye opening experience and I suggest others take part to learn more about not just the history of Belfast but the current ongoings as well.
The whole trip was excellent. Our driver was brilliant made the tour more enjoyable with his wit and knowledge of the troubles.
What an amazing and informative tour! Our guide, Danny, was so knowledgeable and passionate about his country and history, making it an interesting and very moving experience. He also tailored the morning to our needs. The service and communication with the company is outstanding and the tour conducted in a comfortable way. Highly recommended!
Stevie was one of a kind. Great guide and really informative. The tour is a real eye opener
Fabulous, many stops for an opportunity to get up close and personal to memorial gardens and various murals. Our driver, Jake was absolutely amazing full of stories about the troubles and the impact that continues to touch the next generations. Crumlin Gaol very interesting, like how it was set up with displays and videos
The tour was excellent, well narrated, informative with plenty of opportunities to stop and take pictures. From what is clearly a very difficult subject, our guide was balanced and fair with everything shown. From
This tour and Ian were absolutely magnificent. The knowledge Ian possesses and how he relayed it to us was perfect. He was very personable and very engaging, plus he gave us plenty of time at each location to fully understand the history. The Crumlin Road Gaol was a self guided tour and very worthwhile to visit. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone who has the time and desire to learn about a very important part of Northern Ireland history.
Martin was a fabulous guide. He gave us a lot of information and answered our specific questions. Highly recommended
What an exceptional, personal and authentic experience I had with Dan H. last Sunday! Dan was personable, engaging and tremendously thought provoking. My tour lasted three hours and nothing was repeated. Dan took me to some of the most shocking and fantastic scenes in the Belfast landscape and provided not only historical but contemporary facts that are still prevalent today in the community. I am so grateful for this opportunity and to be paired with Dan. Please make the time, you will not regret it. Thank you Dan and Belfast.
What a fantastic informative and very enthusiastic tour from Danny.L today! We learnt so much and he gave us great unbiased tour around the areas that The Troubles happened. Saw lots and learnt more! Would definitely recommend!
A mesmerizing experience! My guide, Martin, was amazing and very insightful about the history of the places we were passing by while driving. I found myself interested in every little detail that was being revealed. Poignant moments: passing through the gates that separate the communities and definitely the prison. While wandering through the prison, I felt like I was a prisoner there as well. The rest.... well, you have to see for yourself :)
Excellent experienced guide Great company to deal with. So knowledgeable and caring. Highly recommend them
We booked our guided tour knowing a little bit about the troubles but what an experience it turned out . Our cab driver Brian lived through it as a young boy and gave us his account, I must say it was so in depth and extremely emotional. I would strongly recommend this tour to all who are interested the history of Belfast .The murals , remembrance gardens and peace wall are something I will never forget.
We had Danny - what a brilliant guy, very informative and gave us a true insight into the area and what went, and still goes on. I could have travelled round and listened to Danny’s knowledge and own experiences all day. Highly recommend this tour, especially as I was quite naive as to the current situation of affairs. After our tour Danny dropped us off and took us into the Gaol and gave us good information on how to get back to the city centre (especially on a wet January morning) Great experience that everyone should go on
Danny L was a great guide for this tour, speaking from experience he really brought things to life. Still need to get started on all the homework he gave us though 🤣 Would recommend this to any one visiting Belfast with little or no prior knowledge of the troubles and even those who think they know!
Isaac was so friendly and informative today. He totally put us at ease and told the story of the troubles from both sides with no judgement or bias. He gave us a lot of information to take in, plenty of stops to take photos. I would like to go back and do it all again now! Highly recommend this company who are owned by both Catholic and protestant.
Absolutely first class tour. Gary was phenomenal and very informative. Great way to see Belfast. Such a beautiful city with beautiful people. We will definitely be doing this again. Thanks again.
Danny L, very enthusiastic, passionate and energetic throughout the tour. Diving straight into the history providing non-stop narrative throughout . Well recommended.
