Summer Palace Walking Tour

We had an amazing experience with our tour guide during my trip to China. What really stood out was how knowledgeable and passionate Roy has about Chinese history—he didn’t just share facts, but told stories that made each place come alive. We learned so much more than expected, from historical landmarks to everyday cultural insights. Another highlight was the food. Instead of bringing us to typical tourist spots, they introduced us to authentic local eateries and dishes we would never have found on my own. Every meal felt like a new discovery and gave us a deeper appreciation of the local culture. On top of that, Roy is very patient, friendly, and attentive to our needs, making the whole journey smooth and enjoyable. We truly felt taken care of throughout the trip.

Roy is a very pleasant, kind and nice tour guy. He understands China history and explains that very well. Our family took a private tour to the Great Wall with him. We like him so much we took another private walking tour with him. He speaks English very well almost without any accent. His communication skills is great, always answering text promptly. He told me the interesting stories about the emperors of the summer palace and made the tour interactive. He also made good suggestions for the rest of the afternoon. As a female solo traveller, this was the perfect walking tour - Roy was friendly and full of information, he made the tour so interesting through quizzing us and his sense of humour. I would highly recommend if you want to learn more about history and really understand the place. He also always offers to take photos and answer any more questions.

The guide waited for us at the subway station as it was written on information. He was very polite and humorous. He explained a lot things and told us a lot about Chinese history.

If you want to immerse in Chinese history, this is your kind of tour. Affordable tour, easy to walk, friendly to navigate the history, and never boring. Our tour guide Roi is fabulous, he walked us through the last dinastías and their way of living, but also making questions, like trivia’s so you always keep engaged in the explanation, while you visit the most important landmarks of the Summer Palace. I really recommend having this tour with Roi.

The walking tour with Roy was super interesting. He has a LOT of interesting information about the history of China and the Summer Palace. I went with Roy on a custom tour for my friend and I on a day when Roy had no other tourists on the tour. He is extremely dedicated and knowledgeable, and we learnt so much as well. The Summer Palace Walking Tour was my first walking tour with Roy. I did three walking tours with Roy during my stay in Beijing and loved every single one. Before the tour, Roy contacted me to ensure I would be able to find my way to the meeting point. On the day of the tour, Roy met me promptly at the meeting point and explained the different ticketing options I had at the entrance of the Summer Palace. As it was a low-tourism period, I was the only person on the tour, and I was super appreciative that Roy was still willing and enthusiastic about taking me on this tour. At the end of the tour, Roy suggested other walking routes around the Summer Palace. I took his advice and stayed at the Summer Palace until closing time. Not only did I get my steps in, but I also took some great photos and memories. Roy's engaging storytelling made time pass quickly. Although I initially planned to visit the Summer Palace alone, I'm glad I had Roy, as I learnt so much during the tour. This was one of the reasons I decided to book more than one walking tour with Roy. Also, Roy's English is pristine, and he communicated the vast history of the Summer Palace clearly and precisely. Book Roy's tour - you won't regret it.

Summer Palace was my second visit in Beijing. After Temple of Heaven with Roy, I was so enchanted that I decided to repeat, bringing with me up to 8 friends! We were delighted once more to listen to Roy's history and culture interactive classes, while afterwards having time for ourselves walking on the places he recommended us to chill.
