We continue along Argyle Street and stop to looking at Laura Place and Great Pulteney Street. This stop takes about 15 minutes during which the magnificant town house architecture Great Pulteney Street is explained and its famous residents in the 18th and 19th century. The Holburne Museum of Art is visible from this stop. A walk along Pulteney Street towards the Holburn Museum can be undertaken and at the same time viewing the front of No. 4 Sydney Place where a name plaque commemorates Jane Austens first dwelling in Bath (no admission, museum or centre).
Celebrating Bath's most famous resident The Jane Austen Centre offers a snapshot of life during Regency times and explores how living in Bath affected Jane Austen's life and writing. A tour through the centre can be booked separately by guests , however my tour does include entering the centre free of charge and visiting the book shop .
The most photographed building in Bath and largest Crescent in Europe was built in the second half of the 18th century and consists of 30 terraced houses dramatically connected with giant Ionic columns. No. 1 is a museum and guests can see what these grand Georgian houses looked like inside. Charge and tour of the museum is not included.
A grand medieval cathedral was started in the early 12th century and in 1499 Bishop Oliver King started restoration . Completion took place under Elizabeth I in 1611 . The Abbey is famous for its memorials and wall plaques and the crowning of the first Kind of England, Edgar I in 977. Details will be explored and explained and guests can visit its interiors.
This is the only place in Britain where you may swim in natural thermal water, crowned with a rooftop pool with 35 degrees Celsius and open summer and winter. The Hetling Spring, Cross Spring and King's Spring will be explained and their origins dating back 10.000 years.
Besides the unique architectural achievements of the square guests will get to know details of Jane Austen's short residence at No. 13 in 1799

Public and ball rooms of grand designs where the fashinable people of the Regency period socialized. The ballrooms , the octagon, the card room and the tea room still play host to many events.
The main landmark of Bath dating from the 1st century AD, featuring the impressive Roman temple of Sulis Minerva and pools. It is recommended that guess book audio tours for the Roman Bath separately before or after the tour . Adjoing the baths is a sumbol of the city's golden age in the Gerogian Period - the Pump Room -where the fashin concious elite gathered for balls, tea and to 'take the waters'. It was here that Catherine and Isabelle often met in Jane Austen's novel 'Northanger Abbey'

This was an extremely informative tour with an intersection of Bath history with information of Austen’s life along with places she lived and stayed in Bath. The knowledge I received on the tour helped me understand her perspective when she wrote her novels in an incredible way. It made me appreciate her life and her work in a new way. Highly recommend this tour!
This was a really enjoyable guided walk which took in a wide range of Bath locations, mainly, but not exclusively related to Jane Austen. Our guide was knowledgeable and engaging. I would, ideally, have enjoyed more direct references to the scenes in Persuasion and Northanger Abbey which were set in Bath - actual locations where characters lived or visited.
Ulrich was an excellent guide. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the Jane Austen Trail with him
Great blend of info on Jane A and Bath. Ulrich is pleasant and extremely knowledgeable about Jane A and Bath. Highly recommend. We really enjoyed our tour.
Ulrich was incredibly well informed and took us deep into Jane Austen and her relationship to Bath. We spent almost three hours with him and enjoyed every minute of it. He knew so much about Bath and Jane and had a real passion for the subject. Highly recommended,
I really enjoyed this walking tour of Bath. The city itself is beautiful, and the tour is a great way to explore it, as you get to walk around quite a lot while learning about its history. Ulrich is extremely knowledgeable and shared so much information throughout the tour, including lots of interesting details about the places we visited. I was impressed by how much he knew about the city and its history. Bath is very walkable and many of the main sights are quite close to each other, but you still cover a good amount of ground during the tour, so be prepared to walk! Overall, it was a very interesting and informative way to discover the city.
