The only reason I’m not giving this 5 ⭐️ is because the communication could have been better. This is not a guided tour but that was not clear before booking. However, the Hall is a fantastic place to visit and really should be on the itinerary of any visit to Beijing, especially for those interested in history and government. The most amazing part of this experience, however, was that when we exited the Great Hall, we were able to walk right into Tiananmen Square. That made waiting in a 2 hour line worth it. What a fantastic and historical place to experience Do not miss Tiananmen Square. Over all, I do recommend this experience.

The Great Hall of the People: A Symbol of China's Democratic Spirit Nestled in the heart of Beijing, the Great Hall of the People stands as an architectural marvel and a profound symbol of China's democratic journey. This grand edifice, with its imposing presence, is not just a physical structure but a living testament to the country's commitment to inclusivity and the will of its people. Constructed in the 1950s, the Great Hall of the People was designed to serve as the venue for the National People's Congress, China's highest organ of state power. Its vast halls and chambers are where representatives from all walks of life gather to deliberate on national policies, shaping the future of the nation. This democratic process, where every voice has the potential to be heard, is at the core of China's political system, and the Great Hall of the People is its physical manifestation.

The line to enter the Great Hall can be extremely long, but the people of Beijing are incredibly efficient and keeps the line moving at a steady pace. Keep your Viator paperwork with you. Even though you entry is assigned to your passport, they required seeing our Viator reservation twice while making our way through the line. The 10k person auditorium is amazing and the focal point of the tour. Too sad the ceiling lights were not illuminated.
The tickets worked great, and Ying helped us with all the logistics and even sent a map showing where to enter the square.
Must admit I wasn't too enthused to go to the show but ended up very impressed. It was extremely colourful costuming with very talented performers, docile peacocks and as promised by the tour guide a spectacular ending with the stage & surrounds being flooded to beat the bad guys!! Thousands of gallons of water went into the scene and really well done. An easy way to spend an enjoyable hour or so and pretty entertaining.
OCR code worked perfectly at the admission check. Visiting the Great Hall of the People is absolutely recommended, because the National People's Congress meets there and state guests are received. Getting in there is time-consuming, however. You have to go through the checkpoints to Tiananmen Square first and then there are further checkpoints - it took me 2 hours for that.
I could not visit the Hall since one had to wait in line for hours just to pass through Tiananmen and access the Great Hall. I asked them the question about access to Viator before the day of the visit on a couple of occasions and they did not give me an answer, as well as some other question that they did not answer either.
It leaves you speechless. The decision room for one and a half billion people.
