What a wonderful experiences we had visiting Stonehenge and the surrounding areas. Our driver/ guide Roland Hurrell arrived early and was waiting for us in the hotel lobby. Very polite and friendly with great knowledge of the area. Chose a great little pub off the beaten path for lunch. My wife and I totally enjoyed the day. I would definitely recommend Roland for your driver/guide.

This was a surprisingly delightful foray into the English countryside and to Stonehenge, led by our tour guide, Ralph Oxborrow, head of partnerships. There were two couples on the trip who we hit it off with, so a bonus. Highly recommend this trip, which was fun, relaxing, and informative. We had lunch at The Bath Arms at Longleat, which was charming (you pay for your own lunch, and it's good food).
Jules could not have been more accommodating in creating a custom tour for us. Knowing we had limited time in and around Bath, he organized a wonderful tour with Max our first day and took us himself the next day back to London via Lacock Abbey and Avebury, a sister site to Stonehenge, which we had requested. He is extremely knowledgeable (having taught history), and enjoys equally if not more so connecting with his guests. Not only did he share the history of each site, but also what he finds most fascinating. We learned a lot, we felt we'd made a new friend! Even though our time frame was tight, we never felt rushed. We had a super day with Jules!
We have just returned from a full day touring with Simon. What a wonderful experience! Simon is very informative with facts about Stonehenge and, as a local, is very knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the surrounding areas of Bath. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the windy backroads into quaint villages, places we would never have found on our own … ancient churches and a great pub for lunch. We are very satisfied customers! Highly recommend.
Our group of 6 had a private tour of Stonehenge and several nearby historic villages with Max. This was a wonderful way to see the countryside, see Stonehenge and pop into a few local pubs for luck and refreshments. We appreciated that this was off the beaten path and not touristy. Max was great and we highly recommend.
From the time of my first email communications with Simon from In and Beyond Bath, I knew I chosen the right tour guides for our time in Bath. Unfortunately, our group of 4 travelers had a short time to spend in Bath and Simon was diligent in providing us a special, curated tour involving (thankfully) being picked up from the Bath train station (we had come from London) and then directly embarking on our journey to Stonehenge. We all knew immediately that Simon is a wealth of knowledge and we began learning much more about the details & history, which made the tour much more enjoyable! Simon knew how much I wanted to see The Cotswold's, but didn't have time - so, after touring Stonehenge we spent the afternoon making stops in quaint quintessential English villages within Somerset & Wiltshire counties. We stopped at a wonderful pub for lunch and continued our afternoon taking in the lovely English countryside before being dropped off at our Bath hotel in the early evening. Simon then joined us again the next morning for a half day walking tour of Bath City. Again, his knowledge of the history, arts & architecture was most appreciated! We ended our time with him transporting us from our hotel to the Bristol airport. We were sad to end our time with Simon but grateful for all we had seen and learned. Travelers to Bath (& beyond) owe it to themselves to contact Simon & In and Beyond Bath. You'll be very glad you did! We look forward to returning and will contact him again.
Stonehenge was better than we expected. Safely guided to Stonehenge with all the pointers and information. Simon was even telling latest discoveries and findings. Gave us private time there for taking it all in. Lunch was lovely and then fun afternoon of hidden treasures. Great day with Simon!
We hired Simon to give us a private 2 day tour of Bath, Stonehenge and the surrounding area. He was excellent; helpful, knowledgeable, organized and with the sweetest disposition. He picked us up at the Bath train station and took us straight to Stonehenge. From there we did a half day walking tour of Bath. The next day he took us to Lacock to show our kids all the Harry Potter filming locations, not to be missed if you’re a HP fan! Then he drove us through a few quaint villages on our journey to Highclere Castle to live out our Downton Abbey fantasy. He even found a way to surprise us with a stop at Avebury on the way! We had the best time with Simon and learned a lot, but he also taught us there is so much more to see! We’ll be back again one day and will definitely be sure to hook up with Simon again.
