We booked with Black Taxi Tours and from our initial contact, they were timely with communication and responses to our queries. The guide assigned to our group, Paul McConville, was fabulous. He went above and beyond. We were excited for the tour and it exceeded our expectations.

My wife & I have been fortunate to take a number of guided tours during our travels and we both felt that this was one of the guided tours. A key element was our guide Paul MC, who was a blend of a teacher, historian, newly found friend & tour guide . Having someone who lived during this period put a human face on the history we were exposed to during our tour! Strongly recommend if you able to request Paul!
Paul was fantastic and personlised the tour a little and found places I wanted to see as my Dad grew up there. He really showed us both sides of the troubles and made it extra special for me by finding the place where my dad lived and also memorial plaques of family we had lost in the troubles. Would highly recommend Paul and this company. Thanks for making our time in Belfast extra special.
We had a great experience with Paul Mac. He gave a great insight in to The Troubles from both sides & helped us feel immersed in that recent history. Highly recommend Paul & his tour
Unbelievable insight into the Belfast troubles and history, very interesting and informative, had lots of questions and they was answered with so much knowledge and enthusiasm, brendon was the tour guide who was very friendly, definitely 10 out of 10, unforgettable experience,
Interesting, informative, emotional. Kevin was passionate about the history and the politics; open to our questions; accommodating to our perspective. A highlight of our time here in Belfast. So worth it.
Very informative, relaxed atmosphere. We enjoyed it very much. Although our driver had a stutter he was easy enough to understand and enjoyable to be with.
We were visiting Ireland for my 70th birthday and what a way to start a celebration with a Black Taxi tour of Belfast. Both our guides, Brandon and Ricky, were fantastic. I would highly recommend this opportunity to see Belfast at the beginning of your trip.
Our guide, Paul Mc, made our tour an unforgettable experience. There was so much information included in the 2 hours and it was delivered with impactful facts, personal stories, photos and passion. This was a morning that will stay with me for a very long time.
Fantastic tour with highly knowledgeable local guide Paul who was personable humerous & made the whole tour fascinating sharing some of his lived experience. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Belfast 🫶🏻- 5 stars 🌟 Thank you 🏴
Thank you so much to Paul and Michelle! After a hiccup with our booking, I contacted the tour company directly. Michelle jumped into action and rebooked us for a time that worked in the afternoon as we were only in Belfast for the day. No small task on a busy August Saturday! Paul picked us up and was able to share the pain and turmoil of the Troubles, then and now. It became personal as he shared stories about himself, friends and family during that time. Highly recommend
Our Guide, Paul, was excellent and very knowledgeable. The tour was informative, very interesting, balanced and overall value for money. Paul picked us up from our hotel on time and dropped us off at a location of our choice. Would highly recommend.
The pickup was very smooth with Jimmy. Jimmy was very interesting. He was very real about his experiences and sometimes it felt like he was harsh but that’s just how it was (how he explained it). He was kind enough to grab us a snack from the corner market for us to try. He was a good driver and we got everywhere safely. Just a very genuine guy and Paulie (dog) was a cute little companion.
My black cab tour with Paul exceeded expectations so much so we felt he was worthy of a generous tip at the end. Paul was flexible to pick us up an hour earlier to do the tour at short notice. From beginning of the tour he shared excellent knowledge of each destination we visited accompanied by photographs and audio to enhance the experience to the maximum. I would highly recommend Paul for anyone doing this tour
Stephen was excellent! We really enjoyed the tour and learned a lot
If you ever find yourself traveling through Ireland, I highly recommend taking a black taxi tour in Belfast. This is not only a sightseeing tour, but an opportunity to see the history of Belfast through murals, memorials, streets and communities that have been affected by great turmoil for hundreds of years. Our driver, Ricky, a historian and artist, shared his own personal experiences growing up as a young child during the most violent times and how that has shaped his life today. Ricky was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history and conflict among the Irish and gives his account in an unbiased way.
Very good informative and educational. Guide very helpful and local knowledge.
Fantastic educational experience for us and for our three kids! The tour was well-organized and thorough. Wholeheartedly recommend.
A great tour, we learnt lots about Belfast history. Great way to discover more about the Troubles. Thank you
An amazing honest and informative tour about a very troubled time in history. Our wonderful tour guide George was very helpful and knowledgeable and made the whole experience so fascinating. From the booking to the completion of the tour everything was smooth and efficient. Definitely a 10 out of 10 experience.
Kevin did a great job and would highly recommend him.
Jimmy was very knowledgeable and an excellent guide. We were very pleased. We’ll be sure to use the services of Viator again.
Our two hours with Ricky on The Troubles was, in many ways, life-changing. We knew nothing of The Troubles outside of the fact that they happened. Ricky shared the experience from the Nationalist and the Unionist sides with quiet dignity and openness. We learned so much and value the understanding.
Brandan was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable and had first hand experience with the times. Great tour! 5 stars.
