Itinerary
Our most popular trips from Bariloche take us to Limay River, Manso river or Pichi Leufu river in the heart of the Nahuel Huapi National Park. These trips are an excellent way to experience Patagonia wilderness. The driving distance is about 45min. The usual itinerary is that we pick-up our guests from their hotel round 8.30am, our boats are launched followed by intense fishing until noon. Pending on location, the brake during the midday may vary, but if the bite is hot we of course fish as hard as the guest requires. A full lunch, beverages and some excellent Argentine Malbec wines is done on shady spot along the shore. Our trips vary from 8 to10 hours of fishing time, including transportation. However if the bite is on, we will fish longer at our guests request, without an extra charge. We can handle individuals up to groups of 8. Our team is serious fishermen, taking no greater pleasure then to maximize the fishing experience of our guests! The extraordinary fishing locations. Outfitters Patagonia is based in San Carlos de Bariloche which is located in the middle of the Nahuel Huapi National Park. We operate on perhaps one of the broadest selections of premier trout fisheries in the Patagonia Argentina! Wild rainbows, browns and brookies, all reside within the incredible river systems of National Parks and legendary rivers. We can customize your trip according to your special requests or needs like fishing and casting, transportation, meals & beverages, etc. Our trips includes: • Transportation from hotel to fishing sites • Boats when required • One bilingual guide per 2 anglers • Full lunch and beverages • All necessary fishing gear • Advance pre-trip information Doesn't include: • Fishing licenses • Gratuities After booking a trip we will send you a comprehensive information pack and a check list, to be sure you arrive with everything you will really need.

I highly recommend Outfitters Patagonia. The owner, Martin, is super quick to respond and he was very knowledgeable and helpful. We fished 2 full days on the Limay River with Nahuel. Nahuel was an excellent guide and just really nice person. He got us on fish quickly and we caught a lot of fish through out the day. The Limay is a fish factory with perfect habitat for trout. In addition to catching lots of Rainbows and Browns, we were treated to an amazing lunch of ribeye steaks, Malbec wine, a charcuterie board, red table cloth and dessert! We’re very happy with Outfitters Patagonia and would not hesitate to book them again. Thanks Martin and Nahuel for two wonderful days on the Limay!
We had the best day out! Juan was an incredible guide, and the fishing was amazing. Riverside lunch was a real treat, as well :) Cannot recommend highly enough - this was our favorite day in Patagonia!
Outstanding trip nothing short of spectacular, many thanks to the Outfitters Patagonia team. A huge thank you to our guide, Juan, whose local expertise was incredible. He put us on some outstanding brown trout and shared insights only a local would know. Martin handled logistics promptly and flawlessly, making the entire journey seamless and stress-free. Our overnight camp hosts—German, Nahuel, and Toby—went above and beyond. We felt like family and were treated to unique local food. If you want world-class fishing, authentic culture, and top-tier hospitality, this is the crew to book with. Thank you!
A dream come true. Great lunch. Big fish. Thank you Reno and the whole team for a day ai will never forget.
10/10 recommend this to anyone looking for a great fly fishing trip. Great guides and food
8 days’ fishing with Outfitters - 3 days Collon Cura camping + 2 days Limay for trout; 3 days Parana in Arroyo Seco (Santa Fe) for Golden Dorado. What a fantastic experience. The best guides who all knew the rivers so well. Quantity on the Collon Cura; quality on the Limay; crazy mad dorados on the Parana. Great fishing, perfect variety, stunning scenery, wonderful team - it could not have been better. Plus Annie is the best cook in Argentina.
My partner and I went on the Full Day Fly Fishing excursion with Outfitters Patagonia. It was an incredible experience made even better by a knowledgeable and engaging guide in Renzo. The beautiful Limay river, plentiful trout to catch, and afternoon lunch on the water all made this a once in a lifetime trip. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting the Bariloche region!
There were 3 couples in 3 boats with German, Nahuel and Sebastian. What a fantastic day we had along the Limay River. German was our guide and was friendly, patient, (as I had never fly-fished before), and extremely helpful teaching technique, and sharing pointers. We stopped for a lovely lunch mid-day and appreciated the hotel pick-up and drop-off service. Everything was exactly as described on Trip Advisor. If you have the chance, book Outfitters Patagonia!
