One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at! Everything about my experience at InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun was exceptional. The hotel was extremely clean, beautiful, and comfortable, but what truly made my stay special was the staff. Everyone was incredibly kind, respectful, professional, and always willing to help. Their hospitality and attention to detail made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. This was my first visit to China, coming all the way from Saudi Arabia, and I honestly could not have chosen a better hotel for my first experience in Beijing. I have absolutely no regrets about staying here. The wonderful hospitality I experienced made me appreciate China and its people even more. A huge thank you to the entire team for making our stay so memorable. I would happily stay here again on my next visit to Beijing and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city. ❤️🇨🇳

We moved to the Intercontinental in Sanlitun from a hotel that was clearly a mistake on the part of the tour agency. The Intercontinental is perfectly located, lit up and very lively. The rooms are absolutely stunning and the service is second to none, especially in the breakfast restaurant. The manager, Daniel, and his staff were superb! The hotel staff and the porters and the front door staff were friendly and helpful from getting us taxis to directing us to the nearest laundromat. The hotel itself is beautiful and has the most amazing scent. The shopping malls are all in this area and the eateries are vast with many varieties. Loved Beijing!
The hotel benefits from being part of the IHG brand, offering a modern design, an excellent location and a team of friendly and supportive staff who contributed positively to our stay. There are, however, a few areas that would benefit from improvement. The sound insulation from the external environment could be enhanced, as outside noise was noticeable within the rooms. In addition, the air conditioning system appears to be a concern throughout the hotel and would benefit from management's attention, as it impacted overall comfort during the stay. Furthermore, both the in-room dining menu and breakfast offering were relatively limited, particularly considering the standards typically associated with an international hotel brand. Expanding the variety of food options would significantly enhance the guest experience. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and appreciate the efforts of the hotel team, while hoping these areas will be addressed in the future.
Our stay at the InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun was overall pleasant, with a few areas that could benefit from improvement. The location is excellent, right in the vibrant Sanlitun area. However, due to heavy traffic and frequent pedestrian crossings, it can sometimes take quite a while for a Didi car to reach the hotel entrance. Upon arrival, the staff were warm and welcoming, quickly guiding us to the check-in desk, which set a positive first impression. We had booked a 1 King Classic Room High Floor and were upgraded to a Deluxe Club Room (without club access). While the upgrade was appreciated, it wasn’t entirely clear what the difference was compared to the original booking. The room itself had a modern, luxurious design, and we appreciated the inclusion of internationally recognised premium bathroom amenities, including body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap. Complimentary soft drinks in the upper section of the minibar were also a nice touch. However, the bathroom design prioritises aesthetics over practicality. The oval-shaped bathtub looks elegant and is nice for soaking, but it is quite deep and lacks support handles, making it difficult—and potentially unsafe—to get out due to the slippery surface. Similarly, the layout of the shower and toilet is not ideal. A single sliding door serves both areas, offering limited privacy and no proper lock. Water from the shower easily splashes onto the marble floor, creating a slippery and hazardous environment. The fixtures, including the shower and bathtub controls, are not intuitive and may be challenging for first-time users. A short room orientation or demonstration during check-in would greatly improve the guest experience. The sink design, while visually appealing, is also not very functional. Two small square sinks separated from each other. My suggestion one whole solid marble work top,a more practical setup with under-mounted sinks and storage drawers would enhance usability better than the these already in use. The bedroom itself is stylish, with a comfortable mattress and a pleasant rounded layout. However, the pillows were too soft and lacked support—they flatten quickly and would benefit from being firmer or more substantial. Breakfast was acceptable but fell short of expectations for a hotel of this level. The bakery and pastry selection was quite limited and could be improved. While it was nice to see freshly squeezed juices, the dim sum selection was also restricted—for example, prawn dumplings were not available during our visit. Overall, the buffet offers room for enhancement to better match the hotel’s premium positioning, especially considering the strong competition in Beijing.
⭐️ Review of Intercontinental Hotel — A Mix of Grandeur and Missed Opportunities The Intercontinental brand has a reputation for elevating luxury, and this property certainly delivers that impression at first glance. From the refined exterior to the stunning, high-ceilinged lobby, the hotel proudly presents the upscale identity Intercon is known for. First Impressions & Check-In However, the experience shifted once we reached our 17th-floor twin room booked through Hotelux. Despite the grandeur of the property, the check-in process felt underwhelming. There was no offer of a complimentary upgrade—something many five-star hotels proactively extend when available—and the staff did not inform us of our included USD 100 credit. Small details like these matter, especially at a luxury hotel, and they shape a guest’s confidence in the property. Instances like this are exactly why I hesitate to join hotel membership programs unless I’m certain the specific hotel consistently lives up to the Intercontinental standard. Even when I switched to Mandarin during the conversation, hoping communication would improve, the interaction still lacked warmth and attentiveness. Overall, the check-in felt rushed, as if everything was operating on autopilot. Facilities & Ambience To the hotel’s credit, the facilities are undeniably excellent. • The pool is beautifully designed. • The gym is impressively equipped and, better yet, open 24 hours. • The property’s aesthetics are so polished that we found ourselves being extra careful around the artistic décor—some pieces looked like they could cost a small fortune. The Room The room offered plenty of luxurious touches, including the standout Byredo spa-series amenities, which immediately elevated the stay. That said, several design and comfort issues held the experience back: • The twin beds were slightly smaller than standard queens. • The bathroom layout felt cluttered, with an oversized bathtub dominating the space. • The room’s materials were premium, but the overall layout didn’t fully capture the essence of five-star comfort. • The hair dryer cable was too short, creating an unnecessary tripping risk. • The Wi-Fi was unstable at times. While these issues were minor on their own, together they interrupted what should have been a seamless luxury stay. Compared to our time at Intercontinental Sukhumvit 59, this property felt less thoughtfully planned. Club Lounge The Club Lounge was elegant, immaculate, and beautifully furnished—easily on par with top lounges in the region. However, the food selection during evening cocktails leaned heavily toward Indian cuisine. While delicious, the lack of international variety made the offering feel less globally balanced than expected. Breakfast Breakfast was one of the strongest highlights. The variety, quality, and international selection were excellent and restored confidence in the hotel’s culinary standards. What Could Be Improved • Water pressure in the shower was surprisingly low, becoming a small but persistent irritation after long days out. ⸻ ⭐️ Overall Rating: 4.7 / 5 ⸻ Final Thoughts The Intercontinental delivers striking visuals, strong facilities, and moments of true luxury. However, inconsistent service, room layout limitations, and a lack of variety in the Club Lounge held it back from being a truly flawless five-star stay. How I wish everyone could be like Danjiel Andelojvic—so helpful, friendly, and warm. More hospitality professionals with that kind of attitude would elevate the guest experience immensely. And without a doubt, the full 5 stars goes to Mika, who went the extra mile to help us communicate with DiDi and identify our lost items. Her dedication, patience, and genuine care truly stood out, turning a stressful situation into a resolved one. With better attention to detail and a warmer, more attentive service culture, this property has the potential to become one of the best Intercontinental hotels worldwide.
