We stayed here while walking the Thames path. The rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. And Mark the host was lovely with lots of local tips. We also had a delicious and filling curry.

We were fortunate to stumble across this gem of a place to stay in Criklade owned by a very vivacious gentleman named Mark. Mark made us feel so comfortable in his establishment even giving us a guided tour through out the entire hotel with parts of it under renovation. We stay in a wonderful 16th century room that had been beautifully renovated. Top marks for Mark !! He has nailed hospitality to a tee. Thanks for having us Mark. Regards Sally and Steve.
We were very pleased to arrive after a long day of walking, the friendly staff gave us a warm welcome and made our stay very enjoyable. After a hot shower and refresh, they accommodated us in the restaurant with refreshing pints and delicious curries (panner butter & goat curry) yummy brownie to finish! Rooms were comfortable and great for a relaxing evening. I recommend this stay for any Thames path walkers :)
From the moment we arrived at The Vale Hotel, we were made to feel completely at home by the wonderful young owners. Their warmth and genuine hospitality set the tone for a perfect stay. Our room was absolutely gorgeous—beautifully designed, spotless, and incredibly comfortable. Every facility was impeccable, clearly cared for with pride and attention to detail. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience, and we will definitely be returning. A truly fantastic stay from start to finish!
Stopped at The Vale Hotel in Cricklade on Sat 20 September ‘25. Mark checked us in very efficiently and showed us to our room - we’d been upgraded to a superior room which was a lovely surprise! After having drink at the bar, we ordered the cauliflower fritters followed by the goat and fish curries which we shared. Wow wow wow! Best curries we’ve had in a long time. So fresh and so tasty, we really can’t recommend the curries highly enough. The goat was exceptional and rich whilst the fish was cooked in coconut milk and was more of a Thai style but both complimented each other perfectly. We also ordered a kachumbari salad (tomatoes red onion and corriander) which was also amazing. Overall our experience from checking in with Mark, who is a really friendly personable chap, to eating quite frankly one of the best curries we’ve had has been exceptional. Would thoroughly recommend if you’re ever in the Cricklade/Cirencester area. We also brought our cocker spaniel who is loving the experience (and the goat curry!) as well 😆👍