We had an incredible experience with Outfitters Patagonia on a recent family fly fishing trip on the Limay River. There were six of us, all somewhat new to fly fishing, and we were paired with three fantastic guides who made the day both fun and approachable. They were patient, knowledgeable, and truly made sure everyone felt comfortable and engaged. The day was super fun from start to finish and an overall great experience for our whole family. Martin was especially helpful as he was super responsive with all of my pre-booking questions, handled the reservation smoothly, and made the day of coordination easy and stress-free. My family absolutely loved it, and I would highly recommend Outfitters Patagonia to anyone looking for a memorable and well-run fly fishing experience while in Barliloche. Great job Martin & Outfitters Patagonia!!!!!
Drifting along the Rio Limay and using different techniques to catch fish was a wonderful experience. It is certainly worth doing two days.
All aspects of my trip with Outfitters Patagonia were top notch. Starting with the prompt and helpful correspondence with Martin which made the all booking and logistics a breeze. Then my solo fishing trip with my guide Juan, who has outsanding knowledge of the river and placed us in perfect positions to catch the strong Patagonian trout. He rotated from streamers to drys and back several times as dictated by the river and nature resulting in plenty of catches of rainbows and browns on both setups throughout the day. We fished the Limay River which itself is magical it truly has crystal clear water and it changes character around every bend. We also stopped for a quick shore lunch consisting of a nice steak and a Malbec. A nice upgrade above my typical lunch when fishing. I highly recommend booking a trip with Outfitters Patagonia. It's a trip that I will remember for a long time.
We were looking for a Float / Camp / Fish experience while travelling Argentina and Chile. Following some online research on what was available in the Bariloche area - I contacted Martin from Outfitters Patagonia. Martin replied the same day to my enquiries and was so helpful and responsive throughout the whole process including making bank transfer payments in advance. We booked a 3 day / 2 night fly fishing adventure. I am a passionate fly angler while my wife is a reluctant angler but likes to have a go now and again! We were collected from our hotel just outside Bariloche at 8am prompt. A 4WD with 2 large inflatables on a trailer. I presumed would would head locally to the River Limay just out side of town. Instead we drove nearly 200 kms to the Rio Collon Cura. Not what we initially expected but apparently the fishing pressure and lack of number of anglers would make a better fishing experience. 3 1/2 hours later we were unloading and tackling up. We set off fishing and floating while the 2nd boat passed us to head on down and set up camp. We settled in to fishing in a way we’d not tried previously, on a moving boat. Our Guide, Juan, was patient and very knowledgeable. He knew where the fish would be and the method to use at each spot. My wife was first to catch, a lovely wild Rainbow, then, much to my frustration she had a second fish! Casting can prove difficult with the Patagonian wind coming from behind while you’re in the back of the boat and I inadvertently hooked Juan right through his ear! I felt absolutely terrible! In all my years of fishing I’d never done anything like this. We took some pictures so Juan could see what was going on. With that he pushed the hook on through, I clipped off the barb and he pulled it back out. We pulled up to a bank where Juan hauled a large cool box out and set up the most amazing lunch, of salads, potatoes and other delights including Beer and Malbec!! After lunch we floated and fished on Until we reached camp! Gin and Tonics were ready with ICE! In the middle of nowhere!! We were treated to the most amazing dinner and bank fished until dark taking Rainbows on dry flies. We retired to our tent which had been set up for us and slept like logs! Next morning I woke early and the fish were already rising so grab the rod and another nice Rainbow before breakfast. Breakfast began with cereal, fruit then bacon and eggs then off we go again! A whole days fishing the Collon Cura river. The fishing was absolutely fantastic with both of us catching well all day. The day was topped off by an amazing Brown trout that Juan put me on. By 4pm the Patagonian winds had got up and we headed for camp which was a repe of the previous evening with amazing Chicken Milanese as the main course and of course lots of Malbec! Day 3 and it was my turn to hook myself, again Juan took over and soon the hook was out. The day was sunny and the Mayfly hatches were the most incredible thing I have ever witnessed as a fly angler. The fish were rising every where, Juan steered us to a lovely side channel where we fished dry’s until lunch time….more Malbec!! Finally we floated back to the pick up point where the 4WD was waiting and the boats were loaded and the long drive back to Bariloche. A thoroughly enjoyable, memorable experience with a very professional outfitters company. I would recommend Outfitters Patagonia for your Argentinian fishing adventures.
