Montserrat Hiking Experience From Barcelona

We had an amazing day hiking Montserrat with Vladi! We started the day with Vladi picking us up from our hotel, then visiting the Basilica and the Black Madonna, next took the funicular up to start our hike. Vladi is an expert in the trails, flora, history and importance of Montserrat. We reached a peak with a 360 degree spectacular view. We enjoyed a picnic Vladi had brought. There was enough time to explore the market with handmade food items. We were returned back to our hotel. This experience was worth every penny, and o highly recommend to anyone!

We did the moderate hike and it was perfect. Lots of different terrain, different types of paths and stairs… We started from monastery and did a loop to the top and back. Uphill was mainly trails and rock paths to the top and the descent was mostly stairs for the way we went. David, our guide, was amazing. Very knowledgeable and engaging, and allowed us to move at the pace we needed ( 3 teenagers leading the pack and us trailing behind). He gave us lots of interesting information about the history, geography and ecology of the area. At the top, we were provided with a light snack and lots of water to replenish our bottles. Hike took our family about 2.5 hours to complete but we were going a pretty quick pace with our teens. I would highly recommend this for active families. Such a great adventure!

Our tour guide (Valdi Ribo) was incredible! He is passionate about hiking and extremely fit. He led us on a hike at Monserrat up Sant Jeroni. He was very knowledgable about the history of the monastery and area. We hope to return some day for him to guide us through a hike in the Pyrenees!

All the tour was spectacular, full of amazing views. Our guide Pere was very professional, experienced and initiative. He gave us a lot of information, did an express guiding in the museum (although it was not in a program). We appreciate his efforts and time

Pere is a great mountain guide and led us on a wonderful hike to a view point, but even more wonderfully through the mountains and forests of Montserrat Natural Park. The scenery is just spectacular. These mountains are steep, but Pere will give you multiple options with varying levels of challenge and will talk you through which one is best for you/ your group. Pere is friendly and informative and even walked through the art museum near the monastery with us before we headed back to Barcelona. And he also took photos of us throughout the day. So lovely! We really had a wonderful day. Definitely worth it to book with him and learn from his expertise of the area. Thank you so much Pere!

I cannot say enough good things about this hike. Well worth the money. I’ve paid more for this kind of outing and gotten less. Our guide was phenomenal. He considered our pace. He took us all over the mountain. He took pictures of us at many of the lookouts! He also mentioned that he does hikes in the Pyrenees. If I come back to Barcelona, I’ll definitely book a tour with him again.

Montserrat was beautiful and the hike was really nice. Beware of the words "moderate" - while most frequent hikers would agree that this was a moderate hike, those that don't hike often may struggle. There are a LOT of stairs - which can be more difficult than flat inclines. Our guide Pere was very knowledgeable and was able to adjust our hike mid hike to better suite some of the groups needs.

We loved our Montserrat hike. The scenery is truly spectacular, better than we expected. Our guide Pere was fantastic. He was personable and so knowledgeable on a range of subjects including geology, geography, flora and fauna,local legends, and the history of the region. He took lots of great photos of us and gave us yummy snacks. We chose the 4 hour hike to the summit and back. It was well worth it. The track is well formed and easy to follow. The steep bits all have stairs.

Had an amazing experience thanks to Pere! Better than I ever planned! I really wanted to hike St Jeroni but was hesitant to do it solo. I am so glad I found Pere. He took the time to get to know me, and when he learned I was a hiker, he suggested a different route. He mapped out my options and made me choose. I chose the one he had recommended and I was so glad! We started from Ermita de St Cecilia. It was definitely challenging and also one of the best hikes I've done. He made sure I was safe. He took several pictures of me! We ended in the monastery and he shared a lot of information. We even heard the boys choir! Do not hesitate to book. Pere was a joy to be with. Being a solo traveller and adventurer I was worried about the alone time for hours - but Pere is a joy to be around, full of knowledge, culture and experience! The hike itself, we took the intermediate route (I think in total it took us around 3 hours up and down) - Pere then showed me around the monastery area and the church etc. Equipping me with tonnes of knowledge about the legends of Catalonia etc. In terms of challenge - I would say if you are a complete novice, the route we took may be a challenge for you. However, Pere will provide you with multiple options! Honestly, what an experience. Thanks Pere! Legend.

