A fantastic tour of Bath, Jess was an excellent guide and managed keeping our young kids engaged as well as the adults on the tour.
My wife and I love starting a visit with a walking tour to get a feel for a town or city. Jess was a treasure trove of information which was delivered with humour and style. She also gave us ideas for the rest of our holiday break. Great fun and thoroughly recommended.
We are so happy we booked a private walking tour with Bath Walking Tours. Andy was a wonderful guide - full of information about this beautiful city and many fun stories along the way. Would highly recommend if you are planning a trip to Bath!
We had a private walking tour with Andy and can highly recommend both the tour and Andy as a guide. He catered the tour to the participants and was full of knowledge about his native city. Everyone agreed that it was a fantastic way to start our weekend in Bath and we learnt a lot. Thank you Andy.
Jim was an excellent tour guide. His wealth of knowledge about Bath was only exceeded by his enthusiasm and charm. Ask almost any question and he has the answer. Beyond the tour itself he provided us with great advice about other sights to see and places to eat in Bath. A sight better than Andy, or so I hear.
Our guide Andrew was extremely knowledgeable, and offered us a great tour of the City of Bath. Definitely recommend!
Really enjoyed this walking tour. Length was perfect and learnt a lot even though I’ve been to Bath many times before. Andrew was very knowledgeable. Would recommend.
Andrew provided a lovely tour full of interesting facts, and answered all questions brilliantly. Was very engaging, would recommend!
My boyfriend and I had an incredible time exploring Bath with Jim! So knowledgeable, kind and full of wonderful stories. Such an impressive and historic city, and Jum pointed out some hidden gems we would’ve otherwise missed. Definitely recommend booking for an intimate look at this beautiful city!
Dearest Gentle Reader, If you find yourself in Bath, you simply must book a walking tour with Jim. He customized our tour with a Bridgerton theme, and it was nothing short of enchanting. From iconic filming locations to fascinating historical insights, Jim delivered it all with charm, wit, and expertise. Our group felt truly catered to, and the experience was both informative and wonderfully entertaining. Five stars without hesitation!
Jim was incredibly knowledgeable about the city. He was very engaging and kept us entertained for the entire 2-hour tour. Would definitely recommend.
Superb guide. Susan was the ultimate professional. Very knowledgeable and so passionate. Really enjoyed it! Would highly recommend anyone coming to Bath to book a tour.
Great tour and our guide was fantastic! He knew the ins and outs of the town as a local. Would recommend to anyone!
Great tour covering a range of subjects and interests. The guide (Andy) was fantastic - very knowledgeable and very nice.
Jim was great! Easy to arrange and a fab tour. His passion and knowledge told us about the place, the people thru history.
Jim was an excellent guide. We would highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting an introduction to Bath!
We had the absolute pleasure of touring Bath with Jim, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip to England. From the moment the tour began, Jim had us captivated with his incredible storytelling and deep knowledge of Bath’s rich history. He brought the city to life with fascinating tales, hidden details, and a genuine passion for the place that was absolutely infectious. Every stop along the way was made even more special by Jim’s insights — whether it was a fun historical anecdote or a little-known fact, he made sure we were engaged and entertained the whole time. His warmth, humor, and professionalism made the experience feel both personal and unforgettable. We loved every second and can’t recommend Jim highly enough. If you’re visiting Bath, do yourself a favor and book a tour with him — you won’t regret it!
Our private tour with our guide Owen was phenomenal. He weaved a charming story about the history of Bath, detailing the architecture and the various people and customs that shaped the city as it is today.
Jim managed to pack an incredible number of fascinating facts into just over two hours. I’ve never enjoyed a town walk so much. We explored the full sweep of Bath’s history — from Roman times through to the Georgian era, with its stunning architecture, and even the impact of the Second World War. Jim also shared insights into Jane Austen’s life in Bath, including her residences, sources of inspiration, and favourite walking routes. Highlights included a whistle-stop tour of the Pump Rooms, visits to filming locations, and intriguing details about the city’s rivers, hot springs, and local flora — such as the Handkerchief Tree and the London Plane. Jim also recommended a fantastic restaurant for the evening (The Circus), which we thoroughly enjoyed, and we ended our day with tea and cake at what has to be the best spot in town — The Colombian Company. I couldn’t recommend Jim more highly — and as a bonus, he takes excellent photos too!