Simon spent two days with us: a day trip to Stonehenge, and a private tour of the Cotswolds. Both activities were excellent. Simon is extremely knowledgeable, and his discussions of the area and its history very engaging. I would definitely recommend In & Beyond Bath tours and guides.
Simon was absolutely the quintessential guide! We explored the countryside of Bath, England during a beautiful sun filled (with a few droplets of rain) Fall day. As storyteller and guide, Simon provided the exploration of a lifetime and the off the beaten path to several less known yet important locales less visited by hordes of visitors, besides our trip to Stonehenge. Which, was spectacular as we were given quick access amongst the thousands gathered there. It was a fantastic day! Highly recommend Simon; a retired Film Producer and historian.
My husband and I went on the Stonehenge & Secret England tour. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide Simon was knowledgeable and personable. I appreciated hearing all the history on Stonehenge, but then also getting to hear about Lord Bath, the local area, as well as visiting some English villages. Enjoyed learning about Mells and the Horner family, and had tea in a pretty garden. Simon took us to interesting sites that we would not have found on our own, and we enjoyed our conversations. Highly recommend!
The tour was great. I never thought I would see Stonehenge so it was wonderful visiting a site with so much history! Our tour guide Ralph was a delight. He gave us a lot of information but not as to be tiring. The tour of the countryside and small villages was beautiful. Luckily we had good weather and he showed us some interesting spots. Highly recommend it if you like to be informed, go in a small group and be entertained as well.
Our guide Ralph was fantastic. The weather was grey windy and very wet all day, but we still managed Stonehenge and learnt some history surrounding this special place. With the weather so bad Ralph adapted our tour to suit our needs and bring out some hidden gems of the area. Lunch in an historic Pub to warm up and dry off! Thanks Ralph for a brilliant day. We will return again on a sunny day and hope you will be able to be our Tour Guide once again.
Our local driver/guide, Simon, ensured we had the perfect tour as his local knowledge was invaluable. Stonehenge is a must see when visiting this part of the UK - absolutely fascinating! Simon also included some lesser known but wonderful sights. He also took us to a small ANZAC cemetery because of our Australian heritage which was much appreciated. Simon also followed up with an email to us after the tour with a list of the places we visited which was very helpful. He also recommended some other sightseeing for us while we are staying in Bath and on our travels through Cornwall. Thank you Simon for a great day at Stonehenge & Beyond!
What a Wonderful Tour, I would definitely recommend! Jules was so knowledgeable and made us feel so welcomed. You could tell he really cares about his customers!
Our guide Max was very knowledgeable about the area and its history. He is great at story telling, and provided us with a relaxing and informative tour. His helpful tips and recommendations including where to eat were spot on!
Thank you Max and Ralph for a fabulous tour of Stonehenge and the “secret” countryside locations. Just beautiful!! Thank you picking us up on time in your clean comfortable van. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Thanks for being so personable with us. Thank you for letting us explore and not feel rushed at all. Lunch was delicious and thanks for the local beer! Cheers! Until next time!
Max was fantastic. We did this tour as a small school group. It was informative and age-appropriate! Thanks for the great day!
This was such a great day! Our guide Simon gave us a wonderful tour from Bath to Stonehenge and back. He was full of knowledge to share about the area and the locations. Highly recommend!
Jules, our guide, was very informative and passionate about sharing the history of Stonehenge and the other places we stopped on our tour. We enjoyed Stonehenge very much. We would have liked more free time to look around at the various places we stopped at in the afternoon. Jules gave us more background than we needed for the two afternoon stops and it would have been nice to have a look around the villages and stop for a tea or snack.
This was our last day in Bath Spa. We were unsure what to do, we found this tour on Trip Advisor. NO Regrets. Our guide Jules was amazing. He was intelligent, knowledgeable, affable, charming, engaging. He made our tour engaging, educational, and entertaining. I was sad when it ended. If I go back, I would take th9s tour again as it was so much fun.
