Jimmy was fantastic! Gave us a great insight what it was like living during the Troubles. The weather was bad outside but we still had an an amazing time.

Itinerary
history of the area. We begin in 1690, when King William the 3rd arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998. You will be guided through the heart of Loyalist walk around the area, where your guide will explain the loyalist wall murals and what they depict. You will have the opportunity to take your own photographs of the loyalalist murals.
The peace walls were designed to separate the Catholic (Republicans) and Protestant (Loyalist) populations. The first ‘peace lines’ were erected, following the outbreak of War also known as the 1969 “The Troubles”. They were built as temporary structures, meant to last only six months. Due to their effective nature they were built higher, longer and made permanent. Today, the walls are adorned with art and messages of hope from tourists.
Visit the famous Falls road the birth place of the Provisional IRA was formed. Each section of this road and its political mural will be explained in detail and the reasons it exists. The next stop is the Sinn Fein press office, which is the site of the the most famous mural in the world Bobby Sands mural. You will hear about the history of the Irish hunger strike in H Blocks Prison in 1981.

Ricky was really interesting and answered all of our questions extremely well. Highly recommend
Our guide Brendan knew Belfast, picked us up at our hotel, and gave us a very insightful tour of the Irish Catholic and Protestant areas, including the long history of the sectarian violence and its historical roots. He was friendly and answered all our questions. Highly recommended!
This is a personal tour with a person who lived through The Troubles. Dave’s our tour guide was fantastic. Worth every penny
Spent a fascinating morning with our guide Jimmy who brought the history of the Troubles in Belfast to life. I only wish we had more time with him!
Gerard picked us up at our hotel and proceeded for the next almost 3 hrs to educate us on the history of Belfast . Unbiased and informative time flew by but the intensity never waned . Photo opportunities no problem and I would honestly say it was the best tour I’ve ever been on. Would highly recommend Gerard and his company for any trips around this wonderful city.
Ricky was brilliant. Informative, helpful and we really appreciated he was open and honest with us as we had lots of questions about the history of Belfast. Plenty of opportunities for photos and stops to look at murals, points of interest etc
We were met at the hotel and rushed out to a silver van, we had expected a black cab as per the title of the tour. The driver did not introduce himself so I dont know his name. The tour overall felt rushed although the driver did have some interesting information to share.
An incredible introduction to Belfast and an honest and educational presentation of the political strife since 1969. An extraordinary opportunity to learn from people who lived history.
This was an interesting ride about the troubles. Sean was an excellent guide and knowledgeable about it's history and current situation.
Sean was very knowledgeable, he gave a balanced perspective of the history of the troubles in Ireland. We would definitely recommend.
We really enjoyed this tour! Brendan was our guide and was incredibly knowledgeable. We enjoyed learning more about the history of the Troubles and the stories behind some of the murals. This being a small tour allowed us to ask all our questions.
Very educational and informative. Our driver Ricky was great, very personable and professional . As a resident of the area he gave an excellent first hand experience of the times
This is a must do in Belfast. I knew a lot about the troubles but this put all the pieces together. Our guide,Brendan, was excellent. We were all very happy with this tour.
This tour was recommended to us and easily exceeded all of our high expectations. Ricky did an amazing job guiding us. As a historian he is 100% briefed in the history of the Troubles and had answers for every question we had. Worth every penny and more. No matter your level of knowledge, you will walk away with a great nuanced understanding of the history. If you do one thing in Belfast (beyond a pub and Guinness of course!), take this tour.
Very interesting and helpful to understand the Troubles and the current political environment.
Great history trip. Ricky was born in the area and he was very informative of all what went on. He brought us to some very intersecting places and we could get out and have a good look around and take pictures
Brandon was excellent. He really knew his history making this tour very enlightening. He was very nice and professional. Being born here his personal experience made the experience more meaningful to us.
This was a fabulous experience! Our driver Ricky was so knowledgeable and friendly. He stopped and let us take pictures whenever we wanted to. He gave us so much information about the “Toubles” and corrected some of our misinformation in addition to adding so much more background. I would highly recommend him.
Had a great tour with an excellent guide Ricky. Ricky was extremely knowledgeable and gave us all the relevant history context and was able to paint a really good picture of the more recent troubles. He even went out of his way when we stupidly told him to pick us up at the wrong hotel. Would 100% recommend.
Our tour guide, Paul Mc, is incredibly knowledgeable of the Troubles. He walked us through the history of the Troubles with photographs, as well as his personal knowledge as he was born during this time. He brought to life all the sites we visited during his tour. He was so good that I want to learn even more. I would highly recommend Paul Mc!
David was an exceptional guide who provided first hand insight into the history of Shankill Road and the Troubles. His personal connection to the neighborhood was evidenced by the no less than 20 people greeting him by name or vice versa during our tour. Very happy we booked this activity and got this guide. Thank you David!