Martin from the start was fabulous in handling logistics and communicating, creating our itinerary and answering our million questions. German, our guide was just as passionate about us catching fish as we were. Patient, happy, fun person to fish with & learn from. A world class professional that we got to spend a week learning from and benefiting from his insane understanding of very fish hold and current in the rivers. Further, Renzo, Nahuel & Agustin also made sure that our trip was the very best it could be. My dad is 82 and they took extra special care to make sure he was safe, comfortable and catching more fish than we ever imagined. They also made special menus for us as vegans! Outfitters Patagonia is the real deal. If you want the fly fishing experience of a lifetime: YOU’VE FOUND IT! LOOK NO FURTHER!!
Martin runs a first class operation right from the get go. On planning the trip, he was extremely responsive and usually responded within the hour if not day on questions we had and what we wanted out of our trip. From the way he communicated, I knew he was running a tight operation. We booked 2 separate overnight trips with his company, one on the Collon Cora and one on the Limay. Two totally different rivers and glad we had the chance to experience both. The arrangements were just as advertised. Prompt pick up, professional guides, all the details thought of. The overnight trips were awesome. Rods and flies were included as well as expert guides and rowers for our boats. When we arrived at lunch, a table and chairs were quickly set up with delicious food and a bottle of Malbec with each lunch. When we arrived at camp each night, our tents with cots and sleeping bags were already set up, which allowed us time to relax. Food was incredible. We had french fries for dinner one night to accompany our steak!. We fished in March and mainly using streamers. The Collon Cora was beautiful and had plenty of aggressive trout to catch. Over the three days, we must have covered almost 30 miles of river. The Limay river was absolutely gorgeous. We floated through the amphitheater section and with the changing leaves, the scenery was breathtaking with gin clear water. The fishing was slower, but we caught several fish of a lifetime for our family. We don't usually return to a location just because there are so many other places to see, but we are seriously considering returning to Bariloche to fish with Martin and his crew again a following year. I wouldn't hesitate to book with him again. Well done to you and your crew, Martin.
Everything from start to finish was incredible. My guide Nahuel was amazing and very knowledgeable and made the trip a dream come true. This was an unforgettable experience and highly recommend!
I would have to say, my days fly fishing with Pedro was one of my favorite guided fishing experiences ever! The combination of hospitality and warmth, beautiful scenery, local knowledge of the area and gorgeous fish while breaking for a gastronomic picnic was truly first class! Pedro and Martin have an absolute passion for fly fishing and food and created a streamside dining experience with hammock set up after lunch — absolute heaven. The local knowledge that Pedro shared, the genuine laughs and all the fish that we landed… I will never forget. I can’t imagine how my day could have been better and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Had one do the best trips and these guys are true professionals !
This is our 7th year fishing with Outfitters Patagonia and I think our 3rd year having German as our guide for the 3 days. Between Martin and German the 3 days always are organized and executed to perfection. German was always punctual, the car was always well maintained and the fishing gear provided was of a high quality, he gave the right amount of advise and encouragement. He is also a marvelous cook, lunches were first rate, how many guides lay a table with a tablecloth etc before starting to prepare a superb lunch. My wife really enjoyed the encouragement that she received from German and this year caught more trout than the previous 6 years. Her casting is improving, especially given that we fish very little for the rest of the year. Nobody can guarantee that you catch but German puts 110% effort to get you to spots were you have the best possible chance. I suppose bottom line my absolute confidence in Martin and German is shown by the fact that next year is already booked. Thank you Martin and German for organising a perfect 3 days of fly fishing. Till next year.
My wife and I love to fly fish, but the concept of gong all the way to Patagonia was a bit daunting. Thanks to Martin, everything was perfect! He was there with immediate answers to all my pre-trip questions, and took care of every detail of the logistics. We fished 4 fantastic days with guide Juan, and he was the best. Fishing in Patagonia is a dream-come-true. Amazing fishing, breath-taking scenery, and gourmet stream-side lunches (yes you do have grilled steak and Malbec wine on a well-set table) only add to friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced service provided by the guides. The bonus is you also get to stay in a hotel of your choice in beautiful Bariloche and have your pick of gourmet restaurants and the beautiful lakes and mountains. We 100% recommend Outfitters Patagonia, and can't wait to return!!
