It's located in the north of Beijing, It's about 145km from downtown Beijing, It takes about 2hours and 15mintues by car, Gubei Water town has both the solemn atmosphere of the ancient town in the north and the graceful elegance of the water town in the south of the Yangtze River. The buildings are mostly two-story wooden structures of blue brick and gray tile, built by the water, with many Bridges and channels, presenting a unique style of "small South of the North". Gubei Water Town offers a rowing program where you can paddle the Tanghe River and enjoy the scenery on both sides. We visited Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall in the afternoon / evening after our tour of Mutianyu Great Wall in the morning. Linda helped arrange everything perfectly for the whole day. Gubei Water Town was beautiful, with its charming streets, canals and evening atmosphere. John Woo, our driver for the day, stayed with us throughout and was patient, helpful and never rushed us. He also took us to a fantastic spot to see the lights on the Simatai Great Wall. The Great Wall looked absolutely stunning at night and was one of the most memorable sights of our trip. We had an excellent day and would highly recommend Linda and John.
Amazing little trip! Our driver was safe, speedy, and polite. He gave us good travel advice and some excellent suggestions for eating dinner after the trip. Gubei Wtown as they call themselves in English, was absolutely delightful. As a resort styled after an ancient town, it was convenient, charming, and peppered with cats and cat drawings. Included in that is a giant balloon of a drunken cat that fell asleep on a wall, pretty funny! The Simatai Great Wall area was just awesome, in the most literal sense of the word. The cable car ride up is a great view, and once you reach the wall you feel like you’re at the top of the Earth. The sense of the windswept peace and heavy history is a mood one must experience to appreciate. Overall, fantastic, strong 5/5.
A Once-in-a lifetime in Jinshanling, Gubei Watertown, Simatai Great Wall Experience - Thanks to Mary, the Guide who made it Epic! I rarely write reviews, but what Mary gave me and my husband was so extraordinary that ot deserves every word. This was our first difficult hike in Beijing/ Hebei and we had no idea what to expect. From the moment we stepped into the vehicle, Mary set the tone for the day - she made sure we were comfortable, checked that the seat massage was working and helped us settle in for a long day drive. It was such a small detail, but it showed how much she genuinely cared about our comfort. When we arrived at Jinshanling Great Wall, Mary transformed the experience from a simple hike into a journey through time. She explained the extensive history of the Wall, the dynasties responsible for the section, the purpose behind every beacon and watch tower. She pointed out restored versus unrestored areas and helping us appreciate the raw authenticity of the ancient stones beneath our feet. Before we started, she gave us a clear breakdown of the kilometers ahead, the steep sections, and what to expect at each stage. That preparation alone make the hike feel less intimidating. But what truly, and moved me was how she helped me faced my fear of heights. Some parts of Jinshanling are incredibly steep and she noticed my hesitation immediately. She offered strategies, paced me through the tough climbs and kept reassuring me that I could do it. Her confidence in me slowly became my own. Because of her, I conquered sections I never imagined I would be brave enough to attempt. And she didn't just guide, she elevated the entire experience. She prepared a picnic lunch for us to enjoy during the hike, encouraged us to pause and take in the sweeping views, and helped us capture stunning photos, always mindful of the best angles and lightning. These photos are now some of our most treasured memories. Even when she injured herself along the way, she pushed through with unbelievers energy and positivity. She never once let it affect the experience. She was transparent, attentive, and gave us a level of VIP treatment we never expected. After Jinshanling, the day continued to unfold like a dream. We strolled through Gubei Watertown, mesmerized by its beauty, culture and charm - from its origins to its lifestyle to the food we sampled along the way, Mary shared insights, and little details that made the town come alive. Then come our second hike of the day, Simatai Great Wall, illuminated at night and overlooking the glowing town below. Seeing Simatai after Jinshanling gave us a deeper contrast - rugged history by day, magical serenity by night. Mary didn't just guide us, she connected with us. She showed genuine interest in our interests, tailored the experience to what mattered to us, and proved that she is the real deal - A guide with passion heart, and unmatched dedication. We are truly greatful our path crossed. This wasn't just a tour. It was an epic day, a personal milestone, and an experience that will stay with us for the rest of our lives. Amazing little trip! Our driver Ryan was safe, speedy, and polite. He gave us good travel advice and some excellent suggestions for eating dinner after the trip. We had a private tour and didn't realise the price did not include entrance fees - no point in going all that way if you were not going in!!?? It was an interesting place - looked totally refurbished if you can imagine that happening to a whole village! Glad the cable car took you 3/4 of the way up to the great wall leaving a good 200 crazy paving steps up to the wall itself so not for the inferm or faint hearted. Worth it at the top as great views .
