We had a great experience with Susan. She was very knowledgeable, kind courteous, and brought us to every place as promised; highly recommended.

Itinerary
This Beijing one-day tour offers two travel options—both including hotel pick-up and drop-off to add extra convenience to your journey. Option 1 is the Boutique-Style Mini Group Tour, with group size limited to a maximum of 8 people. This guarantees a more intimate and comfortable experience free from overcrowding, making it perfect for travelers who enjoy sharing their trip with a small group while still getting attentive service. Option 2 is the Private Tour, which stands out for its exclusive, personalized experiences. You’ll be paired with a dedicated private guide who focuses solely on your group: they’ll provide detailed explanations, adjust the travel pace to match your interests, and answer every question you have. This tour is reserved exclusively for your party—no sharing with other travelers—allowing you to relax completely as you move between attractions. No matter which option you choose, you’ll get to explore two of Beijing’s most iconic scenic spots in a single day.
Start your memorable Beijing day by meeting your guide in your hotel lobby—at a time that fits your schedule. Step into a clean, air-conditioned vehicle. As you head out, let the passing city scenery unfold while your knowledgeable guide shares captivating historical anecdotes and vivid tales—setting the tone for a day of discovery. Your first stop is Tiananmen Square—a landmark where grandeur meets deep significance. As both a world-famous tourist site and a key political activity hub of China, we want to share two important notes in advance: First, the square may be temporarily closed by the government for official events; if this happens, we’ll drive past the area so you can still take in its exterior. Second, entry requires security check—if the queue wait time exceeds one hour, we’ll skip the square, to ensure we have plenty of time for the Forbidden City and Great Wall (the core highlights of your day). Please note Tiananmen Square is free to enter, so no refund for this part.
After Tiananmen Square (or our drive-by if adjustments are needed), we’ll head to the iconic Forbidden City. Whether you’re in a small group or private setting, you’ll enjoy a more relaxed start to exploring China’s imperial past. Once inside, you’ll notice: while the Forbidden City’s vast palaces and halls feel majestic, many buildings may look similar at first glance. That’s where your guide shines—70% of your experience here will be through their rich storytelling. They’ll lead you along the sacred Central Axis, uncovering the stories behind every key structure.
Once inside the Forbidden City, your exploration will commence with the magnificent Three Great Halls. The Hall of Supreme Harmony is the largest wooden structure in the complex and was used for grand imperial ceremonies. Here, emperors would hold important events such as coronations and celebrations. Next is the Hall of Central Harmony, a smaller hall where emperors would rest and prepare before ceremonies. The Hall of Preserving Harmony was used for imperial examinations.
Moving on to the Inner Court, you'll visit the Palace of Heavenly Purity, which was the living quarters of emperors in the Ming and early Qing dynasties. Adjacent is the Palace of Earthly Tranquility, the residence of empresses. The Hall of Union and Peace, located between these two palaces, was used for various imperial functions.
After exploring the key areas of the Forbidden City, you'll make your way to the Imperial Garden. This beautiful garden, filled with ancient trees, pavilions, and rockeries, offers a peaceful retreat within the grand palace complex. Along the way, your guide will paint vivid pictures of Ming and Qing dynasty court life—from emperors’ daily routines to concubines’ and eunuchs’ lives—making the ancient walls feel alive. Have questions? Ask anytime—your guide is here to make the history resonate, whether you’re in a small group or one-on-one. You will then exit the Forbidden City through the gate near the Imperial Garden, marking the end of this historical and cultural exploration.
After exiting the Forbidden City via its North Gate, we’ll hop back in the vehicle for a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Mutianyu Great Wall. During the ride, the history doesn’t stop—your guide will share fascinating facts about the Great Wall’s construction, its role as an ancient defense system, and the legends that make it a world wonder. Upon arrival, we’ll first enjoy a hearty, delicious lunch to refuel—perfect for recharging before exploring the Wall, whether you’re dining with a mini group or your private party.
To reach the Great Wall, you’ll have two great options to reach the top—both included in your tour fee: glide up smoothly via cable car, or take a scenic chairlift for a slower, more leisurely ascent. Your guide will explaining the functions of ancient watchtowers and crenellations. You’ll also get free time to wander: snap postcard-worthy photos of the Wall winding through lush hills, soak in the breathtaking views, and soak up the wonder of this architectural masterpiece. After the exhilarating hike, you can choose an exciting way to descend. Opt for the thrilling toboggan ride down the slope, or take the ski lift or cable car back to ground level. As the day ends, your guide and driver will ensure a safe, comfortable ride back to your hotel. No matter if you chose small group or private, you’ll leave with memories of iconic landmarks, imperial grandeur, ancient fortresses, and stories that will stay with you long after your Beijing trip.

