I did this tour with 3 friends and words cannot adequately express the mix of emotions we all felt during and after the experience. Our guide was Jim, who was so knowledgeable and personable with a fantastic sense of humour. We thought we knew what the Troubles were all about from seeing the news… how wrong we were! Jim’s stories of his personal experiences growing up in Belfast kept us engrossed and he answered any questions with honesty. We were all so glad we took the tour and it was probably the best part of our visit to Belfast on this occasion. If you get the chance to go, don’t hesitate to book a black cab tour with Xplore Belfast Murals. Thank you so much Jim, it was a pleasure meeting you!
Coming from England, we thought we knew about the Troubles from what we have seen in the news etc. How wrong we were! The 90 minute tour with our outstanding Guide, Edward taught us so much told through the eyes of someone with the lived experience to tell us what life was really like and in some instances, is still like. From Shankhill to Falls Road via Divis, the time flew by. Edward was a superb presenter and also answered all our questions too. Highly recommended.
informative and interesting trip. Guide was personable. And both my friend and myself came back knowing a lot more about Northern Ireland’s history. Better than the Titanic experience- although I did enjoy that as well
Fantastic tour if you want to learn more about Belfast history and the troubles . Our guide Jim picked us up as arranged at the meeting point , was extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. He looked after us very well, took pictures and gave us as long as needed to look at the murals , he was very friendly . Would highly recommend this tour and especially Jim
Astonishingly brilliant tour led by the funny, fair minded and super knowledgeable Jim. Highpoint of our trip to Belfast and 100% recommended. Whatever you think you know about the Troubles, there is no substitute to seeing and hearing it for real.
Our guide was incredibly kind and personable. He offered a very interesting and essential perspective on 'The Troubles'—one that reinforces the vital idea of a free and united Ireland—and he skillfully connected Irish solidarity with Palestine and other causes of national and class liberation. I also have to mention that he takes great photos; he took some truly excellent shots of my partner and me at the Bobby Sands mural and the Peace Wall. I highly recommend the tour, and if you get the same guide we did, you’ll be in good, friendly hands.
Ray was so funny and informative.
Fabulous tour and our second time with Jim. Our first visit last year was with hubby and I as a couple and we had such an informative time with Jim that we booked again this year when visiting with family. Jim goes above and beyond, is so knowledgeable and makes the tour completely engrossing and handled with the sensitivity the topic deserves (but with a great sense of humour and a sense of ‘craic’ along the way). Cannot recommend this tour and the company highly enough.
Booked the taxi and gaol tour through get your guide. Meeting place easy to find. Our tour guide was issac! What a guy! So knowledgeable giving a full insight into the troubles of the conflict. With a non bias story. He made us comfortable from the start and highly recommend this tour and issac! Although the gaol turned out to be closed and no warning we were given a cash refund for this part of the trip. Thank you
Our guide Nigel was excellent. Friendly, very knowledgeable and made the whole tour really enjoyable. We learned so much about the recent history of Belfast in a non biased way . Definitely worth doing this for first time visitors
If I could give 11/10 I would. RAY was the best guide I've ever had. Knowledgeable and very engaging. Pickup and set down was perfect. He gave us well over the specified time and we learnt so much. Multiple stop offs to take photos and his knowledge was massive. Ray made our day! This tour is 100% recommended through this company.
Brad was a great guide,, full of knowledge and history, would recommend,
My friends and I shared a wonderful tour of Belfast with Jim, who - having lived through The Troubles - was an excellent and informative guide. The info he shared was balanced, fair, at times funny, and always moving. Take one of these taxi tours to learn what it was like living in Belfast at that time (and still today), and to see areas of the city that you'd likely pass by without knowing what took place there not so long ago. We should always try to learn from history, and "walking the ground" where it happened makes it all so much more understandable. Thank you, Jim and Xplore Belfast Murals, for giving us that opportunity in Belfast.