Flying down from the States, we were lucky enough to spend six days fishing with Outfitters Patagonia. Starting nearly a year out, the planning and communication from owner Martin was fantastic. Half-day, full-day and overnight trips were offered and each possible type of trip and body of water was explained in detail, allowing us to select what we wanted to do. We chose to do a three-day overnight trip and three day-trips to different rivers and lakes. Martin coordinated our pickup from the airport and assisted us with hotel options while staying in Bariloche. After exploring town for two days, we were picked up at 8am by our guide, Juan, in front of the hotel. We spent the next three days and two nights on the Collon Cura river, two hours north of Bariloche. The camp crew (Renzo and Gus) went out of their way to make each night camping wonderful. They made and brought drinks, made hot breakfast and dinner, and truly acted like part of the group, on top of rowing downstream ahead of us to setup the next camp. Breakfast was at 8am each morning and dinner was around 8pm. Each pair of fishermen share a very large six-person tent with cots and blow-up sleeping pads, small pillow included. While on the water, Juan was fantastic. We threw streamers and dry flies the entire week. We hooked into a large amount of fish with a great average size (including some monsters) each day. Juan prepared lunch and snacks around 1pm each day, a meal that would put guides in the United States to shame. Meals ranged from charcuterie and sandwiches to steaks and chicken. The food was very memorable. On top of the great fishing guide work, Juan was an excellent tour guide on the drives to each location. As anyone who has fished on guided trips before, the trip is made depending on the ability of the guide…Juan is something special. Between the communication, great meals, fun camping, amazing day trips to stunning landscapes, and great people, I would not hesitate to fly the long way to fish with Outdoors Patagonia again.
This was my fourth trip with Outfitters Patagonia and again it was a great success. I arrived with high expectations, having had three previous trips with excellent guiding, good hospitality and amazing fishing. When I say amazing fishing, I mean that on each of these trips (typically 5 days each trip) I took between 50 and 85 (maximum) trout, with a mixture of rainbows (mostly) and browns. My biggest fish have come from the Limay river, up to 6 &1/2 pounds with a few more in the 4 to 6 pound range, the most prolific fishing has been on the Manso river (typically smaller fish but very strong fish). Having fished a lot in various counties i know that the guide and the outfitter company make up at least half of your success and I have no hesitation in recommending Outfitters Patagonia. Their back office admin is very efficient, the kit supplied is always top quality (Orvis) and the guides work hard for you, never hesitating to change a fly if things ho quiet and rowing almost all day against the fast current in these two rivers. What a great experience; i give them 10/10!
Top notch guide service in San Carlos de Bariloche. Everything was incredible. Martin the owner was great. Excellent communication and very easy to work with. We did a full day float trip on Rio Limay and it did not disappoint. Our guide, Renzo, worked his butt off rowing in high water to put us on fish. I have been guiding in the United States for 10+ years and would recommend their services to anyone! Muchas gracias!
These guys are the best!!! Just came off a two night camp-fish trip in the Caleufu which is an experience of a lifetime. The scenery, the fishing and people are amazing. These guides take care of your every every need. They are so service oriented, want nothing other than for you to have a great experience short of putting a giant trout on your hook (that’s illegal - LOL). We learned about the region, the people, how to improve our fishing and build bonds with others. I cannot give a higher endorsement to Martin and German for their efforts to give us a 5 star experience!!
My friend and I fished two days with Germán the second week of November. We’ve both fished with many guides in many places around the world and agreed that he was an excellent guide and good company for a couple of days on the water. The spring flood had the rivers running fast and high but Germán worked hard and found fish. He was also an excellent cook and our two riverside lunches were outstanding. Long before we got to Argentina, Martin at Outfitters Patagonia was very responsive and helpful and made sure that we were all set. He communicated everything clearly, accurately , and timely. Everything worked and happened the way it was planned. All in all it was a great two days. My only regret is that we had to leave instead of fishing a couple more days.
