He gave excellent advice on when to get picked up to beat the lines and provided excellent commentary once we arrived. I got great experience and enjoyed my tour with Jimmy to the Great Wall in Beijing. Jimmy meet me in the airport and brought after to the hotel. Jimmy explained me interesting and historical information about the place, we arrived to the Wall and walked there enjoying the view, place and clean air. It is very exciting to walk up on the Wall which is amazing ancient construction. We had a good lunch after in the place, there are variety of restaurants. The Mutianyu Great Wall is definitely a must visit early in the morning during winter when crowds are absent! As the saying goes, he who have never been to the Great Wall is never a hero! Breathtaking views amidst history, you’re transported in time among the stone and bricks! My guide Jimmy was exceptionally knowledgeable in history and gave me a very good rendition of the creation and the existence of the structures through the thousands of years in time. Truly remarkable to be able to experience this with someone as informed as Jimmy is!
Jimmy showed me and my sister the Great Wall of China:) He drove us there and back safely and he was very kind and knowable. We even got to do extra things like shopping! And because we are from Canada, and do not know how to speak Chinese, he also helped us translate! He even took photos for us and rode in the bus up and down the Great Wall and the hair lift too! I would highly recommend doing a tour with Jimmy because it is very small not like big bus where it’s very busy!!!! We feel so lucky, you will not regret it, thank you Jimmy!
Even though the private tour normally starts at 8 Jimmy picked us up at 7 in the morning at the airport as our flight arrived very early. Traffic was fine at this time of the day and Mutianyu wasnt crowded at all when we arrived around 8 on November 5 2025. Jimmy was a great guide. He got all the tickets for us and had a lot to tell about the wall and its history. He brought us up to wall and then let move around at our own pace. We took the cable car up and the slide down (both at extra cost which we knew). Since therer were no crowds yet we finished quickly and were gone before the tour groups came. Jimmy brought us back to the hotel in the city. We can recommend Jimmy and his tours to everyone. His english is very good.
The wall was a sight to see, and Jimmy was helpful and gave us space to explore on our own. He also helped book the cable car and toboggan in advance to avoid additional wait time.
My parents and I had a great day at the Mutianyu Great Wall. Jimmy was great and collected us at the airport (showed loads of patience given customs took ages). He’s a great driver and guide helping us get the best of the wall and was extra careful with my mom who had a sore leg. I fully recommend him as he has a wealth of experience and knowledge when it comes to the Great Wall. He was also extra nice and got us the tickets for the cable car hence we didn’t have to waist time in queues. Additionally he helped us find a souvenir shop where I could pay with my card which was great! At the end of the day he took us to our hotel and made sure all was ok. Jimmy was great in meeting with us and taking us to the Great Wall. His suggestions that we start out early and that we take the open cable cars to the Wall were spot on as there were far fewer people on the Wall when we arrived compared to how many there were when we were returning from the closed cable car terminal area. Once on the Wall, he explained to us the best direction to take and why and left to wait for us. Being of more mature age, we were tired on the way back and the tobaggon ride queue was long, so we kept him waiting close to an hour on our return to the souvenir shops area. However, he had no complaints. He suggested a Chinese restaurant where we had a late lunch. Have to admit that we were not very impressed with the food, but that was most probably due to our choice of the dish. Returned to the hotel late due to an accident on the highway, but he was always cheerful. He is also a very careful and concientious driver. Nice, clean and spacious vehicle. For those of you wondering why the tour guide does not accompany you during the walk on the Wall, clearly they would not survive for long if they took everyday the same walk that the tourists did :) as it consists of climbing and descending many stairs of differing heights as well as slopes up and down. It is likely that even very athletic people cannot hope to do that every day as a job. Thank you Jimmy for an enjoyable experience.

Jimmy Zhang was our guide. Thank you Jimmy for taking care. He speaks very good English. Gets all the tickets in advance so you don't have to wait anywhere. Excursion takes about 7 hours 2h outward , 3h on site, 2h return. Walking on the wall is already very strenuous as it is very steep and uneven. It is therefore best to book the chairlift as well.
We decided to book flights wirh a long stopover in Beijing (Capital Airport) located north of city specifically to visit the Great Wall of China with our kids. Jimmy was the perfect host, easy to communicate with and you don't need to worry about the logistics at all! He is easy to find in front of cafe at exit (also has good coffee). Jimmy gets your Wall tickets in advance as well. He parked his clean minivan as close as possible to the airport exit. When we got to the Wall area he discussed all the options and costs regarding chairlifts, gondolas, walking, and found out the real closing times from the people running it (we were there late afternoon on a Chinese long weekend) so we were able to do the chairlift up and toboggan down (which was a real highlight) while maximising Wall time. Then, we went to a great restaurant at the base and had dinner with Jimmy watching the sunset before he drove us back to the airport (our flight was 1am). This experience will be a family highlight! This tour was fantastic! Jimmy was a great guide and made the entire process very simple. I am a solo, young female traveler and this tour was perfect - Jimmy suggested beforehand that we start early since it was one of the busiest tourist days of the year, and he was extremely prompt and professional. He took care of everything with the tickets and provided some useful history of the wall. He walked the first section with me, providing more guidance and history, and then gave me as much time as I wanted alone to explore the wall. It was good overall! Jimmy was very kind and professional, he picked us up at the hotel and accompanied us all the way to the Great Wall, we then had some free time to walk around. (Do not expect the tour guide to stay with you while you are on the Great Wall). Just a suggestion: I think that the tour narrative can improve a little bit, as I feel that most of the information we got was very general, didn’t have much details about the history / importance of the Great Wall. We visited during a work day, so it was not crowded at all. Keep in mind that it’s like a 2 hour drive from Beijing each way. If you’re looking for a private tour, stress-free trip I would recommend it, you don’t have to worry about anything (you just have to buy the tickets for the cable cars if you like, or you can walk to the top)