Fun, quirky and highly informative day. Jules has a wealth of historical knowledge and very insightful perspective. Most unexpectedly enjoyable day I’ve had in years!
This adventure was a memorable tour hosted by a highly knowledgeable retired history teacher. Lots of wonderful historical information and enjoyable stories! Highly recommended! Thank you!
What an amazing day! Jules provided an interesting and well-rounded full-day tour. The first half was a trip to Stonehenge filled with history, theories behind the evolution of Stonehenge and interesting tidbits about the area. He then took us to some terrific little villages and hamlets that were quieter ... not overrun with tourists (just the way we like it). We visited a 15th century church, a palace and the ruins of a castle. Throughout it all, Jules was entertaining, informative and fun. At the end of the day, I forgot my coat and water bottle in his car. He took the time to drive all the way back to our hotel to personally deliver them to me. A+ for customer service. A+ for a wonderful day.
We did Stonehenge and Secret England tour in early June. Max was our tour guide. We were reaching Bath from London, he offered us to pick us up from the train station as we were reaching at 8.45 am and 9.00 am the tour starts. Max is very knowledgeable he can speak about the flora, fauna and history of the villages. Drive was very comfortable and you feel very relaxed enjoying the beautiful country side. After Stonehenge, we stopped for lunch charming inn at The Bath Arms for lunch, food was very good and the stroll afterwards was very beautiful. We also visited an mediaeval Church and castle ruin (Nunney Castle). If you are looking for a relaxed tour look no further.
We really enjoyed our day with Jules. He is passionate about history and made everything interesting and entertaining . I loved being taken to out of the way sites that aren’t on the standard tours and having lunch at a beautiful local pub. It was just a perfect day!
Not having to navigate, drive, and stand in long queues to visit Stonehenge and the countryside made for a very relaxing day. Max was engaging, fun, and very knowledgeable about the area. He is an excellent conversationist with the perfect balance of information and casual talk. In addition to Stonehenge, Max drove our group to several unique sites that we would not have seen on our own. We stopped for a wonderful lunch in the countryside. Plenty of photo opportunities. Highly recommend for family with teens or adults.
The highlight of our trip to England a few months ago. Jules is a fantastic guide. My wife and I took the tour with another couple. We were picked up in Bath, got acquainted and learned quite a bit on the way to Stonehenge, where we had a wonderful time. Lunch at a historic pub, then stops at St Andrew's Church in Mells and Nunney Castle. Look forward to doing their Cotswolds tour on our next trip to England.
What an amazing experience we had on the Stonehenge and Secret England tour. It was a highlight of our time in England. Max was our guide and it was like traveling with an old friend. We really enjoyed the personal tour of Stonehenge and an amazing lunch at a cozy pub with a roaring fire on a very cold day. After that we visited a gothic church and a interesting castle. It was a very special day and would highly recommend this tour to anyone.
We simply cannot say enough about HOW AMAZING this day was, and how spectacular Jules our guide was. He is fantastically knowledgable and engaging, treating us to a day full of historic intrigue, classic sites and a charming, relaxing and intimate meal at a local tasty spot. Jules is very personable, and made us feel "at home" while we toured around Somerset. He is quite adept at making history both accessible and relatable. Our day with Jules was filled with laughter, awe and appreciation for the beautiful countryside that is Somerset and Stonehenge. We are a couple on our honeymoon and were with a young family - and all of us were equally tickled by the whole day. Will 100% book again with In & Beyond Bath and any other tours that have Jules as their leader!
This was a fantastic tour of Stonehenge and surrounding area. Jules took our family of four out for a day we won’t soon forget! He was incredibly knowledgeable, both about Stonehenge but also the surrounding countryside. He took us to places off the beaten path we would never have found. Our stops spanned the very ancient (Stonehenge) medieval and recent history and he was well versed in all of these periods. He provided fascinating stories and historical context that made the landscape come alive. He was also very kind and patient with our two young children. Would highly recommend this tour!
