Return
- Depending on the size of the tour and the traffic conditions on the day of the tour, you will return either to our office or Arc de Triomf, which is just an easy 10 minutes walk from the office.
Itinerary
8.15am - You will start your day at our main office, which is right next to the famous Palau de la Musica. You will meet your guide, have time to use the restrooms, and perhaps even grab a quick coffee before the tour begin. Your guide will explain all about the day ahead and what to expect as you wait for you tour to leave.
8.30am - You will leave Barcelona though the Example district of town. As you head out of the city, your guide will give you a brief history of Barcelona, before letting you sit back and relax on the 90 minute drive to Tarragona.
10.00am - Your first stop of the day is just past Tarragona, where you will discover the impressive Roman Aqueduct (1st century BC) popularly known as 'El Pont del Diable' (The Devil's Bridge) or 'Les Ferreres' Aqueduct. It used to be part of the water supply network of the city and today stands in almost perfect condition. You will be able to walk across the top from one side to another. It's quite an unforgettable moment to be standing on some built almost 2,000 years ago! From the aqueduct you will travel back to Tarragona.
11.00am - You will arrive in Tarragona quietly entering the old part of the city through a narrow gateway in the ancient walls. Nowadays, the new city overlaps the site of the ancient Acropolis and during your visit you will see firsthand the surprising coexistence of a Roman past and modern life. Starting at the Archaeological walkway, you will admire the surviving stone walls, wander through the historic old quarter - passing the medieval hospital - before stopping at the Cathedral where you can enjoy the Sunday morning antique market. From there, you continue down through the old town to discover the Roman Forum and the nearby Roman Circus hidden amidst the urban design. Walk along the underground passageways that held the Circus' stands and come to one of the most popular squares within the old town, Placa de la Font, situated inside the Roman Circus. If you stand very still and close your eyes, you can almost hear the chariots racing by. On this very spot, thousands of years ago on, perhaps on the very same day of the week, the Roman capital of the Iberian Peninsula came alive in all of its bloody glory. And last, but certainly not least, enjoy the breathtaking seaview over the Roman amphitheater and imagine gladiators battling each other to the death! It's a poignant moment to stand on the same dusty ground that bore witness to countless scenes of sacrifice and passion. Perhaps most fascinating of all is the Christian church built in the middle of the stage out of the very same blocks that were used in their amphitheater. After your immersion in Roman history, you will meet your guide and continue our tour at around 1.00pm.
1.30pm . On your way to Sitges, you will stop briefly at Roc de Sant Gaieta, an intimate little village built on the rocky shoreline. Stroll between its tiny white houses and let your imagination take you away to Ibiza fishing villages built with a touch of Roman-Greco flair.
2.30pm - Your final stop of the day is in Sitges. This once quiet fishing village today boasts a long and sandy beach, groovy boutiques, and a handful of interesting sights. Sitges has been fashionable since the 1890s. Get lost in its shady side streets and enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere with its old whitewashed fisherman's houses. After leaving this charming labyrinth, you suddenly find yourself on the seafront. Make a stop in one of the numerous cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants and imagine yourself in St. Tropez. Sitges has dining options to suit every taste and budget. After a leisurely lunch, you might want to head off to one of the 17 beaches the town has to offer for a quick dip in the Med, or browse the many shops and cafes. You will leave Sitges around 5.30pm.
7.00 - 7.15pm - We end the day in Plaça Catalunya. From here, you can easily take the metro or a taxi back to your hotel. Otherwise, your guide will be more than happy to make some recommendations of where to have dinner.

I went on this tour with some of my friends because we wanted a fun day trip to multiple cities and it was the best decision we made on the trip. Our tour guide, Rod was an absolute rockstar and made the whole experience so memorable. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful throughout the tour and answered questions very nicely. Not only did he give us historical information about the cities, but suggested landmarks to visit, acitivies we could do, and food places we could try. We had a small group, which is great because it is more interactive and fun getting to know eveyeone. The locations were absolutely stunning and we had such a great time. You're able to get a good tour and have extra time to do acitivies and explore the cities, allowing for flexibility. Tarragona and Sitges are not often mentioned much when we talk about Spain, but their rich culture and history are remarkable and a must visit if you are ever in Spain.
I went with a couple of friends and it was some of the most fun that we’ve had on our trip to Spain. The locations were breathtaking and the tour guide was not only friendly and informative, but also created a very fun atmosphere. I left with a new appreciation and knowledge on two beautiful cities and with memories that will last me a lifetime time. Our tour guide even treated us to a history lesson on other parts of barcelona, including some famous land marks, giving some recommendations of activities to do and places to see based on our preferences. From touring the ancient Roman ruins and the beautiful city at Tarragona, to relaxing one the mesmerizing beaches in Sitges, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to have a good time.
