Jiankou is incredible, strongly recommend it. We are two relatively unfit people but it wasn’t too challenging, and the guide Michael was incredibly patient and understanding. Can’t say enough good things about Michael. Very patient, perfectly fluent in English. Spoke at lengths about the history of everything we saw and even shared recommendations about the rest of our time in Beijing which added great value for us.

Itinerary
At 7:30am, your professional hiking and historian tour guide will pick you up from your hotel for the Great Wall hiking from Jiankou to Mutianyu. After a 2-hour drive, you will first arrive at Jiankou Great Wall, an unrestored and untouched wild Wall. Jiankou has more twists and turns as it wriggles up the mountain ridge. It has retained its original state without any restoration, and reveals beautiful imperfections, wildness and primitive simplicity, it's regarded as the most precipitous and picturesque section of the Great Wall which was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644).
After 3 hours hiking accomanied by your tour guide, you will reach to Mutianyu Great Wall, the longest fully-restored section open to tourists. As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, Mutianyu section used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs. After a long hiking, you can choose to take a cable car down or slid down by toboggan (at your own expense). Or simply walk down. Then enjoy a tasty lunch at a nice local restaurant. Your tour ends with drop-off at your Beijing hotel.

We had a great time on this hike, and I appreciated getting to see an area of the Great Wall that was quiet less busy. This is my first and probably only time getting to come here, and I am glad I chose this tour! Our tour guide was great as well!
This is a one of a kind experience that starts away from the tourist crowds. It is very unique to hike the ‘wild’ section of the wall and you need to be in above average physical shape as the trek is strenuous. Our guide, Roy, was friendly and deeply knowledgeable about the history and construction of the wall. It is was challenging but I can’t imagine experiencing the wall any other way. It was a really great day.
Our tour guide Michael was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Great Wall. He gave great attention to us and assistance. He was also very funny and helpful. You start with a lovely hike through the surrounding wilderness up to the first tower of the wall in the wild section. Then you get to hike original parts of the wall where no other tourists are which was an amazing experience. You finish off with a lovely Chinese lunch. I would recommend this tour to any body who wishes to experience the great wall authentically without heaps of tourists.
The Great Wall of China is magnificent, but your help was priceless. We were deeply impressed by the supreme professionalism of the entire team and especially our guide Michael. Thank you for not leaving us to deal with our connection problems alone. You are a company that can be trusted 100%!
Violet from Beijing Tour Guide introduced herself via WhatsApp not long after we booked and was excellent in making sure this experience and a couple of other tours we booked (subsequently through Violet) ran like clock work. Violet arranged the transport/drivers (Kong was excellent in the hectic traffic and narrow roads) and for Michael (English speaking) to guide us for what turned out to be 2.5 days across Forbidden City, The Wall and The Summer Palace. Our party (three ~50yrs and two ~18yrs) are all of medium fitness and the climb to the wall was solid with due reward at the top and then the relatively easy walk along the top of the old section. Amazing scenery with an occasional other person and this was the start of Golden week - so as busy as it gets! There are some steep sections including the decent - Michael was patient and moved along at our pace. We never waited long for a pick up once we had finished any of the walks. Each afternoon he recommended excellent restaurants for us in close proximity to our hotel. Michael was knowledgeable about Chinese history and clearly a very experienced guide who tailored things to our interest. He developed good rapport with us and has a good sense of humour. We will recommend Violet, Beijing Tour Guide and Michael to our friends and family - they were excellent.
We originally planned a private tour of Jianguo to Mutianyu for two. Due to recent storms, the tour guide directed us to the wall in Jinshangling. Additionally, our party grew to six. They were extremely accommodating. The tour was phenomenal. We were not disappointed. Like most groups, there are varying degree of fitness with each person. Michael took care of each of us. I strongly recommend this tour service. Thank you for making this trip memorable.
We had an amazing time and our guide, Mark, was really cool and precise. The hike was a bit of a challenge in some part of the wall, but worth the view. Totally recommended.
It was a great day with Mark. They picked us up from the hotel and they brought us to Jiankou Great Wall. The hiking was exciting and beautiful even if challenging and Mark guided us amazingly. At the end of the Mutianyu Great Wall we also had a delicious meal. Finally they brought us back to the hotel. I would recommend this experience to everyone who wants to experience the history of the Great Wall and wants some hiking vibes. Not for everyone, but amazing ✨
This was a fantastic way to experience the Great Wall! Good hard hiking. Weather wasn’t great so views were limited but our guide, Jiang, entertained us the his knowledge and stories of the wall.