Peter is a man of many talents. Not only is he a full fledged mountain guide, he is a photographer, a story teller, a historian and an overall nice guy. Our Monserrat hike wouldn't have been the same without his knowledge and energy. He managed to keep our active teenagers engaged without pushing us too hard. Our tour guide was Pere and he was great! We took the advanced hike which was very scenic and beautiful. We would take pit stops on the way up and Pere would tell us stories about the legends of the mountain. Once we got to the top, you were able to hike up the stairs to the summit. I am afraid of heights so I sat at the bottom and waited for everyone. There were a couple spots on the hike down that peaked my fear of heights again and Pere held me hand and helped me down. We had a great time and great experience. Our hike last about 4 hours. We would highly recommend.

Peter/Pere is amazing! He loves what he does! He was an incredible guide.. telling us stories and info on the drive up to Montserrat. And he knows Montserrat and all the trails like the back of his hand. At the start of the hike, he gave us lots of options and let us decide.. and even took my kids and husband on another peak (that was too difficult for me).. but ended up being the favorite part of our kids' experience. And we just opened up all the photos he took of us throughout the day! What a memory keeper! It was like having a professional photographer to capture the day! If you are looking for a guide for Montserrat, Peter/Pere is your guide! Just do it! You will be happy you did!

Hiking Montserrat with Peter was one of the highlights of our trip to Spain. We are a family with 3 boys (2 teenagers and a younger child) and Peter kept us engaged with his knowledge of the area and interesting stories. The hike was challenging and incredible. Not only did Peter act as tour guide, he was the photographer as well, taking breathtaking photos of our family and the scenery on his fancy camera which he e-mailed to us a few days later. He also provided us with delicious, healthy snacks when we reached the summit. Thank you Peter, we can't wait to return to Spain and book another tour with you !

Peter was a fantastic guide leading us carefully through challenging terrain and customizing the hike with excellent insights. He highlighted the amazing views with a superior knowledge of local history and lore with fun and a great sense of humor. The views and company could not have been better!

We had the pleasure of spending the day with a very experienced hiker, Pere. He picked us up from our hotel at 8am and then drove us to Monserrat. Pere is a very knowledgeable tour guide and hiker. He’s full of energy, friendly, chatty and extremely sociable. Your day with him will not be boring. For the hike itself, we started off slow, to warm up and then gradually built up pace. Along the route, Pere will tell you the legends of the mountains and if you are ok with it, he’ll take photos of you in various stop points. These photos will be shared via Dropbox. If you choose the right day for a hike, once you reach the summit, the views are wonderful. After spending some time at the summit, Pere will then choose the right place to sit for a snack - smoothie, mini baby bel cheese, salami, cereal bar, jellied sweets and water. Following this short rest, you’ll then make your way back down the mountain. Once you reach your starting point, Pere will take you for a tour around Montserrat Monastery. After enjoying the splendours of the monastery, Pere will give you time to browse the souvenir shop before leaving Monserrat for your return journey to your hotel. This is a full day trip, starting at 8am and finishing back at your hotel around 5pm. There are plenty of stop points to take photos and enjoy the views. Pere will also share lots of stories along the way. It’s real good value for money and your day will certainly be fun if you have Pere as your hiking guide.

I cannot recommend this tour enough. Pedro is amazing: a professional, knowledgeable and fun guide who made our hike unforgettable. I want to go back just to hang out with him more.

Pere was our guide. My wife and I are in our 50’s and quite healthy. Even though we felt a little anxious about the experience we did not regret it. Pere is an experienced guide and between words of encouragement and distraction with amazing stories he helped us to reach the top of the mountain St Jeroni. The view from this point is spectacular and worth the physical effort. In April it can be cool but with the heat your body generates as you hike you should be able to remove layers of clothes to cool down. Pere explained it is crucial to watch your body temperature as either extreme will make you consume more energy. Along the way we met both locals and international visitors and stop to briefly chat in a friendly matter. This was part of the experience. If you have health issues such as arthritis or cardiac problems be sure to request the less demanding route.

Pere is a great guide. We did the 6 hour hiking tour from Barcelona. At the site, Pere reviewed our hike options and we chose the hike to St Jeroni. The hike took about 4 hours with about 1800 feet in elevation. There are longer and shorter hikes to choose from. The view from the top was amazing. After our hike, we spent time at the monastery. Pere also took pictures and shred them via Dropbox. Pere is an avid hiker and mountain climber and shared a lot of information about the park. I highly recommend this hike and tour.

We had a great time with Fermi! He took us to the top of Montserrat and also showed us many Ermitages, as well as sharing the history. I would recommend this trip to any brave hikers!

