Montserrat is breathtakingly beautiful - both the mountains and the basilica - and should not be missed! Our guide, Valeria, was very friendly and helpful. HOWEVER, no matter what tour you choose to Montserrat, be sure you clarify the travel arrangements. Once you get to the town at the base of the mountain, you can take a train or a cable car to the top. It’s how you get to the town from Barcelona that isn’t clear in this listing, or some others. My husband has some health and mobility challenges so I purposely chose to pay extra for a private tour to avoid having him slow down a group tour and to make the travel to and from the town easier on him. I incorrectly assumed that private tour meant a private car to the town. It does not. The tour is entirely on public transportation. We took a commuter train to the town which was noisy (difficult to have a conversation) and not very friendly to the mobility challenged (stairs to get on & off). Yes, the listing says ‘by train’, but since I knew there was a train up the mountain, I thought that's what it was referring to. Don’t get me wrong - for most people the commuter train would be just fine. I write all of this just to caution people to be aware of what to expect. Our guide said we were not the only people who had expected a private car for this ‘private’ tour.

Needs to be less scripted, rehearsed and more well understood from the traveller's point of view too
Our guide Victoria was outstanding! She was extremely knowledgeable and provided lots of details about Spanish history and Monserrat. Very sweet and accommodating to our needs
It a half day private tour. Tour guide told us to wait in cafeteria building at 12.15 . 5 other group member also there waiting. Arrive at the location around 11.45 and haven’t seen the tour guide at all. 12.15 we all went out in heavy rain not seing anyone of other group and guide. They left 6 of us and we been told that we should go back on our own risk. Bad experience. Don’t book with them in Barcelona. Hope on and off is ok but Montserrat tour guide is really bad . !!!!
Our guide, Jugo, met us at our hotel and we then took a metro and then a train to Monsterret. (Given our first time on those, it was nice to have a guide.). Jugó was very friendly and shared a lot of insight. One thing we didn’t know is that you need to purchase tickets for the boy‘a choir ahead of time as it is typically sold out. If that is something you’re interested, contact the tour company and let them know.
Carlos was amazing! A fantastic day, in a mesmerizing environment. Would recommend for anyone! Lunch couldn't have been better.
Our tour guide was so nice and knowledgeable. She made our trip very easy. Montserrat was beautiful!! I would definitely recommend this tour.
Hugo was a great guide for our day trip to Montserrat! The mountain was beautiful and the history we learned was interesting. Thank you!
We had a terrific day at Montserrat with our guide, Lenise. She navigated the Metro and Renfe for us so easily and got all the tickets we needed at Montserrat! We even got to hear the Boys Choir. Lenise was wonderful to talk to and so knowledgeable about the area and its history. Her enthusiasm about Montserrat was definitely contagious! Thank you.
Great trip and well worth the time it took to get there from Barcelona. Our guide is as so friendly, kind and accommodating our every need. We felt like family when we left her. Our favorite thing was the boys choir in the basilicas, the museum. My only comment is that it needs to be one hour longer, felt rushed
The views, history, and Monastery! It is a must when visiting Barcelona!! Mary, our tour guide was very sweet, but I think after she completes her course in Tourism she will be more knowledgeable especially with the history and presentation. Good luck Mary with your studies!! Arline and Ron
LINESE was amazing tour guide!!! She was extremely knowledgable and was with us a the whole time. This is a very different excursion as far as that you are not loaded up on a bus with others, you take the local expierence. The guide will fome to your hotel by foot and you will head to the destination. First you will take the local metro, then a train about an hour out of the city to the cable cae that will take you to the Montersery at the top of the mountain. Along the way we got to know our tour guide and met several local people. If you are like me then this is the best part of traveling, to see the local life and meet interesting people. We had an amaxing time and had the best tour guide!!!! HIGHLY RECCOMEND IF YOU WANT TO EXPIERENCE REAL PEOPLE AND LOCAL KNOWLEDGE!!!
Mis-Leading Folks Be careful On this tour to Monserrat. Viator sub contracts this to a third party. The offer boasts that it is a private tour and that we can pick you up at your hotel. It doesn’t say and here is the catch, (a person shows up at your hotel and takes you to the subway) it is NOT a private vehicle!!!) $215 a person is a Lot of $$$$ when you can do this yourself for half. Now, our tour guide was excellent Uma was fantastic. She maneuvered us through a broken subway and got my girlfriend and me to the train on time. She was the bright spot of the trip. Great personality and incredible helpful! By the way, the tour boasts of a beautiful train ride? Not even close. You are packed in like sardines and cannot see anything. Also Spain has a mask law for and you guessed it, subway and trains. Was brutally hot on both! So in conclusion, it is a private tour. You and your guide. However, ZERO private car!! Wish more people would have post like I did!!!. Maybe Viator will put in ((( ))) that this trip does not have a private car!!! You would be better to do the small group of 12-18 and save yourself a ton of $$$$ and frustration!!
Having someone escort us from our hotel in Barcelona to the Mount. And then seeing the magnitude of Montserrat from the gondola ride to the top.
Very interesting place. A lot to see. Couldn’t fit everything we wanted to do in the seven hours. We booked a private tour with “pick up at our location”. I assumed that meant we would have a private vehicle. Not the case. We were picked up by the guide then proceeded to ride on a public bus to get to the train.
Marc was our guide. He was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information. I would highly recommend this tour
Ramon was wonderful and his knowledge was very educational and interesting I have used Viator in the past and am always very happy with guides assigned to me
Jorge was a great tour guide! We had a beautiful day. Easy from start to finish as he handled every details for us. We learned so much and the pace was perfectly tailored to us. Highly recommend
I just spent the day at Monserrat with your truly excellent tour guide Ramon Cami. While Monserrat is a magnificent site to behold, it was Ramon who heightened the entire experience. Ramon’s breath and depth of knowledge ALL things Catalonian made for a truly delightful day filled with high quality conversations and descriptions that spanned from Catalonian history and politics to modern day life in Catalan. Since so much in life revolves around money, my adventure to Monserrat with Ramon was a bargain. I highly recommend Ramon as brilliant tour guide.
I’ve enjoyed every minute! Would highly recommend the museum where one can see from Picasso to Tapies (big surprise)... Miguel was excellent!
We had a wonderful tour to Montserrat on April 7. Communication beforehand was timely and helpful, Manu (our guide) was charming in every sense of the word - articulate, informed, easy on the eyes, and obviously interested and fully engaged in sharing with us the history and sights of Montserrat. Even the weather was perfect! He offered a couple of adjustments to the originally planned schedule which created an even more individualized and memorable experience. We would book again with Unique Dreamers, without the slightest hesitation!
We did a private tour of the Montserrat which is about a 1 hr drive outside Barcelona. It is a beautiful place well worth the visit. It has awesome views. We highly recommend going there
We had a wonderful tour with Manu - we highly recommend this young man to be your guide. We were met at our hotel and walked to subway - boarded train for one hour trip to Montserrat and took cable car - Manu made sure we were in the cathedral early for good seats to enjoy the boys choir-
A visit that can be described as a must. When traveling to Barcelona. Specially when accompanied by an excellent young guide like Marcel. A lot of talking and background information all the way to Montserrat and back. The trip was made so interesting we roughly noticed time pass by.
We elected to take a private tour to afford the greater opportunity to learn about Barcelona and Montserrat. Our guide, Marcel, did not disappoint. Taking public transportation allowed time for conversation about the area and its history as well as detailed information regarding the Monastery. Upon arrival we took the hike to St. Michael's Cross for a wonderful view of the Monastery and a spectacular view of the surrounding country side. If you're up for a 25-30 minute hike that is mostly uphill, this is a wonderful option. Following our hike we went into the church to see the Madonna followed by seating in the church to hear the choir. The acoustics are splendid and the boys sang two delightful pieces to the fully filled church (standing room). Following a relaxing lunch, we returned to Barcelona. If you wish to get the additional insight that a private tour guide can provide, as well as superb detail on the history of Montserrat, this is an excellent option that we felt was well worth the added expense.

