Rooftop Paella Cooking Class Experience In Barcelona With Sangria

This was a great experience in a stunning rooftop setting near the Barcelona seaport. It was a small group—there were five of us—at a table prepped with all the raw ingredients for a magnificent seafood paella. Our chef ensured we were hands-on in the preparation as he explained in great detail the what and how of each ingredient. But it wasn’t just paella. We also made gazpacho and a whit-wine sangria. We then took the paella ingredients to the rooftop garden (it was amazing) overlooking the waterfront with a panoramic view of Barcelona, where the chef coached us on the fine points of cooking our feast. It was a great experience, far beyond expectations. I highly recommend this for a fabulous evening of cooking and dining.

Everything was perfect! From the size of the group, to our wonderful host explaining everything in such detail, to the incredible views. I would recommend to any & everyone. What a delicious meal spent bonding with new folks!

What a lovely experience—someone welcoming you into their beautiful home to learn and share over a delicious, authentic meal served in a rooftop garden oasis. Our hosts were warm and welcoming. I enjoyed learning to prepare paella and loved the anecdotes that made the cooking lesson feel personal and special. The class is great for both those who love being in the kitchen and those with no cooking experience.

Alfonso & Txema were amazing hosts! This cooking class was easily one of the highlights of my trip to Barcelona. The paella was absolutely incredible! I even tried mussels and gazpacho for the first time, and both were wonderful! The sangria was delicious, and enjoying everything from the rooftop while watching the sunset over Barcelona made the experience even more special. The views were breathtaking! An unexpected surprise was that all of the guests in our group happened to be American. We had such a great time getting to know one another, sharing stories about our travels, and exchanging recommendations. I even walked away with a few new suggestions for things to do while I was in Barcelona. The conversation and engagement really added to the experience and made the evening feel like a dinner with new friends. The only problem is that Alfonso has officially ruined paella for me 😂. Every time I eat it from now on, I’m going to be comparing it to his! I can’t wait to try the recipe at home. Great food, great hosts, great conversation, and an unforgettable atmosphere. I highly recommend this experience!

Beautiful rooftop setting with an exceptional chef who taught us how to make Gazpacho, Sangria and of course Paella. We all helped him prepare the fresh (just bought) ingredients and were rewarded for our help with a delicious meal under the moonlight with a view of the harbor front and with new friends

Learnt so much in a fun and relaxing environment. We felt welcomed by Alfonso and his partner right from the start. The rooftop is special where we learnt to cook the paella and then eat, along with the gazpacho and sangria we made earlier in the night. Now that we have the recipes we can’t wait to cook for ourselves.

I booked this cooking class solo and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. The chef was incredibly welcoming from the moment I arrived. He opened his home and greeted everyone with a glass of champagne, which immediately set a relaxed, friendly tone. Once the rest of the group arrived, he gave a introduction to the class and walked us through the paella and sangria right in his apartment. From there, we headed up to the rooftop to cook the dish, and that's where the experience really came alive. Watching the sun set over the marina while our paella cooked was unforgettable. The view alone made the class worth it. The paella itself turned out delicious, and it was so satisfying to eat something we made ourselves with that view. We ended the evening eating together, sharing sangria and getting to know the other group who joined. It felt intimate and authentic, not like a typical touristy cooking class. Even going solo, I never felt out of place. The chef made sure everyone was included and having a good time. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Barcelona, whether solo or with a group. It's a perfect mix of hands-on cooking, great food, and one of the best views in the city.

Such a pleasant experience! Hosts were wonderful & expertly explained selection of foods & processes for making Paella. Each guest was fully involved in preparing the sangria, gazpacho & paella. Even novices were made to feel confident in their preparations! Rooftop view & dining was beautiful & comfortable. Although we were the oldest among the group members, all were congenial & had a fine dining experience. Highly recommend this experience.

Absolutely perfect! Alfonso was waiting for us outside and showed us up to his welcoming home. We were immediately served champagne and were given aprons to start our process. He had all ingredients prepped and ready, but explained what each was and also the importance of great ingredients. After we chopped and sliced, we headed up to his rooftop overlooking the bay and watched as he explained each step in the paella-making process. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience from front to back, and even fell in love with his dog and parrot. <3 Thank you to Alfonso and Txema for being so gracious and welcoming us into their home -- as well as teaching us a bit about their city and cuisine. 10/10 would do again.

Our family absolutely loved this paella cooking class in Barcelona. Getting up to the apartment was incredibly easy—even with a stroller—thanks to the elevator, which made arriving stress‑free. The space itself was beautiful, with gorgeous views from both the rooftop and the apartment that made the experience feel extra special. We were also greeted in the apartment with glasses of champagne. The hosts were warm, welcoming, and truly accommodating. Their friendly dog and African grey parrot added such a fun touch; the dog was one of the most relaxed pups I’ve ever met, even with my toddler gently patting him. They were considerate and kept the dog in a separate room for most of the class, but still made sure we got to enjoy his sweet personality. At one point, they even pushed my toddler on their egg‑chair swing so I could sit down and eat—such a thoughtful gesture. The cooking instructions were clear and easy to follow, and we loved that they emailed recipes for everything within 24 hours. You can tell they genuinely love hosting; the whole experience felt like spending time with old friends. The class was relaxing, fun, and everything we made was SO DELICIOUS. We would highly recommend booking this experience—it’s absolutely worth it.

