I loved doing the Montserrat trail with Sandra. She was very knowledgeable and it was a fun and different experience. The place is beyond beautiful and the trail was medium difficulty, not so much because of the effort, but because of the hot weather, that can be challenging, so make sure to bring water.

Joan (John) was excellent. Source of great knowledge, personable and engaging. Highly recommended.
We recently took the English-speaking small group 6-hour trip to the Montserrat monastery and mountains, and it was the highlight of our trip! Our guide, Juan, was absolutely fantastic—knowledgeable, engaging, and attentive to everyone in the group. He shared fascinating history about the monastery and led us on a wonderful hike that offered breathtaking views. Everything was well-organized, and Juan made sure we had plenty of time to take in the beauty of the surroundings while keeping a comfortable pace. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area, especially if you get Juan as your guide!
This is definitely a must-do hike. The views are awesome and our guide was great. I’m 31 years old and in good shape, and didn’t have any issues with the hike, but my 62 year old dad that’s in decent shape was struggling a bit as it is a pretty steep climb, just as a heads up. It was super cool though and I would recommend to anyone visiting Barcelona. The Monastery was also beautiful.
Sandra was our guide and she spoke English very well. We really enjoyed hiking in this beautiful area and seeing/hearing about the history of the monastery. Sandra was friendly and sociable and made us feel welcome. It was a small group experience, which we really liked.
Challenging and rewarding hike after visiting the Monastery. Bernard was attentive to the entire group and provided detailed history and information about Montserrat and the surrounding landscape. The views are amazing!
Sandra was a super guide! lovely drive from Barcelona to Monserrat. Visited the monastery/cathedral and the hike up the mountain was amazing...it's a real hike! There were clouds in the morning, so we rose above them and looking out at a sea of clouds below us was breathtaking. Sandra had stories and a great sense of humor, and even offered to carry my sister‘s bag when it was clear that she was struggling. I felt like we made a friend. Would definitely recommend this trip!
Awesome Guide. Very kind and helpful. Knowledgeable of the area and had great recommendations. Would highly recommend this guide.
This was such a special tour. Such a blessing to get away from the crowds! Our guide Juan was so good - engaging, knowledgeable, kind and careful to ensure everyone was doing well. This ride is significant but not that long, but there are a few scrambles up and down. If you have bad knees or no experience hiking, it may be a challenge. But the views are awesome and unique. I suspect this will be our fave tour of this week. So worthwhile!
Great experience. A nice hike with a decent amount of incline. Bring some good shoes, water, and a snack. Guide was great!
I choose this particular experience because of the description of the hike. Instead of an aggressive hike we took the funicular up. Our guide John was very good and walked us around the monastery to many different views. When asked about the change between the description of the hike and the actual hike he said that was decided by Catalan trails for the past few months. If that was the case the description should have indicated an easy hike around the monastery .
Great tour! The focus is definitely more on the hike but you have plenty of time to see the church as well.
Juan was a fantastic guide. He’s so knowledgeable about hiking and the mountains of Spain. It was so interesting talking to him about his different adventures and outdoor sports. Our group had a wide range of hiking ability - I was definitely the weakest link. But he never made me feel like I was dragging down the group or making us late with our time schedule. He was very supportive of my slow progress. All that said, I was under the impression that this was an easy to moderate hike. Ehh, I would say it’s solidly a moderate hike. Pretty steep going up and I was really nervous about all the stairs going down - very proud that I finished it.
Our tour guide, Juan, was so knowledgeable and made our experience a great one! He showed us around the beautiful monastery and expertly guided us through a wonderful hike.
A great experience. Our guide Ramon was the best. Super knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and loved being there on the trails. He was well versed in the history of Montserrat and surrounding areas including Barcelona. His experience overseas gave him a very strong handle of English allowing him to easily communicate with our group. It was definitely a challenging hike. The incline is significant at parts and pace can be challenging if the rest of your group is fast. But it was a very good sweat and enjoyed being with nature. The monastery history was interesting. It was fascinating how early hermits settled the mountain which eventually led to consolidation and eventual formation of the monastery. The market on the outside was great and offered numerous free samples. I would definitely recommend this to anyone coming to Barcelona.