The trip was amazing! We lucked out with great weather and our guide Micheal was the absolute best! He was so kind his English was amazing, and he went out of his way to help us with more than just the Great Wall tour. Highley recommend!!! And the hike from Jiankou to Mutianyu is definitely worth it to see the wall and get to explore without the crowd.
We had an amazing experience, hiking the unrestored sections of the Great Wall, where we started in Jiankou. If you truly want to experience the wall, don't do the tourist, fully restored sections. Do the remote, unrestored sections. There were no people, only amazing views and the wall as it was originally constructed. It does require a moderate level of fitness however. Our guide Michael was excellent also. Very knowledgeable, as well as personable. Highly recommend this tour to truly experience the wall as it should be.
We loved our driver who was so happy and friendly and attentive. Michael is a most excellent and informative guide. I am a fit 64 year old and enjoyed the challenging climb although my 20 year old daughter kept saying 'come on dad'. Michael took good care of us and when we arrived up there it was glorious. Nobody up there other than a few locals. My daughter held a praying mantis and other small animals. You absolutely need the guide to take a few detours and offer some choices. When you finally arrive at the restored touristic part of the wall you realize how many orders of mag itude better has been your experience of the wall but the tour enables you to see both the restored and the touristic u restored parts and to descend with the gongols. Finally driver took us to a traditional North Chinese restaurant known to michael a real treat not to be missed. The car was very comfortable and the hours there and back passed blissfully.
Amazing guide, I highly recommended. Friendly and helpful. Whenever you visit Beijing contact him and enjoy your time.
Great day visiting the Great Wall. Perfect weather for clear pictures and Justin made our day great. We loved hanging out with him. Got to hike to the wall a couple hours from Beijing and walk along restored and unrestored portions of the wall. Toboggan down the hill at the end was also really fun
May was a great guide. A section of the wall was closed, but May found the detour trail and we were back on the wall in no time. The hike is tough, be prepared for climbing and scrambling over obstacles. Well worth it for the views without the crowds.
Great hike despite the detour. We couldn’t do the planned hike to Mutianyu due to officers along the route requiring us to go back down. I was still able to see and hike a part of the Great Wall I’d never seen before. I was grateful for as much as I got to hike and even had the personalized opportunity to visit a tea house after the hike.
Today we had a lovely hiking tour with Jason! The hiking tour was unforgettable, we really had a good time! 🥾🇨🇳 Thanks for everything Jason! 😁
Great experience, started the hike in an area where the wall is in its unrestored state and with almost no other people around. Peter is an excellent guide, very knowledgeable, friendly and speaks very good English. We would highly recommend this hike.
Just an awesome way to experience the Wall in its unrestored state with hardly anyone else around. The transportation was first rate. My guide was friendly and courteous. The drop-off is at a small village and the hike begins. The hike is a fairly strenuous mountian climb up, perfect to experience the local forest and get "leg day" done. The climb comes to the Wall at a watchtower, requiring a short improvised ladder to enter. Then just meandering on top of the wall, by yourself (came across only 3 other people on this part of the tour), is just magical. Even though, being unrestored, it is perhaps not as photogenic as the restored sections, the lack of other people and the silence and seeing nature slowly reclaim things allowed my imagination to concentrate on what life would have been like back then. There is just enough danger on the hike up and wandering to make it feel like a true adventure. My only disappointment was that the hike up and along the unrestored section ended too early, I could have done that all day. The last part of the wall is along a "tourist" section, restored, and finishes with either a cable car or walk down (client choice). After the hike lunch at a very nice restaurant was provided. Expect about 4 hours of hiking depending on pace, 3 1/2 hours of driving, and an hour for lunch. Definitely recommend for those in the mood for a difficult climb rewarded by have a good section of the Wall to yourself.
This was an amazing experience. The guide (Jenny) was very friendly and open. The views of unrestored part of Great Wall are awesome. A must see tour/experience if you are in Beijing and want to see the real Great Wall as it is!
We had a brilliant experience visiting the Great wall of China. The company was very accommodating to our needs, took us to a fantastic location and provided an excellent lunch. Lucy our guide was lovely, spoke great English and was very knowledgeable!
