The wall itself is an incredible experience. To be there and see local young people helping their grandparents to access the wall made me even more aware of how lucky we were to be there. Our guide was friendly, but he didn’t really tell us a lot about the wall or its history. He was able to answer the questions that I asked, but he didn’t volunteer much or add any little stories. He seemed to just want to rush through things. We did have enough time to walk and take photos though and he did ask if we wanted to rest. One very disappointing thing was that despite paying for it, we were not able to go on the toboggan ride. We lined up for almost an hour and when we got to the front of the queue, we were refused entry because we were over 60. At just 62, and having seen many older looking people go down ahead of us, we were understandably really disappointed. I did a lot of research before booking the tour and I specifically chose this personal tour for the guide and the toboggan ride. I was so excited on the day, so it was a real let down. Our guide said he hadn’t realised our ages as we looked younger. It wasn’t his fault we couldn’t ride, the operator just wouldn’t let us on and as our ticket was connected to our passport, we couldn’t just say we were understandably 60. We felt that this really should have been picked up in the booking process and if the toboggan was not available to people over 60, then we shouldn’t have been able to book this tour.

Itinerary
You will hike on the Mutianyu Great Wall. This section is ranked top on TripAdvisor among all the Great Wall sections due to its picturesque scenery and beautifully restored architecture. This is the most child-friendly section, with various ways of visiting it. In order to save your time, we will arrange a round-trip cable car to ascend and descend the wall, instead of spending about 40 minutes on steps... twice. We recommend “the most beautiful and interesting part of the Great Wall” — between the 14th and 23rd watchtowers — acknowledged by hikers as "the golden route". Your personal guide will walk with you on the Wall to give you some information and to help you if you want photos with the Wall. You will have some free time to walk around after that. Enjoy your time and take in the spectacular scenery for about 2 hours (2–3 kilometers). Walk at your own pace. It is possible to stay longer on the wall or finish earlier as you wish.

