The tour was good.Lot and lots of information to take in,but nice to have a better insight of what both sides went through
We had a wonderful time on this tour. Learned a lot we didn't know before and it was heartbreaking to hear first hand account of what occurred but also liked the positive attitude for the future. Answered our many questions. Our guide was really helpful with the two of us with mobility issues.
If you want to understand the history of Belfast Troubles from someone that was there, experienced very personal and deep tragedy and continues to live with the consequences of the tensions in today's world, this is a great tour. George tells the story in way you can't help but be profoundly moved by imagining the experience. This tour will stay with me for the rest of my life.
If you only do one thing in Belfast, make it the Peace Walls Tour and don’t be surprised if you leave with a completely different perspective on the city. Kevin delivered a masterclass on the Ireland/British conflict, the kind of detailed, nuanced insight you won’t find in any guidebook, including eye-opening and controversial history we never would have discovered on our own. His storytelling genuinely moved us. There were moments that stopped us in our tracks, bringing real humanity to events that could easily feel distant or abstract. And through it all, he was laugh-out-loud funny, warm, and genuinely passionate about sharing Belfast’s story honestly and completely. You could tell this wasn’t just a job for him. By the end of the tour, we felt like we actually understood what we were seeing — the murals, the walls, the neighborhoods — in a way that was both humbling and profound. Kevin, you were an absolute gem. Highest possible recommendation; don’t miss this tour!
This was a fantastic overview of the troubles. Our tour guide, Brendan, shared his personal experiences as he drove us around some key sites in both the Catholic and Protestant areas of Belfast. The IRA memorial and the peace wall were particularly moving. It really deepen my understanding of what went on in Northern Ireland, and what’s still going on?
Outstanding and learned more in one day than all my teachers me in history at school. Tour guide ‘Harry’ was very knowledgeable. Totally recommend this excursion.
This tour was great. Brendan took us around and explained the history of the area and conflict. He was very personable and had many personal stories. It really puts things into perspective. I highly recommend this tour and Brendan.
We had a fascinating experience of Belfast’s history with Ricky. I would highly recommend this tour and Ricky have an insightful account of the history of the Troubles and of Belfast past and present. Wonderful. Catheirne and Rod
Nicky was fabulous and informative. My family and I learned so much and enjoyed the 2 hours as well. We appreciated Nicky’s personal stories and context. Highly recommend! Highlight of our trip!!!
Ricky was just amazing. He was responsive to questions and gave thoughtful answers. He drove us through the whole area of conflict and has clearly put a great deal of thought and work into the presentation. I so appreciated his time an attention. He was also pretty flexible as to the pick up spot when it changed! He had a minivan and it was really comfortable.
The black taxi tour was excellent and was a highlight of our trip. Jim was very informative and an excellent guide. I highly recommend anyone visiting Belfast to take this tour.
Stephen gave us the very best tour possible!! His knowledge of the history was amazing!! We learned so much on his tour!!
Firstly we would like to.say a big thank you.to our host and guide Ricky. He made the whole thing real. He set the scene well going back in time to when the French, Norman's really, (but you know how the Brits love to blame the French), invaded Ireland back in the 11th century. He took us on a journey through time explaining HenryV111 involvement and the pogroms of Oliver Cromwell through William of Orange and up to partition in in the 1920's all information we did not know. All we really knew about was what we heard nightly on the news in the late 1960's and through up until 1994. The IRA blew things up shot loyalists and soldiers and the Loyalists blew things up and shot members of the IRA, with both sides killing innocent civilians so much tragedy and pain and suffering. RICKY brought all this to life and put it in perspective with his life experiences of being arrested by the army as a 12 year old for throwing stones something he had not done on the day of his arrest but said he had done the day before, to being hit by rubber bullets and interred as a political prisoner in an H block after being on remand in Crumlin road Gaol. He made it all real. The murals, peace wall, and memorial gardens were all very poignant and sad and brought back a lot of memories. We both hope the peace continues and that the communities can learn to live with the past and look forward to a great future.
So this is the excursion we set up and paid Viator for and it NEVER HAPPENED 🤬🤬 We were very disappointed when we got off the ship at the port in Belfast and could not locate the “Black Taxi” nor the driver for our much anticipated tour. We even asked port staff for help to call the phone number on our reservation but they could not reach anyone. We waited extra time searching for our taxi and driver but they did not show up nor did they call us. We lost out on our money we paid VIATOR for the excursion. Later that day VIATOR sent a message that “they apologized but the ship yard did not allow the taxi or driver access into the port.” The message said we would be getting a full refund to our CC but as of today we have not received the refund. WE WANT OUR MONEY BACK!!!!!
The tour was exactly what we had in mind. Our guide was knowledgable and shared his personal experiences living in the area during The Troubles. He answered all our questions and remained unbiased while still acknowledging atrocities from all angles. He went above and beyond!