This was a beautiful hike! When we got to the top, our guide had a picnic prepared for us, and it was so fun to sit ip on top of that beautiful mountain, have lunch and look out over the views. It was magnificent! I don’t know why anyone would go on a tour and stop only at the monastery when this beautiful mountain is right there waiting. If you’re in any kind of shape at all, you should try to do this tour. Our guide Peter was as nice a gentleman as you’ll find anywhere. He’s been hiking this mountain for years, and he has some great stories and is very knowledgeable about the rock formations for both hiking and for rock climbing, and he can taylor the hike to suit your ability. At the end Peter gave us a wonderful tour of the monastery and we got to see the Black Madonna. This tour was so much more that we imagined or expected. It was definitely a 10!

We had a lovely day with Pere in Montserrat. He picks you up from Barcelona - in our case our air bnb, which is very convenient. We drove to Montserrat in a comfortable air conditioned mini van. Pere is full of interesting stories about the area and Catalan culture. He then presents three options for the hike. We chose the hardest one. He is an excellent guide - the hike had some climbing involved and we felt completely safe with his expertise. He knows so many legends and tales of the area also. A wonderful day. 100% would recommend. This is the first Tripadvisor review I have ever left and I felt compelled to do so because it was just so excellent. Bring a packed lunch during Covid for a lovely mountain picnic. Thank you Pere!

Our trip was brilliant. We took the one-day trip from Barcelona to Montserrat with Pere. Pere tailored the trip to our walking level (we chose the harder direct route upwards). Pere was very knowledgable about Montserrat with history and many stories about the mountain. Would highly recommend.

What an incredible break from the hustle and bustle of Barcelona. It was so nice to go get some fresh air while getting some of the best views I can remember on a hike. Also, the monastery is a beautiful building that is a must see on your trip. Peter is a native to Barcelona and gives wonderful insight beyond just the hike and the monastery.

This was a terrific experience! I would highly recommend this tour to anyone traveling to Barcelona -- Pere was THE BEST. So knowledgeable, personable, and considerate -- he paced our hike according to our comfort, and got us back to the monastery in time to catch the Boys Choir performance (with a little jogging through the forest). Plus, he brought extra gear for us, and his camera along to capture some key memories -- which he shared with us post-trip. He went above and beyond to make this excursion A+++; if you like to hike, this is the tour for you!

My family hiked with Peter to the top of Montserrat and visited the monastery afterward. The mountain is beautiful and Peter did a great job leading the journey. He had plenty of options and let us choose how we spent the day and how strenuous it would be. It was a thrill and he unpacked the history of the region throughout the day. Pere was an awesome person! This was our favorite thing we did on our trip to Barcelona! The hike was incredible and the Montserrat Monastery was breathtaking. But what made the tour perfect was Pere. He was incredibly friendly and made sure we were having a great time. He was friendly with other hikers and visitors. He brought a snack for us and let us borrow extra jackets for the morning when it was a little chilly. The hotel drop off and pickup was a huge convenience. Père explained the history the entire hike and made it educational as well. We would highly recommend this for everyone to do.

Pere was our hired tour guide for the day and my husband and I had him to ourselves for this adventure. We drove about an hour outside Barcelona to Mont Serrat. On our way in to the area where we are going to hike, Pere stops the car to show us what mountain we will be hiking. I look high and say, WOW! Hmm, hard to wrap my non experienced head around this sight. We then drive into the monastery and park. Pere opens his map of the trails and says, we are going to hike 2 hours up, 2 hours down! We look at this map, not really aware of what it truly means. My husband, doesn’t even stop to think and says, “Let’s go!!”. I am the more fit of the 2 of us, I teach fitness classes and do a lot of cardio. I’m a bit worried if it’ll be too much for my guy?! So, we go on our adventure of climbing this mountain. Words escape me. The smells, the beauty and the attentiveness of our guide to make sure we have a successful journey are only a few ways to describe this tour. Pere stops us when my husband just really needs a break and coaxes us along when it’s only a few more minutes to a fabulous view. The climb was strenuous, steep and conversation so interesting. Pere’s English is great as well as such an interesting guy! When we got to the top, words can’t describe the sense of accomplishment as well as beauty! We sat, he provided us with some delicious snacks, talked, took more pictures and enjoyed nature’s beauty. After a while we began the journey down. Another adventure due to the steepness of the slope. Not strenuous, just constantly being aware of where your feet are and the pitch of the mountain. We end at the place we started. It was my favorite place and tour this trip. If you want activity as well as beauty and an interesting guide, he’s the man for the job. Another cool thing about Pere, is that he photographs your adventure and then send you these fabulous pictures. Beautiful!

Our guide, Pere, was excellent. He picked us up in front of our hotel and guided us up the mountain. The private tour was great since we chose how long and how difficult of a climb we wanted to do. Pere took pics and sent them to us via Dropbox. Was nice not to have to take all the pics. He even provided snacks at the top of the mountain. (which we devoured) Was a great experience and so nice to be outdoors in the beautiful weather.