Great Wall, whichever part you wanted to visit he is the man to go to. We chose to take the cable car up and down and walk the Wall from Mutianyu to Jiankou - it was unbelievable, words just can't express how amazing the whole experience was. The views, the feel of the history in every step and stone. We didn't want to leave, it was so magnificent. We would highly recommend Jonny for whatever part of the wall you want to visit, the difficult for the very fit, or the more gentle parts for the not so fit. He does overnight camping on the wall, whatever you choose to do you will enjoy.
We did this day trip with our 8-year old son and he hiked this section no problem. Our guide Dennis and his driver picked us up at our hotel in a new minivan. It was a private tour for just our family. Dennis gave us great history all the way to the Wall. He spoke excellent English and gave very clear expectations. There was never any up-selling or awkward moments that sometimes accompany a tour. Everything was very easy and professional with this company. I highly recommend! Dennis was superb. This is a fair bit of hiking - much of it uphill. If you are in bad shape, it will hurt but it's doable. If you are in moderate shape, you'll be sore in the calf muscles. If you are in great shape, it's a breeze. This is a WAY better option than just going to see the wall on a bus. Hiking along the unrestored section toward Mutianyu gave us time to marvel at the vastness of the wall and the surrounding mountains. Must Do's: - Take the toboggan down. - Eat at the local chain dumpling restaurant at the bottom of the wall in Mutianyu. - Go in mid-October (before the leaves drop off) to miss the big crowds.
As a family of five (kids 18,16 and 9) we hiked from Jiankou to Mutianyu. We took a private tour with Roy as our guide. It’s a steep hike through the forest up to the great wall, quite an excersise. Make sure you bring water and snacks ( the included lunch is actually around 3.30PM) The views are awesome and there were hardly any other people at the Jiankou part of the wall. Maybe because it was slightly raining and misty, which actually made the experience even better. Would defenitely recommend Roy as a guide. Pick up from the hotel was accurate. He speaks perfectly well English and shared his great knowledge with us. Could not have done this without him.
It was an intense day but well worth it. No pictures can describe being there.. our guide Lucy was just perfect beginning to end. Very punctual madshe heknew very ewellthe treck as well as Chinese history. She sure we fully enjoyed it. Highly recommend
Well organized day trip that was moderately difficult. Arrangements Fabiola’s. Guide very knowledgeable, pleasant young man.
Wow - what an incredible experience. Justin our guide was just wonderful. It was very knowledgeable from the outset and was great with communication. He took us to a very isolated area where we were able to hike through the forest to the unrestored parts of the Great Wall. It was magical. Definitely would have not been able to explore the areas we did without his guidance. Would 100% recommend this tour and Justin. Thanks again, I look forward to seeing you again some day! Cheers, Michael
The hike is brutal at times but the experience and views are worth it! We had a wonderful day at the Great Wall and our guide, Peter made it very enjoyable! Would highly recommend this!
We were met promptly by our guide, Miko, who was engaging, funny, educational with fantastic English skills. He went at our pace, clearly knew the hiking trail and the interesting history of the Great Wall of China. Miko showed us a fantastic day and we both had an experience that we will never forget!
He picked us up on time with a spacious car. The hike was amazing and Miko showed us some hidden places! Miko is a great tour guide and i enjoyed his stories and his jokes. Great lunch after the hike! Thanks , hope to see you again my friend!
The trip with our guide Miko was amazing. We did not have to worry about anything, they picked us up from our hotel in a big van and we were only 3. The tour we did was perfect because we first walked on the original part to then go to the touristic renovated part. Miko did everything we asked and even arranged for us to have a nice dinner and do the slide down from the wall. Without him we would not have the same experience, he made it so easy and really amazing. It was a really nice experience!!!
Miko was a very good guide, very funny and made the walk very enjoyable. Great wall was great ;) the food for lunch was great too.
Me and my family had a great tour with our guide Jack. This tour was the Highlight of our Trip to Beijing. I done this tour with my wife and 12 year old son. Jack was very helpful during the tour and even lent one of his personal walking sticks to my wife. The lunch provided on this tour is excellent also. I highly recommend this tour and Jack as a Guide.
It was the experience of a lifetime to actually walk along an unrestored section of the Great Wall. Unfortunately the weather was extremely hot (August) but Jack was a capable and thoughtful guide. He didn't hurry us and allowed plenty of rest stops with snacks and cool drinks. He picked us up on time,we were transported in a comfortable, air conditioned car and he looked after us at all times. Thanks to his care and attention, our group of three older ladies had a wonderful day out.
