Beijing Hutongs Walking Tour

Roy was excellent very informative and entertaining

This was the second time we toured with Roy, and it was excellent as always. We visited the Jinshanling Great Wall (not listed under Roy's tours at the time of this review). On our way there, Roy explained the history of Beijing. Once we arrived in Jinshanling, Roy showed us the breathtaking scenery the Great Wall has to offer and took many photos of us. It was a whole-day tour due to the distance from Beijing to Chengde; however, Roy took great care of us, and we felt great after the tour. It also helped that Jinshanling is the least crowded section of the Great Wall. He was knowledgeable, patient, humorous, and a great communicator. We will certainly book his tour next time we return to Beijing. Please consider Roy if you are looking for an unforgettable experience with a small group.

We had a great time on this hutong walking tour with Roy and would definitely recommend it. Roy is a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and clearly passionate about Beijing. He shared a lot of interesting context and stories that really helped us understand how people actually live in the hutongs. Roy is an excellent guide and we had a great introduction to Beijing and the Hu Tong area, history and culture. He's enthusiastic and fun and made everything interesting. We had so many questions which he was happy to answer, he explained some of the street food, and gave us a list of other places to visit. We enjoyed it so much that we booked his tour of the Forbidden City a few days later.

I had a very informative and personable tour this morning with Roy who was open to answering any questions that came to mind, and made me feel welcome and more knowledgeable about the city and the country as a whole. I would reccommend him to anyone wanting a starting point for Beijing or Chinese culture.

I did several of the free walking tours with Roy in Beijing. He was very informative, easy to understand, patient and delivered his stories with humor…all in perfect English. I highly recommend him for one or several of his tours. I did the Beijing night tour, Summer palace, and the Hutong tour.

Our guide was perfect. His name is Roy Lee, he was interesting, kind and he made everything exciting. He made a lot of quiz for us and everything was clear in his explanation. The tour was beautiful and he has showed us the real life in Hutongs and the typical places and things of the area. Our guide showed us particular monuments and places, like the Hutongs habits (non-touristy things). The lake near the Hutongs was beautiful and our guide showed us many typical restaurants. We loved this tour because everything was amazing and our guide made every monument interesting and memorable.

We booked this for our first full day in Beijing. The tour guide did not show up and despite multiple attempts to contact him, we did not hear back. We waited for about 25 minutes before going off on our own/. Very dusappointing.

Roy is a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. During our walk through the hutons I got to know a lot about Beijing and the Chinese culture and history. Roy makes his tour very interactive and I felt free to ask everything I wanted to know. His english is fluent and clear. I felt very inspired after the tour and would definately recommend doing this when in Beijing!

It was an amazing tour exploring the authentic part of Beijing. A mix of history, local traditions, and ways of living in the Hutongs. The guide speaks a great english and is able to give simple but complete, compelling explanations!!! Moreover, lots of suggestions on great place where to eat, do shopping etc. So far, the most interesting and complete tour we have done in Beijing. Highly suggested.

The tour with Roy was great, filled with a lot of good and interesting information about the hutongs and Imperial times of China. He also shared many facts about China not exactly related to the tour and about his life as a Chinese national, which I loved to know.

The background given was a perfect mix of history and fun facts. I decided to also do the summer palace tour with Roy the same day and that was equally as great. Roy Li is friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the tour of the imperial city and hutongs a lot and the stories were interesting, funny and full of anecdotes. Would def recommend this tour as it offers a great mix of history and information about today's life in China.

Amazing tour! We wanted to start our trip with a guided tour that would give us insights into peoples lives in Beijing now and in the past. This tour did just that! The guide was very well prepared and engaged us in the story by quizing us and had great english. He was happy to answer all the questions we had. We learned a lot about hutongs and would definatley recomend to do this tour on the beginibb of your trip to Beijing.

This was the third tour that I did with Roy. I thought that by the third tour, I would've more or less heard similar historical facts from the first two tours I did with Roy, but I was so wrong. Not only did Roy share eye-opening historical facts with my tour mates and me, but he ensured that I was learning new information and even tying back facts shared in our previous tours. During our tour, Roy introduced us to various restaurants for us to try and was so helpful in sending us a list of additional things to do, eat, and see after the tour. I honestly enjoyed my time with Roy. I plan to return to Beijing and book more tours with Roy. Thank you for such a fantastic experience Roy!
