Our Troubles History Tour with Diarmaid was the highlight of our trip to Belfast. It may seem odd to say this given the content of the tour, but I can't speak highly enough of Diarmaid, his kindness and first-hand knowledge of Belfast during The Troubles. Diarmaid picked us up right outside our residence. He gave us a comprehensive intro to the times and the tour. He was fair and balanced in his delivery, while also extremely personable and lighthearted throughout. My friend had recommended Diarmaid and I want to pass it forward. I can only say how amazing Caolan was from the beginning to end. His commentary, explanations and visual additions made the tour more personal and emotional. It was an amazing insight into the history of the troubled past of Belfast and beyond. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide, wonderful.

I booked the tour for our group of 6 for Oct. 10th and our driver/guide was Caolan and we could not have asked for a better tour guide. We learned so much from him and could have done the tour several hours longer. It was very informative and we all enjoyed the tour and Caolan so very much. We all said that we were so glad we booked this tour and you will not regret taking this tour. We had 6 in our group and the van was very comfortable and we were picked up on time. We stayed to far to be dropped off at the same place so they dropped us off at the Titanic Museum. Thank you Caolan for a great tour!!!

Diarmaid was my fantastic guide on this wonderful trip. One that really knows from being local as could be evidenced by the number of people that approached him on one of the sides ! He was so knowledgeable and friendly on his tour with just the two of us. He gave so much information from living through some of the troubles from both sides with plenty of time at various stops for photos and was very happy to answer any questions. The trip lasted longer than the original time I thought it would do and he also dropped me off at my next stop. I think it was great value for money and would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to expand on their knowledge. Thank you Diarmaid.

A great couple of hours of insight into Northern Irelands troubled history. I apologise now for getting our guides name wrong ....but Diarmaid?? was superb. A local man who's knowledge was excellent. This was one of the best tours I have ever been on. The driver Dtarmaid picked me up early and from the start he was very personable. Being that his family and friends were all affected by The troubles made the tour more authentic. He took me to every place I wanted to see and answered every one of my questions while being impartial and honest about the conflict. I can’t thank Dtarmaid enough he was an awesome guide and person. He made my trip to Belfast worthwhile. I know feel like I have a friend in (Northern) Ireland.

Belfast's Past (Taxi/Cab) Tour Company were excellent to deal with for the day. We were picked up at our hotel, air conditioned transport with cold bottled water to drink on the journey around Belfast. No other words to describe this tour today other than WOW, a wonderful insight into the history of the conflict in Belfast. Our tour guide Caolan was superb in explaining the history of each part of the tour, really informative, would answer any questions we had, along with taking photos of the murals on each and every building along the way. We are super happy with the service we received today and we loved this tour. It is a must if you are visiting Belfast. Do not miss out, this is a one of a kind look into the past, present and future of the people of Belfast.

We cannot speak highly enough about this tour. Diarmaid was professional and timely, while also being very authentic and highly knowledgeable. We knew a little bit about what went on, but seeing where everything happened and getting the firsthand perspective is a completely different take, and a necessary one here in Belfast. This was an excellent tour. We were picked up and dropped back to our hotel which was perfect as we had limited time before our flight home. More importantly, Diarmaid, our driver and guide was excellent and we learned an awful lot in the short time we spent with him. Our only regret is that the tour couldn’t have gone on longer. I would highly recommend it.

Thoroughly enjoyed our time spent with our guide, Diarmaid Monaghan. He was informative about this time in history and was able to add some personal perspective as he still lived locally. In addition to knowledgeable, Diarmaid was friendly and personable.

This is a not to be missed tour if you are in Belfast. It is well worth it and Diarmaid did an incredible job in not only showing us around and providing the historical context, but also in ensuring that we were well entertained and had all of our questions answered. I can highly recommend this tour. Our guide Diarmaid, who grew up and lives in the area, was beyond brilliant. He was professional, informed, fascinating and clearly has considerable knowledge of the history of the area. Along with a balanced and reasoned presentation of the facts, Diarmaid readily answered our questions and engaged with us throughout the tour to make this the outstanding highlight of our short trip to Belfast. The driver seemed more interested in telling anecdotal stories than providing information. Major exception was at the Bobby Sands mural where he gave great information about the 1972 hunger strike that led to the granting of rights to political prisoners, which were taken away and led to Bobby Sands reviving the practice. But that was the last stop . I liked the driver but I felt he had more to offer.

We booked a tour with Belfast’s Past on September 21, 2026. I emailed them through the website to ask if they could pick us up at the house where we are staying. They responded within minutes and said they would. Caolan, our driver, was right on time. He charmed us immediately with his smile and friendly demeanor. Within minutes of getting in the car, we knew we were with a knowledgeable native of this city. For 2 hours he shared unbelievable insights about Belfast, both old and new. We walked away feeling like we had a much better understanding of the pain this city has seen as well as hope for its future. We did not want the tour to end. It was an extraordinary experience and a day we will never forget.

Everyone in our family group of 11 agrees that this tour was not only the best tour we’ve been on but that it was the highlight of our trip! Everything was great, from easy pick up at our hotel to drop off at our hotel. The kindness, education and enthusiasm of our guides was simply outstanding. Our guides actually live in the area and so you get firsthand knowledge from people who know the history. Do yourself a favor and take this tour!!

A very interesting flash back in the city's painful history. Diarmaid is an excellent guide as he was raised in the community and has to share many stories. It is a highly recommended tour with a strong political and societal dimension.

We had the pleasure of getting a very local perspective of Belfast’s past from Díarmaid. Someone who grew up during the Troubles, and whose family still lives in the area, his knowledge of the people and the history was excellent. As we were standing in front of Sinn Féinn’s headquarters he was greeted by a half dozen locals, including Gerry Adams (former President of Sinn Féin). His personal stories, mixed with his great sense of humor, made for an excellent tour. Highly recommended.

We saw this tour on a travel show in Australia with rave reviews so added Belfast to our trip to specifically give it a go. We were not disappointed. Diarmaid was a knowledgeable and passionate tour guide, sharing his personal experiences and connections to the history of Belfast. It was so moving— the gates, the murals, signing the peace wall. Diarmaid gave a fair and balanced report— but the personal element he brought to the tour took it to a higher level.