Danny was an amazing guide. His unbiassed information across all sites and lifting knowledge was fantastic. Not afraid to show the gritty reality whilst reflecting the fact that the city has improved. A very eye opening tour. I would highly recommend this tour and Danny as a guide to anyone wanting a view of the Troubles, not generally seen or read of.
Martin was a first rate guide; as knowledgeable as they come. If you get him or someone equally knowledgeable, you will learn a lot, maybe more than you want to know!
This tour is well worth taking to gain an understanding of the history of the Troubles. Kieran my guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Belfast. The Crumlin tour was fascinating and also an integral part of Belfast history. I'd recommend this tour for anyone visiting Belfast
Big Jim gave us an incredible tour all around a large number of iconic and profound sights, often parking up the cab and guiding us personally around various locations. His personal and heartfelt commentary was riveting and it's clear he has great knowledge and immense understanding of the history of the area.
We had an awesome experience with Big Jim as our guide - genial, so knowledgeable and generous, made for a stunning and memorable tour. Highly recommend - and particularly so if you are lucky enough to land Big Jim!!! Jamie
Danny L was fantastic! His depth of knowledge about the Troubles and how it continues to shape life in Belfast today was remarkable. As we visited key sites from both sides of the conflict, Danny provided rich historical context while also explaining how the city has worked toward becoming a better place for everyone—though still grappling with challenges that remain. What stood out was his honesty: he didn’t shy away from the harsh realities of the Troubles, acknowledging that while the bombings have ceased, conflict lingers in the form of violence tied to drugs and fractured family structures. At the end of the tour, Danny dropped us off at the old Gaol and generously shared a list of books and films about the Troubles, along with recommendations for restaurants and pubs to experience authentic Irish culture in Belfast. Well done, Danny L.!
Very, very ,very disappointed! This was suppose to be a black cab experience…we ended up in an older grey ford van. Not at all the experience that I had paid for on Tripadvisor.Information was fine but the transportation was very disappointing. This tour is definitely not advertised correctly. I feel like I was scammed. Not sure about using Trip Advisor moving forward.
Thomas gave us an amazing tour of Belfast. We visited the hanging bridge, giant causeway, distillery, hidden shrubs, and the murals in Belfast. He was very enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgeable about every detail on our trip. We highly recommend using him on your trip to Belfast.
We had Kieran as our driver and he picked us up on time and gave us an amazing experience. He was knowledgeable , friendly, considerate and respectful. There were 4 sisters in our group and we loved every minute. He made the streets come alive and although we grew up in Ireland, he told us a lot that we didn’t know. He even gave us markers to write our message on the Peace Wall. We were sorry when the tour ended at the jail but he gave us things to look out for while we were in there and genuinely wanted us to enjoy the day. Can’t recommend this combo tour highly enough. Our price included dinner and a drink at Cuffs in the jail and was well worth it.
Stevie was so accommodating. He answered any and all questions. Provided amazing insight to the history of the troubles.
What an excellent experience. Anyone coming to Belfast must do this tour. A personal, eye opening, non biased and informative guide to the "Troubles". Our guide, Isaac was so insightful, personable and honest, with a bit of humour for good measure. He gave us a real understanding of what it meant to grow up in Belfast and gave us a new perspective.
This was one of the most profound tours I have been to. Ian was such a knowledgeable and considered guide. He gave us impartial information and time to explore the sites ourselves. I haven’t stopped thinking about the tour every since.
One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter! Such poignant words will stay with me forever. Stevie’s passion as our driver and guide never faltered during our tour. My questions (sometimes slightly ignorant ) were answered with ease and thoughtfulness. I learnt so much about this tragic time and am so pleased we took the time to add this to our itinerary. Stevie escorted us into the Crumlin Road Gaol and made sure we were aware of all we needed to know before heading off! Top tour, thank you
Absolutely great tour Danny L was just brilliant very straight and honest about the tour of both sides told the truth as it was .. Hopefully peace can move everyone forward 🙏