The tour operator failed to show for a paid for and confirmed tour at our appointment day and time. Despite the fact that I have an email confirmation and tickets that were sent to me the night before, and my credit card was charged, the company has refused to refund our tour and instead claimed no such booking existed.
I consider this tour, one of the most important experiences of my trip. I learned so much about Belfast and the situation in which Belfast and Ireland still finds themselves. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable from both his personal experience and studies in history and art. I would recommend this tour highly.
Had an excellent tour with George. He was friendly and professional and so knowledgeable. His vehicle was spotless and very comfortable. I would definitely recommend George and this tour.
ricky was fantastic, he had a broad based knowledge of irish history, politics and religion. the tour was very educational about irish history. politics and religion. highly recommend this tour.
It was ok but I have been told the hop on and off bus is more informative and a much better experience
Our guide Ricky was super interesting and very knowledgeable. There were many things I learned that have changed my view of The Troubles. This tour was well worth the time and money
Myself and my 15yr old son had a brilliant tour today. Our guide was Kevin and he was excellent with my son who has a keen interest in Irish history. Kevin answered every question so well and he esucated us every step of the way. This tour I would highly recommend. It will live long in our memories. Well worth doing when visiting Belfast
Tour guide Ricky was fantastic with facts, perspective and life experience. An excellent experience for all of us.
This tour was a great enlightening experience, where you get a perspective of history and real life lived experience alongside it. Our guide Gerard had a significant amount to share, some old photos, lived stories and experiences over the past decades as well as a view of the future.
Our taxi driver was very knowledgeable and give the perspective from both sides, the area is very itself is smaller than you think. Have an open mind as the area has completely changed it’s all new house’s so you have to maybe use some imagination. Very good tour.
Extremely interesting !!!!!! Would do it again. I know others will certainly benefit from the knowledge and passion.
Driver never arrived. Viator did not respond. I need Full Refund now. No Driver. No Contact. Just us standing. Completely Worthless Operation
Must do in Belfast. If you’re visiting do it early in your trip. Jarlath (not sure of spelling sorry!) was the best. Lots of history and personal connections to that history. Picked up at our hotel and drove through different areas of Belfast explaining context, history, murals, etc aided by photos and video clips. Recommend you educate yourself on the troubles / Irish history beforehand to get the most out of it. Thanks J! Stay a cheeky c!!!
Gerrard was simply the best host and gave us a fantastic tour of Belfast. Truly enjoyable. Would recommend Gerrard to everyone who visits Belfast.
Ricky was an excellent guide through the history of the Troubles in Belfast. Great storyteller who combined a first rate knowledge of history with personal experiences. We spent almost 3 weeks traveling around Europe and this was one of the biggest highlights of our trip. Would highly recommend to anybody visiting Belfast.
Ricky was a great guide who gave a interesting tour with great in sight into the history of the Troubles and where the people of Northern Ireland are today
This tour is worth the money! Ricky was amazing. As a proper Irish historian and someone with lived experience, we left with a much deeper understanding of the city and of the effect of the British presence in Ireland over the last 800 years. This was the highlight of our whole trip.
We had a great tour with Ricky, who gave us a broad perspective of The troubles from early years and up til now. We would absolutely recommend him and Black cab taxi tours to others. Learning about the past is important to keep peace in the future.
This was such a wonderful experience! Our amazing driver Sean was so friendly, witty and incredibly informative, and guided us through the streets of Belfast with such care. What a magnificent way to see and hear the history of Belfast. 10/10
Ricky was super informative. We learned so much from someone with first hand experience with the Troubles.
Ricky had so so much information due living through the conflicts as a child and becoming a historian. Would love to have stayed in cab for more hours as the 2 hrs flew over .
We had an amazing experience on the Belfast Black Cab Tour. It was incredibly insightful to learn about the history of the Troubles and how it shaped the city of Belfast. The tour provided a deep understanding of the city's past and present, and helped us see things from a local perspective. Our tour guide, Kevin, was absolutely fantastic. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and had a great sense of humour that made the tour both enjoyable and meaningful. He answered all of our questions with patience and clarity, and explained the complex history in a way that was easy to follow and really thought-provoking.
They never showed up. We stood in the cold for 45 minutes waiting and messaging them. No response until after we managed to find a phone number for Viator and they called them directly. They said the tour operator had us down for the wrong date. As a result, we had to scramble to find a different tour with a different company. And due to the wasted time in our schedule, there were several things we didn’t get to see that we were really looking forward to later that day on the coast. So infuriating and unprofessional!
Absolutely fabulous. Highly recommend Jimmy as a guide. He is so raw and passionate about The Troubles, peace, and helping people better understand them. He answered our questions, paused with us to reflect, and shared stories and insights.
Our guide was great, very knowledgeable and gave an impartial description of the political history. However we were expecting a 2 hour tour but it was only 70 mins from pick up to drop off.
Ask for Brendon. Powerful, fascinating and heartbreaking all at the same time. Brendon was so knowledgeable and quite engaging!