I visited Bath during the bank holiday weekend in early May with a group of friends and Jim provided the most amazing, informative, fun and interesting tour to our group. The tour was wonderfully personalised as we had a huge Jane Austen fan with us and Jim really took the time to point out some key highlights. There were also lots of fun Bridgerton facts too. Jim has such a vast knowledge of Bath's history and architecture but delivers it with such a fun and engaging manner. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bath, particularly any Austen or Bridgerton fans - you won't be disappointed but just be prepared for a good old chuckle along the way. Thank you Jim for making our visit extra special.
What an amazing weekend and Jim McPhee’s tour of Bath was just incredible and a real highlight. His local knowledge and enthusiasm really made the tour personable and the time we spent together flew by. His personal touch tailoring it towards my love of Jane Austen was wonderful. Thank you so much Jim, we all had the best time.
Lucy is a fantastic guide and she was amazing answering the myriad of questions my very curious grandkids had for her! Highly recommend!
We were lucky enough to take two excellent tours (on a sunny day in February no less!) with guides Jim and Andy. We had chosen to do the Literary Icons and Bath in Tv and Film tours with a group of 40 University students and both guides tailored their tours to our group with heaps of interesting facts and information. The students were very engaged and the guides were only too happy to answer questions and share interesting stories. We also had some travel disruption heading to Bath which meant we were late arriving to our tours but the guides couldn't have been more understanding and accommodating. Thank you Andy and Jim, I'm already looking at dates to book in for our next trip!
Our Guide was very bright and informative, he painted a clear picture of Bath for us, its history up to present day, and maintained the interest of all 3 generations of our family group.
Little did I know when I went on the Internet to try and find the number of the Bath tourist office every number I tried sent me back to the start of the tour! Frustrated as I couldn’t believe such an historical city as Bath didn’t actually have a tourist office with a telephone number! (but then my grandchildren Tell me I’m out of touch) I looked at tour guides listed of Bath and by chance telephoned a number and to my utter delight Jim, clearly very experienced private tour guide very kindly took me on a whistle stop telephone tour and even sent me a page of all the delights of the city and pointed out the Bath delights, age appropriate for the grandchildren. Furthermore, he gave me all the insider info, the fun little anecdotal stories and quirky places to visit.. Can’t think why the Bath city information office don’t employ Jim! We’re well prepared for our Bath adventure thanks to Jim McpheeI wouldn’t have any hesitation in recommending him should anybody want an insider exclusive tour?
After taking two American couples on a birdwatching holiday around Somerset my clients wanted a more general guided tour of Bath with an expert guide on the city. Boy we hit the jackpot with Jim from Bath Walking Tours. Jim quickly got the level of information exactly right for the group mixing history humour and personal anecdotes as we walked for two hours around the beautiful city. It was a cold afternoon however Jim knew where we could warm our hands and where loos were if required (they were!) I cannot recommend Bath Walking Tours highly enough. If you’re visiting Bath and want an unforgettable experience, book a tour with Jim! Our private tour with him was nothing short of amazing. He’s incredibly personable, weaving fascinating stories and facts into every stop we made. Jim struck the perfect balance in pace for our group of four, ensuring we never felt rushed while covering so much ground. From the city’s rich history to its role in filming Bridgerton, from wartime stories to stunning architecture, he brought it all to life with incredible detail. Not only did Jim share fantastic restaurant recommendations, but he also pointed out the best photo spots and even knew all the hidden toilets (a lifesaver!). This tour was a highlight of our trip, and Jim is truly a gem. If you want to experience Bath like an insider, he’s your guy. Highly recommend! Photo: us with our new buddy, Jim (wearing the blue badge)
James is a great tour guide, with knowledge on architecture and history. I recommend going on a tour with him the first day you arrive in Bath so you can get his recommendations about where to go during your stay. He told us about several things we never would have known about. Highly recommend!
Andrew walk us through the city main attractions. He is so knowledgeable so nice made the day so efficient and enjoyable. I recommend this tour as it give you a great summery about Bath and it main attractions and history.
Tony did an excellent job! This is one of the best tours I have ever been on. His knowledge (both personal and historical) of the area is incredible, and the organized way he presents it allows tour group members a better chance of absorbing/retaining some of that information. Thank you, Tony!
Thanks to Andy for doing a fantastic job of sharing the 2000 year old story of Bath in only 2 hours. We learned a lot and had a super time. Bath is wonderful!
All of the Viator tours that we booked for our recent trip were high-quality, but our Bath trip with Tony was even better than the others- in addition to being very personable, he was knowledgeable on a broad range of subjects, providing responses to all of our questions. We would recommend him to anyone seeking a similar experience!