Yuehan was my driver and he was kind and nice and a good driver as we had terrible traffic returning to the city on a Saturday afternoon! There was water and snacks in his car. He helped me buy my ticket at Gubei and got me on my way to the Great Wall. I took the shuttle to the cable car immediately and walked back. Google Translate and Google Maps were very helpful! It was a bucket list item for me and was just what I had hoped for!
Driver Xian is a nice person. He rode safely to water town and brought me back to hotel. He was punctual and he even helped in guiding how to navigate in the water town. Trustable person
Very punctual driver. He spoke English very good and helped us to buy a Ticket entrance to Gubei. The city is worth visiting. It takes about 5 hours to look around and defenetely its better to buy cabin up the Wall and down. Please make sure to download Wechat. Its used widely on China. And if you dont want to be in a car jam, please start the drive at 7:00. It takes 2h to get to the city.
Due to floodings we had to change plans but Linda was very flexible. Her driver took us to different sections of the wall. Good service!
I had an amazing experience with Linda. She contacted me as soon as my reservation was confirmed via WhatsApp and provided all the details about my upcoming trip. The driver, Liu Chao, was punctual and picked me up from the hotel right on time. He was very pleasant and polite, and he provided water and snacks for the ride. Upon arriving at Gubei Water Town, Liu assisted me with buying tickets and explained where he would be waiting for me when I was done. I highly recommend Linda and her company!
Linda was recommended by a friend. She is fluent in both English and Chinese. Car is clean and spacious (6 seater). Ride is smooth and I hardly felt anything since I was able to sleep for a good 2 hours. Linda 是朋友介绍的。 她能说中英语。 车干净宽敞 (能坐6人)驾驶技术好,很顺,我在车里睡了2小时。
Amazing time at Simatai and a lovely relaxing one at Gubei Water Town! Simatai is truly authentic and even though the Water Town is not, we really appreciated all the restaurants and modern amenities. Our driver Davis was awesome. He was on time, friendly, very knowledgeable, and kind. He helped us with getting our tickets, got us where we needed to be, and helped us manage our time very well. He gave us water bottles for the hike, and very good recommendations for the Wall and also Beijing. His English was very good. Taking a car with a private driver was very much worth it, with time being limited and also the weather being so hot. The car was a clean, cool, comfortable, and smooth ride. Linda made sure to confirm all details regarding the logistics, which was reassuring. She was very responsive and organized, and offered us a lot of help. On top of the great experience, we also received some souvenirs from them at the end of the day. 100% would recommend!
We had a fantastic time at Simatai and Gubei Water Town! Being at the Wall in Simatai feels like stepping back in time. The Water Town was quiet since it was a weekday during the daytime, but it has many places to eat which was great after working up an appetite climbing the Wall! Although obviously a recreation, it was still interesting nonetheless. Our driver Davis was wonderful. He was prompt and punctual, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the Great Wall and Beijing. He even gave us extra water bottles after he felt that we didn't bring enough! So kind. He helped us with getting our tickets, explained what we had to do with them, and had very good recommendations on what to do and where to go, both at the Wall and also elsewhere in Beijing. His English was also very good. The car was roomy, clean, in great condition, and really comfortable. Taking public transport to the area is possible and cheaper, but traveling in such comfort, not having to be constrained by the timetables, and saving a lot of time (thus being able to spend more time actually experiencing Simatai and the Water Town) was totally worth it. Linda herself was very communicative before the activity to confirm all the details, which was very much appreciated. She let us know beforehand who our driver was going to be, and offered to help with reserving tickets. She was very responsive whenever we needed anything. On top of the great experience, they even sent us off with some souvenirs at the end of the day. 100% would recommend!
My friend and I used Linda’s Driver Service to get private transport to our Gubei watertown and Simatai Great Wall. Linda messaged me 2 days in advance to confirm everything and introduce us to our driver, 杨师傅 (Mr Yang). Mr Yang arrived to our accommodation 30 minutes in advance so there was no worries about a late pickup, he was also incredibly insightful and helpful throughout our journey! Although we just spoke Chinese throughout the trip, in the beginning we spoke English and he was very proficient ! After we arrived he helped us making sure we had no issues with tickets and then told us to just let him know once we’ve finished with the great wall and that there is no rush! We chose to depart at 12pm, as we wanted to book the night tour ticket of Simatai Great Wall, which completely exceeded our expectations Overall I 100% booking your service through Linda’s Company, and you’ll be very lucky if you get 杨师傅 as your driver !!
