Itinerary
Drive from Barcelona to Tarragona (70 minutes). Take some nice panorama shots at the Balcony of the Mediterranean (20 minutes).
From the Balcony of the Mediterranean we start a walk to the ancient Roman amphitheater and to the city walls where we also see the old circus and the Pretorian tower (70 minutes).
After a short walk of the historical city center of Tarragona, we visit the cathedral of Santa Tecla with its marvellous gothic cloister and its crypt built on the foundations of Tarragona's most important temple in Roman times. The cathedral is a masterpiece of Mudejar architecture of the gothic period. After so much history, you have the chance to eat delicious local food in one of the restaurants below the church.
After a relaxing drive of 50 minutes we come to the fancy beach town of Sitges. Sitges is known for lifestyle, wellness and creativity. Feel free to swim or to have a sunbath on one of the wide and clean beaches, get lost in one of the fashion boutiques in the center or in one of many deli shops or tapas bars.

Andre gave us a wonderful tour of Terragona and Sitges. Andre picked us up at our hotel and drove us to our destinations. Along the way he gave us histories of the towns, the people who came to live here dating back to the time when the Romans concorded the area. He also took us to a lovely restaurant in Terragona. I would book more tours with him. I highly recommend a tour with Andre.
This was an amazing tour! Our guide was so knowledgeable, personable, and was always asking what he could do to make our experience even better. He should’ve been a historian! He gave us great lessons in the history of the region!
I’ve been hesitating to write a review, but this experience keeps coming up in the conversations with the friends we went with and we all agree it needs to be reviewed. Upon meeting our guide, we wasted at least 30 minutes while he got coffee and a pastry, even though we were ready to start. The drive was probably the scariest drive ever as the guide would turn around and look at us in the backseat to talk while driving on the highway. His driving was pretty erratic, and we all felt extremely unsafe. I won’t go into every detail, but while our guide was very knowledgeable in history, he would go on and on so long that we would all lose interest because he could not walk and talk at the same time, so we would be standing in one spot for 30 to 40 minutes while he explained something, therefore we felt like we missed out on a lot. We wanted to actually go on the ruins, but he only had us look at it from afar. I did ask if we could go see the ruins closer and he said yes, but just walked us to a different angle. We would’ve paid to go on the ruins, but he said we did not have time (because he wasted so much time). He also took a couple of smoke breaks and we had to stand and wait for him during those times. Also, during lunch, we were all finished, and I understand Europeans have a different way of eating (slower and taking their time), but he told us more about his personal life, which is fine, however, we were ready to continue on our tour, but we sat there for over an hour while he talked about himself. We had to prompt him to get up to go so we could proceed. In the end, none of us felt like we got a whole lot out of the tour and really felt we missed out on a ton of stuff because of the time he wasted. We have gone on many guided tours before and this by far was the worst we have ever been on. My husband and I were the ones that booked the tour. It was so bad that we refused payment from our friends for their portion because we felt so bad at how awful it was. The towns were stunning and definitely worth going to, but the guide pretty much ruined the day for us.
Guide was very knowledgeable. Explained a lot about what we were seeing and the history. Many excellent locales.
Good time and a great history lesson! The day went as planned and it was a very smooth experience. Thank you.
A truly delightful day out with Andre, whose encyclopedic knowledge of history made our brief visits to Tarragona and Sitges very enlightening and special.
Fantastic tour! Andre’s knowledge, insights, and passion for Tarragona and Sitges were top notch. He has a phenomenal way of simplifying the complex to make it meaningful- I learned a ton and saw some of the most amazing sites I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend this tour!!
Andre did an amazing job explaining the history of Spain along the tour. Tarragon and Sitges were both amazing to experience.
Awesome guide who was very knowledgeable on historical facts and connecting the cities to how they are today. Visited two cities and were back to hotel on time
Andres was so knowledgeable and showed us a great time in Tarragona and Sitges. Each stop on the tour was better than the next!! Highly reccomend.
Andre is so knowledgeable. We enjoyed the insights he gave along the journey. Loved seeing the Roman ruins and the amazing cathedral. Lunch near the cathedral in a very old holding was tasty and nice atmosphere.