Great day trip with Tarragona and Stiges with Rod at Explore Catalunya, worth every penny. Definitely one if you like history mixed with a bit of beach time. Rod was so knowledgeable about the sites we visited. Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful experience seeing the Roman Ruins and visiting Tarragona and Sitges, it was not a perfect experience however because we had scheduled this trip for Sunday and they rescheduled us, without telling us why, for Monday when all the museums were closed. Then the whole tour was rushed because of things being closed and us having to be back to the airport for our Monday flight. The guide was very nice and super knowledgeable and we still got to go on the tour it just would have been nice to have gone when we planned to go, overall though we still highly recommend the tour and the people we worked with.
We are three elderly ladies with who still have a zest for life. We went on a private tour with Explore Cataluña to Tarragona and Sitges and we loved it! Our guide and driver was Rod and he could not have been better. He was very knowledgeable! Explained the history and cultures very well. With us also came Carme an intern and both of them were very thoughtful, professional, courteous and patient! All of our questions were answered in the most efficient way. They made this tour be fabulous!!! All three of us enjoyed our day very much!!!
Rod was an amazing guide. He explained each place we visited with such enthusiam! We enjoyed Carmen's company and felt we were with lomg rime friends
Our guide, Rod and his intern Carme were magnificent! Very knowledgeable about history and culture. Enthusiastic and entertaining. Highly recommend Explore Catalunya Tours.
Really enjoyed the experience.
Small group tour. We were lucky that it was just our party. We visited the Tarragona aqueduct outside the town and various Roman sites within the town, which were fascinating. Guide Sergei was friendly and informative. Much easier on the tour and more informative than taking public transport, particularly to the aqueduct, which was impressive.
Sergio was our guide and he is knowledgeable and genial. The tour started promptly, stuck to the promised itinerary and was very good.
We had a great time. Loved the aqueduct. Our tour guide was awesome. He shared lots of great information and history about the area. Totally recommend this tour
Both place’s were great but Tarragona was better than expected. I found the city very interesting. The guide did an excellent job explaining the most important about it.
Rod was a great guide. He had a lot of knowledge to share and kept the day interesting. It was a good day of explanation and free time.
Great tour, just as described. It was well organized. The transport was small but comfortable. Xavier was a great guide.
It was very informative and well presented. All the participants seemed engaged and enjoying the presentations
This was a wonderful experience! Our guide, Rod, was fantastic. He was funny, informative, and very attentive to the needs of the older travelers in the group. Tarragona and Sitges are both absolutely beautiful. We loved getting out of Barcelona and just enjoying some beach time and soaking up some great history. We highly recommend this tour and especially our guide. He made the trip extra enjoyable!
Well paced and informative tour. I love Explore Catalunya’s tours and this one did not disappoint. The Roman ruins are stunning and Stiges is a beautiful city. Our tour guide was flexible and focused his comments based upon our interests. I travelled solo and felt very comfortable. The small group tour format is the way to go!
Sergi is a wonderful guide we have ever had and he made our trip so nice and memorable. He is always happy and enthusiastic. He explained a lot of history to us which made the trip so rich. The views are also fantastic. I would highly recommend this daily trip.
This small group tour was really nice. We could ask the guide many more questions about the local history which was very informative. The shops and beach areas in Tarragona and Stiges were wonderful.
Henrique was the absolute best. Amazing trip and amazing commentary and recommendations. Highly recommend this day trip
Sergio was our tour guide. We were a group of 8 people: 6 were a family from Puerto Rico that were quite nice and made this tour even more enjoyable. Sergio is an excellent tour guide. He had accommodated everyone. Wished we spend a bit more time by the aqueduct.
Sergio was very knowledgable and enthusiastic. We learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. We don't traditionally include "tours" during our travel, but would definitely consider again with you guys.
Interesting details of Roman occupation in the area. Nice towns to visit and explore. Very informative and friendly guide was always ready to answer questions.
We had a great fun. It was a great tour with a very knowledgeable guide Sergio. He showed us another beautiful side of by Spain. Not only the guy was very knowledgeable, but he could also present history facts in an interesting and fun way. Thank you very much for a wonderful tour.
Rod was an excellent guide, one of the best I have had on any trip in Europe. Extremely knowledgeable. If you want to lean History about Spain, this is the tour for you. Wonderful historical sites to see and some beautiful landscapes and towns. Highly recommend this tour.