We did a 3 day float on the Rio Collon Cura with Outfitters Patagonia. German, Juan, Lucas, Reno, and Naheul were amazing guides and camp organizer/chefs! The fishing was fantastic and the scenery was spectacular. The men mentioned above made this trip extremely memorable and they were nothing but gracious, patient, knowledgeable, hosts/guides. We had a blast and already talking about when to return.
Amazing time!!!! My husband and I went fishing with German in October. Every detail was so well thought out. From picking us up from our hotel to boating us around, teaching us everything we needed to know, a fabulous sit down lunch, and just wonderful conversation. I won’t forget this experience. If you are thinking about doing it DO IT. You are in a beautiful place with wonderful company.
Beyond impressed with Outfitters Patagonia! Their fly-fishing trips in Bariloche are world-class. The guides were incredibly patient and helpful, and we are beginners and caught several wild trout’s, more than thought possible. The scenery is simply stunning, and the overall experience was top-notch. If you´re looking for an authentic Patagonian fly fishing adventure, this is the company to book with.
Last April we had the most amazing fly fishing trip of my life with Outfitters Patagonia in Bariloche. The guide were expert, and the equipment was top-notch. We caught many Brown Trout including a trophy of 8lbs. The food was delicious, and had a blast exploring the stunning Patagonian landscape. Highly recommend this company for an unforgettable adventure!
I interviewed a number of people in planning this 5 day fishing trip for me and my two sons, ages 20 and 24. They are both experienced fly-fishermen. We ended up choosing to do 3 days on a camping and fishing trip on the Collon Cura river and then spent the final two days doing a trips on the Limay, staying at a hotel in Bariloche. This turned out to be a wonderful trip for us. For starters, the first three days saw us catch about 100 fish on the fly. See the pictures for a few of them. In addition to the breathtaking scenery, and the great weather, our guides were truly world class and the camp and support team were fantastic. Our guides Juan and German put us on fish all day long as they worked the river tirelessly. The end of each day had us pulling into a camp that was set up with drinks and appetizers that preceded a delicious grilled meal served with a bottle or two of a Malbec. We might have had a bottle at lunch also. There were no bad wines. Not sure I had a subpar bottle in my time in Argentina. Thank you for the camp set up, Renzo and Gusti! My boys said they felt like princes in a scene in the Game of Thrones. But back to the fishing - definitely worth the trip. I have done a number of trips to Alaska and Canada and the Bahamas. This was as well run and productive as any of them. We spent the last two days chasing the trophies on the Limay, which is one of the prettiest rivers I have had the pleasure of fishing. We had some good follows by some big fish but didn’t connect. Thank you for the guiding there Juan and Sebastian. We were a little early in terms of the migration on March 19 and 20. I would look to land solidly in the last week of March or into April if you are targeting the trophy browns. But as you can see we did fine on the Cullen Cura. I would highly advise doing the camping if you are able. I would be happy to connect with you by phone through Martin if you have specific questions about either trip or your stay in Bariloche, which is spectacular on its own. And a last shout out to Martin. Martin was always available and always followed through on everything he said he would do. He is fantastic and happy to talk to you about how you might structure your trip. Thank you for the great trip and memories Martin and team! Michael
I did two separate trips with Outfitter’s Patagonia and both were excellent. We fished the Collon Cura for four days and really enjoyed the combined fishing and camping experience. We caught lots of fish ( rainbow, brown and even a few perch). Great guides and comfortable cots and tents for overnight. The food and wine were delicious. I also booked a one day fishing trip on the Lemay and our guide brought rods for streaming and nymphing. I had 4 guides in total and all were so friendly and knowledgeable. No tangled line or missing fly was ever a problem. We had a variety of experience levels with fly fishing and the guides made it work for all of us, and were very pleasant and helpful the whole time. Martin was incredibly helpful before the trip answering all our questions (of which there were many)). He was also very pleasant and helpful post trip. I am already planning our trip back and would highly recommend this outfitter!
