The admission is free, but we attempted many times to book it. The site would not accept the country of origin, finally gave up. The only option was booking an English guide for approximately 50 gbp per person. My hotel gave me the wrong directions, we were early. Ended at the museum at the appointed time only to realize a few thousand have the same appointment. Took almost an hour to get in. The guide kindly waited, we were the last. We could not move in the Ancient China section. We were being pushed, squeezed in all directions. It was as bad as the terracotta army, Xian.l

The collection of the National Museum of China is extremely large, with over 1.4 million pieces (sets) covering various historical periods from ancient to contemporary times. The National Museum of China is not only a building or a place for collecting cultural relics, but also: ·A three-dimensional general history of China: silently telling the vicissitudes and glory of China for five thousand years through physical objects. ·The cultural living room of a country: showcasing the profoundness, openness, and inclusiveness of Chinese civilization to the world. ·A spiritual home for a nation: carrying the cultural confidence and historical identity of the Chinese people. Whether you have a strong interest in Chinese history or just want to experience the charm of Chinese culture, the National Museum of China is definitely a must visit place worth spending time immersed in.

Huge place with interesting displays. However, 70% don't have English descriptions so a little hard to understand what they actually are.
The museum itself was great but when we tried to enter my wife’s passport didn’t match the ticket number. Her info was correct in Viator so the person who booked the ticket for us using this service made a terrible mistake. Luckily the national museum guard fixed it for us at the entrance. Maybe look for a different service that will be more careful entering the most important number….
Very easy to buy the tickets, and got the qr code immediately. It is very convenient to get there with the tickets already, and not have to line up for tickets.
Far to busy at a weekend to fully explore the museum, but the artifacts are fascinating
The entrance tickets are free for the public, but we paid in order to see the museum on the date of our chosen. No one helped us at all. The experience was terrible.
Very easy and convenient to purchase museum tickets through this company. We were very pleased with the whole experience—the process was smooth, straightforward, and reliable. Highly recommended!
A magnificent museum, covering a wide span of Chinese history and culture. We spent about 4.5 hours there and managed to see about 2/3rds of the exhibitions. Bring your phone with the translation app, many of the exhibits have Chinese-only descriptions.
The museum stated that they could not allow entrance based on the ticket I received from this tour operator. The ticket was supposed to match my passport number and the ticket was no where close to matching my passport number and further the staff stated that they couldn’t accept it anyways because half of the numbers were blurred out. This is China with tons of security that can be hours that you have to go through before even getting to the long line with the ticket admission. A complete waste of time.
The experience of visiting the National Museum of China was marvelous, worth every minute in there. The space is huge and it takes many hours to visit.
Very simply...the Museum is a must see for everyone who loves China. And the Company...helpful and correct, great!
Have tried other vendors in the past who advertised availability but failed to come through. This vendor had tickets available and communicated quickly and was very responsive to a follow up question.
An incredible museum - by far the biggest and most impressive I’ve ever seen probably including London. Most importantly, it’s very difficult to get your own tickets for this museum so let Viator do it for you.
Tickets hard to get for this museum but Viator got them no problem. Wonderful exhibits . Over 1 million. Concentrated on the basement for Chinese history. Well displayed, some English labels. Museum open and airy. Used disabled toilets as i can't use squat ones but i think western ones were available. Very busy but so vast so, not crowded. As always take passport. Entry to Tianemen square included in ticket. Lifts and escalators available as well as steps. No cafe open during our morning visit, drinks and snacks from a vending machine. Many people seemed to take their own. Good gift shops. Plenty of seating for tired legs. Well worth a visit.
Subway line 1 to get there. Huge lines to clear security just after subway ticket validation gate and also entering museum. Allocate at least 1 hour before entry time limit or you may not get in. eg 11am ticket means deadline to enter museum is 11am but you may enter fr 9 to 11am. Wearing a mask (with a few drops of peppermint oil?) may be more comfortable for toilet visits and viewing exhibits with endless crowds. I did not use English audio guide available at entry as helper says info is for 30 major pieces only. There will be a long queue inside 1 of the exhibit halls on top level to view the coronet of 1 of the empress. Overall one must remember these are leftovers of great historical pieces not looted, or stolen by centuries of foreign invasion, poverty, dishonesty etc. Or not destroyed during the cultural revolution. Exhibits were mainly stones, copper, bronze left behind by Chiang Kai Shek fleeing to Taiwan who btw took the most valuable and "worthwhile" treasures.
Entry to the museum went smoothly and the museum itself was really interesting. We bought the audio tour which was packed full of info about Ancient China. Entry from the museum to Tiananmen Square was really easy.
Great museum in this monumental buiilding. Thanks to Viator it could visit it, otherwise it seems impossible to get a ticket. For me, it was one if the highlights of all the very interesting things you can do in Beijing
Family of five visited. Tony picked up that I duplicated the passport numbers and informed us. Very lucky he did as there would be a problem for one of the kids entering. Five stars for attention to detail.
Sehr eindrucksvolles Museum, aber auch sehr voll
Perfect and reliable. Good information in advance with the necessary useful details.
If you go to a museum in China, the National Museum of China is the most fascinating facility. It's impossible to book tickets for foreigners on the official website, but if you request it through Viator, you can get them, so I recommend it. The exhibition of ancient China is the highlight, but it will take about three hours, so I think you should allow plenty of time. Depending on personal preference, among ancient China, the exhibits from the Yin, Zhou, Spring and Autumn and Warring States, Han, and Tang dynasties have many highlights. Please use this as a reference for time allocation.
Easy and efficient, explanations on the reservation clear and precise
This is a very effective way to book entry to the National Museum of China at the last minute. Excellent communication with the agency that organizes the tour.
Entrance to the National Museum of China is free. So, theoretically, the service of an agency would not be necessary. But it's pretty hard to get a last minute entry. Maybe impossible. I was in Beijing and decided to visit the Museum from day to day and this option from Viator was perfect! I have used the service of this agency many times and I trust it very much. I am very grateful for the existence of this Viator package. Without it I would not have visited this wonderful museum!
A monumental museum about Chinese art and culture. From the Paleolithic period, through ancient China to Chinese Socialist Realism, you can see the treasures in bronze, ceramics, porcelain, enamel, painting, jade... A great panorama that helps to understand the history and high Chinese art. It is possible to rent an audio guide in English for the part of ancient China and there are exhibitions with texts in English. The entrance to the museum is free but I couldn't get the ticket through the museum's website, so I did it by Viator for a fairly affordable price. It is essential to carry a passport!
Excellent guide. A must see visit when in Beijing.
Ticket reservations are procedurally difficult for foreigners, and even for Chinese people, it seems difficult to book at popular spots. It was a bit later than the time you wanted, but I am glad you managed to secure a ticket and used this service.