Miko is an excellent tour guide with the requisite skills for a 5 star experience. He is attentive and anticipates potential challenges. He is very knowledgeable and his command of English is very very good. One could not have a better experience. DGM
Jack was our guide on the Jiankou to Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. We were very impressed by Jack and his expertise. Jack is a wealth of knowledge and knows the outback sections of the Great Wall like the back of his hand. He is an excellent guide. If you visit the Beijing area do yourself a favor and book a hike with Jack. You will learn a great deal and have a wonderful time.
I enjoyed the Great Wall hiking trip from Jiankou to Mutianyu with Lucy. It was a fantastic experience for us
This was the highlight of our entire trip to China. If you are deciding whether or not to do it, DO IT! Miko was a great guide. Not only was he knowledgeable, but friendly and professional with great English. We went in late November and the wall was spectacular. On the wild portion we only ran into five other people. The trail leading up was steep, but you could view portions of the wall on the top, so it kept you motivated to keep going, and Miko stopped to give us breaks whenever we needed them. After the steep climb up it was mostly downhill with the most amazing views. Lunch was very good. We even got to see a Chinese health inspection. Very interesting. I highly recommend this tour.
I would highly recommend Lucy for the Great Wall hiking trip from Jiankou to Mutianyu. It was a fantastic experience.
Peter our guide was great and brought us on a great route with not many crowds. Also brought us for a delicious authentic meal afterwards. Highly recommended tour and guide.
My wife and I would highly recommend Jack, our guide. He organized the whole Great Wall hiking trip. We had excellent time.
We would highly recommend this tour. Our guide Roy was friendly, funny and knowledgable. The scenery is breathtaking, especially the first unrestored part of the wall where you can see the wall in its natural beauty and where you can avoid the crowds before meeting up with the restored part of the wall which is also spectacular. I also recommend the cable car and toboggan which was a lot of fun. The lunch was also fantastic local Chinese food. Very tasty. Fantastic day all round.
We had a wonderful day with Jimmy and your driver. They took excellent care of us. Jimmy is great. It was a difficult hike for everyone initially, but he kept our spirits up and was very professional. He was particularly good with my wife who had the most difficult time of the group. Lunch afterwards was excellent. In the time we've been in China, that was our best meal by far. The whole experience just had this authenticness to it. Never done anything like it before and will never forget it. Very happy. Very satisfied.

I'd give this 6 stars if I could. Amazing experience. Our guide Jerry was the best. The time you get on the wall is fascinating and so amazingly private. I really couldn't imagine going back and doing it more traditionally bus to a cable car to the wall. This experience just felt so authentic and was so meaningful.

That said, parts of this hike are strenuous. You start by hiking up a mountain for an hour. It's difficult enough that the driver stays put and calls the guide to make sure the guests are gonna make it. But then after that hour, ti's pretty easy going. Finally there is a bit of a tough decent at the end that keeps your knees under tension for a while. Probably if you balance the hard and the easy you get a moderately difficult activity, but the hard parts are pretty hard.

An amazing experience though. Worth losing some weight and getting in shape for it. It was so authentic....six stars. And tip your guide cause he does the hike too. Never seen a guide work so hard.

This trip was great and well worth the rather high cost. By having a Private Tour our guide Jasson was able to schedule the pace of the considerable climb to the capabilities of my wife and I. The lunch following the tour was really great and first class. Some tours cheap out on the meal. Not this one. Our guide Jasson was knowledgeable and enhanced the experience. I would definitely recommend this tour
This trip is amazing for people who enjoy hiking and being outdoors. I spent a little less than 4 hours total hiking upto the wall and getting back to the car. Miko was a spectacular guide! Very knowledgeable and had much patience with me on the more challenging sections, I enjoyed his information on the history of the great wall and other points of interest.
Our tour of the Great Wall of China was an amazing experience and we saw the part less traveled by tourists. Jack was a great tour guide - he was a wealth of knowledge, and very friendly and easy going. It will definitely be added to my personal 'highlight-reel' of life experiences. I highly recommend this tour, and Jack's tour-guide experience and expertise.
We had two tour guides while in Beijing - Jack was far and above the best. He did a great job telling us what we were seeing, showing us the intricacies of the Great Wall and Ming Tombs, and was just overall an awesome guide. We wished he had been our guide the next day around sights in Beijing. If you can get Jack as a guide you'll be lucky.
Mark was a spectacular guide! Very knowledgeable and had much patience with us on the more challenging sections. We enjoyed his information on the history of the great wall and other points of interest. The food at the end of the tour was the best during our trip. Much thanks to Mark, his tour was one of the highlights of our trip!
