This Viator tour to Monserrat from Barcelona was excellent. Can recommend. Our driver/guide who was excellent soon has us in Monserrat. Amazing views all the way. Guide imparted much information (but not too much to make you want to walk away) which was fabulous. Can highly recommend the funicular to the top. The views were spectacular. Time to also see through the Basilica with its black Madonna or a stroll through the various shops.

Fermi was a great tour guide. He was an extremely experienced climber who was knowledgeable about Montserrat Mountain, the monastery, the Black Madonna, the hermitages and all of the trails on the mountain. Fermi brought delicious sandwiches, nature bars and had ample water for our hike. He took pictures for us and provided us with an awesome day of hiking. There were vendors for a farmers market in the parking lot that had delicious cheese and fig treats. Definitely taste and buy if you 👍 Recommend this tour and Barcelona Hiking Guides 💯 % Definitely would book again.😎
This a great walk that is expertly guided by Fermi. He is very knowledgable and passionate about the Monserrat region. You will need a little bit of fitness, but as any good guide does, he goes at your pace. The provided lunch was tasty. If you want to find the hidden gems of this area. the i cannot recommend them enough. Than you for a great day.
I went for a guided Montserrat tour and it was the best guided tour I have ever booked 😁 I felt safe, but also challanged a bit (to climb some spectacular areas). I came back to hostel tired, happy and proud. Mix of fantastic emotions ❤️ Can't recommend Fermi enough. This trip could not be any better. Fantastic guide, fantastic time!
We ended up getting a personal tour of Monserrat from Femi as we were the only ones on the trip that day! Femi was great and took to three peaks all with amazing views. One was a place where there were no other tourists so you could really enjoy the tranquility. You could tell Femi loved Monserrat and he shared with us that he is aiming to climb every peak with his wife - I think they are currently on 170ish of 208!
Really loved it, amazing hike and the guide was really nice. Good lunch provided. Was an authentic sandwich. Get to see the black madona.
My teenage daughters and I booked this trip for our last day on a 10-day trip to Spain. Unfortunately, we could not hike in the forest near Montserrat due to forest fire restrictions. Fermi found an alternative hike for us further north. Without telling us about the hike or asking us our comfort level or fitness level, he took us on a very strenuous hike up and down two mountains. It was extremely hot. While we had water and food, it wasn’t enough for the difficulty of the hike. My older daughter’s knee hurt due to the climbing up and down rocks; she has ACL reconstructive surgery on the knee and needs to be careful. After the trip I began vomiting due to dehydration. Once I got back to the US, I was hospitalized for dehydration. This was a bad way to end a great trip. I would not recommend this trip. It was a very bad experience. Lastly, Fermi’s English laungyage skills are sub-par. We could not understand him and he didn’t seem to understand us.
If you love outdoors, this is a MUST. Our group of 5 hiked with Fermi in late May. We would never have experienced the trails like we did without his expertise. He knows that mountain well and guided us through an adventurous hike. You can take an "easier way" or the "not so easy" way. We chose "not so easy" and LOVED it. We felt safe and scrambled on the rocks. Excellent lunch was included and we even saw mountain goats. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Incredible views, our guide taking us off the tourist path, climbing to 4 peaks, unexpectedly coming upon mountain goats, peacefulness and stillness of our surroundings, learning about the hermitages/history/the plants and flowers, picking and eating wild asparagus!
I thoroughly enjoyed the history and beautiful view of Montserrat. My guide was an experienced climber and very knowledgeable of the monastery. The goat encounter on the hiking descent was priceless!
We went to Barcelona for vacation and near the end we wanted to see some of the beautifal nature scenery. Therefore we booked the hiking tour to Montserrat. We have to admit that this was one of the most beautiful landscape we have ever seen. Our guide was very professional and knew everything about these mountains. Since it was our first hiking trip we were unsure and felt uncomfortable in some situations. But our guide managed to lead us through the mountains with confidence and good sense of humor. Not only did he show us the beautiful views from these mountains but also told us a lot of the history of this place. We had a very good time here and would definitely consider to take another hiking tour in the near future. We absolutely recommend this tour!
This was a fabulous day spent with a friendly, upbeat guide fermi. Hike was challenging for me, but in a good way. He also brought the best picnic lunch ever! This trip was the high point of all my time in Barcelona area and I had plenty of amazing experiences in this town. Don’t miss this chance to see Monserrat on foot.
We had an amazing trip to Montesserat! Our guide, Pao was the best 👍🏽👍🏽 He was extremely knowledgeable & super funny too. We learnt so much from his travels & experience. I recommend him to everyone! Thanks a lot 💕
Fermi was our guide, and he was such a warm and friendly person! The hike was semi-strenuous, quite challenging but very worth it and do-able. You do need a moderate level of fitness though (really can't see my parents being able to do this). Fermi knows the landscape very well so you can trust him! Although, I do think it would be very helpful if we were given a quick preview of what we were going to do and where specifically we would be hiking up to (for example, we'll be hiking up to point A first, then point B, then point C, and at X timing we will stop for lunch, in total the various hikes will take X amount of time, etc). This would be great because then the guests will have an idea of what to expect and how much time the various hikes will take. We enjoyed our hike very very much, but we just felt like we didn't really know what was coming up next or where we were going next. Overall though, we had a wonderful time.
Spent 4 days hiking Barcelona with Fermi and one day with Frank. What an amazing adventure:) because of these guides, Barcelona is now one of my favourite cities. Thank you so much!!!
Fermi is a wonderful hiking guide! My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful day of hiking with spectacular views and some challenging hiking. A wonderful lunch was provided and great conversation with historical information.
This day trip was the highlight of my vacation! The hike took us to nearly half of the hermitages on the mountain and the views from each vantage point were absolutely incredible. Fermin was the best tour guide and did a great job explaining the history and geology of the area. Be sure to wear good hiking shoes and bring extra water. I will say that the hike was more strenuous than expected, but totally doable for anyone that hikes a few times a year.
We wanted to get out of the city and experience more of Spain and this was the perfect day out. Fermi was an excellent guide - local, knowledgeable and great company for the day. It was a day of variety, with the amazing rock formations of Monserrat, the monastery and hermit caves, and lots of ibex goats. The picnic unch was delicious too. We’d definitely recommend this to anyone. Thanks Fermi!