This was a fantastic experience. Our guide, Sebastian, was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient—and a wonderful cook. They have everything you need, just show up with appropriate clothing for the conditions and you are set. While I have fished my whole life, this was my first time on a fly setup and my wife’s first time freshwater fishing, or close to it, period. Seba had us both up and running in no time. I ended up landing three trout (one tiny rainbow and one rainbow and one brown maybe 2lbs each). Will never forget my first fish on the fly, fun fights and beautiful fish. My wife had several bites and loved the experience as well—Limay itself is a beautiful river and landscape worth seeing from the boat. Only downside is I might be addicted to fly fishing now.
Had a great time on the Limay River. We did the 3 Day / 2 Night camping trip and the only thing I can complain about is the fact the fish weren't moving as much as I would have liked. We still caught fish and our guide made sure we did! The team took great care of us and cant wait to do it again!
This was our favorite activity/excursion we have ever done, and we’ve been a lot of places and done some pretty cool things. We have done several full day fly fishing trips in the western US including Alaska, but this experience cannot be beat. Just book this experience. From start to finish, everything is excellent. Communication, guides, food, location, there is not a single thing less than perfection. I’ve been talking to Martin for years since we had to postpone our South America trip three times due to COVID and country restrictions. It was certainly worth the wait. Martin was very friendly, accommodating, and understood why we needed to delay our trip. Communication was always very clear. We did the 2 day trip with an overnight camp. Besides our guides, we didn’t see anyone for those 2 days! It was unreal. In the states, we always see other people fishing but not here. My husband and I caught dozens of fish over our two days. The food and camp setup is worthy of its own post. The picnic lunch the first day set the stage for what was to come and it only got better. After fishing all day, we arrived at camp to see a whole chicken on the grill as well as appetizers, baked potatoes, and plenty of beverage options. All the food was amazing!! Camp was spaced out, and our tent was quite cozy with raised cots and nice sleeping bags. Breakfast the next day blew us away as well, and we caught even more fish on day 2. This review will never give the experience justice. Just book it. You won’t regret it.
marvelous team work with the guides. they all love fishing and work together to make things easy for camping and fishing. German met us at the airport and we immediately felt comfortable with the plans and had after a walk in town he picked us up for a memorable first dinner at El Bostiche del Alberto - great evening. Sebastian and Renzo made it a seamless camping, cooking and wine experience. Lucas is a very knowledgeable fisherman with a good sense of humor: As I told Juan - after a few days it was like fishing with a good friend. Except that this friend knows a lot more than most. Juan has in depth knowledge of the fish and fauna we encountered on the rivers.
This is the 6th year that I have used Outfitters Patagonia, Martin organizes everything to perfection. This year our guide was German, an absolute joy to pass 3 days with him. He has all the qualities that are needed to be a professional guide, he is punctual, very friendly (it is like going fishing with an old friend), does everything possible to put you in a position to catch fine trout, plus he is an excellent cook (lunches were exceptional). This year a had the good fortune of catching a medium sized brown plus a brown of about 5kgs. I would thoroughly recommend Outfitters Patagonia, and what better recommendation can I give than I have already reserved my 3 days for 2025!
The week before Christmas our group fished for a week with Outfitters Patagonia. We fished several rivers and lakes. Rio Limay, Rio Manso, Lake Hess and Rio Caleufu were all outstanding water to fish. Martin Freeman helped us plan the trip and then excellent guides German and Juan took care of us for the week. The fishing was outstanding and the guides knew how to get us on fish. Camp was run superbly by Sabastian and Renzo. We combined a three day float on the Rio Caleufu with day trips based out of Bariloche. Every day brought new water and new highlights to the trip. Everyone in our group agreed the trip exceeded all of our expectations!
We had a wonderful day on the Limay River with guide Juan. Not only is he an expert fishing guide, he is an aquatic biologist and very knowledgeable about the river ecosystem, and the birds and plants along the river. Highly recommended!
I had an incredible day of fishing on the river with my excellent guide Sebastian, who put me in the right location, with the right techniques to catch Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and local Perch. Fun, friendly and patient, he also cooked up an amazing riverside lunch with steak, salad and wine. He was happy to take pictures of all my catches, and we talked and joked all day long. This was money well spent, and was definitely one of the highlights of my two month trip to Argentina. I would absolutely recommend this guide service.
