Marcel was an excellent guide. He picked my mother and I up from near our hotel and shared tons of information throughout the day. We had booked a group tour but ended up with a private one which was nice. The time in Montserrat was well balanced with both guided and free time. We then headed to the salt mine which was beautiful and interesting. If you speak English bring headphones for the audio guide you can listen to on your phone. We listened to it by playing it close to our ear but it felt slightly disrupted to the rest of the group with the Spanish speaking tour guide. After that we headed into Cordona to see the castle and town before returning to Barcelona. It was a long day but very enjoyable. Would highly recommend!

Itinerary
Leave Barcelona for Montserrat, the sacred mountain of jagged peaks where a Benedictine community has lived for almost 1,000 years. Visit the basilica and see La Moreneta, the 12th-century Black Madonna and patron saint of Catalonia. Along the way, your guide will share the stories and legends that have drawn pilgrims to the mountain for centuries.
With free time on the mountain, your guide will adapt to your interests. We recommend an easy walk of around 30 minutes to one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the natural park, or you can choose one of the optional activities below.
Decide if you want to enjoy a ride in the rack railway that will bring you at the top of the holy mountain. Enjoy astonishing views along the way.
If you skipped the funicular, you can enjoy the cable car, a breathtaking journey over the Llobregat River and Valley, up the mountain and right up to Montserrat Monastery. If you are not afraid of heights, you will be in for a really memorable and rewarding experience.
Continue to the medieval town of Cardona, crowned by its hilltop castle and 11th-century Romanesque church. In 1714, Cardona was one of the last strongholds in Catalonia to surrender in the War of the Spanish Succession. Walk with your guide through its old streets and discover its history.
Go underground into the Salt Mountain, a salt mine that was worked until 1990. Walk through tunnels with walls of salt and learn why this “white gold” made Cardona rich for centuries.

Marcel did a great job. Attentive, helpful and on time! He went out of his way to make sure we had a complete experience even though the weather was poor.
Marcel was a great guide. Informative, attentive and patient. Everything was great.
Excellent service. The tourist guide was very helpful and the very informative. We enjoy the day with him and learnt the Spain history
Marcel was our driver and tour guide. He was polite, on-time, very kind and accommodating. He explained the sites history and gave us free time. Safe and smooth driver. Vehicle was spacious and air conditioning was good for summer.
The sights were spectacular, especially Montserrat . Had to vary schedule do to Pope visiting same day which meant it was not crowded late afternoon (crowd had emptied out), but less time & opportunities (gondola closed). Salt mine tour was beautiful except only in Spanish ( QR code possible link to English, but need headphones). Guide Xiva was knowledgeable and passionate, but English was not best language. Very polite to repeat as needed. Would recommend this tour, but if Montserrat is your primary goal, opt for only that tour.
Picked up at hotel and had beautiful drive to Cardona, a beautiful castle with attached hotel and restaurant. Next visited salt mine. Fascinating. Had a delicious lunch in nearby village. Then on to Monserrat . Spectacular views and interesting history. Our driver and guide, David, was a fountain of information and catered to our every need.
We had a fantastic day. Our guide, David, was excellent company and very knowledgeable. So many highlights, but seeing the annual Easter festivities in Cardona was very special. We highly recommend this trip and David as a guide.
It was an awesome day with our guide Ramón into the countryside of Spain. He is an amazing person and told us about the history behind each stop on our trip. Very energetic and sympathetic guide! If you like to get in touch with real local history, this is the tour for you. We started the tour going to Montserrat, roughly 1 hour on the road to get there. It is a beautiful place with astonishing views and architecture. It is one of the most important foundational places for Barcelona and Spain. Then we went to the salt mines. Buried below a giant salt mountain, was an important place for past civilizations but also for the industrialization of Catalunya. This part of the tour (when you enter the mines) is made by a local guide, so Spanish is recommended for a better understanding. Right after the mines we had a stop for lunch in a local restaurant. The food is really good! We finished our trip in the Castel of Cardona - another history-rich place and good for sight viewing and photos. This tour took us an entire day but I doubt anyone ever regretted doing it.
It was a pleasure to spend the day with Ramon! He has a real passion for what he does and is a genuine warm and kind person. He took an interest in making sure we were all comfortable and enjoying ourselves as well as acting as our personal photographer. A class act in every way! Do not hesitate to book this tour and make sure to ask for Ramon!
Xavier was a fantastic guide. Incredibly knowledgeable, with a deep passion for the history, culture, & places thay we visited - Cardona, Salt Mountain, and Montserrat. We left with a deep understanding and appreciation for these sites and areas of Catalonia.
We had a GREAT time and mostly it was because of our guide, Xavier! He was very knowledgeable of the sites we visited - Cardona, Salt Mine and Montserrat. These things are magical on their own but when coupled with a guide who can thoroughly explain the history and significance of them, it makes it an unbelievable tour!
