Itinerary
Meet your guide in the lobby of your central Beijing hotel at around 12 pm, and get in your personal comfortable and air-conditioned car. Begin the 75-kilometer or 1.5-hour drive to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. As one of the most famous and best-preserved sections of the UNESCO-listed wall, Mutianyu is surrounded by lush greenery, offering beautiful views as it snakes across the hills and mountains. Arrive at Mutianyu at about 1:30 pm to begin your journey. Tour guide will accompany you to the middle section, give instructions as to where to go and when to get back, and let you choose to hike by yourself. The round-trip hike is about 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) and will take approximately 3 hours. If you prefer not to hike for this period of time, you may use the cable car (included) to travel up and down the mountain. The hike will finish around 4:30 pm. After the tour, return to Beijing.

Thank you to our wonderful guide Cactus!! She communicated with our group in a professional and timely manner the day before our tour. We were in a small group of six people in a comfortable van. Cactus gave us historical background on the wall as well as the Forbidden City when she found out we would visit the next day. Our visit to Mutianyu gave us lots of time on the wall and Cactus was a really great photographer for us. We took the cable car up and down which proved to be the best option for my aunt who’s afraid of heights. Our lunch was served right when we got to the restaurant and was a delicious mix of veggie and meat dishes. Overall we had a very memorable day. Highly recommended!
Our tour guides was inexperienced and lacked a lot of knowledge about the tour. There was constant confusion and chaos. The tour group put three groups going to separate destinations together, then separated us - which was hectic. On the way back, some people were dropped off at the subway, or by the bus, and the group got us a taxi after we asked how we would be dropped off. Do not go on this tour.
Long Ling (Linda) made this a wonderful day for us. She is extra knowledgeable, kind and made sure everything was taken care of for us. It was like traveling with a friend! We had no worries and everything went as planned/promised. We were picked up on time at the hotel (Ling Ling made sure the night before we knew where and when to meet), had a comfortable van with 4 other guests, water, delicious lunch (much more than expected) and the options to make our Wall visit what we wanted - some wanted to cable car, others chair lift, etc. Highly recommend! Five stars.
We had an amazing time visiting the great wall with our guide William. A rather enjoyable ride to the great wall as William gave us a lot of information about the history of China & the great wall; then we fuelled up with a fantastic lunch at a great restaurant a short distance from the wall; and then the wall itself! We had the perfect amount of time with William to teach us the most important things and then we set off for 2 hours of free time. The toboggan down was also a highlight though it would have been equally as magical getting the chairlift back down. A really fun day!
Awesome hike! we loved every bit of it. our guide Bob was fantastic. he let us go at our own pace so that we could take lots of photos of the awesome view. He was also enthusiastic and seemed to love his job which put an upbeat feel into the group. It was great to see both the untouched part of the wall and repaired section of the wall. it gave us true sense of how it was built and the extremities they must have endured to build it. Definitely would recommend this tour!
6 of us booked this Mini Tour for a Tour in Beijing, including Forbidden City and then on to Mutianyu Great Wall. Picked up at our hotel by our guide Yuan (Cactus) who was fantastic. Great English and a deep knowledge of the history of China. She kept in contact before tour to ensure everything was to plan. What a fantastic day, we loved every minute of it. Started at Tiananmen Square then through the Forbidden City. Then we had a fabulous lunch, strictly local cuisine and 3 of us needed Gluten Free and was organised with minimum of fuss. Yum it was! Then on to the Great Wall. Went up on Chairlift and what an amazing view. Breathtaking! And to finish off we had a toboggan ride down the hill. Thankyou Cactus, you made our day memorable. Interesting and great insight to Beijing and Great Wall and it's history. Highly recommended! We hope to come back again.