We did a full day trip with our family of four (kids age 18 and 15). We were a little nervous because we had very little fly fishing experience but we had the BEST time. We learned to roll cast and straight cast and caught a lot of rainbow and brown trout. Our guides, Juan and German, were terrific! We also had a delicious lunch and gorgeous views. Definitely would do this again and HIGHLY recommend the is experience for any family!!!
My wife and I were treated to 2 days of fly fishing on the Limay and Manso Rivers near San Carlos de Bariloche. Our guide German was excellent and very patient, especially with my wife Cookie who was fly fishing for the first time. We caught brown and rainbow trout using streamers and dry flies. One of the nice perks from our trip was the food that was cooked by German along the stream topped off with a bottle of Malbec wine. We were treated to alfajores providied by German. He provided us with door to door transportation at the apartment where we stayed. The area around Bariloche is absolutely. We saw snow-capped mountains from the Andes and rainbows over the Nahuel Huapi Lake. We're ready to go back again.
I can’t recommend this company enough. I’ve done guided trips on the Kenai and this was totally different. Our guide, Juan, was a biologist who knew everything about the river, fish and wildlife on the river. The conditions were tough, windy, but we caught fish all day. We camped out for two days and felt like we are in a fine hotel. Lunch on the river with beautiful Argentine wines, appetizers when we got off, dinners I can’t recommend them enough. Juan even had to pull a hook buried deep in my wrist. Argentina is exactly as perfect as you think and this company can show you the best of it.
Just returned from the most fabulous fly fishing trip I have ever been on. Martin picked us up from the airport, and then we were on the Limay river for 3 nights and 4 days. The guides were very knowlegable, and friendly. The food was supurb as were the tent facilities. I would not use any other group other than OIutfitters Patagonia. Also the fish were HUGE!!!!
Martin and his team are first class. The friendliness, customer service, and professionalism are the best I have experienced on an all-inclusive guided fishing trip... and I've been on quite a few. We did a three night/four day camping trip and then two day trips (staying at a beautiful perfect waterfront hotel). The 'camping' was glamping - large tents, cots and air mattresses, etc. And it was all set up and waiting for us after a long day of fishing. After hors d'oeuvres and plentiful adult beverages, the in-camp chef provided amazing meals. And Argentinian wine was always on the table. In the morning, we were treated to a full hot breakfast before heading back onto the river... the crew took care of packing up everything and leap frogged us during the day to set up the next glamping site. Oh, and the lunches on the river were almost as good as in camp - table cloths, wine, etc. I would give the fishing maybe 3.5 stars... BUT, we were late in the season and it was our first time ever chunking big streamers all day long for trophy trout. It is a trophy fishing trip - at least ours was - and the possibility of true monster trout (ten pounders) exists. We did catch a couple 3-4 pounders and one 5+, but the numbers and size of fish relative to four decent fishermen continuously fishing for 8-10 hours a day was less than I expected. This has nothing to do with the enthusiasm and expertise of the guides, and more to do with 'fish being fish' and the late part of the season (and probably our unfamiliarity with dragging big streamers in deep fast water all day long). If I were to go back, it would be in December or January. What sets Outfitters Patagonia apart from others is the genuine friendliness and personableness of Martin and his guides and crew. From even before we officially booked, Martin was easily and promptly accessible, answering any and all questions and making the often complex process of airplane tickets, licenses, international payments etc., very easy. Once on the ground, he 'held our hand' from the airport to the river. He took us to the best restaurants in town (always staying with us and helping us sort through the menu and engaging in enthusiastic conversation), completely sorted out the hotel, and catered to our every request. His English is as good as ours and his business is professional in all aspects. His guides even took us to an 'off the tourist path' gaucho store on the way back from the river one day so we could buy authentic souvenirs. For us at least, an Argentinian trout expedition was a once in a lifetime bucket list event, and I am certainly glad I found an outfitter like Outfitters Patagonia.
