Mini Group: Half-day Great Wall At Mutianyu Hiking Tour

Had a great trip with Dennis - he picked me up at the hotel at the time set, and we were walking through the partially repaired, unrepaired and restored parts. The starting was especially beautiful - a lot of nature without many people at all. The restored part had tons of people, but what can you do.

Bob chen was a brilliant tour guide and our great wall hike was a highlight of our trip to China.He gave us loads of great photo opportunities and we went at a pace which suited us.

We finally became “true man/woman”, you’ve just got to experience this. We took the small group half day tour last week, our knowledgeable and very helpful guide Jin along with the experienced driver Mr. Wong, added to the experience and memories of a lifetime. Took a little longer than 5hrs as stated but all so worth it.

I was worried that we might not be able to do the tour due to the snow but I then ended up with a private tour as there was a low turnout due to snow and being in December. My guide Jin was excellent and we had a great walk, it was challenging in the snow but we made it all the way. Lunch was tasty, we ate after the hike which I think was a good idea. Thanks Jin. Only warning is make sure you have a feel for the currency exchange if you are buying any tourist items as they start at top dollar.

Sunny was great, called me at hotel the night before, arrived at hotel, wall, lunch and hotel on schedule. Gave great history lesson, choices on how to get up and down the wall. Lunch was tasty. i arranged airport pick up and train departure with china highlights which i think is the parent company. Sunny held our hand all the way into the train station and made our departure from Beijing super easy and comfortable.

Ir was a great day!! I really recomend ir!!! A experience to do again in a next visit to China, perhaps on another time of the tear.

Every single aspect of the program was exactly the same like it was written when I booked the tour. Sunny, the tour guide passionately talked about all the history and was really open to answer all the question the group had. No hidden costs, no reason to be worried about anything! The driver came at the scheduled time, Sunny informed me about pickup details the day before, during the tour she kept us updated about each detail; on every way the tour is organised perfectly! The tour is quite shorter than the other ones, so if you don’t have plenty of time or you want to combine it whit other attractions in Beijing, this tour is the best choice! There is two options to go up and down: cable car and chairlift (up)-toboggan (down). If you are not afraid of height and want some adventure, I definitely recommend to opt for the second. Absolutely an amazing day!

I booked this trip to the Great Wall. 2 days after book, I discovered I had accidentally booked the wrong date less than 24 hours before the wrong date I booked. Fortunately Tracy was super accommodating, was was able to reschedule use for roughly a week later. +1 star for that (although I guess I cant give more than 5 stars) Lunch was amazing. Some of the best food we had during our time in China. Rico picked great options. Driver was really good to (I never caught his name). He had the perfect mix of being aggressive enough to feel like we weren't going to be stuck in traffic all day, but being safe enough where I never felt worried about safety. Everything at the Great Wall went smoothly. The one downside (and this is probably because I am a Ph.D. engineer), is I would have liked more information. Rico spent about 20 minutes talking about the great wall at two different locations, but I would have liked to have learned more. For example, where did the rocks come from, what were the construction methods, what was the 3 building structure in the pass, and even stories/legends about the great wall would have been nice. Once again, I realize that this may not be important to most, and others may even prefer less time talking. This would maybe be -1/2 star, but the flexibility with the booking more than made up for this. So overall a solid 5 stars.

Cactus' english was some of the best I had heard in the country and she was very knowledgeable and chatty, which made the bus ride there very interesting! We stopped for lunch on the way which had a variety of food to try and was very delicious. I recommend doing the toboggan down the wall as this added an exciting end to the tour. The view from the wall itself was incredible.

I booked this trip a day before we arrive in Beijing. Spoke to David and guided me with the hassle free booking. We went to Mutianyu Great Wall and it was amazing. Before our hike to the Great Wall, we had a beautiful lunch which is incuded in the tour. Special mention to our tour guide Judy. Even though traffic to the wall was very heavy, Jennifer and our driver did everything possible to get us there quickly and safely. Jennifer was great at explaining everything and getting our group special fast entry into the chair lift. I will come back again if she is my guide.

Olivia and her driver picked us up at our hotel and on the drive to The Great Wall Olivia gave us a comprehensive history of The Great Wall - how/why it was built, etc. We stopped for lunch and sampled some delicious local cuisine (Olivia recommended her favourite dishes). Then on to The Great Wall. We watched an immersive 4D production detailing more of the history of The Great Wall. We then took the chair lift to Tower 4, taking in the beautiful vista of the Wall and all who live in its shadow. We walked to Tower 2 and touched the stones previously touched by others centuries ago. Then after our walk we raced down to our starting point on our own toboggans. We had the best fun, made even more enjoyable and memorable by our experienced, knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly tour guide, Olivia. If you want to experience the majesty of The Great Wall, be well looked after, and have loads of fun, I recommend engaging Olivia as your tour guide!!