My friend and I booked the Great Wall tour and had a wonderful day with our guide Jerry. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions and made sure we were having a good time. It was a WONDERFUL day and the tour couldn’t have been better! Highly recommend. Thanks Jerry!
We loved this tour so much! Our guide- Jerry was amazing! He called our hotel the night before the tour to confirm pick up time and was waiting in the lobby for us in the morning! We got to see many highlights of Beijing without the hassle of getting around on our own or waiting in any lines. Lunch was amazing and our guide ordered it all for us. The Great Wall was the highlight of the trip! Highly recommend this tour!!!
This tour was amazing ! The guide (KINGKONG) picked us up right on time, had an outstanding knowledge of Chinese History and its relation to the Great Wall, and was extremely helpful in every aspect. We felt very comfortable to ask questions (Kingkong's english was great). Besides being an excellent guide, KingKong is an amazing human being. Alway with a good sense of humour and helpful. When I got back to my hotel, I noticed I forgot my cell phone in the car! In nowadays, everybody knows how desperate we become without our phones. Thirty minutes later Kingkong brought it back! I strongy recommend this tour and this guide.
The great Wall was far the best spot I saw in my 20 days trip in China. I did the tour with China Highlights. It was amazing! I want to congratulate and give my true complements to the tour guide - King Kong!!!!!!! He knows the history, always fun, helpful! And took us to a very good restaurant ! I did 3 tours with China Highlights in my trip. King Kong was the best guide by far, no doubt. I recommend China highlights!
Tour guide was a bit scattered on the day, full bus, the wall was fantastic part of my bucket list done, the lunch was brilliant would recommend the trip
Had a great time. We had the wall to ourselves. Almost no one there except our tour group. King Kong was a great tour guide. Highly recommended.
We had a full day tour starting at the farthest end of the Great Wall and walking 5 km on the wall, then down to have lunch at a nice local restaurant. Bob Chen, our guide for the day, was very helpful and helped educate us about the history of the Wall, the area and any questions we had about Chinese culture. Starting early in the morning is definitely advisable when visiting because later the crowds grow quickly. Bob helped us find the best places to get outstanding pictures of the wall and was very engaged and energetic for the whole day so we had a lot of fun. Our group was 6 people which seemed to be just the right size so you can decide your own pace but not lose sight of the other people in your group. The lunch afterwards was a real banquet and we got to try a wide variety of local cuisine. I always enjoy trying new food and after a few hours on the tour it's nice to stop for lunch, ask more questions and scan the pictures taken on the walk. The food is more than I could ever finish and the restaurant staff want to make sure you don't leave hungry.
Smile was a wonderful tour guide. Very knowledgeable and, well, smiley! We enjoyed every minute of our trip to the Great Wall - and were blessed with gorgeous weather!! Blue skies and views across to the nearby mountains. Our trip was just after the week-long National Day holiday, so there were very few people at the site, which was an added bonus! The arrangements for the day were very well organised and clear. I was not impressed by the lunch as the quality of the food was not so good, but we had taken some snacks and ate those when we got to the highest point of the walk. All in all a great day out!
During Golden Week, one of the busiest times of the year at tourist sites, our excellent guide Cactus was a true gem. The throngs of locals out to celebrate China's National Day were no match for our intrepid guide, who ferried our small group through the masses with fearless bravado and boundless enthusiasm. Her English was excellent, matched only by her tireless good cheer. We breezed through the Forbidden City and other sites in Beijing before having a delicious lunch and hitting the wall. The Great Wall, that is. The crowds made for a long day, but Cactus made it all worthwhile. As the great fictional Brit Nigel Tufnel might say, we hit the volume at 11 on a scale of 10!
We enjoyed a lot our Great Wall experience at Mutianyu. The guide called the day before to arrange the pick-up time and schedule the tour program. Looking at the price I was expecting a poor quality lunch, on the contrary It was very good and abudant (but drinks are not included!). I sincerly recomand you to book with this company your tour at the Great Wall.