Amazing service by Linda for DAYS. Even before we arrived in China, she communicated so clearly about what to expect and what other options / add ons we could avail of throughout our stay. We didn’t use any add ons, but saying no was easy and she was not pushy at all - merely informative. Upon arrival, an unusual gale blew for two days, effectively shutting down Beijing and the surrounding area. She kept in touch letting us know the closures. On day 2 of the gales, she checked all available Great Wall spots within a reasonable distance of Beijing - and alerted us that only one of these was open!! We said yes!!! Simutai Great Wall was a fabulous section!! About a 30 minute walk up from the trailhead (no cable car running due to high winds), but it actually made it more special. We appreciated the skill to build the wall even more as a result. The wall itself is SO steep and incredible!! It felt and looked authentic and original - not touristy at all. It felt wild and rugged. We are so grateful for Linda’s patience and persistence in finding a way for us to visit the Wall over this unusual weather weekend. Otherwise we wouldn’t have had the opportunity to visit the wall, which would’ve been a massive shame. I can’t say enough positive things. Thank you!!
Thank for excellent professional driver help me to visit the Geat Wall . Sure if I will back in China I will use your service to visit other fantastic think . Thank you again
We were picked up at our hotel by Mr Liu, our driver, in a clean Mercedes C-Class. Mr Liu was a safe driver, courteous, and made the 2 hour journey a pleasant one. He was also focused on ensuring that we have a good time; when we asked him what time should we return to the car, he said there isn’t a time limit, key is for us to enjoy ourselves. Outstanding service from Linda’s, highly recommended!
My driver Mr Liu was always on time and drove safely. He also helped with the ticket purchase, and did not set a time limit for us to enjoy the sights, where he said that the key is for us to enjoy the trip. Very good service!
The Simatai section of the Great Wall was challenging and fun, even in the rain. The Gubel water town was modern and interesting. The Water Town did not seem to really come to life until the afternoon. The driver did not speak English, but effectively communicated with a translation app. He purchased Asian pears and moon cakes to enhance our exposure to local products on the trip there and back. He was as good as most guides/drivers who spoke English. It was a very good day.
This tour was amazing , Nicholas my driver picked me up promptly and supported me all the way , helped with setting up we chat , organised my tickets when we arrived at water town , this place is truely beautiful . The chair lift was fantastic giving great views . With limited time I chose the chair lift . The walk to the Great Wall was so special . Nicholas was brilliant , friendly and so kind . The tour director was brilliant as well especially in their communications . 10/10
A fantastic day . Nicolas my driver was friendly and kind. When we arrived he showed me how to get tickets and this place would recommend cable car due to the lack of time . The walk on the great walk at simatsi was brilliant . The water town was quaint and do much fun exploring around it .
Great communication and an amazing, friendly and helpful driver. He even offered a karaoke setup on the way back and we had tons of fun during the trip.
Driver Nicholas was excellent, on time and very professional. I didn’t book a tour guide but he showed me where to go so super helpful and appreciated. I definitely recommend this service, it made the day at The Great Wall more enjoyable.
Our family of 5 had a wonderful experience from start to finish. It was very easy to communicate regarding the pickup time and place. Our guide was also kind to let us spend an extra hour in Gubei Water Town.
Great experience. I had an early flight, pick me directly from the airport to gubei town. The driver, Mr. Fred, was very friendly. He help me purchasing the ticket, gave me directions and I had all the time in gubei town, which is beautiful. Totally recommended. In the end he left me in my hotel, with no additional charge. Linda got in touch with us as soon as we made the reservation, we chose the tour with a Chinese driver and we didn't have any problems with communication since he uses his translation device just as you can use your own translation app. Mr. Chen is very polite and helpful. We stopped for the bathroom and he bought us an ice cream, and after the wall he had some snacks for us. It really was a very nice experience. We chose to leave Beijing at 1 pm and Mr. Chen picked us up exactly where we indicated. He accompanied us to buy the tickets and we went up to the wall at night. Seeing it at night and also the town of Gubei they light it up at 6 pm. Everything was wonderful! Thank you Mr. Chen for being so kind.
Linda is the tour operator and she contacted us immediately via WhatsApp, plus Mr. Chen Kunrui has been very attentive from the beginning, we chose a Chinese-speaking tour and we communicated very well because he carries his translator, we performed the technique to use the sanitary facility, he bought us an ice cream and then accompanied us to buy the tickets. We arrived from the wall and he had some snacks for us, really helpful and attentive to us.
Spectacular place. Transport A1. Excellent service. Punctuality. Ongoing and seamless communication. Fully recommended.
Percorrere un tratto della Grande Muraglia e percepirne il valore storico sia in termini di difesa che di costruzione avvenuto in un periodo di certo dove le tecnologie non erano disponibili .
The tour is great if you have little time like us. Our driver could not speak English, but that was no problem at all, as it works great with the translator in China. He was very personable, did his best and drove very pleasantly. Regarding the wall, we thought at first that we could walk from Gubai to the wall, but there would never have been enough time for that. From the city to the mountain it is a few kilometers. The cable car costs 54€ for two people. Entrance Wall and Gubai 45€. Next time, we'll schedule more time on site.