Amy is very kind, nice and sweet. She was accommodating and understanding of our challenges with personal space as Americans. The wall was quite a workout, very hot in late August, the crowds were overwhelming and we were not able to stay long due to the difficulty with narrow passages and no space, rude people. Amy moved fast but very god at showing where we can get best pictures. You need to be in moderate shape, this is not for folks who have low physical fitness, many steep hills, slippery in places, a lot of steps. Amy also kindly stopped for local fruit in the drive back for us, it was a special treat! Bring a personal fan and a lot of water!
Grace was an amazing and informative host. This entire day was seamless for our family. Highly recommend booking.
I went to visit the Great Wall during China's public holidays (which means it was very crowded) and thanks to the guide's recommendations we were able to access the Great Wall without any problems. Bobjack is a great guide, very friendly, attentive and very well-informed about the culture and history of China.
Very nice day seing the Mutianyu Great Wall in Winter with the snow around on the mountains ! Everything was well organized including the pick-up at the hotel and we was only two people with our guide Sunny and the driver of the car. She was very attentive to our needd and wishes and speak a perfect fluent english. She gave us all the interesting informations concerning the Great Wall, it's building and the chinese culture. I recommand ! Guy
Jerry, our guide made the trip a reality, very knowledgeable and friendly, our best for him!!! Jerry, lo mejor del tour, lo hizo realidad con dedicacion y cariño.
Comfortable trip . Nice tour guide . Great wall clean and safe . Perfect for photoes . Lunch stop so so .. good food but poor pkace
Sunny was an excellent tour guide with great knowledge and better personality! Highly recommend if you are going to visit the Great Wall!
Communication before to direct correct pickup location for the car with our guide Susie. She was happy and had a lot of useful information about Beijing. The driver was safe and the vehicle was modern, clean, spacious, airconditioned, tinted windows to reduce the sun. A memorable day. Thanks to the tour we could just get through all the sights and see the highlights quickly. Susie called ahead to make sure our lunch was ready for us and took care about any dietary requirements. It was nice to eat in a small group and learn more about the food and customs. At the wall we had time to walk by ourselves and take photos. We went down on the toboggan. If you want to go slow in your group arrange for the speedy people to go first so they can go faster! Thanks for a memorable day! Susie offered to help find tickets for shows and other events if we needed help on our drive back to the city. If you have limited time, this tour packs a lot into one day. If you have more time you can revisit. I would have loved to spend much more time at the Forbidden City. Thanks to Susie and our driver.
We had a great day visiting the Great Wall with our guide King Kong. Very knowledgeable, attentive to everyone in the group and well organised. Many thanks too for encouraging our 10-year old to get up all those big steps. She had a blast and so did we.
I really enjoyed the tour of Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. It was a convenient way of seeing the main tourist attractions in 1 full day. Our guide, Jennifer, was friendly, knowledgeable and professional.
Amazing privilege to visit the Great Wall. Also the guidance through the forbidden city was invaluable. Thank you so much Lily
We had a whole day tour of both Great Wall and Forbidden City with Our guide Sunny and driver Mr Hu. Sites are amazing as they are, there is not much to add to that fame. But the way they were presented to us, the way that stories were told, some as facts and some as fairy tales, is beyond amazing. Understanding signifacance of all things seen can only be attributed to a great guy which Sunny is. Very cultured, well spoken, patient, yet not overbearing and always ready to answer questions of any nature. Gave us enough time on our own too to explore and letting us make choices along the way. No unnecessary shopping side trips, and nothing that will make you feel uncomfortable. She seems to have good relationship with all ticketing counters and managed to skip all lines. Driver was great guy too, managed to smile his way through Beijing traffic, avoiding all the tough spots facing national holiday. He never lost his cool and there was was reasons to. Top professional. Not to forget, they took us to an authentic Chinese restaurant when we said we were hungry, not when they planned it. It was a great place to eat and share tables with locals. All in all, one of the best all day trips we have taken in China. Many thanks once again, it will stay in our memory forever! And one more thing, at the end of the day Sunny also forwarded us a few fotos that she made of us which turned out to be the best of all! Thank you! Thank you!
What a Great Great Wall Tour. Our guide William was very knowledgeable about any topic related to the wall, and China in general. Good photographer too. Lunch was also great. Thanks William!
I booked our tour late one evening for the next day. The company was quick to respond. Dennis and our driver were exceptionally helpful with my son and our wheelchair. Nothing was too much for them. Lunch, with a view of the wall, was fantastic! Dennis was knowledgeable about the history and the area. We ended up adding the Ming Tours onto our Great Wall Tour and a tour of the Jade factory as well. Lovely day! I would book again with Trippest and YES China is possible in a wheelchair!
What a great trip and well worth taking an organised tour ,Jerry our guide was so helpful and very knowledgeable about the Great Wall .The meal was delicious and more than we could eat. The time allocated to spend at the wall itself was ample and that section of the wall is truly spectacular.I would recommend Jerry as a guide .
We loved our 5 days in Beijing with our incredible guide Cactus ! We did both the Badaling and Mutianyu section and loved them both. Mutianyu was the nicest for walking and no crowds the whole way. It was gorgeous, historic, scenic and a great 1/2 day hike. It was steep but you could take your time and enjoy each step ! Loved it all !!
We were on a Travel Asia 8 day tour of China and this was definitely one of the highlights. Age was no barrier as we had from 4 to 75 on our tour and we all enjoyed the history, the climb, our tour guide was exceptional - it was an incredible experience
We spent 3 days with Jimmy from China Highlights in Beijing including a day trip to the Great Wall. We had our 3 children (aged 10, 8 & 6) with us and they had a superb time too. The trip was well organised and Jimmy provided just the right amount of historical information for our family group situation. Hiking the Great Wall was a good work out - but manageable with the ages of our kids. The restaurant we went to afterwards was a real highlight too (can't remember the name but it was in a garden/plant restaurant about 5 minutes drive from Mutianyu Great Wall entrance. Thanks Jimmy!
We scheduled a trip to Beijing and Shanghai for 12 family members, including two 7-year-old twins, two pre-teens/teens,and two grandparents in their 70s. First visit to China for 10 of them! Although we spent most of our time in Shanghai, we did a quick few days in Beijing and wanted to see the Great Wall and celebrate a birthday on the wall as well! But how do you schedule 12 people with diverse needs, diverse food preferences, and possible need for last minute changes to do such an activity? China Highlights was our savior and our guide, Ruth, was amazing! Our private bus+driver and English-speaking guide, Ruth, took us on a day trip to Mutianyu. Since some of our group can't hike much at all, others wanted to hike quite a bit, everyone wanted to do the toboggan, and the little kids couldn't go long without food nor older folks go long without bathrooms, Ruth accommodated a last-minute change requested by us to visit the wall twice in one day with lunch offsite in-between. This allowed everyone to go up the chair lift once, have a quick birthday celebration, and come right down again on the toboggan and leave for lunch (which was diverse enough to have food for our younger picky eaters as well as those with some food allergies). Then we went back again to ride the cable car up and let the hiking-oriented members of the group make their way up to tower 19 and 20 in smaller groups while the folks who needed to take it easy looked around a bit at tower 14, then went right back down and rested in a cafe at the base to wait for the rest of the group. Unbelievably perfect! Everyone got exactly what they wanted without undue stress. No way could we have arranged this on our own without a good, knowledgeable, extremely flexible English-speaking guide and private driver! We are so grateful that our driver and guide were willing to spend the extra time that day to make our trip so successful. It really was above and beyond! And for the days we wanted to spend on our, Ruth provided invaluable info to make it most successful as well as a last-minute added bus just for transit (we were able to add a bonus trip to visit Summer Palace because of her amazing advice). Both China Highlights and Ruth exceeded our expectations. China Highlights is so worth if it you have challenging travel needs.
We booked the China Highlights day tour of the Mutianyu section of the Wall. We were met on time in the hotel lobby by our guide Linda. She and her driver were both excellent. As we were the only bookings for Christmas Day we were driven in a comfortable car rather than a minivan. While we drove out of Beijing Linda explained the history of the Wall and much more. She is a superb guide and when we visit Beijing again we will ask for her! It was a highlight of our holiday.
We have just returned from China. The walk on the Wall was a highlight of course. Due to the cold and one of our group being a little less agile , our guide Sunny was always super thoughtful so recommended we take the cable car rather than the chair lift. There were hardly any tourists which was amazing. January might be cold, but it's a great time to visit. Wear good walking shoes and layers of clothing. Below at the carpark was Freezing.... but on the Wall it was very warm. Try and be walking-fit before you travel so you can get on the Wall and really explore it from on top. We were on a fairly easy section, so unless you're really fit, ask your guide to take you to a flatter area. Its a bit tough on 57 year old knees!! There was a great little coffee shop at the 'touristy area' before you head up (by bus) which made an amazing 'western style' cappuccino and warmed us up. Lots of facilities - souveniers. We bought some dried fruit which was yum and the toilets are modern and clean.
I can't say enough about my great wall tour with China Highlights (Eva). From the hotel meet and greet, to the site-seeing and history lesson, to the great pictures Eva took for me, she's a true professional with a wonderful personality. I truly look forward to visiting again someday and participating in more excursions. Thanks again, Eva!!
To see the great wall is what everybody wants to do when you go to China. Please go to the Mutianyu section you wont regret it. It is by far the best section. It is a bit further than some others but less crowds, best restorations and fantastic views. You can go up and down by cable car but can also choose to go down by Speed chute. Try the last one, its 120 Yuan per person and you are down hill in 5 Minutes.
We were keen not to do a tour that involved side trips to factories or farms....Wanted to walk a different section but that tour wasn't available on the day we could go. We were picked up from our hotel in a minibus and were soon joined by 3 others. Eva, our well versed guide gave us a run down of all the Great Wall facts whilst Mr Dong navigated the busy streets out of town. Had a great lunch before tacking the wall .....warning - don't order too much - we couldn't eat it all. The Wall was amazing - such a good time of year to go - no crowds, cool and BLUE sky! A good 2 hours walking the walls - plenty of time before the toboggan ride down,....which was actually good fun. I know, a World Heritage site and a toboggan ride...what can you do? The best bit of our trip was to come....my husband left his prized woolly hat behind in the van, and after an email sent from home, the wonderful Nikki found it and sent it to us! What fabulous service. For those pressed for time and wanting a hassle free trip to the Wall - would definitely recommend.
Cindy was our tour guide in Beijing and she was very good, gave us time to explore ourselves. Mutianyu looks like a better place to go as less crowded and the drive there is very scenic. Also went to the Forbidden Palace ++++++, must go to see QianLong's private palace, worth much much more the extra 10 Yuan. Thank you very much Cindy, you were great!