It was a wonderful day the guide Padma was very useful, kind and well organised. I recommend without any doubt.
This tour was amazing from start to finish. Our tour guide Cassie and driver Mr Wang wenkuan were brilliant!! Cassie was so knowledgeable and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The wall was the highlight of our time in Beijing and we took Cassie’s advice and went early in the morning missing all of the crowds. Lunch was very good and The Forbidden City was definitely worth the visit. We would definitely recommend both Cassie and this tour !!!
Mina was really fun guide. Very flexible to my preferences, knowledgeable , and really recommended . We went to the China wall and the forbidden city in a private tour , the car and the day weee very well organized.
Very good tour package & in one day you it all , our tour guide Susan is very nice & very knowledgeable
Amazing! Our guide, Sherry, was so helpful and accommodating, she even extended our tour to fit everything we wanted! Not to mention she was extremely knowledgeable and kind. Our driver, Wang, was also there to pick us up within a minute every time, very cool car with gullwing doors, definitely rode in style.
Great history lesson of China. Our tour guide Jack (Tao) was extremely knowledgeable about Chinese history and architecture. Excellent lunch from a traditional Chinese restaurant. The entire day was well planned. Highly recommend.
We booked several private tours during our visit to China and this was the worst one. Do not recommend this company.
Sophie was wonderful. Very knowledgeable. The tour was perfectly timed - enough time in each place but not rushed. Our driver was great too. Recommend them anytime!
An Incredible Day in Beijing – Thanks to Linda! This private tour of the Mutianyu Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City was an unforgettable experience—and Linda, our guide, was the highlight of it all! She was fun, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful from start to finish. What really stood out was how thoughtful she was—she took tons of amazing photos of us and always knew the best spots for the perfect shot. Her passion for history made every site come alive, and she handled everything so smoothly that all we had to do was enjoy the moment. If you’re thinking about booking this tour, do it—and definitely ask for Linda. She made our trip to Beijing truly special.
This tour was amazing! Our tour guide Linda and driver Xie were great host that showed us around all the best spots! Linda also provided a lot of good historical information about the places we visited. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
I had limited time in Beijing so I selected this tour to see both the forbidden city and the great wall on the same day. Ms Sherry was my guide and Mr Li our driver. They are both very nice people and Ms Sherry is really skilled about the history of these places, furthermore she has a perfect English. She guided me through the must see places inside the forbidden city, taking me pictures every time I wanted. After that we had a lunch in a very good restaurant outside Beijing, with a wide selection of food. The experience on the great wall was amazing, she let me select the transport (skyway and sliding car) and addressed me which towers to visit. A 5 stars review is deserved and I suggest this experience to everyone who has limited time as me, to get the maximum from a single day.
It was a wonderfull day with LINDA, all was plane and perfect. We appriciate the kindness and the very good drinving of SIA or driver
Super tour with Cindy and our expert driver Wang. We were able to see all the main hotspots of Beijing. The price is justified as it is all-inclusive and a comfortable car is provided. Suggested when you have short time to visit the city!
We visited Beijing from San Diego, CA, to explore The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and The Great Wall, and Jack made our trip incredibly smooth and enjoyable. He arranged drivers to pick us up from the train station and handled all of our transportation logistics, which was a huge relief for our family of seven. Jack’s knowledge of Chinese history brought each site to life, and he made sure to take great family photos along the way. We had an amazing time and are grateful to have made a new friend in Jack. Thank you so much!
The historic nature of the sites we visited was awesome, but equally important to us was our guide’s thoughtfulness and sensitivity to my husband’s physical limitations as we proceeded on our tour. Her thoughtfulness made our tour much more enjoyable.
Amazing day!! Must do in China!! Our tour guide Lucy was so friendly and knowledgable! I would 100% recommend this tour to all friends and family
We recently completed this tour. Our guide was Edward and he was very knowledgeable and helped us navigate our way through the crowds. Our driver was excellent and he and Edward made our tour exceptional and an experience we will never forget. We found Viator fantastic to deal with. We were concerned booking from New Zealand but found the process easy and very professionally managed. We rate the tour, our guide and driver 12 stars out of 10. Margaret and Evan
We had an awesome experience and a VIP treatment. We got picked up at our hotel on a very spacious and comfortable car with water, snacks and very good A/C!!! Sophie, our tour guide was very kind and with a lot of knowledge. My wife and I visited Tiananmen Square, Forbidden city and the Great Wall. Our driver Xia was also very nice. Would definitely recommend taking this tour!