Booked the mini group Forbidden City and Great Wall tour for my mums 60th birthday and the day was perfect! Our tour guide, Cactus, shared a lot of interesting historical information with us and made us feel comfortable throughout the day. 10 out of 10, I would highly recommend ☝️🙂

Two of us were very lucky because we ended up getting upgraded to a private tour with Cactus. Cactus picked up us early at our hotel lobby and texted us the night before. This is great because we did a couple tours in Beijing during our visit and there are a lot of promises of calling before with no follow through! But Cactus was great, she texted us the day before with a time, then was there on time in our lobby. We had a lovely car with great air conditioning and water. The drive is about 2 hours where Cactus explained some history and when we wanted to nap she was very nice about it! =) When we got there Cactus took very good care of us even though it was very hot, she luckily brought extra fans with her which we are very thankful for! We went in July and it's very hot!!! So be aware. There is a choice of cable car (fully enclosed etc) or ski chair lift (open). I'm quite scare of heights so the cable car was perfect, only about 6minutes up and very pleasant. Cactus walked with us on the wall and explained everything and answered questions. After the wall we had a delicious meal at a local restaurant, then an easy drive back to the hotel. We did do other trips with Trippest, and it really depends on the actual tour guide, but Cactus was definitely the best. Thanks so much.

Our tour guide, Lynn, was very helpful! She not only guided us on the Great Wall but she was extremely nice and showed us where to go to taste the best Roasted Peking Duck in Beijing and other local food! She literally walked with us to the place so we don’t get lost! That was really customer service at its best!

Thanks to those guys again, for allowing me to visit the Great Wall. An awesome experience. The allowed me to skip the lunch and enter the Wall instantly instead. What awesome views and what a great experience! Just a couple of note: - Not close to a half-day as the title suggests. It took the full day from door to door - I cannot say much about the lunch. But considering even though, time on the wall itself was already limited, with hindsight this seems like a total waste of time. Still this tour is highly recommended, just be aware of what you want and voice your wishes. Then nothing stands between you and a great visit to the Great Wall of China

Our experience with this tour was perfect: very small group (the two of us + other 2 people), a comfortable minivan picking us directly at the hotel and a guide - Jerry - who has been helpful, kind and funny during the whole experience. We only had one stop during our way to Mutianyu - a nice restaurant where we had a very pleasant and comprehensive lunch (as included in the program). No stops for forced shopping or undesired additional "experiences". Jerry very quickly helped us getting the necessary shuttle bus and chair lift to get to the top of the wall; explained us everything we needed to know about the wall and how to move around, walked a bit with us and took pictures, and then gave us one hour to move around the wall following his suggestions (1hr is enough for a nice walk - and back - to see the wall and the surroundings from different scenic points). Needless to say, the Great Wall itself is amazing - lives up to the expectation. The trip back was longer, as anticipated, because of Beijing traffic but we got back directly to our hotel perfectly in time. During the drive Jerry shared some information about not only the wall, but life in Beijing and in China in general. He was readily available for any request (e.g. he helped me fixing access to my WeChat app) and provided us with unlimited fresh water - a must before and after a walk under the summer sun! We really enjoyed this tour and would recommend it for a worry-free, time efficient Great Wall experience. And getting there after lunch apparently helped us avoiding the touristic peak hours of the morning - we didn't experience any queue and there were not too many people on the actual wall, so that we could take picture with no-one in sight.

This past fall my husband and I, along with another couple, traveled for 2 weeks in China. Beijing was our first stop and our trip to the Great Wall at Mutianyu, booked with China Highlights, was a trip to remember! The Great Wall is a must see, mind-blowing experience. The views as we rode the cable car up to the Mutianyu section of the Wall were spectacular enough but once we began walking wall, the experience and scenery were like no other! Our guide, Mike, was wonderful. Pick-up at the hotel was prompt, Mike was engaging and informative and seemed to genuinely enjoy being with us, he organized a delicious lunch for us, and then we when returned to our hotel we expressed interest in seeing a Kung Fu show which he then coordinated for us, organizing our transportation and meeting with us after the show to make sure our entire day went well. Thank you Mike and China Highlights!

Booked a small tour group (6 persons) for the Half day Mutianyu Great Wall Tour. Everything was perfect, driver was 10min earlier than agreed pick-up time and the food they served us at the wall was simply amazing. We had a ton of luck with weather (sunny) amd day chosen (Friday) so the wall wasn't crowded and the views were breathtaking. Also enjoyed the tobogan ride down. Overall, great experience, just as advertised, and Michael was a great guide!