One of our favorite experiences in Barcelona! The hosts were so warm and welcoming, and their home was the perfect setting for such a memorable experience. The rooftop terrace overlooking Barceloneta was absolutely beautiful, and all the thoughtful little details made the class feel extra special. The food was delicious, and our host was incredibly knowledgeable—not only about cooking, but also about Spanish history and culture. The class is intimate and relaxed, making it such a lovely way to meet people from different parts of the world while enjoying an authentic and delicious experience. We would absolutely recommend this particular class to anyone visiting Barcelona!

It was a very enjoyable evening with good company Slightly odd arriving in someone’s flat - but once went up to the terrace it was amazing and the views were fabulous. Downsides - there was less hands on cooking than other cooking experiences we have had , and there was quite a lot of a delay waiting around when we could have been served drinks / the gazpacho etc

This was an excellent master class in making some basic Spanish cuisine standouts: Paella, Gaspacho, Sangria. These are extremely simple recipes, but the devil is in the details and exactly what you do how you do it and what to watch for and that’s exactly what you’ll get out of this class. This class is suitable for English speakers, but you’ll get a lot more out of it. If you have at least some Spanish as you will be able to ask questions from the hosts’ wealth of knowledge around the edges. It’s a hands-on class, though some of the Long cooking prep items have been made before, but you are walked through the process and there are a few tips and tricks that you won’t find in cookbooks. In addition to the lovely hospitality and cooking, and the knowledge transmitted, their apartment is to die for. This course focuses on seafood and gaspacho has bread in it so in order to get the most out of it, try to go in without dietary restrictions. I believe they would be happy to accommodate any such, but I wouldn’t go with you. It’s totally worth it, just book it now.

From being greeted with his dog to the view from his terrace and the table display, to his knowledge of cooking, it was all so well done and my husband, in laws, parents, and I had an amazing time. And it was just the right balance of doing the cooking and watching the cooking too!

I waited to make paella until I could learn from a local and have an authentic experience and I'm so glad I did. Cooking and learning from Alfonso was amazing. He was so knowledgeable and so thorough with his explanation. I really left with a greater appreciation for the dish. And that's not all-- we made delicious gazpacho and sangria as well, and the whole meal was topped off by cream de catalan. We took it all in on the most beautiful terrace overlooking the marina. It is at the demonstrators personal home. The view of the harbor from the balcony is incredible. Both he and his partner are warm and wonderful. They do have a dog that is chill and relaxed. Preparing the meal of gazpacho, paella, dessert, and sangria was fun. Eating the meal on the rooftop terrace was exquisite. I highly recommend this tour!

Learning from an expert is always fun but our hosts were so warm, hospitable, and fun it made the experience all that much better. The view from the rooftop is unbeatable and the food was phenomenal. Also, their dog is a treasure.

This cooking class was an exceptional experience in a local home with a beautiful view of the marina taught by a talented chef. He was very knowledgeable and did a fantastic job answering questions and providing the best ingredients for seafood paella, which were prepared inside and then cooked outside on the beautiful rooftop grill. The homemade white sangria was one of the highlights to our dinner. Absolutely recommend without hesitation!

If you're reading this, PICK THIS ONE. This was absolutely my favorite experience not just in Barcelona but Spain overall and everything I was looking for in a cooking class - insanely delicious, intimate, personalized, thorough, and in a beautiful place. Great experience before we even arrived - my partner is VERY allergic to seafood so I messaged prior to the event to confirm they could accommodate dietary restrictions (knowing this was a big ask for a smaller, personalized activity). They responded very quickly and kindly that it wasn't a problem. Took an easy metro ride with a nice walk along the beachfront to the location. We arrived to the BEAUTIFUL apartment with a warm welcome (complete with champagne) from Alfonso and Txema and they immediately made sure they knew who had restrictions to keep them away from those ingredients but still active participants in the preparation. Alfonso (a professional chef with decades of experience) explained everything that went into the preparation of the gazpacho, paella, and sangria very clearly, including how and why specific ingredients are chosen, great tips and tricks, and cooking pitfalls to avoid. He was super approachable and answered all of our questions not just about the food prep but his life and experience in the industry. We went up to the even more stunning rooftop, which he has all to himself! We had time to socialize and soak in the views and while Alfonso and Txema cooked up the food - INCLUDING a personalized non-seafood (chicken and vegetable) paella for my partner. Everything was SO GOOD and fresh and enjoyed with an insane view of the sunset over the harbor. Could not have asked for a better time PLUS we got the recipes for everything in our inbox the next day. THANK YOU Alfonso and Txema for being so kind and welcoming, will sing your praises forever!

The prep is in the family dining room. The roof top patio, where we dined and cooked paella was wonderful.It was nice meeting new people. The host created very authentic paella with family secrets. I would say it was very warm inside the house where we prepped. Much cooler later on rooftop patio , with great views. The host accommodated guests with allergies.