We had Stephen as our tour guide and he was great. He had excellent knowledge about the troubles and how it affected the neighbourhoods and the people. We were able to get out and explore different parts of the Peace Walls and the gates. We also stopped at one of the many memorial gardens.
Terrible We arrived at 950am for our 10am tour. He still hasn’t turned up and it’s now 1046am. The tour operator isn’t answering phone or responding to emails and I cannot get hold of Viator. Help me please. Very annoyed and disappointed
Ricky was a thoughtful, quiet and knowledgeable guide. He was happy to take questions and helped us understand the backstory of the long history of the " troubles" . It was quite an emotional tour but so good being so personal - highly recommend
We had our tour on 18th September with David. I've recommended this to everyone I've spoke to and honestly was the best part of our day! (We had a full day with loads crammed in) David was so informative, professional and just a right down to earth guy. He gave a full perspective from someone who's actually lived through the troubles and was so knowledgeable! We're planning on our next trip and will genuinely be requesting David again. 100% recommend!
Very informative. Must do Belfast experience. Really enjoyed the time with our guide. Not hard to keep up with even if Ur hung over from Belfast nights.
Ricky was awesome. We were amazed at how much we saw and learned.
Fascinating tour and history on the Troubles. As an American I still don’t quite understand why there is such hostility between 2 religions that seem so similar to me. Seeing the gates/walls still in existence in Belfast sadly reminded me of my visit to Israel many years ago.
Not knowing much about The Troubles, we were eager to learn a local's perspective on the history of the conflict in Northern Ireland. Mic was wonderful.
Sean our taxi driver was very good and informative. Although it was only for 1 and three quarter hours and not the advertised two hour tour so was a bit misleading.
Paul, our driver, was very insightful and shared a number of first hand experiences and many stories about growing up during The Troubles. It was fascinating and moving to see the detailed murals from both sides as well as the moral artistic support from around the world, most notably Palestine. We hope there will be continued peace on both sides.
Very interesting tour with a guide who shared both his personal experiences and different perspectives. Highly recommended.
Brendan gave us a terrific tour of the various parts of the city as he explained “the troubles.” Just the right amount of information— plenty of excellent background plus a bit of personal information, too. Highly recommend this tour.
Excellent few hours learning about the Troubles in the company of someone who grew up right in the heart of the conflict. Fascinating stories with visits to some of the key sites.
I learned things I hadn’t realized and certainly didn’t have the appreciation of the magnitude of the situation.
Our driver and tour guide, Harry, was great. Very knowledgeable about the history and took us to see many places!
The guide was very knowledgeable and shared their lived experience. We certainly feel more educated about the events.
Jimmy was an amazing tour guide. He grew up in Belfast and gave us an experience that exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend Jimmy!
We were hoping for a balanced explanation of both sides of the Troubles. Unfortunately, our guide was 100% Nationalist/Republican. We completely understood his passion for his viewpoint as he had been imprisoned for his beliefs but would have like to have heard at least the basis for the Unionist beliefs.
Emotional. Hearing firsthand stories and seeing pictures of victims touches your soul. The insanity of the "troubles" will be evident.
Very good tour. Our guide tailored it to our requirements and gave us a good, unbiased view of the troubles. It was good to hear from someone who had lived through it. He was positive about the future and injected some humour which was most welcome
Gives a fair and balanced account of the British occupation of the Northern Ireland. Ricky was super knowledgeable of the situation growing up during that time period. Great stops along the way for pictures of historic murals, the gates that still exit between the unionists and the nationalists and stories from that time period that enhanced the overall experience! Highly RECOMMEND!!
We had a great tour with Sean. He was patient with our questions and we learned a lot in a short time. We loved the personal viewpoint from a true local. But also his kindness showed thru.
My party of 4 just had a Black Taxi Tours afternoon with guide Ricky around Belfast. There is no other way to describe it: our time spent with Ricky was compelling. Ricky is enormously knowledgeable, an artist, and an Irish historian himself. Ricky lived through these turbulent times so he has first hand knowledge of the years called “The Troubles.” Most importantly - he is a quietly devoted conveyor of the history of his country and all that the Irish people have endured. Ricky is never dogmatic yet speaks with a passion and deep historical knowledge that brings everything that we saw - murals, memorial gardens, the separation wall and gates, neighborhoods tragically effected by the war - to life. His Mercedes Benz van is extremely comfortable and in just two short hours, we had a much better understanding of all that has happened in this great land for centuries. Highly recommended and thank you so much Ricky!!
We went in march The guide was unreal Trying to find him as we are coming again this weekend
Very interesting tour. It put a good perspective on the Troubles. Our guide Ricky did a great job of explaining the perspectives of both sides impartially. Highly recommend the tour and Ricky as a guide
They did not have our reservation and the company was a no show. We are done using Trip Advisor.
Very informative two hours. Enjoyable experience
Sean was excellent. He brought us to the area/street where my husband’s grandfather was born and showed us the church where the family worshipped as well. His remarks were comprehensive and sobering. Definitely would recommend this tour.