This was our first trip to China. Clair was a great tour guide. I ran into an issue on the original day I booked but I called the tour company directly and they were so nice to change the date for me. The ride from Beijing is a little long but Clair keeps you entertained with stories and the bus is nice, clean and comfortable. The only drawback is if you do want to shop a little they do no shop at the shopping area down the road. There are however a couple of shops at the wall if you want an I hiked the great wall shirt or something. I recommend the shop at the top of the lift.

This advert is a lie. You will not be joining a guided hike and you will not be 'accompanied by your guide, the round trip hike is about 3.7 miles and takes approximately 3 hours'. You will get a van to the wall and an entry ticket then be told to get the chair lift as it takes too long to walk. At the wall the guide left and told us to be back at the restaurant for 12:10 for lunch. Very poor and misleading. The wall is great, just go with someone else.
Our trip to the Great Wall was memorable for all the right reasons. Our tour guide Steven was extremely friendly and helpful. He kept the whole bus entertained on the way to and from the wall. The wall itself was amazing. Steven informed us of all our options such as taking a lift to the wall or walking and also which direction to walk along the wall depending on our needs. We managed to take some amazing photographs on the wall then topped it all off by riding a toboggan down. Before we returned to Beijing we had our inclusive lunch of traditional Chinese cuisine. All in all it is a must do trip for anyone visiting the Beijing area.
I am so happy to have chosen China Highlights to help me organize a very quick trip as we passed through Beijing. The planning and organizing was done by Lily at the China Highlights office. She was fantastic and extraordinary helpful. Do not hesitate contacting her to help you with your tour planning. Our guide William was a super energetic, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and fun guide. William and the van driver (Ms Wong) were there from the moment of arrival until our departure making sure anything and everything we wanted to do was taken care of for us. In our brief layover we managed to hit all the mandatory Beijing highlights. (Great Wall, T Sq, Forbidden City, Acrobatic Show) Plus we had a fabulous dinner at Da Dong to experience the awesome Roast Peking Duck. William came into the restaurant to ensure there was no language barrier and helped us order. Thanks William! So if you find yourself in Beijing do not hesitate contacting Lily for assistance in planning and make sure to ask for William and Ms. Wong as your guide and driver. We can't say enough good things about any of them or their organization. Well done!!
The number one site for me. We enjoyed blue skies and few other visitors with our excellent guide, Nancy, from China Highlights. I am now 60 years old and this site held all of the magic I had felt since first learning of the wall as a young school boy and superb views from the wall!
It was fantastic, our guide Peter really went above and beyond. The food at the restaurant he took us to afterwards was also sensational.
I have had a couple of experiences with China Highlights. One was in purchasing a train ticket from Beijing to Shanghai. It was easy quick and the staff responded quickly to questions. The second was the Half Day tour to the Great Wall. Again, it was very easy to book, even just a couple of days in advance. The tour information was very comprehensive. I loved that the tour group was small. Mr. Bill was a great tour guide - very friendly and knowledgeable. Even the lunch after seeing the wall was fantastic. Would definitely recommend.
I spent the day with William and 5 other people, it was amazing. We had a nice drive, a great lunch, and an incredible time at the great wall. William is full of energy, looking fresh in his Dwayne Wade kicks. He's very knowledgeable and made the experience great. I definitely recommend booking your great wall tour with William!
WE had an excellent tour guide from CHina Highlights- William Zhang! we visited Tiananmen sqaure, Forbidden city, Jing shU Park, summer palace and travelled to Mutainyu Great wall with William. He was awesome and fantastic, not just in his in depth knowledge of every detail; but also being so friendly, so respectful,, and personal. we all felt we had acuired a new friend in wiliiam; ech morning he would come up to each one of us in the tour and say Hi or Good Morning personally! He went out of the way to help those in need of help to walk or climb ; He suggested The Acrobatic show which was truly amazing; he took a lot of group photos with our cameras and also with his , and he emailed us the pics on his phone immediately. We have traveled the world before and been with many tour guides, but none like William! He had a good command of the English language so he could joke with us.. He also suggested a fabulous vegetarian place for lunch, since many in our group were vegetarians. Lo and Behold we were to meet another excellent guide in LeLe later!

Pretty straight, no mandatory shopping and stuff. Would have wished a little bit more time on the wall though.

The tour guide did arrive on time as expected. The tour guide Chan was good but seemed to be catering more to the 5 chinese tourists who i believe paid SIGNIFICANTLY less on our tour they received their wall tickets first and was not giving us a clear explanation of what was happening at the ticket booth In general that was my only complaint, when we got to the ticket booth it was chaos, he did not explain what we needed to do, where and what we needed to buy the gondola ticket etc I also felt that he was not honest about how long it takes to climb to the wall and how long it takes to get from tower to tower, it seemed like he was pushing us to purchase the return ticket for the gondola. Needless to say the wall was awesome and thus it overcame all these issues with the tour guide. The tour was as described and I would do it again. It's actually quite economical compared to other tours available. You also get to meet other English speaking tourists on the bus and at lunch which is the second best part of doing the tour thing.