The Best city tour, I have ever been on. Please ask for Sean!! He will give you a good overview of the troubles. He can also talk about the troubles from experience. Hower whilst he may criticise the authorities on both sides of the divide. He could emphasise with the 3 participants; Soldiers, Catholics and Prtestant individuals.
Most informative on Belfast. Learned all about the divide and turf wars still happening in Ireland and the UK.
Very good experience! Jim was very knowledgeable about the troubles and current politics. Very informative & fun conversation! Had a blast💚
Sometimes you get to do something on holiday that stays with you- this experience knocked us for six. We laughed, we shed a tear or two and above all learnt so much about life in Belfast during the troubles thanks to our knowledgeable guide Jim and his detailed tour of the murals. It should almost be compulsory!
Great! I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t know nearly enough about this time in history. Jim was very Jim Jim was great!! informative and also generous in answering our questions. Sure, you can go to the murals and the peace wall yourself, but hearing the stories from someone who lived through it was very powerful. Highly recommended!
This was an incredible experience and very informative. Jim was our guide & he was not only entertaining and funny, but he knew what he was talking about. It was the perfect length for a tour, with a very cute surprise at the end. Jim is the BEST & my whole family and i really enjoyed ourself in his company.
We were lucky to have Jim as our driver. It was amazing to hear about the history of The Troubles from someone who has lived through them. He answered all the questions we had, and there were a lot. He was friendly, open and made the tour fun - though we all found it very emotional at times too. If you visit Belfast this is a ‘must do’ tour. Thank you Jim.
This was a highlight of our Belfast visit..John gave us a comprehensive account of 'The Troubles'... and beyond...detailed history of the Northern Ireland plight against the English. We would highly recommend this tour..particularly John as a guide
What I noticed George did which the other cabbie tour guides did not was bring photos of the area and its history.
The tour was top-notch. Jim was an excellent, informed guide. He took his time and answered all of our questions.
We had a wonderful tour of the murals and peace wall with Sean. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Ireland and 'the troubles'. His own experiences really brought the history to life. Would highly recommend.
Taxi driver was so friendly and informative - he certainly knew his stuff. He kindly took pictures of us as a group as and when we wanted and was just a lovely person.
Interesting tour with many personal observations brings history alive. Guide was unhurried and answered our many questions.
Jim and Edward gave us the most educational and entertaining tour of the murals. 2 strong opinions, 2 sides of the troubles. We all came away feeling we had the best experience that Belfast had to offer. 100% recommend. Thanks guys, you were fantastic!
We learned a huge amount about the Troubles from this tour - not just historical facts, but also the perspective of one who lived through those times and lives in the city now - transformed in some ways, still as divided in others. Most of all, it was about being in and seeing the places which for us were just names and pictures in the news back then. Edward was a fantastic guide, non-partisan but highly personal, who had us hanging on every word. Thoroughly recommended.
Was given a tour by Jim, who was incredibly professional and knowledgeable about the murals and their significance. Not only did he provide an excellent commentary on the murals themselves, but also gave an unbiased overview of The Troubles in Belfast. He was engaging, and happy to answer any questions I asked. If you are planning a trip to Belfast, I can wholeheartedly recommend Xplore Belfast Murals, and if you do get Jim as your guide, you're in very good hands. Bonus points for giving recommendations on good pubs to go to in Belfast after the tour had finished! 10/10, would recommend to anyone visiting the city!
Fantastic comprehensive tour- Liam was so knowledgeable!
Fantastic tour and Edward our tour guide was brilliant. He gave an unbiased account of the troubles to the extent that it was hard to identify if he was a Catholic or Protestant! Great value for money
Fantastic tour!! Our driver was Jim and he was absolutely brilliant, we had a great time and his knowledge was second to none. Can't recommend enough, it's an absolute must do whilst in Belfast and a bonus if you manage to get Jim 😀
Nigel was a great guide for our tour of Belfast! He was knowledgeable, kind, and unbiased. It was incredible to learn about the troubles, particularly coming from someone who understood these experiences personally.