Tour guide Lisa was very informative, tour offered to drop participants at different popular sites/ or subway stations on the way back to hotel to get the most out of the day

Well. I guess the best place to start a story is at the beginning...
I received a phone call at 9pm the night before and was told that I and my fellow traveler would be picked up at our hotel by 6:15am the following morning. Unfortunately, the driver was late, actually picking us up around 6:45am and driving like a bat out of hell to pick up a few other adventurers. Once the van was filled, the driver then drove us to a random Beijing street, made us get out of the car, and told us to wait there for the bus that would be arriving in 15 minutes. We were all quite shocked at these instructions, since the street we were on appeared almost deserted save the few locals opening their shops, a handful of early morning patrons, and some stray dogs. But waited we did, for the bus that arrived 25 minutes later. Once on the bus, we made several more stops to pick up more passengers and the tour guide Brian. Once we had picked up all the passengers some 30-40 minutes later, Brian just jumped right into some history of the Great Wall without introducing himself or anything which just felt really abrupt especially considering that there were a lot of confused people on the bus given the events of the morning. But the bus rolled along and we eventually made it to the wall. Brian handed out tickets, my travel buddy and I got ours and took off to climb up to the wall while many others in the group took the cable car. The climb was worth it spectacular views. I have quite a few framable pictures! We met back with the group at a restaurant at the bottom of the mountain where they served mediocre Chinese fare and we got back on the bus to sit for an hour in Beijing traffic and dropped off a block from our hotel. By that time, we were rather fed up with the experience with the transportation and were glad the day was over.
If I had to do it again, I would definitely choose a different company but I would definitely return to the Mutianyu region of the Wall.

Everything was perfect and Louis was very lovely
Very nice walk with our super guide SMILE, everything was well orchestrated, good restaurant also. Chairlift and slides option taken and not regretted!
Discover Beijing with Lidia With my wife we stayed 4 days in Beijing and had the opportunity to tour historical and interesting places and obviously The Great Wall. Understanding the culture of ancient China, in such a short time, is only possible if you have the accompaniment of a professional guide and, if in addition, this is a friendly, humble and kind person you will discover a great country with beautiful people. With Lidia we feel at home, always attentive to our needs and with a smile for every answer. Thank you very much Lidia and a great memory for the driver!
My private tour from Beijing to Mutianyu Wall with visit to Ming Tombs was absolutely perfect. Driver and guide punctual, kind and absolutely helpful. They helped me in every way (I was out on crutches) respecting all my times. Interesting visits. The guide, Coco, very nice and prepared.