We all agreed this was our favorite thing we did in Belfast - our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and it was interesting hearing his perspective as someone who lived through the conflict. This tour is definitely a Belfast must-do!
What a very special morning! Brendan our tour guide shared the history of the troubles as he took us to both sides of the wall. You can see all movies and read the stories but the tour gave us a much better understanding of the troubles and the pathway to peace. Highly recommend.
A very nice visit of 1,5 hour of Political murals and story, for our group, with Gerald and Mo. Thank you Gerald to have managed to privide the tour in french, it was really appreciated, and Mo's storys were fabulous!
Great experience had fun learning history of Belfast during the troubles and finding out conflict of different parliamentary beliefs.
We were lucky enough to have a tour with Gerard who was a brilliant guide, offering balanced and personal reflections of the war. Really informative, and emotional Gerard is an educator, doing really important work. We did the hop on hop off bus the day before which only touched the surface so we were keen to learn more, and certainly did. Booked less than an hour before, picked up from our hotel, Gerard was extremely generous with his time and energy and we are very grateful for that. Would definitely recommend.
Brilliant tour of Belfast areas affected by Troubles. Mal gave great detail and had great stories and brought tertible times to life.Never felt rushed at amy stage. Highly recommend.
We had Brendan taking us on this tour who was passionate and factual throughout and explained everything to detail, we asked questions and he answered from either side’s point of view. Highly recommend.
We did a tour today with Brendan as our guide and he was fantastic. He took time explaining everything to us and giving us every opportunity to take photos. We would definitely recommend 👌.
Unforgettable tour! So informative! Gerard was a fantastic knowledgeable tour guide, who provided a balance of laughs and emotive first hand experience of growing up during the troubles. He was not bound by the clock and even offered to drop us at the airport after the tour to make sure we caught our flight in time! Fully recommend if you’re visiting Belfast!
We booked the taxi tour for a mid morning on a Sunday. Our tour guide, Gerard was on time and provided the most insightful, powerful tour which exceeded any expectations! Would absolutely recommend this tour
Wow what can I say ! Gérard our tour guide was absolutely incredible. He was so interesting to listen to with all his first hand knowledge of having lived through the troubles himself. This tour is a must as you learn and see so much. The facts we learned of what the folk of Ireland lived through will stay with me forever. Would highly recommend Gérard to anyone planning this tour he tells you everything from the heart as he and his family went through it. Thank you again Gérard!
Awesome experience. Ricky was an amazing guide. His lived experience and his passion for Irish history, politics and culture unparalleled.
Top man Gerard 100% tour was tops amazing experience would highly recommend to anyone going to Belfast was a great experience learning things we never new
We had Sean for our tour he had a deep knowledge and experience of the troubles since 1969 and gave us a great deal of insight into the history stemming back to the ulster plantation, a very well developed guide to both traditions and how peace has found a way for people to move forward freely. Hopefully investing in housing and redevelopment of lands not used would be my idea of helping the community to prosper.
Very interesting tour David was very knowledgeable and give an unbiased overview of the history of The Troubles. Would highly recommend.
Ricky was such a knowledgeable and interesting driver who offered an objective perspective of the troubles. He gave an insightful depiction of the history of Ireland from the outset right through to more recent times. We not recommended him enough. Thank you!

Took this tour with Brendan February 2025. Brendan looked after us throughout from the well organised pick up to dropping us back to meeting point. The tour was excellent and Brendans knowledgeable commentary and life stories filled the couple of hours. Thoroughly enjoyed this enlightening trip. Would highly recommend.
Ricky was amazing on our tour. He was very knowledgeable and extremely accommodating with our questions and requests. Thanks so much.

Done the tour in the black taxi with Brendan as our tour guide. The tour and information Brendan had and gave us on the tour was very informative. It was a morning well spent truly enjoyable tour.
Brendan was an excellent tour guide and an even better photographer! . I would highly recommend him and would definitely do this tour again
Had a great time. Our driver, Steven, was so informative and knowledgeable, and was ready to answer any question we had. Was super friendly and easy to find at pickup location! Amazing
What a fantastic tour, Ricky was so knowledgeable, and for 2 hours drove and walked us around West Belfast. Ricky explained the history from the 12th century to the 1960's, and then in more detail through to today. Ricky's own personal experience growing up in the area through the troubles was eye opening. Although he grew up on one side of the peace wall, his outlook, and continued contributions to peace meant we got a complete picture from both sides. Would highly recommend.
David gave us first hand experience how was it growing up in Belfast. It was an amazing tour, listening to his stories at original locations gave us the real feeling of Belfast behind the scenes. He was extremly friendly, even recreating original photos of us that was taken during the troubling times.