The guide himself, felt like we were out with a favourite uncle. Enjoyed free time and the bonus festival of Santa Tecla in Tarragona. Topped off with beautiful weather and great food.
The tour was so much fun. Rod, our guide was amazing; funny, informative, and full of great recommendations. Both cities are very cool in their own way, Tarragona with its Roman history, and the beach town of Sitches. 100% would recommend.
Rod was an excellent guide, shared a lot of valuable information and made sure everyone in the group had an excellent time. Sitges was beautiful
I love the mix of history, architecture and swimming! Nice tour to a nice ancient town of Tarragona, with rich history. We had a great guide Steve who gave an interesting historical overview and opinions of an expat in Catalonia. Totally recommend this tour, hope you’ll enjoy it too!
It was the most memorable experience I ever had thanks to Rod. He was full of hospitality and knowledge about Catalunya. Because we are very much interested in the history of this region, his knowledge was so valuable to us. We truly appreciate his kindness and hospitality today. Best wishes, Seiji & Vicky.
I really like the combination of the group tour which is not very big and a mini van instead of a big bus. The guide Nando who is also the driver and the other one were very caring as we have an elderly couple in this tour. We have got enough time to explore each place and the explanation of the itinerary was clear. The recommendation of the restaurant was perfect with what I wanted to try. Will definitely pick the tours from explore Catalunya again and if possible, have Nando as your guide. They make sure you have enough time for each spot and would help you to take photos at the best spot.
Our tour guide "Mr Henriquez" was great. Knowledgeable, attentive and a very good driver. Took us to the right spots, was punctual and on time to pick us up. Amazing time. We loved it.
Small group of guests with Sergi as our guide. We got along quite well. Sergi knew his history. Lots of good info on the sites we visited. Answered our questions and offered suggestions on where to go with our limited free time. Downer was Sitges where restaurant stay took 2 hours. Sunday crowd made Sitges super busy.
Had a fantastic time! Our guide Rod was very engaging and informative. Perfectly paced outing. Sites was a surprisingly pleasant destination.
Sergio and Sergio and Tony the driver were great can't miss tour. Multiple stops with plenty to see .
The Roman ruins are amazing, both places are worth visiting, our guide was very knowledgeable and the trip ran smoothly.
Our guide, we felt he was a font of historical knowledge. Both friendly and fun. Our guide Enrique will be remembered as our highline of the trip.
A nice break from busy crowds in Barcelona. Our guide was very knowledgeable and attentive to questions asked.
Our tour guide Xavier was amazing, cheerful, patient and very knowledgeable! The variety of activities was wonderful, beautiful views of the water, exploring the Roman city, and the restaurant by the water was great. Managed to squeeze in some time for a super quick swim in the cold water felt amazing especially after all the walking.
Our guide, Jordi, was excellent!! We would highly recommend him as your guide. He was knowledgeable and happy to answer any of our questions. The tour provided plenty of time to explore Tarragona and Stiges without feeling rushed.
Thank you so much for all your suggestions! Great advice on where to eat, what to buy in Spain and places to see and visit during free time in our tours. I felt very secure with Rod's driving skills and he is very knowledgeable about everything. Thanks
Beautiful Roman ruins at Tarragona and beaches at stiges. Sergio was a pleasant guide who directed us to a lovely
We're were blessed with an awesome tour guide, in Henrique. Not only was he knowledgeable and very descriptive about the sites we visited; he gave us a fantastic overview of the the city of Barcelona. We would definitely recommend this tour. Thank you Viator!!! 😃
Xavier was a great guide. We started our day to the Roman aqueduct and then made our way to Tarragona. Xavier was very knowledgeable and explained the history behind everything super well. We had some free time to check out the amphitheater or the little shops. We then made our way to Sitges, such a beautiful town. Here, we had lunch and ample time to swim on the hottest day! Definitely don’t miss out on the beach, so refreshing. Xavier made a quick stop where we saw Sitges from the highest point. He captured the most beautiful picture with my mom which I will cherish forever.
Very nice trip. Our Tourguide Xavier did an excellent job. We especially liked the different roman ruins in Tarragona and the church in Sitges.
It was a perfect tour. Our guide xaiver was a good driver, a good recommendator and a good photographer. He is an all-rounder. His historical knowledge was also good. Actually, I am not very good at English, but I could understand everything. I recommend this tour.
Xavier was amazing! We learned so much about the history of Catalonia and had a fantastic time sightseeing. He also took us on some additional sights that weren’t included in the tour, including a fabulous viewpoint to see Sitges. This is a great tour!
