Big Mark was great. Very passionate and shared his personal knowledge with us. He was very generous with his time.
Robert was our tour guide. He was non biased and very well informed. We came away a lot more educated. He was very pleasant and easy going.
Fantastic tour with Big Mark on the political tour of West Belfast. Super knowledgeable, personable and passionate. Allowed us to ask plenty of questions on route. Prompt arrival and excellent communication throughout. Would highly recommend. Thank you Big Mark! Shaun and Rachel
What an excellent tour guide Cecil was - I am so pleased we chose to do this as I believe everyone should learn what really happened during these troubled times. It was a fantastic tour of troubled history in our times with excellent commentary and information
We learned so much and fully enjoyed our tour!! We highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to learn about the history of Belfast.
A fantastic tour thanks to Mark! Very moving & informative. Mark doesn’t rush anything and speaks through each part of the tour thoroughly and any questions asked are answered perfectly. Mark witnessed these troubles growing up as a kid it just makes the whole tour from him mean so much more. I cannot recommend booking with these tours enough. Thank you mark!
Honestly something I've wanted to do for a long time and it did not disappoint. The knowledge of the driver was first class
Jake was a lovely tour guide and brought us through the city allowing us to see both sides of the conflict and there was no bias to one side over the other with Jake. He was an extremely kind and happy gentleman and I’m so glad that Jake was our tour guide for this!
Big Mark was a knowledgeable guide through Belfast and the peace wall. He provided a neutral, yet personal message from both sides of the conflict and insight that someone from another county isn’t privy to. While the tour isn’t a fun experience it was meaningful to our trip to Ireland.
We had Big Mark and he was great. knowledge amazing very interesting tour very sad that we feel it would take very little to start the problems again. Some one needs to remove all the signs and displays this just keeps reminding people of what happened. Time to mourn is at the Grave site.
We booked our Tour from the States 3 months before our journey to Ireland, so who knew that it would be scheduled the day that Storm Boelo hit Northern Ireland! The weather was atrocious (40mph winds and torrential rains) but Cecil made it a fun, informative and enlightening experience nonetheless. He picked us up at the Leonardo Hotel right on time and took us on the heartbreaking tour of Belfast's tumultuous history. Despite foggy windows, rain pouring in if you rolled them down, Cecil guided us past the many Murals and "Checkpoint Charlies" explaining the sadness that all of this hatred and intolerance produced. It's simply amazing that "God Fearing" people can inflict so much harm on each other. Unfortunately, the bane of humankind. I digress, Cecil went above and beyond, he was wonderful and the tour really gives you a graphic view of what this community has been through. Let's hope it all remains in the past.
Clean and timely Very knowledgeable A must if you’ve never been to Belfast before and want to understand the political/religious history
Good history lesson. Very informative Driver was friendly and knowledgeable. A good thing to do in Belfast
Collected and returned to our hotel, we went on the Political & Mural tour of West Belfast. Big Mark was our energetic and most likeable guide. He did a brilliant job sharing the history whilst taking us to key points of interest. He was so flexible and let us shape what we wanted to see and where we wanted to get out. We’ve read about the history but seeing it whilst also getting some real insight is well worthwhile. Would definitively recommend.
Our guide, Jake, was fantastic. Every street, every corner and wall held people’s stories that Jake retold with remarkable balance and objectivity. He gave events that I’d only ever witnessed from a distance via the 6 O’Clock News a poignant humanity. Not to be missed.
Our guide was Jake!! The man is an incredible historian. He shared both sides of the struggles and let the listener find the truth in the middle. History is left to one who tells the story. The IRA and the UDF killed more Irish citizens on both sides than military. A must do tour if you are interested in real history.
Robert was very informative and helpful. He answered all of my questions and kept it straight with me. Great tour.
Robert was a fantastic guide and so knowledgeable! He did a fantastic job of explaining the history and the continuing impact on Belfast. Would absolutely recommend!
This tour was easy to book and was an excellent way to learn about the Troubles. Jake was a fantastic guide who told us all about the history of the situation, and about how it felt to grow up in Belfast during those times. Highly recommended!!
Excellent tour, I am recommending it to everyone. Our Tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us a great insight into both sides of the divide which lasted around 90 minutes.
My husband and I went out with Big Mark, he was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable and very flexible. My husband and I found the tour extremely interesting.
Great experience Our guide Big Mark was superb
Very informative. Just the three of us in the tour which was nice. Lots to see and learn! Would recommend.
Mark was excellent, knew all the history and was very honest and fair/level headed. I rarely leave reviews but if you're heading to Belfast and doing the black taxi ride. Mark is your man. Neville(Youghal, Cork)
Excellent tour by Big Mark. We enjoyed learning more about the history of the troubles and listening to Big Mark's stories.
Eye opening and meaningful education of an ongoing conflict. Tour was easy to access, and Jake was an excellent guide.