You will stop at a small number of important murals that are very significant in the history of the conflict. Our guide Jim was friendly, welcoming and was able to give a real feel, from his own experiences, of what it was like growing up and living through the conflict, as well as how things have changed since the Good Friday Agreement. I'd definitely return and do this tour again. Highly recommended.
We had a tour today with Jim, could not fault him at all. Was very informative and had a huge amount of knowledge. Was non biased and should us a variety of things. Would highly recommend doing the tour if you have time! Even in the rain it was an amazing tour!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Brilliant way to spend the morning getting familiar with the history of Belfast in a comfortable van. Do not hesitate to book this tour
Great murals tour, Edward was a great guide and driver, and shared very well balanced informative and interesting pieces of information, enhanced with his personal views and experiences. Can only recommend-
Really enjoyed our experience! Jim was very knowledgeable and friendly.
The guide Jim was amazing! The information that he gave was al good! I would recomand this tour.
A history tour like no other, powerful and informative. Big shout out to our host Nigel, we learnt a lot from him. Very interesting to hear both sides of the fence and how the city is trying to move on in a positive manner.
We had Edward (Ed) who was hugely knowledgeable, great sense of humour, and cares about what he was talking about. We found the whole thing unbelievably interesting and moving. Don’t ever forget the past, but don’t let it dictate your future. A must do when visiting Belfast!
Had a brilliant tour this morning with Edward. He was extremely knowledgeable and balanced with his information and provided a fantastic overview into the history of Belfast and Northern Ireland during the troubles. Such a friendly man and made the tour extremely enjoyable. Picked up and dropped off at the same ideal location and the tour lasted about 1.5hrs (including time spent taking photos). Would highly recommend anyone visiting Belfast to take the time to go on this tour.
Thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours with Jim as our guide. Great communication to set the trip up and a balanced account of the troubles. Very knowledgeable about his subject and answered all of our questions after patiently listening to our requirements. Highly recommended. Thanks Jim.
Before taking this tour, my knowledge of the Troubles in Northern Ireland was limited, primarily shaped by the IRA bombings I saw on television during the 80s. However, this experience completely changed my understanding of the deep and lasting impact the conflict had on the region, leaving behind a divided community. Liam, our driver, was a wonderful guide, full of Northern Irish warmth and charm. His personal connection to the events—his family having been directly affected—made his insights even more poignant and heartbreaking. The tour took us along both sides of the Peace Wall, where we had the chance to write a few words in support of lasting peace. It was a deeply moving experience to witness firsthand the scars of such a troubled past, but also incredibly valuable for gaining a more nuanced understanding of the conflict and its enduring legacy. I would highly recommend it for anyone seeking to truly grasp the complexities of Northern Ireland’s history.
Big shout out to Nigel.... Excellent tour guide. I had some knowledge of the troubles having Irish parents but i still had questions i wanted to have answers too and most importantly visiting the places both sides of the peace walls was a must for me. Nigel accommodated all that with his knowledge and personal memories of troubled times. A memory to remember and he went well over the tour allocated time to explain all we asked both myself and my wife. Great tour Great Guide If you have an interest in the troubles this is a must i rate it highly and you do get to walk around also at times which is a bonus.
Fabulous altogeher. Very informative, very balanced discussion of topics we typically do not discuss openly, great craic, I REALLY enjoyed this ... many thanks
Highlight of my trip. My tour guide Nigel was absolutely fantastic- super engaging and interesting throughout- the 1.5 hrs flew by. He was open to any questions I had and was so knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
Jim was a wonderful driver! Very accommodating and managed to change our reservation to the following day. He even took us an extra stop to see the kneecap mural! He was super knowledgable and we learned a lot from the tour, it was the highlight of our trip!! Thanks Jim :)
Nigel, our tour guide, was interesting, knowledgeable and engaging. We learnt so much of the complex history of a Belfast and Ireland. Highly recommended.