We all really enjoyed the tour and your extensive knowledge of the beautiful City of Bath, we all agreed we have enough good local knowledge to return. Thank you Jim
Our guide, Victoria, was very knowledgeable and very pleasant. She took us back in time and gave us a great overview of the town and all of the key locations. Great tour!!!
The explanations of the architecture. And the way of life in the 18th century. The early history was explained. The guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable. The Jane Austin center was very interesting.
Andy, our guide, was very informative and really gave us a sense of Bath. We even learned the game of cricket!
Andy did a great job. He was very knowledgeable about history and the city. It was a beautiful city with an amazing history.
Jim was amazing! We really enjoyed our walking tour of Bath, and we highly recommend his services. He was very knowledgeable and sensitive to our group needs. Thanks Jim!
Absolutely fantastic Tour for Leatherhead Rotary and members of the Lens Louvre club. from Jim, Andy and Pascale. Thoroughly recommend! Informative and fun, excellent at building rapport with our group. Thank you Jim for your great suggestions before hand on recommended place to visit and great communication overall
Jim was amazing. He went out of his way to accomodate our group of six on New Year's Eve. First, there didn't appear to be any availability. So I emailed him, and he told me that even though the availability wasn't there on the website, that he could make it happen. Second, we were running just a bit late because of traffic and a long, slow lunch place. He came and met us at the restaurant. Third, the weather was a bit dodgy, so we stopped by his office and he loaded us all up with umbrellas. Fourth, he led us through one of the biggest, windiest squalls that any of us had ever experienced. It only lasted a few minutes, but it was intense. Finally, the weather got significantly worse from the beginning to the end of the tour, so in the end, he led us into a coffee shop where he treated us all to whatever warm beverage we wanted. Add in that he had broad and deep knowledge of Bath that was interesting to both my wife and I, and our 4 children. Truly a first-rate experience.
Our group of seven friends recently did the private walking tour which included entrance tickets to the Roman Baths. We found our guide, Tony, to be extremely pleasant and well informed. It was evident from the start that Tony was passionate about sharing his vast knowledge of this beautiful city. The time just seemed to fly as we strolled along and learned so much about this fascinating place. We can definitely recommend this tour. Such a positive experience.
Jan was a font of knowledge spanning all eras of Bath’s history. She effortlessly fielded all our questions and added more. Jim beforehand kept me well informed about arrangements for the tour. From start to finish a fantastic and enjoyable experience.
Andy was very pleasant and knowledgeable and willing to tailor our tour. I was with some American friends and he conveyed the essentials of Bath history to them in an interesting manner
Andrew was the best tour guide. He accommodated our time. Gave some extra facts about Bath related to our country of origin. He had a very good knowledge of the town.
We had requested a tour with an emphasis on Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer. Victoria our guide was very knowledgeable and particularly good both at putting the historical context in and linking the authors with others who had written in and about Bath. She also covered the wider history for this in our party with less of an interest in literature. The tour was informative, amusing and well structured. I would highly recommend.
We had an amazing walking tour with our guide Jan. We were a group of European teachers with four languages spoken between us, but she was patient and kind and spoke with great expertise about the areas of Bath she showed us. She was also very helpful and understanding when we were a bit late after getting stuck in traffic. We still got to see all the important and interesting bits of Bath and everyone on the tour loved it. I can totally recommend this tour.
Tony was our tour guide. Jim was our contact person. On the way to Bath we got a flat tire and we were not sure if we were going to make the tour, which we did not want to miss. I called Jim who in turn contacted Tony who then sent me a text. They told me no problem just keep us updated. Well we were only about 20 minutes late and Tony waited for us and gave us our full 2 hours plus. Tony covered everything to know about Bath, which is a small town but not to be missed. We learned the history, architecture, movies that were filmed there and great walking paths along the beautiful surroundings along with places to dine. This is a definite must before starting your stay in Bath and Tony is the perfect guide full of knowledge. We always start our trips in new places with a 2-3 hour tour with a guide to get the lay of the land, which gives you the must sees and things to do, to make your trip in a new place. Do this tour, climb the steep to the top in the Abby, go to the Roman Baths and roam the streets.
Our tour guide, Andy, was fantastic showing us around Bath and explaining the history as well as mentioning the places where Bath's old buildings were used for filming. We can thoroughly recommend Bath Walking Tours.
We all really loved our walking tour with Andy as our guide. He is so interesting and knowledgeable about the history of Bath. Very highly recommended!!!