We did this trip today. Thank you so much Judy and Mr Jang for such a memorable experience. We started at Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City and then went to the Wall. Stopped for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant and managed to squeeze in some shopping. Judy told us all about the local area and was very friendly and helpful. Now home for a nap!
Excellent service! Linda is our tour guide, together with the driver Zhang =) Very detailed tour, explaining to us throughout the whole journey, about the history of the palace and Great Wall of China.
Susan Shan led an exceptional private tour, delivering a passionate exploration of China's rich history. Her insights were invaluable, and I learned a great deal during our time together. With Susan's guidance, we covered a lot in just one day, and having a dedicated driver added to the convenience. The lunch provided was fantastic, and the peanut and cabbage dumplings were really good! Susan also shared some excellent tips for navigating Shanghai. Overall, it was a memorable and enriching experience. Thanks Susan!
This tour is perfect if you have a stopover in Beijing, Sherry, our guide is very attentive and professional, she is always on the lookout and knows a lot. We enjoyed the day in Beijing
Had the best time today!! Lucy our tour guide went above and beyond so we had the most perfect day. We would 100% recommend this trip!! Thank you so much.
Sherry was amazing! We saw the Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden city while learning a lot from our tour guide. We were then taken to a great buffet lunch and then the Great Wall. Sherry was teaching us so much along the way. Highly recommend this tour!
My friends and I had an amazing time on this tour! We were well looked after by Lucy our tour guide and our driver. Lucy was highly knowledgeable and was so friendly. Highly recommend booking this tour! Thank you!
Obviously these sights are a must-see for every first-timer (like ourselves), but our very personable guide Susan made our day with her a most memorable and truly informative one. We were provided with expertly and enthusiastically conveyed insights at each of these iconic places. And even though it was a blustery day outside, Susan made every effort ensure we were as comfortable as possible. We never felt rushed or like we were on a tight schedule (even though we covered a lot of ground in one day). We shared some fun laughs with her and at the end of the day we hoped we’d have the opportunity to tour with her again during future visits to Beijing.
Climb to the top, wonderful view and overall a nice, knowledgeable and professional guide. Lucy is absolutely a great guide, accompanied by a very safe and attentive driver.
Picked up at 7:30 am, in a private and confy car, heading to the Tiananmen Square to learn the history of China and communism, then we follow to the Forbiden city, where Lucy my kind and friendly guide provided a clearly and patienly detailed overview of the dynasties of China and information about the arquitecture and design of the amazing Temples. After learning from China history, we headed to a Buffet lunch to get the energy to follow for a little souvenir shopping, taking a cable car up to the Great Wall and hike for about 2 h. Along the journey, Lucy answered all my questions and helped me to get the best photos of my whole journey, especially in the great wall. She chose strategic locations to get the best pictures! After our hike, we ended the journey with a little adventure, going down the greatwall through a slide, which is really fun! In my opinion, this tour is a great choice for those who want to visit key sites of Beijing and learn about them, but doesn't have the time to stand in the long queues!
The tour was excellent and our guide Miko was amazing. He gave us much insight into the places we visited and it was very interactive as we had fun quizes from him and the kids really learnt alot. He kept to the timings so we didn't miss anything and he was very accommodating with us. He helped us take so many pics even tho it was bitterly cold. We truly enjoyed this tour and Miko definitely made it an experience to remember.
I really enjoyed this tour - Discover Beijing Tours provided excellent service and after booking messaged me to confirm all the details. The sights were impressive and not crowded, the lunch stop really tasty and the vehicle was very comfortable. Lucy was an excellent guide who spoke perfect English, provided a fascinated commentary and shared lots of interesting information about China. I only had 36 hours in Beijing and this tour enabled me to see all the major sights, highly recommend.
Had a good and comfortable experience with our tour guide Lucy as well as driver! My family was well taken care of and there was a lot of insightful information being shared by Lucy as well!
I highly recommend Lucy as a tour guide for anyone visiting the Chinese Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, and Forbidden City. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for Chinese history and culture made the tour an unforgettable experience. The local restaurant we stopped at for lunch was amazing, and the food was delicious. Overall, it was an excellent tour with an excellent guide. Thank you, Lucy!