After hearing about Outfitters Patagonia from some good friends who have done this trip many times, 4 intermediate fly fishermen decided that it was time to see what all the fuss was about. We were not disappointed! Martin was extremely helpful in answering all of our questions - we had a lot. His advice was extremely valuable. Flights, currency, hotels, clothing, food were all topics he helped us with. When we arrived in Bariloche, we never had to worry about a thing as Martin was there to make sure everything was taken care of. We decided to go on a 4 day/3 night camping and fishing trip, followed by 2 days chasing the big Browns in the Limay River. All our equipment (besides our clothes and personal items) were provided at no extra cost. That included fishing gear, waders, wading boots and flies. The equipment was all good quality and well maintained. The camping was well done - great meals, great guides, great people, great fishing. The camp tents were set up as 2 people per tent on comfortable cots. We caught plenty of Brown and Rainbow Trout - probably 10-25 per day/per person in the 12 to 22 inch range. While camping we were able to see plenty of wildlife such as birds of prey (I saw a condor!), wild boar, llamas, etc. The Red Stag were bugling all over, while camping but we were not lucky enough to see them - maybe next time. The food was great while camping - I am now a fan of red wine with lunch - and the full bar and cold beer were a bonus. Our guides, who go through an extensive training program for their certification, were Herman and Juan. Both were excellent. Our group has fished with many guides in the US over the years, both good and bad. After the camping trip, we spent a couple nights at our comfortable hotel and did two day trips on the Limay, including a (requested) hands on lesson on how to fish the Boca de Limay. Chasing the big Browns is a high cast to low catch proposition, but the payoff can be great. We did not land the huge one, but did manage a couple 1.5 to 2 kg fish. Not bad for a first time. While in Bariloche, we did some tourist shopping and ate like kings thanks to Martin's guidance. Some notes: The red wine beer are great and reasonable. Mixed drinks at restaurants are available but selection can be limited. The fishing we did was primarily streamer fishing. Different times of year can be dry flies or droppers, so check with Martin if you have a preference. There is even a dragonfly hatch on the lakes at some point. That sounded fun. March is a cooler month with some wind, but it was very pleasant (40 to 70 degrees F on average). The camping trip we did was east of Bariloche and was rainfree. It is drier the further east you get from Bariloche. The camping trip allowed for long days of fishing. Some days were 11 hours, but you can let Martin know if you have a preference for shorter days. He will accomodate your wishes. The people of Argentina are extremely friendly. We always felt safe and everyone made an effort to speak to us in English (our Spanish is terrible). I hope you get a chance to experience the country and Outfitters Patagonia!
We had our day with Sebastian. Great guide and amazin trip! totally worth it. This is friendly even for the people without experience and the landscape is incredible. 10/10.
We had an absolute blast on our river run. Juan was absolutely amazing. He provided great instruction for a beginner in our group and made the whole day perfect. Everything was far beyond our expectations. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the area.
We had an excellent day fishing the Limay River. The scenery was gorgous and the logistics of the day turned out great. Would highly recommend using them and our guide German was terrific. Thanks for a great day!
Whether you are a seasoned fly fisher or novice, Outfitters Patagonia, is who you should use for your fly-fishing experience in the area. We did two full days with Herman, the lead guide, who was incredible. He covered everything, from picking us up at our hotel, getting the boat ready, taking us to the best fishing spots, changing our flies based on the conditions and not to mention cooking some delicious meals. All we had to do was enjoy the fishing and beautiful scenery. Herman also did a great job of giving us tips on improving our technique and showed us several new tricks. The equipment is top of the line and well maintained. Our only regret was not doing an overnight fishing trip with them. However, it is on our list of things to do in the future, and we will certainly be using Outfitters Patagonia again.
After a 2 year hiatus (COVID restrictions) we were back fishing again with Outfitters Patagonia, this is our fifth time that we have used Martin's company and we have already booked for next year. Everything is first rate, the attention to detail, the equipment used/provided, the lunch, everything. This year Juan was our guide for the 3 days. He is just a fantastic person to spend a day on the river with, very knowledgeable, gives the right amount of tuition/help, first rate chef, pickup was punctual, vehicle used first rate. If you are thinking of fly fishing is Bariloche these are the guys to use.
My wife and I floated on a 2-day/overnight on the Rio Limay in January 2023. The fishing was good, the food and drinks great, and the company with guides Juan and Sebastian even better. Both are very knowledgable, capable, and speak English very well. Every detail was considered by the team. Martin (Outfitters Patagonia owner) made the booking and communication for the trip extremely easy. We would highly recommend to experienced and beginner fly fishermen alike . Thank you Outfitters Patagonia for a wonderful adventure!
