We had Brian as our tour guide and really enjoyed our tour. It was so interesting learning the history of the area and seeing the beauty of Montserrat. The hike was “easy” but in the sense that it’s mostly downhill. My older travel partner didn’t find it as “easy” as I did because it was quite steep in some areas. If you have bad knees or otherwise find it difficult to walk down steep slopes you may not want to join that part of the tour. But you can still ride the funicular up the hill and then take it back down to wait on the group. Be sure to wear good shoes that hold your toes in place or they might be a bit sore at the end of the day.

The half day trip was excellent. Knowledgeable guide. Good balance of history and scenery. Worth the money for the experience for sure. Need to be reasonable health in terms of walking as you’re doing some steep steps.
Lovely experience and our guide David was fabulous. Very informative and well worth the trip. The hike is nice and the whole experience is worth the one hour drive up and back.
Jaume was an exceptional guide - knowledgeable, considerate (my wife and I were by far the oldest of the group) and enthusiastic. Well worth the time and money spent.
Was a great tour made even better by a great guide who was knowledgeable, nice and considerate with everyone’s needs.
Monserrat was beautiful, the tour of the monastery and museum ( not part of the tour) were top notch. I would have given this 5 stars but the funicular was closed. This was not the tours fault. So instead of riding up to the top and hiking down as planned we hiked up for a small se tion and back down due to obvious time constraints. We did go down on the gondola to make up for the funicular malfunction. Overall recommended.
We had an amazing experience …views were absolutely breathtaking, and the hike was such a memorable part of the experience. Our tour guide was fantastic, knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole trip even more enjoyable. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area!
This was a great day - unfortunatley my wife broke her back the day before and it was too late to cancel her so I went solo. The mountains were amazing and the walk down the hill was worth it. Wear good shoes and enjoy the incredible views. I loved every minute of this tour - it was well worth it and happy my wife forced me to go!
Our guide Jordy was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. He did not rush our group and was ensuring everyone, especially the senior members of the group, were safe. The hike down from Montserrat is quite steep and good footwear is needed as well as a water bottle.
One of the best guided trips! Our guide (shamefully I’ve forgotten his name) was excellent, with so much knowledge of not only the monastery, but the landscape and nature that surround it. Even with some fog, the views were incredible. Don’t give this a miss!!l
This was one of the highlights of our six day stay in Barcelona! Communication of meeting point and punctuality was excellent. Our guide, George/Jordi was extremely knowledgeable with culture, monestery history, and all aspects of the area. He took great care with his driving and hiking skills. His personality made the experience most enjoyable. He had a wonderful sense of humor and kept our group engaged.
This tour is wonderful. Jordi was our guide and he was fun and informative. The hike was beautiful and appropriate for all ages.
This was a great 1/2 day trip outside Barcelona. Our guide, Alain, was terrific! He was very knowledgeable and insightful. Would definitely recommend this trip!!
Fantastic small group tour, knowledgeable and fun guides. Great information on the history & environment of the area. Excellent new vehicles. Would highly recommend this tour and operator. The walk/hike is not hard, but wear appropriate shoes for stone path ways. One of my favourite days in Spain! Thanks guys !!
We enjoyed the half day trip - we’ve done had a lovely little group of 8 people. Our guide James was very good. He explained things and pointed out important items. On the hike back down he looked after us and made sure we were comfortable. Overall it was an easy way to see the Monserrat Monastery and the Basillica!! We enjoyed it very much.
Lovely day out with Ferran who showed us around Montserrant. Lovely walk down after the funicular ride up.