Yuri did a very through job of the tour. He seemed to have a lot of knowledge to share. Disappointing that he did have any way to identify himself or the company. Given how much goes on out there not a good start. The tour mentions starting and stopping at the same place but when we reached the end time and we were nowhere close to the starting place he said I have another tour you can walk to this other place if you want. There were only 3 of us and it was hard to keep up with him. We got to the Jane Austen center and they said they were full. If this was part of the tour it was definitely a miss. Would have been good to know the route planned.
The tour gave you a lot of the history of Bath and took you past a lot of historical sites, but did not really give you much insight into the life of Jane Austin…what motivated her to write the stories she did, inspirations, what it was like to be a woman fighting to be financially independent in a man’s world, funny anecdotes about her life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour with Ulrich! He is very knowlegeable about Bath architecture and history, not just the parts related to Jane Austen.
Great review of Bath and Jane Austen at the same time. We saw the assembly hall where there was lots of dancing like in the books and movies. Ulrich was great.
This tour was my favorite experience in Bath. The tour explores Jane Austen's Bath, her homes there, and places she would have gone. At the same time, I learned about significant happenings Bath history, from the Roman Baths to the Georgian architecture, to the Beatles' performance here in 1963! Ulrich was a font of information and answered all questions in his calm and friendly way. It's always wonderful to meet another Jane Austen devotee, and this one also knows everything and anything about Bath in general. The 2.5 hours flew by!
Ulrich was outstanding! Easy meet at the coffee shop. He was a wealth of knowledge & interesting history & details about Jane Austen’s life & family. We thoroughly enjoyed it. He also gave as excellent recommendations for other places to visit after our tour. He even made sure to point out the best postcard photo ops! Thank you, Ulrich!! We thoroughly enjoyed the tour.
Guide very knowledgeable, fair amount of walking lots to see ,well organized, a little fast pace overall excellent
The tour was interesting with facts about Jane Austen mixed with other historical information. He drew comparisons about different people compared to Jane. He was interesting guide. However, when I stopped to go to the toilet , he had disappeared. I waited for him for almost 15 minutes. I gave up and walked on doing my own thing the rest of the afternoon. I only got a 90 minutes of tour.
This was the highlight of my entire Bath stay! If you don’t have a lot of time, skip the Jane Austen Centre which was really low in terms of content and disappointing and go on this walk with Ulrich. He was so kind and well informed. Was an absolute gem of a guide! He will take you around to where Austen used to live and all the other precious sights around Bath. Really loved my time w Ulrich and highly recommend him to anyone and everyone interested in history and Austen.
This tour was great value. Our guide was knowledgeable and took us all over the town but we were not rushed. My teenagers didn’t appreciate it as much as my husband and I did. Wear good walking shoes!
Ulrich’s Jane Austen tour was utterly magical! He was so knowledgeable and transported us back in time to understand what Bath was like in across millennia - from pre-Roman times, through to the 1800s . He shared fascinating facts, was patient, kind and answered our every question with unparalleled knowledge. I appreciated that the tour was a good mixture of Bath history and Austen history. Highly highly recommend
We loved our tour with our guide. He shared so much more than just Jane Austen lore, we felt like we understood the history of Bath and its inhabitants.
Loved the tour guide! Super sweet and cute experience :)
Our guide was excellent! Fun walk around Bath. Our guide was very helpful and informative. Highly recommended.
There’s lots of great guides in Bath but Ulrich wasn’t one of them. No passion for subject and very little information on Jane Austen!
This was a really lovely tour - lots of additional information peppered in to the key points around Jane Austen. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable!!!
Ulrich was amazing! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend! The tour was a good mix of the history of Bath and the history of Jane Austen.
This tour was very enjoyable! It was a blend of the history of Bath with the story of Jane Austen's life. I would highly recommend it!
Outstanding walking tour of Austen highlights with great Bath history as well. All the spots were interesting and Ulrich was an exceptional guide.
really a walking tour of some parts of the city. not what I had expected. I probably misunderstood the event description.