We had a great experience and this was one of my favorite days on our trip to Spain. Our guide was great and so nice. He stopped to take breaks when we needed. The hike is a little steep, but not too bad if you were in decent shape. It was really amazing to see the views from all the different angles. I would recommend this to anyone.
Worth taking a day to go outside of Barcelona to see these beautiful mountains and the surrounding area the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the historical sites the hiking trails, the local nature and history of the area 10 out of 10 recommend.
My family and I had the pleasure of completing this hike around Monserrat with Bernardo. We are a group of 5, ages 11-48 yo. The hike took around 3h and Bernardo was a very knowledgeable mountain guide. We were able to see some beautiful views and he really knew the area like the back of his hand. The hike is on some flatter paved areas but also some small rocky paths and then you descend down A LOT of steps. Definitely bring water and Bernardo even had an umbrella for any unshaded, hotter areas. Overall, my family told me we logged 12,000+ steps on the hike and we loved it. Thank you.
Our guide (Bernard) was knowledgeable and friendly. I liked the small size of the group. The hike was easy/moderate, and we always got more information in shaded areas, which gave us a chance to cool off and learn more about the area and its history. Highly recommend!
Jone was super knowledgeable about nature and the history of the monastery. I would definitely recommend this trip!
Really great experience, the guide was very informative and helpful. The hike was tough in the heat but the views throughout made it worth it. Would definitely recommend!
This was an amazing tour! I never would have been able to see Monserrat on my own — so having a guide drive us, explain to us the history, and show us around the monastery was well worth it! Our hiking portion was canceled by park rangers because it was too hot and dry (fire danger), but our guide made the most of our time. I went solo and made a new friend to hang out with after the tour, which was fun!
My wife and I hired Ramon to lead us up Montserrat. He was wonderful.
A tough but rewarding hike (for a non hiker). Great sense of achievement. Bernat had lots of interesting things to say about the regional geology, the history, plant life, the local people.
Had a great time on this tour. Our hiking guide Barnet was great about making sure our group was safe and provided lots of information about the mountain and animals. The hike itself is definitely a moderate hike but doable. The toughest part is the heat itself. I’d recommend the tour (if in the summer) start an hour earlier and go straight to hiking and finish at the basilica instead. All in all, I’m glad we went!
Visiting the monastery was amazing. The buildings, the campus and the chapel are incredibly beautiful and ornately detailed. The view from the mountain was spectacular! I deducted one star because there should have been a disclaimer in the description about how incredibly steep the uphill climb is. You have to be very athletic to do this hike. This is not for the average visitor. Our tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable but she was way too fast and she did not schedule water/resting breaks. We had to stop on our own before she realized that we needed water breaks. Other than that, the experience was amazing.
Christian was our guide for this Montserrat trip. Christian was knowledgable, added lots of context to our journey, and kept us safe & on time with the hike. Christian did a great job making it clear how long we'd have to explore each place, and where to meet back. The hike was not too strenuous, and had various break points to talk about the scenery and history. Very well done!
really enjoyed getting to explore the trails around Montserrat and learn about the surrounding area. was super fun and genuinely would go again.
Great hike! Definitely need your hiking shoes or boots as the terrain is rough and the rain makes parts of it slippy. Our guide Bernat was fantastic! Couldn’t imagine a better guide to have. My son and I had a great day.
Tour was excellent. Sandra, our guide was excellent. Good pace during the tour. Very informative. Highly recommend.
Sandra was a wonderful guide. We had a fabulous experience. The hike is challenging with a long uphill climb at the beginning. We enjoyed the entire tour but the hike is probably only for people wanting the challenge it is not a paved trail for a portion of it. The monastery was beautiful and the Catalan history that Sandra shared was very interesting.