We booked a small group hiking tour of Montserrat on Viator. The guide (Pere) picked us up right on time at our hotel in Barcelona and we discovered we would be the only people on the tour (which was a huge bonus). He drove us the hour out to Montserrat and we started our 2 hour hike up the mountain. He was always willing to stop and indulge my wife’s need to take a million photos. He also helped my wife find a couple geocaches along the way! At the top of the mountain we enjoyed a small lunch which he had packed for us that included cheese, granola bars, local meat sticks, apple sauce, and candies. After the hike there was plenty of time to explore the gift shop and monastery. The tour did go longer than advertised but that was not a problem for us and we felt it was kind of him to actually take more time out of his day to ensure we got the full experience. Before our hike started, Pere asked if we wanted jackets, I laughed and said 'its too hot for jackets'. As our luck would have it, shortly after our lunch break, a storm rolled in and it was pouring. Pere had 2 small light jackets in his backpack and gave them to me and my wife to help keep us a little bit warm. I would highly recommend going a tour with Pere!

Pere Saurer was an amazing tour guide. Perfect for my family of 4 (2 kids ages 12 and 14). Fantastic hiking, extremely knowledgeable of the area and kids name this day as one of their most memorable in Barcelona. We highly recommend Montserrat hiking with Pere.

This was one of our favorite things! Our guide, Carlos, was so friendly and made the tour very enjoyable! He stopped with us to take pictures whenever and made sure everyone was comfortable and having a good time! We have never done anything like this, and we were so glad we got to experience it and take a move day out of the busy city! I would say it is important to be in good shape for this! The hike was more grueling than we expected. It was also a longer day than we had planned for, but so worth it!

Pere is an excellent mountain guide and adapted well to the various skill levels and ages of our small group. Our whole family really enjoyed the hike to the summit and our visit to the monastery. He picked us up and dropped us off at our accommodations in Barcelona. A great day trip away from the city.

We hired Pere Sauret as a driver and guide for our day in Montserrat. He was a fantastic hiking guide on our 8 mile hike up and down the Montserrat mountains. He knew the mountain well and was very prepared for our hike. He packed hiking poles, water and snacks for 6 of us. He transported us to and from our downtown hotel in Barcelona. He was extremely accommodating to everyone’s needs and limitations. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Pere and highly recommend him.

We had a great time! Pere picked us up from our hotel in his mini-van, which was very convenient. I'm glad we went early to hike because parking looked quite hectic when we left in the afternoon. Our day spent hiking Montserrat with Pere was one of the best of our week in Barcelona. From the personal van pick up at our hotel, to the knowledge he shared with us of the region and history on the drive to and from Montserrat, to the actual hike, it all made the day perfect for my daughter and me. The hike was very challenging for me, as I am a few decades older than my daughter and the other two guests, but Pere was able to pace us perfectly in order to accommodate me and then gave me a few choices about midway through the hike to ease the challenge for me and take in the cathedral by going down the furnicular while at the same time allowing the 3 others to complete the hike, all the way to the top and down and enjoy a delicious snack together at the top! The hike was absolutely beautiful and Pere was so knowledgeable and such a fantastic guide. That he was able to make it such a rich adventure for all of us at varying degrees of health and strength absolutely exceeded my expectations! He is fantastic!

Pere made this day unforgettable. We signed up not really knowing what to expect, and it turns out this was the best tour of our entire trip. Pere was very knowledgable and taught us a lot along the way. The view at the top of Montserrat was the icing on the cake- one of the best views we've ever seen. Loved this tour and would recommend it to anyone in the area!

Hiking guide named Pere Catalan for Peter is super nice guy with excellent English. Picked us up on time with roomy VW van and nice 1 hour drive out to gorgeous Benedictine monastery at base of nice little mountain range that reminded us of the Lumpy Ridge in Estes Park although different rock. Mellow uphill hike up to the near top of this formation where there's a stunning view of the snow-capped Pyrhenees , Barcelona and the sea. Then headed down by a different route checking out Benedictine hermit-huts on the way down. Great views and cool spire formations all over the place. Pere took photos all the way and Drop-boxed them to us: nice pics! If Pere is to be believed, he's climbed a lot of this stuff!! He is also very knowledgable about the extensive and entertaining history behind the monastery and the rock formations. Loved the hike and Pere can't wait to come back and do the Pyrenees with him he says you can day-hike a nic peak from Barcelona !!

Guide was polite, enthusiastic and helpful throughout the day. Showed us around with local knowledge and full explanations.