Me and my 7 yr old daugther did this tour whilst on her first trip to Barcelona. We were met at the meeting point by our guide David, promptly at 8am. David was enthusiastic and happy from the get go. He was brilliant with my daugther and kept her engaged during the whole tour, even having a race with her up the hill, at the beggining of the trek part of the tour. I was worried about having a young child on a tour like this but David and the rest of the group made it effortless. We were driven to Montserrat in a comfy air con van and every step was explained to us. When we arrived, we had about 10 minutes to get a coffee whilst the van was parked. It started misty due to the altitude which gave a sense of mystery. David showed us the food market and used the photos in the gift shop to explain the bascilla and black madonna. We had a bit of free time in the bascilla and taken up the fanicular, where my daughter and I were lucky enough to see two ibex on the right hand side about half way up, lying around 1p ft from the tracks. The we had the trek around the mountain, where David showed us various herbs that grow there. The path is mainky concrete and stable but quite steep. Proper shoes are definatly needed, along with hats and watee in the hot months. We went past a church, the name of which eludes me now and down to a great spot David knew for photos. The trek lasted maybe 45 mins i think and is mainly down hill. Then there was around 55 mins free time before the drive back. I would highly reconmend this tour and if you get David, mention the little girl with the hat with moving dogs ears. In my daughters own words.... David was very funny and chatted with her stuff and was really sweet. The view was really nice and the hike was fun except her knees got warn out 🤣
This tour of Montserrat was perfect! The tour guide, Ferran, was exceptional. He was very knowledgeable and kind and we had plenty of time at all the stops on the tour. We didnt feel rushed at all. The view and the hike was beautiful and of course the monastary was incredible. Thank you for the tour Ferran!
Had a great day seeing Montserrat, the monastery, the Basilica and going up the funicular and a hike back down. The best part was out your guide David who was do knowledgeable and helpful. He collected us from Barcelona and dropped us back
This was my favorite Barcelona excursion! The setting was amazing, sunning church, gorgeous mountain top views, a lovely funicular ride, great little hike, great farmer’s market, and even the little Art Museum was stunning! I would go back in a heartbeat. Our guide was fantastic. This is a don’t miss!
The ride up the mountain to the Monastery is spectacular but it pales to the beauty you’ll discover in and around the Basilica. There is a unique peace which emanates as you enter. You can stop and contemplate its history or attend a Catholic Mass or you can just visit while taking in the views from its magical atmosphere. The funicular to the top affords unrivaled views from the peak and after either descending on foot or returning via funicular, there are places to stop and rest, eat or enjoy the museum.
We had a great tour and an awesome guide. Jordi was right on time and had a great personality. He also was very knowledgeable about Montserrat and its history. The hiking trails were closed but he made up for it with his vast knowledge about the mountains and the wildlife as well as the flora and fauna.
Great half day trip for the family! Highly recommend! Very punctual and informative. Jaime was awesome!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The area was magnificent.
This was a great way to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city. We had a great tour guide and although it was extremely warm, he made sure we took breaks as needed. Although this is not super strenuous, I would not suggest to anyone that is not in average shape. There was a lot of walking and in some areas, it was uphill. The views were amazing and the monastery was gorgeous!
We got lucky in having Juame as our tour guide. Guiding is his second career, having been a biologist for the first 12 years of his professional life. As such, he pays attention to the details. He is able to share as wonderful history and overall knowledge of the experience. It was a pleasure having Jaume as our guide.
Incredible experience to visit Montserrat. David was a great guide and told the group so many interesting facts. A well worth trip!
Small size of the group . Tour guide is very knowledgeable. Great fun to visit basilica, take cable car up the mountain and hike down. The Mountain View is fantastic.
Great overall visit, including multiple activities, knowledgeable guide, and comfortable transportation.
We really appreciated our guide who was attentive and well informed. We were glad we chose a tour with the funicular ride, which was a novelty my 19-year-old daughter and I both enjoyed. The hike down also provided lovely views. It’s a lot of direct sun and requires some agility to not slip on some steeper stretches. Not a challenging hike cardio-wise but folks need to be decently fit and sure-footed. If I were by myself I might’ve preferred to just explore Montserrat on my own time and pace, to get more into the spiritual intrigue of it all. But for a nice six-hour easy outing, this was a perfectly pleasant way to experience Montserrat.
Great guide David who was knowledgeable, patient, positive and a fun experience that took most of a day.
David was wonderful! He was friendly, well informed and high energy. The beauty of nature there was magnificent and the hike moderate. If you are fully mobile, its great. The monastery is no Sagrada Familia, but the mountains and the tour make up for it.
Our tour guide Jordi was excellent, very knowledgeable and patient. We had a group of 10 which included 2 older adults, 4 adults, and 4 children ages 7, 9, and 10. Jordi made it interactive for both the children and the adults and kept the tour interesting throughout.