Xavi was the best tour guide! His love of the country and the history that goes with made our day one of a kind. He is thoughtful and customized our day....making sure we did everything AND got great pictures. When we are in Barcelona again we will book again with In Out and request Xavi as our guide.
We drove to Cardona Castle first. This gives a nice view over the Old City of Cardona and the Salt Mine. We had some spare time, so Marcel took us to Santuari del Miracle. It's a beautiful church on a pilgrim trail. We then returned to Cardona for a walk through the Old City and to have lunch. We were then ready for the Salt Mine. A terrific experience. It was the highlight of the day for me. We drove back to Montserrat, standing proudly on the top of the beautiful hills of the mountain. It certainly is a picturesque place to visit. Marcel made our day a spectacular success. Thanks for everything, Marcel
Gaspar is an amazing anti-tour guide! This didn’t feel like a tour at all. It was more of a trip around the towns of Barcelona with a family member. He is knowledgeable and so funny. We had an awesome day! Thank you Gaspar ❤️ 🤗
Eduardo provided exceptional service on this extraordinary day of exploration. His knowledge of Roman and local history brought a thousand years of this culture clearly into our focus and he tied our experiences today into the region’s rich fabric of civilization and culture. Bravo Eduardo!
Marcel was a great tour guide. Unfortunately it rained all day and was foggy but the tour was very good. Highly recommend.
We enjoyed and were awed by the views and historic structures, but our enjoyment was leveled up by the enthusiastic, humorous and knowledgeable guide - Xavi. He is the best!
The vehicle was way too small for four passengers. Language was a huge barrier our guide did not speak good English. The salt mine tour was not in English either very frustrating.!
This was a fabulous tour. We have been on dozens of tours in last few years and Ramon is by far our favorite tour guide. I would recommend this comprehensive tour to anyone who wants to see and learn about the history of this area. Ramon was so knowledgeable and had so much information to share with us. For the price of the tour, all the history we covered it was well worth the money and time. Ramon was an excellent teacher who also loves his job. His excitement is easy to see when he speaks of the history of this area. We loved it!!!
Our guide Ramone was fantastic! He was kind and welcoming and very knowledgeable on all historical aspects of the tour. The views were breathtaking and lunch in the quaint town of Cardona was perfect. Montserrat is a must see! Such beautiful country and we saw so much! Best tour guide!
Ramon is such a gentleman… very attentive and courteous. He is very knowledgeable of history and art. He was a teacher so that’s a plus most especially when traveling with kids! He brought us to the Cardona Cadyle in the morning, lunch at a local restaurant, the salt mines, then Montserrat late in the afternoon when it was less crowded. I unfortunately reacted to what I ate for lunch and Ramon was very helpful when I felt carsick after. Thank you so much for understanding. He surprised us with souvenirs at the end of the tour. He is one of the best guides we’ve had so far. FYI: Salt mines part is in Spanish.
Our guide Tioe was excellent! Professional, prompt and very very knowledgeable in an approachable way. He really made our time in Spain and we will look forward to touring with him again
Spent an amazing time at Cardona visiting the Salt mine and fortress/castle. Afterwards visited beautiful Monserrat. Our wonderful guide Nuria made this trip outstanding by sharing her love for the region and her extensive knowledge. Truly appreciated her kindness and joy in sharing. Highly recommend this trip if visiting Barcelona
The trip was amaizing. In each moment Marcel our guia explained and resolved our questions. We ate in a small fantastic restaurant in Cardona.
What a wonderful tour! Mariusz was an expert guide, very organized and knowledgeable and flexible. We had a great time. We plan to bring our parents back to do this tour
The places we visited very beatiful, spectacular and the tour guides very kind and friendly, a great experience
Marcel, our guide, was excellent, truly thorough, very friendly, helpful, and nice.
Excellent excursion to Montserrat, Cardona, and the Salt Mines. Our guide, Albert, was spectacular: very knowledgeable, kind, and passionate about the history and culture of Catalonia. In addition to the explanations, he gave us excellent local recommendations that made the experience even more special. Everything was very well organized and it was a fantastic way to see some of the most impressive places in Catalonia. Highly recommended!
Marcel was an amazing guide; he made the tour an incredible experience.
Excellent tour, the best scenery and amazing places the salt mine very good the guide and not to mention the excellence of Ramon in every sense
Excellent place to do tourism, warmth in service the truth an incredible place to go to know and rest.
The experience was very good, the places we visited exceeded our expectations and our guide Xavi was wonderful with his explanations and attention.
Excellent visit, Nuria our guide very friendly, attentive and excellent explanation of places, I recommend it 100%
Nuria has been the best guide we have ever had! In addition to having historical control over the places we visit, we have been able to learn deeply about Catalan culture. The Tour has been worth it, we made the most of it, we met a medieval castle, its church, the salt mine and Montserrat in a day and even had time to eat on foot of a lake.
The trip was amazing! It is a beautiful place with a special energy. We loved our guide Xavier, was very helpful with us throughout the trip. Besides, gave us very useful information about Barcelona.