I had an amazing time at the Great Wall -- it was snowing and an unbelievable experience. The low rating is instead focused on the value I got from this particular tour:

Here is what you should know:
--You will pay 20 more than anyone else on this tour if you book via TripAdvisor
--You will be on a bus of about 40 people and spend close to 2 hours driving around Beijing picking others up
--The Tour Consists of the following: transportation to and from the Great Wall and lunch but be prepared to pay extra for anything to drink such as water, tea, etc
--You are on your own at the Great Wall -- tour guide doesn't actually go on the wall with you to add any additional information to what you are seeing.
--Based on the above, I would just look at whatever is the cheapest option to get to/from the Great Wall. Getting a tour didn't provide anything extra and don't overpay by booking through TripAdvisor.

This tour was wonderful!

The tour organizer contacted me at my hotel the night before the tour, as promised. She told me to meet them in the lobby at 7:30am the next day. My tour guide, Fa, was there right on time. We traveled in a 20-passenger van to the wall. There were probably 15 tourists all together. Each tourist was picked up from his or her respective hotel between 7-8am.

Fa was so sweet and informative. She did speak English, though she had a heavy accent. She repeated herself many times to ensure that we understood her. I didn't have issues understanding her instructions. She told us about the history of the Great Wall and offered travel tips for Beijing as well.

Upon arrival, she pointed out the restaurant at the foot of the mountain where we would meet for lunch. She also showed us a map of the wall, recommended a hiking route, and asked us to meet back in 3 hours. We were then released to explore the wall on our own.

We met back at the restaurant at lunch time and enjoyed a family-style lunch of traditional Chinese cuisine. This was my favorite part of the trip because, as a solo traveler, I loved meeting other tourists who had come from all over the world, chatting and sharing our travel stories. The food was delicious and the restaurant was cute and clean.

We piled back into the van after lunch and the driver took us back to Beijing where they dropped us off individually at each of our hotels. On the way back, Fa gave us more tips for exploring Beijing and even sang us an ancient Chinese poem! She offered us her cell number and said that if we needed anything, we could call her for assistance.

I would definitely recommend this tour to solo travelers or groups. It was a safe, easy, and enjoyable way to experience the Great Wall.

We had a great time on this tour. The guide was great and very knowledgeable. Everything was top notch -- including the lunch!!

Too short time to walk on the wall, but we had a nice lunch included.

Tour guide rang the night before with our pick up time for the next day. James was lovely funny and polite. Bus was clean and Air conditioned. Lunch was ok.

All I wanted out of this tour was to see the Great Wall. Therefore, I didn't really care that it wasn't exactly as advertised. My booking confirmation said 6 - 7 people in the tour with included snacks and water on the wall. There were no snacks/water on the wall and it was an entire coach bus.

There was no guide, no water provided which in Bejing all tours provide because you can't drink the water.tour leader paid admission suggested everyone take the gondola and where to meet and time to meet. There was no supervision . Lunch was ok but we were on our own

Excellent guide Cactus. A very personalized and professional Service. Very knowledgeable of the area and always willing to explain in the kindest way and provide several options to choose from. Plus Cactus has a very good deal. It gives tourists their space to enjoy each leg of the tour. Highly recommended.
A very good tour, great Service. The accompaniment by Susie was very good, informative, good English - highly recommended tour! I would love to come back:-)
A fantastic day at the Great Wall of China, super organized ! The night before I was called by my guide "Kingkong" at the hotel to clarify the departure. On time, the guide stood with his driver at the hotel. In a small group of 5 participants we drove out of Beijing towards Mutianyu. The guide spoke very good English and provided us with a lot of information. We went up to the wall with the chairlift, a good 2 hours we went along the wall. Wonderful view in blue skies. It couldn't be better. Very many steps, you should be a little fit. We went down on the summer toboggan run. Afterwards we went to a nearby restaurant where we were expected as a group. Very delicious and pleasant. Would recommend this tour to anyone !!!! 5 stars especially for Kingkong. Best regards Basti
My friends and I had a good time with Peter the Guide and a great experience on the wall. Would recommend this tour to anyone. It is very early but perfect for those who want to have it a bit quieter.

Fantástico presenciar uma construção desse porte, foi incrível passear pelos degraus e observar a natureza estonteante do entorno. Mas o melhor de tudo foi descer no tobogã, experiência única!