From start to finish, our guide was simply brilliant. Very knowledgeable about Barcelona and the Montserrat region and he shared the history of the monastery and how the mountain range came to form over the many thousands of years. The views from the top looking back over the monastery to the valley are stunning. The size of the group is perfect and we had plenty of tome at the end to explore the shops and markets that were there. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wishes to explore the area.
This was an amazing day out, and our tour guide (James?) was brilliant. Very knowledgeable and patient with everyone despite multiple languages amongst the group and made sure everyone understood what he was saying at every information point. Every part of this tour was scenic and beautiful, with just the right amount of free time. Definitely take water with you for the walk!
Our travel to Montserrat was more than we expected. Certainly rich is religious and cultural history, it was also a reminder of the sacredness of nature’s cathedral. Our guide Alan was both knowledgeable and informative, an excellent storyteller and naturalist. Our time lasted six hours, truly a half day.
This experience was awesome. Ferrand was our guide, and he was really good at what he did. He offered the perfect amount of information while also giving us out own time to go explore. The van is a very comfortable ride, Ferrand is both your guide and driver and he is great a both. The small group size makes it so that you can get the information really easily and everyone in the group was super respectful of time. I am so glad I went with this, having someone who knows the ropes really makes the experience so much better than if you try and navigate it by yourself. You start with the hour-ish ride, park and go see the monastery before it gets to crowed (very thankful we went when we did), after the monastery you ride up the funicular (amazing views and we went at perfect timing to get the best spot), and then you get to walk down, so you get all the best views without any of the harsh uphill walking. After that you get some free time before you head back, and you really have the rest of your day, it is a perfectly timed and well thought out tour that I highly recommend!
Fantastic view and great history. The guide was first rate. Would recommend to any traveler going to Barcelona.
Alan Nichol was our guide. He was very knowledgeable and personable. He really enjoys being a guide and meeting people from around the world.
It was so easy to book this tour. The details of meeting point and what was included was very helpful. Our tour guide was James, and he was very knowledgeable and patient with us as we are seniors and moved a little slower. He never made us feel rushed and really took the time to explain things and answer any questions. It is a great way to experience Montserrat and take in a hike (most of it was gentle downhill). A great way to see Montserrat and not have the hassle of driving. Once again thanks to James for his patience and knowledge.
It was an unforgettable experience. Seeing the mountains was WOW. Our guide was James. He was incredible and answered any questions I had. He was thorough in his explanations of what we saw. He was patient because it took me a bit longer than the others walking the trail. He recognized it and for that I am extremely grateful. I recommend this tour 👌.
Amazing tour and hike with James! Guide was very knowledgeable and it was clear that he really enjoyed taking guests to Montserrat!
Our tour guide, David, was absolutely amazing. If I could give more stars, I would. We had a great group too. What a fantastic experience
The 4 of us found this Montserrat visit to be the high point of our stay in Barcelona. We range in age from 66 to 79, and all of us enjoyed the tour and the hike led by Ferran, who is a wonderful guide. He provided just the right balance of informative talk and silence, both on the pleasant & comfortable hour long drive and during the Montserrat visit. Highly recommended, reasonably priced and well organized small group (8) tour.
Our half-day Montserrat excursion was a nice way to get outside of the city of Barcelona, get to see a vast view of the Pyrenees Mountains at the northern border of Spain and France, learn about the monastery and its history, and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful weather while being active.
Our guide was great! He knew so much about the history & religious meaning of Montserrat. While we were hiking down, he also shared his knowledge about the plants & trees.
we all had a great experience the guide was great he was patient and very knowledgeable we had a great time!
It is a beautiful site and the history of the Abby is quite interesting. Hike was enjoyable. Tour guide was kind and informative. Highly recommend if looking to get outside of Barcelona for a day.
Great guide, van was very comfortable, perfect amount of time, views were incredible. A nice 1/2 day trip away from the city
Jordi was very knowledgeable and an experienced mountain guide. He shared not only information about Montserrat but also about the plants and animals in the environment. Excellent driver as well in the insane traffic.