We had a wonderful trip with Fermi to Montserrat, he guided us safely in the mountains and told us about it’s history in a very interesting way! Even if we were only two singed for the trip, he didn’t canceled the trip!
This was a fantastic day at Montserrat. We were shown the religious buildings and then taken up to the mountains. The guide is so knowledgable about the area and knew the mountains inside out. He knew the names for all the different peaks. He assessed our ability and catered the walk to what we were capable of doing. We had a lot of fun climbing up rocky hills and crevices. We had a gorgeous sandwich lunch with a view. It really is hard to explain how magical the place is. So beautiful even in November.
An absolutely fantastic experience, and the highlight of my trip to Barcelona. Fermí thoughtfully planned a perfect trip just right for our level (challenging, but not too challenging) which let us experience the mountains in a way that would have been impossible without him. Also, he is so lovely! We felt we made a friend on the day. and also learned a lot of interesting things about the local people and nature. For this reason, I wouldn’t say that it made a trip to the mountains better, instead it made the trip an entirely different and far superior experience - so much fun! A very tasty lunch and encounter with mountain goats and a fire salamander made the trip a perfect day. I would very highly recommend this tour for individuals of any fitness level, especially if you want to get off the tourist path or to have a glorious hassle-free trip.
If you are in Barcelona, this is a must do. Sure, you gotta be prepared for the hike, it is several hours after all - it's relatively easy hiking though. The views are to die for especially on a clear day. Simply gorgeous. Cinto our guide was very patient with us and made sure we were good and safe. He had everything you would need for this hike, water, hiking poles, jackets etc. His accent is a tad heavy so one has to focus a bit on what he is saying - loved his impersonation of Napoleon! lol
Cinto’s knowledge of the area was a real plus. His sense of humor added to an amazing experience in such an amazing nature place
We had the most excellent experience. A terrific full day hike that took us to the church and then up through the mountains. Although it was foggy, it was still terrific and Ferme encouraged us to be adventurous. After lunch his encouragement paid off with the sun breaking through and the fog lifting. Ferme was skilled and helpful to every member of our group which was much appreciated. Couldn’t speak highly enough about the day... just do it.
Fermi and Ivan are great guides and began by showing us some areas of the monastery that we wouldn't have seen if we were on our own - don't miss the second side chapel from the front behind the glass doors on the north side! The weather was gorgeous and hot, but they brought plenty of water and a nice lunch that we ate in a shady park accompanied by a cello player near the Pablo Casals statue.
My partner and I had a brilliant tour with Fermi. All the organisation went very smoothly but most of all Fermi was a kind and supportive guide especially with one of us a little nervous about mountain walking who he went out of his way to reassure and help. The trip was breathtaking, starting out above the clouds and then giving views of the whole region as they advanced. We took loads of photos and are still telling our friends about it a month later, but I'd rather not add any here as none of them do it justice. The scenery was incredible and it was just the right combination of exploration and enjoying the environment. Fermi introduced us to some of "the locals" making the trip even more memorable and organised everything perfectly. Would recommend without reservation.
I was so looking forward to this hike at the end of our 3 week vacation, and it did not disappoint. We had a private guide for our group of 6 as no others had signed up for this hike. The van transport was very comfortable, and Fermi was an enthusiastic, attentive guide. He timed our arrival at the monastery before all the bus tours so we were not caught up in the line ups and crowds. Fermi hiked at a pace that suited our group; we did not feel rushed at all. The pace gave us plenty of time to thoroughly enjoy the spectacular views. Our group was fortunate enough to see Spanish Ibex lounging atop a peak. Fermi even took me up the slope so I could get a great photo of them. When we stopped for lunch, I could not believe all the had in his back pack for us. Bottles and bottles of water, sandwiches, desserts! It must have weighed a ton, but you would not have known it by the way he guided us up the mountain. We needed a special lunch for one person in our group, and it was provided with a simple request beforehand!! I would not hesitate booking this company for any of their tours again, and I hope I have the chance to do that on another visit.
Having a guide who knows the area is paramount in making this a fun, exciting and challenging experience. Barcelona Hiking Guides made this an unforgettable experience. We hiked all the mountains, did a little rope climbing, a little crawling and a little testing of our own wits, and it was well worth it. There are things you will only see by doing this hike and allowing them to take you through all areas -- it's about a 10 mile hike and well worth it. It was truly one of the highlights of our Barcelona vacation.
Had the opportunity to trek at Montserrat with Fermi and Joaquim in April 2018. Pickup in Barcelona was convenient. We arrived at Montserrat early enough to view the abbey and Black Madonna, then headed for the hills. It is beautiful scenery. Fermi pointed out the rock formations, the hermit residences, mountain goats and wild asparagus. He has an eye for the life of the mountains. I am 65+ years and this was a strenuous hike for me, but never felt pushed. Lunch was an excellent baguette sandwich, sitting on the ground in the shade, a perfect hike picnic. By the time I returned to the city in the early evening, I was weary but very happy with the day. This was easily the highlight of of my time around Barcelona
We booked this tour knowing we might get lost if we tried to navigate the hike on our own. Boy were we correct! It was an unbelievable, impeccably planned hike and tour of Montserrat. From the picnic lunch (which was so good we returned to the same bakery the next day to order again and found that there was a queue a block long just to get the same sandwiches) to the patient and incredibly knowledgable and skilled guide. The hike itself definitely required good tread hiking boots tho I believe the guide would have adapted to the tour had we not had the proper footwear. The views and pace were amazing. The guide made sure we toured the "black Madonna" before the crowds came and we avoided the hour and a half queue to see the Madonna touring it before the massive crowds arrived to the monastery. Highly, highly recommend this tour with this guide. Only regret is that we didn't also book the Costa Brava tour that they also offer. oh well, next time!!!
Our guide, Fermi was very helpful and knowledgeable. He came prepared! We enjoyed our hiking, we conquered all the 3 main peaks. Weather was superb! Lunch was delicious! I made the right choice for choosing this company!