We were picked up by 9am on the dot by our tour guide Becky and our driver. We had the choice of where we wanted to go first and how we wanted our day to be. We chose to do the square and city first and then make our way to the wall. Our experience was amazing! Could not fault the service at all. Becky was an amazing tour guide, very helpful, friendly. Spoke English Incredibly well so we understood everything. She helped us take photos, gave us advise and made us feel very comfortable. Not to forget how great our driver was. He drove safely and managed to get us everywhere with enough time to look around. Also January is a great time to come. Everything was not busy and we could look around in peace. Would definitely recommend!!!
Jimmy guided us to the Great Wall (GW), Tian An Men Square (TAMS), and the Forbidden City (FC). We, in some masochistic way, just had to visit these places in summer. Well, we decided on a guided tour to get the best out of each attraction with as little time travelling, bumbling around and wasting of time, as possible. Indeed Jimmy from Private Day Tour, knew his stuff. He actually suggested to set off 1/2 hour earlier to beat the heat as well as the crowds. We followed his idea, turned in earlier the night before, met him at 7am. The road trip to the GW was fairly easy, and at the GW, we got onto the ski lift very quickly. We were on the wall, and walked for about 500m or so as Jimmy shared snippets of its history, construction and description. We were under no pressure to walk long distances as he allowed us to rest when we wanted, particularly at the mid-wall battlements in which the shade created a wind tunnel effect, which really helped. He next brought us to a local local Beijing noodle restaurant, complete with antique furniture and florescent lighting for our lunch. The lunch was filling and a welcome break. Beijingers eat huge bowls of everything! We next took a short ride to TAMS, which would lead to the FC. TAMS is a gigantic heat sink. No trees. No shade. Nothing to provide any protection from the harsh summer sun. Jimmy did warn us to bring our sunnies, hats and insisted on hand carrying large bottles of water. Again Jimmy was full of information about the well known site and the buildings surrounding it. To us the highlight was the FC. Jimmy tied in the tour with frequent references to Bertolucci's The Last Emperor which made the visit more personal and meaningful as we recognised many of the structures and rooms, which were used in the filming. Of course there was a significance because each location had a purpose to it, eg, the Throne Room in which the Empress Dowager met Puyi for the first time, the various terraces where the young boy Emperor played, and the private quarters of the Empress Dowager. The FC is huge, and the large open spaces, again, treeless. Again, Jimmy did not push us beyond what we could bear in terms of pace. We rested when we needed, for as long as we needed. There was never a dull moment with Jimmy. We had no regrets booking the tour and Jimmy made the trip worth while. He understood and made adjustments to our needs, in particular, in the heat of summer, and we can honestly say that our day was very well spent.Re
Anson provided a great day of structure and was very knowledgeable about each location. He did a great job of explaining the history mixed in with enough free time to explore. 5/5 would recommend!!
Anson was super insightful and gave a lot of history on The Great Wall and China. He also knew so many interesting facts about Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. He made the entire day very enjoyable.
The tour of the great wall, tiananmen square and the forbidden city wouldn’t have been as great as it was if we hadn’t had Anson as our tour guide! He was very knowledgeable about chinese history and my friends and i learned a lot from him. He was able to watch over the group and went above and beyond to make sure everyone’s needs were met. Overall, the experience was amazing :)
The day was scheduled well and our guide Anson gave us enough time to rest and play! Loved the walk Anson suggested, and also the food he prepared/ordered for us for lunch. He made sure that all the allergies and personal dietary options were met. We arrived at the Square a little late, but was awesome because there were less people. Ultimately, it was a great tour and I enjoyed hearing the stories from history.
I with my friend visited Beijing on transit and booked tour which covered Mutianyu Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, and Forbidden City. Lucy made our tour so easy and relaxing. She very well gave us information about each place's history and its importance. Lucy got thorough knowledge about tour and her communication skill is excellent. This tour is highly recommended if visiting Beijing.
