It’s been a year since my mom, aunt, and I did the Captivating Cotswolds Tour with Matthias, and we still talk about it regularly and look back on it with so much fondness. Matthias’s communication leading up to the tour was clear, and we had no concerns or questions leading into the day. We spent the day looking at beautiful scenery, hearing about the history of the areas, architecture, and at times the food. There was something for everyone, and it felt like the more Matthias got to know us, the more he catered the tour to our interests. Also, it’s worth noting that all 3 of us are gluten free, and we were able to safely enjoy a lovely meal and drink at a quaint local restaurant. It was our favorite day of our trip, and we couldn’t recommend him enough. We can’t wait to come back and do another tour!

Matthias (Matt) was an outstanding tour guide. The tour we took was actually customized: Oxford and Blenheim Palace (and we drove through the Cotswolds on the way back to Bath). Matt’s knowledge of so many things is “off the charts”. Fabulous day and I think he spent a bit more time with us than he was contracted for.

We did a full day private Cotswolds tour with Matt, the guide and owner of Galahad Tours. We couldn’t have been more pleased with how everything was arranged. The Mercedes minivan was modern and very comfortable, the pickup was perfectly on time, and the itinerary was clear from the start. Matt combined professionalism with a genuinely friendly approach. He is one of the best guides we’ve ever had. A former journalist (or maybe still one ), his ability to present history and facts goes far beyond standard guiding. My husband and I fulfilled our bucket list with this private tour to the Cotswolds. We could not have imagined a more charming, knowledgable and endearing tour guide as we had with Matt at the helm. A pick up from our hotel in Bath, his warm and humorous personality came through in the comfort of his luxury van. We drove through the magical towns, stopped to walk around ,and enjoyed a delicious lunch in a local pub all while being educated about the history of this extraordinary part of the UK. Matt has a wealth of knowledge about these parts and could answer all of our questions. We happened to be there on November 11 , Remembrance Day, to mark the end of WW1, so ceremonies and moments of silence were acknowledged. Very touching. His new Mercedes van was the perfect way to see this beautiful region of the Cotswolds and his expert driving down narrow roads lined with tall hedgerows was much appreciated. Matt’s knowledge of this area ( we visited 5 villages over the 8.5 hours) was extensive and he brought to life the histories and stories of this fabled English countryside. We stopped for lunch at a perfect pub and later in day he dropped us at a footpath so we could experience the lovely experience of strolling on a footpath ( about 20 minutes) along a stream and grazing sheep from upper Slaughter to Lower, meeting us at other end. He had us home at hotel safe and sound in time for my husband and I to sit down for dinner together and discuss how fabulous the day had been. One to be remembered! We have travelled and toured many places from Cairo to Amsterdam and we rank this day among the very best. If ‘The Cotswolds’ is on your bucket list, we cannot recommend Matthias more. This is the 2nd day of 3 all day tours my husband and I had with Mattias. Our guide Matthias picked us up in a very comfortable lovely vehicle. He had water for us, and did a fantastic job explaining history and ownership of the Cotswolds. Walking into this area is like entering a fairytale. Mattias took us around villages and to beautiful picturesque settings. He then took us to a centuries old restaurant for lunch. That was quite lovely. We had a very enjoyable day and really appreciated the experience with Mattias.

In May we did three day tours of the Cotswolds, Wales and the third day a custom tour with Matthias that was amazing. Matthias was so accommodating and enjoyable to be with as he drive us all around the showing us the sights and supplying background information we never knew about. I can’t say enough about him from all our questions he answered leading up to booking of the tours, to him coming to pick us up in his perfectly clean Mercedes minivan from our Narrow Boat in Bradford on Avon to him taking us all around southern England and Wales for three days. He is so knowledgeable of the sights and just a pleasure to be chitchatting with. We would happily book him again.

He took us to the most charming villages even some that were off the beaten path. The tour also included a great lunch in a local restaurant. Just back from an incredible day with Matthias. If you’re considering whether to book a private tour or go on a larger group tour, I’d encourage you to spend the little bit extra to book the private tour as the level of attention, ability to access some of the smaller villages, and depth of knowledge is unparalleled. We have traveled as a group of friends in many countries and taken lots of tours and this is easily near the top if not the best we’ve had. We had a brilliant day with Matt - this was definitely the highlight of our trip to Bath. Matt is incredibly knowledgeable and also has a genuine curiousity about people which makes for a terrific tour guide. We thought the tour had a brilliant balance of beautiful sights, historical areas and a bit of time for us to explore by ourselves. The best part was the walk from Upper to Lower Slaughter.