If you are looking for a real hiking experience, this a great tour.

This was a fantastic hike of nearly 8 miles. We very briefly saw the monastery at Montserrat by choice, we opted not to wait in the line for the Black Madonna before taking the cable car up to the hiking trail. The hike took us along the mountain ridge to several shrines, both new and ancient. The hike also included two different peaks, including St. Jeroni, the highest peak in the mountain range, so although we took the cable car up, there was still a good amount of altitude gained while hiking.

The terrain on the hike was easy to intermediate, but the length of the hike definitely makes it an intermediate difficulty overall. We did not take the cable car down, so be prepared for a long but beautiful trek down concrete stairs to get back down to the monastery. Fermi was an experienced and knowledgeable guide. He carried our lunches of bocadillos sandwiches, mandarins, and cookies, plus a liter of water for everyone. I recommend bringing along some extra water for yourself, as one liter isn't much for such a long hike.

Lifetime memories. Our guide was outstanding, he gave us options, ensured our safety and comfort, and guided us to incredible peaks and shrines. Fantastic lunch spot. If you want a brief visit to the Monastery and a full day of hiking I cannot recommend this highly enough.

We did this hiking tour with our family 2 teenage sons and it was amazing. Our guide, Fermin, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the monastery and the surrounding area and knew the mountains like the back of his hand he climbs the areas regularly. We had a tour of the monastery, and then a great hike past ancient hermit caves and to the top of peaks that gave us panoramic views. We saw mountain goats on nearby ridges. Fermin matched the hike to our ability and gave us history and nature lessons as we walked. This hike was the highlight of our trip to Spain and well worth it!

Fermi was such a wonderful guide! He was so knowledgeable about the area. My boyfriend and I have never rock climbed before and had helped us see the most beautiful views! He made sure we avoided the crowd by visiting the black madonna first thing in the morning. Thanks, Trescant!