As I only had two days in Beijing, I booked this tour in the UK via the Amex travel service. This was to give me some sort of assurance that I would have a reasonable tour experience especially as it was my first visit to Beijing. I was not disappointed in anyway and from the formal confirmation the tour company night before when I checked in to the hotel to the professional and on time pick up in the morning from the Hotel Foyer everything had been organised professionally. The itinerary of the sites to be visited were the ones that come to most peoples minds and certainly on my list i.e. The Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Tiannamen Square. This tour covered them all but at a pace that was dictated by you, in a comfortable air conditioned vehicle with an extremely knowledgeable, personal and professional guide. All admission tickets etc were paid for and the tour organised for when it was less busy and crowded at certain sites such as the Great Wall and a very tasty lunch at a very good restaurant. Lucy as the guide was brilliant, extremely knowledgeable, able to take any question but bring history and politics easily up to date. She has an excellent command of English, a very polite and courteous manner and a good sense of humor. If you have limited time in Beijing and really want to see the main sites in a comfortable vehicle with your own driver and extremely knowledgeable and courteous tour guide then I would definitely recommend this tour package and if possible ask for Lucy to be your guide.
We had one day in Beijing and this tour made the most of that time. Anson, our tour guide was very friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and spoke excellent English. We visited on a national holiday during which the crowds would be much heavier than normal and our guide was conscientious enough to reach out to see if we would be willing to start earlier in the day to get ahead of the crowds and traffic. The Wall was amazing, the information and history provided was invaluable, and he gave us shopping advice as well. The lunch was at a local restaurant on the way back to Beijing and was FANTASTIC! He called ahead and ordered dishes with a little less spice according to our tastes. The tour of Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City is something that you should not miss. Our guide and driver made this a full and rewarding day.
I write this review while I am in the taxi to the airport, still with a big smile on my face. I do a lot of tours, basically all over the planet, but never go through the hassle of writing a review.... except today: I had such a great day, really well organized and professionally executed by Juliet, my guide. Everything was so smooth and nicely prepared. She is fluent in English and knows a lot about a lot, understands how people with other cultural backgrounds might see things from a different perspective, which made our conversations pretty enjoyable and the learning experience very efficient. Oh and she knows where to get great coffee!
I highly recommend Lucy as your tour guide! She is incredibly knowledgeable on Chinese history, politics and economics. With topics ranging from Qing dynasty customs to current Chinese economic policies to daily life in the hutongs, Lucy was able to respond thoughtfully to all of our questions. Lucy's sweet and easygoing personality made her easy to connect with and she was the best guide we've ever had!
It was a fantastic tour. I loved Beijing and the all places we visited. Lucy, our guide tour, was fantastic. She was very kind and I enjoined all explanations about the historical places . She also gave good tips about what to do in the night (kung fu show, restaurants…). Excellent day, I recommend to take the tour.
What a fantastic day! Not only were the sites amazing, but Linda (our wonderful tour guide) really made the day! Her deep knowledge of Chinese history and the details of each of the places we visited - along with her patience and incredibly friendly personality - really brought the tour to life. While the sights are well known, Linda’s ability to explain the background and paint the picture of what they were like in everyday life truly made the difference between a good day and a great day! We highly recommend Linda and the tour - it was a day we thoroughly enjoyed and will remember for a long time!

Sally was our tour guide and she did an excellent job. Vegetarian like us she was able to order a feast of dishes for us to try and some special tea she brought from her home town. While lines were long, she chatted with us and never rushed us. The vehicle provided was pristine and our driver great

Jimmy from Discover Beijing Tours picked us up from our hotel promptly today for a private tour of the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. He was very charismatic and adapted the schedule to our likes and dislikes. We went to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall first. It was not very crowded and we got right in. We took the ski lift up and the toboggan down. I was a little nervous about the toboggan but Jimmy stayed behind me and all went well. I actually liked it! Afterwards, Jimmy took us for a lunch that turned out to be one of the best meals we had yet. He called our order in before we got to the restaurant and it was served to us within 5 minutes of our arrival. The driver was very nice as well and he joined us for lunch. After, we went to Tiananmen for a quick tour, then spent 2 hours in the Forbidden City. We enjoyed our day with Jimmy and would highly recommend Discover Beijing Tours. They do have some problems with their website but if you email the owner she emails back within a few hours.

GREAT !!! Our tour guide Albert was friendly and informative. Pickup was on time and lunch was at a good restaurant. Time allowed for seeing the wall and Forbidden city was enough. Tiananmen square were closed due to parliament sitting but it was still good to see from across the street.

We had a very pleasant driver and a kind guide who gave us lots of information about the city and the sights. We toured Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City as well as the Great Wall. We would recommend this enjoyable tour to everyone. We were able to take our time, learn about the history and current events in Beijing along with lunch at a local restaurant.
