Sheraton Yantai Golden Beach Resort

I stayed here for 5 nights. The place is and service is superb. Buffet for breakfast and dinner is simply amazing. I don’t have any issues except for the location. It is quite far from downtown. During winter, they close the doors that can have access to the beach. If I have the chance to visit Yantai again, I will definitely stay in this hotel. 👍

worst Sheraton I've stayed in.Both the lobby bar and Club bar are closed indefinitely..so nowhere to get a coffee and nowhere to drink outside the crowded restaurant. Armchair and carpet in the room are grimy like they've not been steamed in 10 years. Swimming pool is crowded and dirty, nothing like the photos. If I'd known the lounge and bar were closed I'd have never booked..they say because of Covid19 but the all you can eat buffet is open with all those hands touching the food. Breakfast is decent but closed by 10 so not for a lazy sleep in holiday.

Where to start.... the hotel promised so much. If you’re not Chinese, the only reason to be in Yantai is a business trip, I’m telling you this because my comment is based on the general experience as a foreign. Nowhere in the world had so much hard time to communicate, although English is not my mother language I can do it pretty decently. But it seems like only one person at the desk could speak English. I wanted to do an early check in and nobody could get what I meant. Food in breakfast is pretty good, it has some mixture of occidental and oriental cuisine, so if you can’t handle Yantai’s food (mostly Sud-Korean and Chinese) the buffet surly will help. There are three restaurants in the building, Chinese, Japanese, and the main dining. Chinese is terrible, compare with the food in the city, I think is disappointing. The Japanese is very good and the raw food is clean. The main room is just Ok. The biggest disappointment for me is the bar, the service is so gentle and the ladies are always giving you an smile, but not a word of English is spoken. The first day I asked for a Mojito (which is a regular cocktail and is listed in their menu), the ladies had no clue of what was it, they looked in the web but nothing. I simply went for Macallan 15, and again they had no clue, I had to point at the menu and after some calls they came to me with the drink (over 15 min for whisky with ice), and not after they brought the bottle complete, because the thought I wanted all of it (surely yes, but was here just for chilling not going to hard). At last, the room. Is a big room and quite comfortable, but is already too old and it should have some better maintenance. Air conditioning is barely working and the only 10 for me was the bed. I’m being so hard on the hotel, but is a Sheraton after all.

Air conditioning in room was just not working. Room never cooled down below 75 degrees F, even after calling maintenance to fix the unit. I had to open the window and run air conditioner to make the room somewhat comfortable. Elevators work using room keys, but the card readers in the elevators frequently did not work, making it frustrating to get to my room. Hotel laundry is expensive and items came back wrinkled and still smelling of sweat (not cleaned at all?). MIldew smell when turning on water in bathroom and outside of the door to my room. Furniture is nice, but worn and dated. Carpet was not clean. Okay for short stays, but not recommended for long business travel.
