Macdonald Bath Spa

Generally a nice stay with a few points that need addressing. The hotel upon arrival is beautiful. Very grand with lovely grounds. The inside did not disappoint either very nice. We didn’t get the chance to use the spa facilities but it did look lovely. We booked a one night stay in a deluxe double room (219) Check in was nice and easy. Room was a good size and so was the bathroom. Bed was very comfortable and the sheets were nice and clean. The tv in the room is awful and needs updating very old and most of the channels were scrambling. The bathroom needs a bit of attention cleaning wise the over flow plug on the bath has a very big black build up of dirt and so did the shower screen in the corners it’s not hard to clean this also the grout needs redoing as black with dirt. Also the walls in the room need a good wipe down as are very stained in places. Very easy basic cleaning that needs addressing, as letting the room. Breakfast very nice big selection. Staff very good but busy so did miss a few requests was sitting for a long time without tea or coffee but the dining room was pretty full so this is understandable. Overall a good stay probably would return as other than the room issues the hotel itself is beautiful.

For a 5 star hotel we where greatly dissatisfied. We arrived at 7:30 pm after a long journey at wanted to use the spa facilities. The man running the spa desk was incredibly rude, refusing to let us in with our bags, even upon mentioning he was being rude no apology was given. Multiple breakfast trays where left in the hallway of our floor, and had been sitting in the heat all day, the smell was quite intense. Robe ties littered on the stairs. The rooms have no phones to call the front desk, so for international travelers it's not ideal. The bar food was missing items from the dishes, and was certainly not generous portion wise, I was denied an afternoon tea at 9:30 pm even though the menu states it's served until 10. And we where only late because the spa guy refused us entry. Awful beakfast, staff where helpful to go and retrieve the missing items, but absolutely appalling time wise, my toast arrived 20 minutes after my breakfast and tables where not correctly set attention to detail for a 5 star is slacking. The milk at breakfast in a big dispenser was off, I got a mouthful of sour milk which was not pleasant. The staff where kind when I gave them this feedback but not much was done, guarantee of fixing the issues was given and I hope the experience is better for other guests. The bar at least had a fantastic wine selection. But a premier inn would actually have been preferable we are so disappointed.

Most of the staff were really good and helpful. Room cleaning really needs to improve. We had quite a lot of hair on the bathroom floor, plastic was lying around and the floor lots of dust on the top shelf and water. The building itself has seen it's best days. Now it's like a three star hotel in the substance of a former five star location. It the cheeps man five star experience. There is mold in the showers. Tiles are broken or missing in the pool. A shower in the spa area wasn't working and lots of further small details that would make renovation necessary. Location is great though. The city can easily be accessed by foot

The location was excellent, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The building itself is beautiful and full of character, although it could benefit from better maintenance. The outdoor hydro pool was a little smaller than expected, and the surrounding area felt quite limited. We had booked a three-course dinner and were disappointed by the long wait between courses, but the food was delicious and well worth enjoying once it arrived. The gardens are lovely, and the hotel is conveniently located next to a beautiful park, making it a great place for a relaxing walk. A special thank you to Rebeka at reception, who was exceptionally friendly, kind, and helpful throughout our stay. Dimitrii, the restaurant manager, also provided warm and attentive service. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and enjoyed our visit. With a few improvements to the facilities and service timing, the experience could be even better.