We had a great time with our guide Ulrich! He had so much great knowledge and we got a great knowledge of Bath and Jane Austen! A lot of fun and would recommend:)
Nice, interesting visit. Wonderful guide that adapted to our questions and interests
Ulrich was very knowledgeable and gave us all sorts of historical information about Jane Austen and other trivia as we walked through the beautiful streets of Bath. We covered a lot of ground.
The three of us had a great time on this tour. It was more than we expected. Ulrich even accompanied us to special places that we specifically wanted to see in Bath and weren't part of Jane Austen's life. I highly recommend!
We really enjoyed the Jane Austen walking tour and found it both informative and engaging. Ulrich brought Austen’s world to life with thoughtful commentary, historical context, and well chosen locations.
It was good and informative. The guide had a very soft voice and at times it was hard to hear. Overall the guide had good knowledge and it was a nice way to get introduced to the city.
Ulrich is an excellent tour guide, we learned a lot more history of Bath and Jane Austen than expected and saw the significant sites, knew where to take pictures and offered to take them. I would advise doing this tour at the beginning of your trip so that you may get good ideas of where else to spend your time in Bath.
Absolutely fabulous. Recommended.
A great experience with Ulrich. He was very knowledgeable about Bath and Jane Austen. It was a very interesting tour and I would certainly recommend him.
We had such an enjoyable afternoon! While we booked the Jane Austen tour, we learned so much about her and her life , but as a bonus we also we got to learn about Roman history, the Normans, architecture, the Beatles and more! What a delight, even in the rain!
Lovely tour of the city with knowledgeable guide. We were the only ones on his first tour of the day so it felt more like a private tour which was nice. Learned a lot about Jane Austen’s life but also about the city. Weather was beautiful which made it a perfect day.
My family and I had such an enjoyable and informative Jane Austen tour of BathThe time passed so quickly because of Ulrecht’s great knowledge and company.Would highly recommend.
It was a beautiful walk through Bath filled with great information. Our tour guide was the sweetest gentleman.
My morning tour with Ulrich was a delight. As it happens I was the only booking so it was a personalized experience. He is very knowledgeable and yet not overwhelming. The pace was just right as was the mix of Jane Austen tidbits and Bath history. Highly recommend.
It is walking around. I cannot walk far. The guide told me about sights and I used a toot bus to see them. He also gave me a great map
Well researched guide, who gave even a long time Austen fan, a new perspective & great new nuggets of information.. worth a walk if you want to connect to Jane’s Bath.
Such a treat to have a lovely experience! Ulricht was so knowledgeable and very considerate of our need to get back to the car park on time ! He’s a lovely man ! Thoroughly recommend
Ulrich was very well informed and friendly. The weather was very poor, but Ulrich was happy to give us the tour anyway - at our discretion, with options to shelter and do a 'virtual tour' if we wanted to. We didn't, however, and had a nice time walking around Bath and hearing about the foundations of the city along with lots of Jane Austen titbits.
Excellent tour of Bath with a very knowledgeable guide! I learned so much about the city of Bath and Jane Austen. It was very cool to walk the same streets Miss Austen did and imagine the city through her eyes.
I was fortunate enough to have the guide all to myself! We grabbed our umbrellas, and off we went. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the area, the architecture and architects, and, of course, Jane Austen and her family! It was a wonderful experience that I highly recommend. There is no better way to spend 2.5 hours in Bath!
Ulrich provided us with a wonderful couple of hours showing us the history of Bath. He was able to answer our numerous questions with a depth that reflected his enthusiasm for the city. He also went at a pace that was comfortable for us in our sixties. Jane Austen association with Bath was discussed in depth. Highly recommended.
Covers some of the best spots of bath with a very interesting and knowledgeable guide. We learned a lot of about Jane Austen’s live and also general history about Bath.
This was an amazing walking tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. We learned so much about both Bath and Jane Austen.