We were a party of four. Our guide Alicia picked us up at our hotel. She had rung ahead to the hotel as it was in a Hutong and not easy to find. Alicia was incredibly enthusiastic and her English was excellent. In addition to giving us useful information about the wall she also gave us an insight to her life and to living in Beijing which was fascinating and confirmed our positive views of China. The tour was just what we hoped for. The stretch of wall at Mutianyu is very dramatic and scenic as it stretches into the distance along mountain ridges. There are some stiff climbs involved if you choose to go in one direction (which we did) but it was less demanding in the other. The timing of the tour ( leaving Beijing at 10.30am) was spot on as we arrived when the morning tour groups ( the busiest time) had gone but before the afternoon visitors. That meant no queue at all for the cable car either way, and that the wall was very quiet. We had lunch after our walk which meant that the restaurant we went to was quiet. We don’t usually bother with lunch but the food was surprisingly good and we enjoyed it. All in all a well organised tour with an excellent guide.

Would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see the great Wall and dodge the crowds you'd get at Badaling. The wall here at Mutianyu magnificent, it looks just what you imagine it to look like, we went on a Monday and it wasn't very busy. Theres a few options on how to get to the great Wall from the base of the hill, one is gondola up and back, or chairlift up and back, or take a toboggan down! If you choose the gondola up and the tobaggan you have to pay an extra fee, since two separate companies run each lift. It's well worth the extra fee to take the toboggan down, it's great fun! Or tour guides name was Cactus, she was great, very informative and a pleasure to be around. She was a great help taking pictures for us, finding the best places and angles, she's pretty much a professional haha. Totally recommend this tour! And would do it again in a heartbeat! Pretty much as stated in spec. I was picked up at 10:15 and taken to a meeting poin where we were joined by a couple of people and our guide. The journey took some time due to the terrible traffice fleeing out of the city on a Saturday. Fortunately the car was both comfortable and climate-controlled. The lunch was really excellent. Chosen by our guide "Peter", it came to 5 courses, and we couldn't finish it all. On the way, Peter gave us an excellent potted history of the wall, most of which I didn't know. On arrival at "base camp" We changed to a shuttle coach, leaving our car and driver behind, and headed for the cable car. This is a comfortable 4-seater, which skiers will be well used to. It took us to the access to the actual wall. At this point, Peter siad we were free to walk along the wall, and gave us some tips. So we just walked off! I have arthritis and use a pole, and I was able to manage a fair bit of walking, so it is very much up to the individual. As an experience it is fantastic. The views are superb, along the densely-wooded hills, bisected by the wall. Astonishing and I wouldn't have missed it. Go. And the company was great, thanks Trippest. The journey back was a bit quicker, but really, it's a full day out. I slept well that night!

My husband and I did the small group tour of the Great Wall at Mutianyu with William from China Highlights. I was so impressed with our guide and the expert logistics planning of our guide and driver. William was absolutely wonderful - very pleasant personality and knowledgeable. They picked up us at 11am. We had a lovely ride and William gave us information on the history of the wall. They chose lunch at the restaurant near the wall so we didn't have to take a shuttle bus to the start of the wall. The lunch was fabulous and I think the best meal that I had in China and it was on a very pleasant terrace. We took the cable car up and enjoyed the spectacular views walking along the wall. Also, it was not crowded at all and quite lovely to walk. It was one of the highlights of our trip to China and I would highly recommend China Highlights and William. On the ride back we talked with William and learned more about China. There was another couple on our tour and we enjoyed sharing the experience with them also. I would recommend booking this trip before you leave so you have all your details worked out before your vacation starts.

An amazing tour led by Helen Jiao who picked us up at the airport and transported us to the Great Wall. After an overnight flight having a cable car to take you to the top made the hiking easy and maximized our time enjoying the hike along the Great Wall taking photos. The lunch afterwards was superb and our guide was amazing! We were dropped off back at the airport which was a great way to spend our 16 hour layover in Beijing.

My family and I had a wonderful experience hiking Mutianyu despite the windy and rainy weather. Booking the tour was easy, and our tour guide Cactus was superb. She got in touch with us the day before to coordinate the pickup for the tour. We were picked up at our hotel on time, and the trip out to the wall was seamless. Cactus was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the city of Beijing, the Wall and Chinese history. We learned so much from her on this tour and she answered all the questions that we had. Furthermore, I thought her English was very good communicating with us making her an excellent guide for those who do not speak or understand Chinese. Even though it was very cold, windy and rainy on the Wall, Cactus was very patient with us and gave us all the time we needed to experience the Wall and take all the photos that we wanted. For that, we are very grateful. This tour is well worth the value, and it included lunch at a local restaurant (the food was delicious). I would highly recommend booking this tour if you are in Beijing and want to have a great experience at the Great Wall! I would definitely do it all over again with this company!

I traveled to Beijing alone with the goal of seeing the Wall! My big dream! Since I was alone, I decided to book the tour to Mutianyu. What an amazing choice!!! I was lucky to have CACTUS as a guide and it was all wonderful! Better than I had planned! The group was very exclusive! Just me and another traveler. Super delicious lunch and then the realization of a dream! All I have to do is thank CACTUS for the care, explanations, photos (the best photographer you could have!) and dedication! It was my best choice! I recommend this tour! Solo travelers will feel safe and protected! Thank you CACTOS for helping me realize another dream!