What an experience! Mark was a tremendously knowledgeable and entertaining guide - patient, engaging and brilliantly informed, his delivery was superb and he could not have been bettered. We learned so much in such a short space of time - a truly fantastic experience!!!!
Fascinating tour and history lesson. Really enjoyed the look in a “troubling” time in Northern Ireland’s recent history whose repercussions are still being felt today.
Wonderful tour and great tour guide. Tour guide was knowledgeable and drove us to both sides. 90 min didn’t seem long enough!
Reading the reviews it sounds like all guides are great. Mark gave us history lessons and explained everything about the troubles there( past and present). He was very neutral. I was biased going in...and came out biased. I won't tell you why but to my eyes the problem is clear. Even if you don't care you will be amazed at the history. What's most amazing is that in 2026 there are still gates that are closed every night. Thank-you Mark for a truly amazing experience.
Absolutely fantastic tour. Robert was our guide and he was amazing! Really knowledgeable and talked us through the history of the area. Learnt so much and really appreciated his knowledge.
Our guide was incredible friendly and knowledgeable, and did a fantastic job of bringing the history of the troubles to life, leading to a better understanding and appreciation for the history of Belfast and its impact today. Would highly recommend!
Jake provided us with a superb tour of Belfast. We learned much from the history of the troubles through to the fragility of the Good Friday Agreement that holds today. It was excellent to have a first hand account of life growing up in Belfast though the 70’s and 80’s. We certainly recommend Jake to others as a driver and guide.
Robert, our guide, was brilliant. He gave us an unbiased account of Belfasts history, the troubles and of Belfast today. It was fascinating and sobering, and highly recommended.
Very enlightening. This was the highlight of our trip to Ireland.
We had Robert as our guide and he was phenomenal. He lived through The Troubles and was able to recite personal experiences as well. I highly recommend him and this tour. It was truly eye-opening.
Big Mark was amazing - loved his informative and balanced commentary on the history of West Belfast! Highly recommend him and really appreciated his knowledge and fearless peace perspective!
Excellent in-depth overview of the "The Troubles," from inception to current situation, by someone who lived through much of it. Jake provided a very fair and unbiased exploration of life in Belfast's Catholic and Protestant neighborhoods, as well as how it related to life in Ireland in general.
We had Robert as our guide. He was extremely informative, knowledgeable, and unbiased about the events.
Mark was incredible with the facts and information in relation to the history of Northern Ireland and Belfast in particular. He has a wealth of information and was readily informed to answer any of our questions. This tour is a must if you want to know more about Belfast historically and today.
Great tour, very informative. Definitely recommend for anyone visiting Belfast. Our driver was great and made us feel very comfortable.
Jake was a great guide! Very interesting and informative. We learned a lot and would highly recommend this experience.
We had Big Mark who grew up in west Belfast and experienced the Troubles take us up and down Falls Rd and Shankills Rd, looking at the murals and the Peace wall. He was amazing and his knowledge was incredible. He knew answers to everything, was very level about each side of this war with a message about the difficulties of peace in this small part of Belfast. Having someone skilled and registered with the Tourist Office meant that we actually got a great history lesson!
Incredible history tour regarding Belfast. So much history I never knew and how recent it is. Fantastic. Jake (driver) was phenomenal.
A must do experience. Mark, our guide, was fantastic. It’s so moving to hear about some of his lived experience and to see first hand some of those streets. It’s a stark reminder of the value of peace and how much this has changed lives. Really powerful. Thank you Mark.
This is a “must do” when in Belfast. Robert was an excellent guide, very happy to have had him. Very knowledgeable, patient with our questions and a good driver. His impartiality to the information shared was appreciated.
Didn’t know what to expect. Ended up having the BEST Viator experience ever, and we’ve had many. Jake taught us so much and showed us so much in such a short period. We came away with a much better understanding of the, “Troubles,” but also with a thirst to know more. We THINK that we know about the Berlin wall, the Gaza wall, and the Belfast wall-but there’s so much more to understand. Through it all, Jake expressed all of those history-not with bitterness, but with hope gor his fellow man. This was a very moving and inspiring experience. Pray for these people.
We had a fantastic Black Taxi Tour with Mark and I honestly couldn’t recommend it more. The tour was incredibly informative and interesting, but what made it really special was hearing about such an important and complex part of Belfast’s history from someone with lived experience. It gives you a very different perspective from simply reading about it. Mark was brilliant with us. He patiently answered all our questions and spoke slowly and clearly so that my family could follow, giving me plenty of time to translate when needed. He never rushed us and actually gave us much more of his time than we had booked. He was also super punctual, friendly and genuinely lovely. To top it all off, I accidentally left my phone in the taxi and Mark went out of his way to bring it back to me afterwards. A fascinating, memorable experience and one I can 100% recommend. Thank you, Mark!
Very interesting and informative tour. Great way to see up close the murals, walls and learn the history of the divide in Belfast. Jake was a great guide.