Great experience. Jules was awesome and tailored the day to interests we had, including a traditional English pub and time in Lacock (my wife is a big Harry Potter fan). Highly recommend.
Our tour with Jules was amazing. We were able to see things we didn’t even know existed. He was knowledgeable, funny and tells a great story. I would highly recommend him and this tour company. We will use them again when back in the area!
Today we didn’t take part in a tour of Stonehenge and secret Somerset, we lived and breathed the history of the places we visited. A fascinating, enthralling day packed full of history, drama and emotionally vibrant story telling. We loved this tour. We would do it again tomorrow. A wonderfully unique experience delivered by a completely unique individual. Absolutely brilliant!
Amazingly interesting history lesson! We visited Stonehenge and areas off the beaten track including a pub lunch and afternoon tea.
We had an absolutely magical day touring Stonehenge and Somerset with Nigel. His passion for and knowledge of Stonehenge completely enhanced our experience of seeing it, and made the ride from Bath to Stonehenge go by in a flash. Nigel also took us to some very off-the-beaten path sites, including a gorgeous church and small castle in the village of Nunney, a place I am certain I never would have been to otherwise as an American tourist. He had fantastic anecdotes and information about each site and was an absolute joy to spend the day with. Very highly recommend this tour for those who want to have a genuine and personal experience. It was a whimsical adventure that I will cherish forever. Thank you Nigel and Around and About Bath!
We spent a wonderful day with Nigel experiencing Stonehenge, a beautiful castle and lovely villages of Somerset. Nigel picked us up on time, explained how the day would unfold and asked us for our input. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area and sites we visited and interesting to talk with. We stopped at two pubs, one for lunch and one for tea. Both were carefully selected with delicious food and charming surroundings.
My husband and I, along with our two adult sons booked this tour during a recent visit to the U.K. Our guide, Phoenix, was very knowledgeable and he made sure we had a wonderful experience. We toured Stonehenge in the morning and then toured the Countryside. We stopped at a lovely place for lunch, visited an old castle and made two other stops before returning to our hotel. I highly recommend this tour and our guide.
Phoenix and his assistant Mark were engaging and knowledgeable guides on this excellent tour of Stonehenge and the backroads of Somerset. After Stonehenge, we stopped for lunch in a 15th century inn in a tiny village, toured the ancient church next door, and then managed to fit in two castle ruins, a brief stop at a 14th century tavern, as well as a break for tea in a lovely walled garden. Somehow all this wasn’t frenetic, but made for a nicely paced and enjoyable day. I understand that they are flexible in picking different itineraries depending on conditions. Highly recommended.
Incredible experience for our whole family. Mike explained to us the company philosophy, which is the experience should feel like you know a friend who lives in the area, and they take you out to explore for the day. That is exactly what he delivered. He took us to Stonehenge and walked us through some of what is known about it, as well as some of the speculation, and he encouraged us to form our own ideas about why the people built it and what motivated them. It was a perfect balance of providing information while encouraging personal exploration and letting you experience and enjoy it on your own terms. He then took us to a small, quaint town where we had a wonderful lunch at a pub with the locals and explored a church and English garden. He also took us to a small castle with a hilarious history, but I don't want to say too much about that, as it might spoil it for anyone else who has the experience. This was so far off the usual touristy beaten path, it was incredibly relaxing, but it made us feel much more personally connected to the wonderful people and their history. Along the way we talked about music, our travels to other places and many other things. Mike has spent time all over the world, but he grew up just a stone's throw from Stonehenge, so he really knew how to enjoy travel and help us do the same while in his back yard. My kids loved the experience as much as my wife and I did, and I'd encourage anyone to give this great little boutique travel company a try.
Mike picked us up exactly on time for our tour, and we had a perfect day. He is an experienced guide and knew how to give us just the right mix of guided activities and free time. It didn’t hurt that the day was sunny and beautiful. Mike picked a route for the drive that provided nice views of the countryside, and because he grew up in the area, he was able to give us a real sense of the place. All throughout the day, we never got tired, because he gave us plenty of time to enjoy a coffee when we wanted. He attended to our every need, including timely restroom stops. Stonehenge is awe-inspiring and mysterious, and I am so glad we decided to take this tour rather then trying to see it on our own. Would definitely recommend this tour.