Andres guided our family of 4 (boy 13, girl 15, adult parents in 40s) from our hotel to the outskirts of Barcelona providing us with endless amounts of history as well as local highlights. We thoroughly enjoyed our entire tour and the accommodations of the private guide/car were extremely comfortable and appreciated after days of other self guided tours without the local inspirations we were given by our guide.
We were really impressed with our guide knowledge, flexibility and organization. We ordered excursions to Tarragona ahead of time and in reality it felt on rainy day. Our guide changed the plan and turn the itinerary to cultural. He did really great job explaining history of Catalina, processes that made it turn to part of Spain. Great experience overall.
Andre was a wealth of knowledge about everything we saw. He was timely, attentive and clearly enjoyed the history of the area. Sitges was beautiful but the weather was not warm enough for a swim. Tarragona had a wealth of history and we greatly enjoyed the stadium and the circus.
Andre was very knowledgeable about everything we saw. He was a wealth of knowledge. He also timed everything perfectly. We never felt rushed.
This tour is run by a group called Out of Barcelona and our guide was able the show us a good time despite all the problems our situation put on the event. Because we ended up having to have this tour on Easter monday some of the usal stops were closed. However he was still able to get us good views and insights of these sights. He was also vary receptive to our situation and adapted accordingly. Partly because we did ended up booking the tour the evening before he did end up calling us a little late that night to confirm details and that we wanted to go through with the event despite the challenges the day would present.
Wonderful trip and guide. Andre is extremely knowledgeable and very passionate about Catalan culture. Highly recommended to anyone interested in learning the history of the incredible, ancient city of Tarragona from of Roman > Middle Ages > to modern times. The charming, nearby city of Sitges was also very interesting to visit.
We had an amazing day with Andre. He is an incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and entertaining host. We learned so much about the rich culture of Catalonia, its people, and its history. It was a truly enriching experience that I highly recommend to any traveler looking to experience the real Spain. Muchas gracias, Andre!
The trip to Tarragona and Stiges was very worthwhile. The experience was enhanced by Andre, our amazing tour guide. His knowledge and insights were incredible, and therefore we not only enjoyed the fantastic views and places, but were able to place everything in the right historic context!! Andre was also very attuned to our needs and was very accommodating to our wishes and interests. We absolutely recommend this tour.
I would highly recommend that anyone staying in Barcelona for more than a couple days takes advantage of this amazing day trip to Sitges and Tarragona. Both cities offer unique experiences, and Andre is an incredible person to have lead you on the way. He was very flexible when a member of our group didn’t feel well to start the day, and we pivoted to Sitges before Tarragona. We had a great time grabbing some coffee and food, relaxing on the beach, and checking out the local shops. We were then ready to explore in the afternoon, and the history and culture of Tarragona did not disappoint. From the Roman bridge outside of town to the ruins within, as well as the cathedral and all of its history, Tarragona was a incredible experience. All of that was made demonstrably richer by Andre’s immense knowledge of both local historical details and overarching historical themes. I would not do this trip with any other tour guide - to do so would be to lose much if the value of this trip. Our group had a wonderful time, we learned a lot, and I sincerely hope to take another day trip with Andre in the future.
Andre was excellent. He was super open to my and my students particular interests. He knows a lot about a lot! He took a but to fully open up as a guide but it was great. I recommend him and his tour company.
Prompt pickup, knowledgable, fun, and informative. We enjoyed our time and would recommend! Great way to spend a day with personalized service. We observed amazing architecture, cathedrals, and enjoyed good food and drinks. I recommend anyone to do a personal tour instead of a large “bus” tour with people you don’t know!
The whole day private drive/walking tour, from Barcelona, was fully covered by guide, Andre, who detailed the history of the Roman legacy in Terragona, Spain, with good knowledge and enthusiasm! It was well paced, and included Sitges beach town on the way back to Barcelona. It was great that Andre went the extra mile to answer our varied questions and capture our attention. Keep it up!
We had a great day with our personal service with Andre and we booked another. Car is clean and he is extremely knowledgeable about all things outside of Barcelona. Also multi-lingual and shared views on books and philosophy to boot! Also, Terragona is absolutely perfect and not crowded.
We chose the package of 5 visits...but only 2 were really worth it. Not to be taken