Jordy was a great tour guide. History and visit to the monastery followed by a hike of around 3 miles and 1000 ft. gain. We were fortunate to finish the hike before some fog rolled in. Gorgeous views!
Eugenia was great! Fairly easy hike but people should come prepared with proper shoes. Great views, interesting geological lessons and just all around knowledge. Thank you Eugenia for a wonderful day
Very friendly and competent guide. It was a great experience and the sights around the monastery are marvelous.
Great experience and very well timed. The coordination and communication for the event was well done.
This was a great experience. It cost $164.12 for both of us and was a lengthy trip. The host, Bernat showed us the way, explained the Catalan culture, erasure of culture by the French and a dictator, showed us different plants and explained the plant life as well as monk life. There were lots of stairs on the way down and we were thankful the description said wear hiking shoes and no sandals please. Wouldn’t have made it out without pain if I wore other shoes.
Great tour for people that want something more than Barcelona city life!
I had a lovely time on the trip, the trail is absolutely beautiful! Sandra and Eugenia are so funny and knowledgeable, thanks for a great experience!
Sandra was our guide and she was great. She was very informative and shared great information with us. Super good time but you need to enjoy hiking be up for a good workout.
We had a fantastic and memorable day with Bernart. He was funny and accommodating and so knowledgeable. He paced the hiking (challenging for us!) trip, while teaching us about the mountain and history of Monserrat. We really appreciated all of his knowledge and passion and he shared so much wonderful information. We also enjoyed our conversations!
Fun and challenging hike with our guide Sandra who was terrific! Would definitely recommend this for those who want a special experience when visiting Monserrat!
Wonderful hiking tour!! After a quick stop at the beautiful monastery and basilica, it’s a good workout up to the top of the “serrated mountains,” a snack break, then (a lot of) stairs back down. Fantastic guide Sandra, history & culture, and spectacular views.
A very nice excursion to the beautiful mountain and to visit the sacred monastry. Good hiking with stunning views. Thanks to our knowledgeable guide, Sandra, made the day fun and special ^_^
This was the highlight of our visit to Barcelona! Meeting place was easy, vans were new and clean, Sandra was a great driver and hike leader. We had a good amount of time at the monastery. The hike was about 4 miles, and felt like a real hike up and down the mountain. Incredible views! Highly recommend!
Absolutely amazing experience. Highly recommended !! This activity is very well organised. Our guide was fantastic, super friendly, very caring checking on everyone all the time during the walk. She also got the knowledge about history, geography, even geology, nature. Price are affordable for the experience of having almost 3 hours walk (with few stops along the way). Just for precision, this is not for beginners. We did the walk with our son who is 11 but used to do a lot of walks and sports. There are some tricky steps along the way. We had amazing time Again Higly commented. Many thanks to the team and our guide Eugenia.
Lovely hike to the mountains behind the monastery. Wear closed toe sneakers or hiking shoes. It is a short hike by mileage (3 miles) but a somewhat strenuous hike by elevation (lots of climbing up). Bring water. Our guide was good about giving us the history of the monastery and surrounding area. Weather was beautiful in late March, but will be brutally hot in the summer.
This is definitely the best way to see Monserrat. The hike is easy to moderate. We had people of all ages on our tour. BYO snacks/lunch. The guides were friendly and very knowledgeable. Important to note that if you want to see the black Madonna up close, you need to buy a separate ticket and that is not included in this tour. My family and I were there for the hike, so this wasn’t an issue for us. You can see the black Madonna from afar inside once you’re inside the basilica.
It was more rigorous than we expected, but it was fine and fun. You should be in good physical condition.
The tour was awesome! The guide was informative and interesting, and the tour moved along at a good pace. The hike was a nice addition to just seeing the monastery and appropriate for our fitness level. Definitely recommend this tour!
Chris was the perfect tour guide. He led us all through a beautiful hike off the beaten trail around Montserrat and narrated a great history of the mountain and monastery. Highly recommended!