We knew we were going to Stonehenge but had no idea where else we were going. Nigel helped us to discover some fascinating spots in North Somerset, with much food for thought and further research. We felt very safely driven, the pace of the activities was excellent for four oldies, and the extra delight came from the unexpected discoveries around the small villages we visited. Nigel is very knowledgeable and entertaining. We enjoyed the locales for lunch and afternoon tea and returned to Bath feeling pleasantly tired but deeply valuing the experience. Thank you!
My husband and I embarked on this tour with Nigel our tour guide and one other attendee a lovely lady from Colorado. Nigel was funny and bright and was able to share a bounty of information about the areas we explored in a clear and engaging way. This was the first of two tours we took with Around and About Bath in as many days ad we are so fortunate to be able to do so. I learned a ton and had a great time in the process. Thank you!
I signed for a small group tour which ended up being very small, - just me. Nigel, my guide, explained it was unusual to not have more but they wouldn’t cancel because there was only one person. Right away I knew the group had integrity. Thus began one of the best days I’ve ever had while traveling. Nigel was an excellent guide and the weather couldn’t have been better. When we arrived at Stonehenge the site was enveloped in fog and set the mood for easily imaging prehistoric people moving about the stones. As the sun came out the fog burned off and the stones really stood out. Then it was out and touring about Somerset. My thanks again to Nigel for a glorious, unforgettable day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our full-day tour of Stonehenge and the Somerset countryside. In addition to being an excellent small-group experience, the pacing of the tour was perfect. We didn't feel rushed from place to place -- the leisurely pace felt in-line with the tranquility of the countryside, and contributed to our ability to just immerse and appreciate every place we visited. Irina was our guide for the day and she was an excellent host. She was engaging and very good about explaining the background of the places we visited, answering questions and then giving us time to explore on our own. We learned a lot about the area and very much felt well taken care of throughout the day. Overall, this tour was the highlight of our trip to Bath. We look forward to exploring more areas with Around and About Bath the next time we visit!
What a lovely day with Nigel, who knows so much about local and English history and pre-history and who has extensive knowledge of the area’s less travelled spots, who loves to meet new people and learn from them, and who is so easy to spend time with. It was fascinating to hear some additional angles about Stonehenge (there are loads of them and they are intriguing!), and then to drive through the back roads of Somerset to visit several hidden gems as well as to eat well (all food was included) and enjoy excellent company. A great day overall! (PS—a gluten intolerance was also dealt with with no drama whatsoever, much appreciated.) I will also add that a snafu caused by the Bath Visitor Centre, the day prior to my trip, was resolved promptly by the company owner Jules who was responsive, apologetic (even though it was not at all his fault), and creative, offering me two potential solutions to my dilemma. This is clearly a small caringly-run business that really deserves to be a serious contender in the day trip market.
I was lucky to join Around & About team. The trip was to Stonehenge and Somerset Secrets. Samm, the tour guide, knows so much about the area and the secrets tour was definitely worth it. She was so down to earth and personalized the tour to my liking. If you have one day in Bath, make sure to do the tour with these guys. More than just a tour.
I knew I was going to love hearing more about Stonehenge from an ex History teacher who engages and inspires with his passion for the past. What I wasn't expecting was the little surprises, the aha moments, and the fantastic story telling which made this a truly memorable tour. This was a first class tour and I thoroughly recommend it.

Jules was amazing, informative and engaging! Small Group was perfect-met two new friends (Pauline and Tony)! It was spectacular to see authentic English towns instead of the commercialized areas. Really enjoyed!! In fact this was one of our favorite parts of our entire trip!! Highly recommend!!

Jules was an excellent informative and friendly guy. The trip was so much more than we expected. Small group made the day even better.