Matt of Galahad Tours hosted the most amazing day driving through the Coswolds and visiting several of the villages. He is brimming with all the history and interesting tidbits that make this day tour very enjoyable. Prior to booking the tour, I was somewhat disappointed about certain villages not being included in the itinerary, but Matt explained that those more well known villages are now very overrun with tourists. Therefore, he took us to several villages that were equally as beautiful and historically significant in some cases. Matt was absolutely a delight to spend the day with, and I can not recommend this tour more highly. It was worth every penny!

What a remarkable day we had with Matt. Matt promptly picked us up at our requested location and began our tour with historical, architectural and geographical history of the region. Very knowledgeable, personable and accommodating to our group of five. Key highlights included Castle Combe, Lacocke, Corsham and Bradford-on-Avon. In addition to visiting historical sites we also visited filming sites for films such as Harry Potter, War Horse, Pride and Prejudice and Downton Abbey. Lovely, captivating and intelligent host. Longer story: I knew I wanted to see some of the Cotswolds on my most recent trip to London with our group of 4, but knew that I did not want to do a large bus tour. I was trying to decide between renting our own car and booking a private tour, and I'm SO glad we booked with Matthias (Matt). After searching online for hours through so many tours, I finally reached out to Matt and he helped put together the most quaint itinerary of three picturesque Cotswold villages. But he can customize the itinerary according to whatever you want to see in the area. After excellent pre-meet up communication, Matt picked us up from the Bath train station in his incredibly clean and comfortable Mercedes van (thoughtfully stocked with waters for all of us!), and he felt like an instant friend! Matt drove us through beautiful scenery as we went from village to village, teaching us the history of each little place (and wove it into British history as a whole) as we went along. At each stop we got out and walked around with plenty of time to explore in each location. Matt expertly guided us as we stopped in at local shops (Matt is so friendly, and must know nearly everyone, and we got to have conversations with so many of the owners which was a huge highlight making the experience so personal), churches, old manors, and wandered the villages as Matt pointed out and taught us about all of the details we would never have noticed had we gone alone. Matt arranged lunch at a delicious pub as well for us. He was attentive to every detail, customizing the day as we went along. If we wanted a coffee, snack, or bathroom break we were able to stop at any time. This is on of the many benefits of having a private tour. We had such an authentic experience with Matt... it was exactly what we were looking for and something you just cannot get on the larger (or even small group) tours. It felt like we were visiting an old friend who was showing us around for the day. The experience was 100% worth every penny and next time we're back in the area we will book with Matt again!

Matt was a fantastic guide and was a wealth of knowledge and able to provide rich context for each location. He was able to pique various different interests for our family of six (3 generations including teens). My husband, a history buff, enjoyed the various historical elements Matt weaved into the stories and I enjoyed the beauty of the Cotswolds, while my kids got to hear what life might have been like for them in the old days. The all day tour was not too strenuous for my 85 & 87yo in-laws as there were lots of rest in between. We also had a lovely outdoor lunch at one of the inns and had the best homemade black current ice cream from a street cart. We all had a wonderful memorable time. Thanks Matt!

Matt's tour was fantastic. Our full day private tour with Matt included ages from 15 to 87, and he was engaging and fascinating to everyone. His comfortable and spacious Mercedes Benz mini-van was a great way to see the Cotswolds in a day. I made contact only two weeks in advance, so we had to fit as much as possible into the one open day Matt could offer. We toured several Cotswold villages before finishing the day in Bath. With his extensive knowledge of the local history and architecture, he brought back to life the churches, estates, grand townhouses and little village homes from 500 years ago. I wish I had history teachers as interesting in my school days. The comfortable Mercedes V Class handles a smaller group, so we could direct where and when we moved on to the next interesting sight and story. For our next trip we will definitely plan far earlier to engage Matt for at least two days.

Early May is a beautiful time to see the country side with the fields of yellow rape seed and the wisteria blooming on the homes. It was a very special time.