Mark our guide was terrific. It was great having him meet us at our hotel and guide us the entire day. Not a thing to worry about and hes a wealth of information. We enjoyed a tapas lunch to top off a great day.

Our guide was charming but didn't know much about where we were going. The lunch offered was a buffet and not so good. The views were magnificent!

We started off from Plaza Catalunya up to the start of the cable car. Perfect travel time to discuss much more about the tour and the important facts of Montserrat.
We had a chance to absorb much of the details because we were only 4 in this private tour and we had time to enjoy photo shoots and prayer and a lovely paella meal. Without having to rush.

Marc is our tour guide in La Sagrada Familia and here so we're comfortable being with him. As nice as always and being so patient with us on our request even to go uphill. The best!

Great tour to Montserrat. Ramon was very helpful in making sure our day was filled interesting information and the sites of Montserrat.

We loved this tour! We were met by Marc who made our traveling day hassle free and a pleasure. He was kind and patient, very attentive to all of our needs. He had so much information and history to share with us. We were a family of 6 so he kept us moving but at a perfect pace. It was such a pleasure to have him guide us throughout the day. We finished our day with a lovely Paella lunch at a terrific restaurant. He was very in tune with our expectations and we loved every minute!

Jordi met us at our hotel promptly and began what turned out to be an incredible day! Jordi knew all of the tips and hints for the transit systems that took us to Montserrat. Without his guidance, we would have been left in the dust! As it was, we were in the front of the gondola that took us up the mountainside to the town of Montserrat and had the best views! He was very knowledgeable about the history and he made sure we had the shortest wait to see the Black Madonna and make our wish. He also guided us in the church to witness the amazing performance of the boys choir. Afterward, Jordi took us back into the city for a fantastic lunch. It was an unforgettable day made perfect by our guide Jordi!

I busy day but our guide Jorge was professional and personable and kept us moving and informed. A wonderful way to see Montserrat and sample some of the local food and culture. Our tour ended with a lovely paella dinner at a Barcelona restaurant. A most enjoyable day.

Without a doubt I recommend this tour
Our guide was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and very patient.

This was one of the best tours we've ever done. Our guide, Jordi, picked us up at the hotel and took us by subway and train to Montserrat where we rode the cable car to the top. Jordi was extremely knowledgeable and we very much enjoyed spending the day with him. We gained so much insight into Montserrat but also Catalunya and Barcelona. A very interesting person! We were totally enchanted by the boys choir! The church is so beautiful. We enjoyed a lovely coffee and local pastery at the monastery and later enjoyed a wonderful lunch. We very much enjoyed this tour!

Great tour...only wish it could have been twice as long...there is much to see at Montserrat. Prepare for it if you have time, by reading up on the black madonna there, and others in Europe, and by reading about the fine collection in the art museum. Beautiful site, well worth the time to train up to it and back.

A must do tour. Great way to get to Monserrat with a wonderful guide. Ernesto is one of the best we had during our stay in Barcelona

Great trip up to Montserrat and highly recommend Marc our tour guide was great organised everythign and made it very easy to get there. We would have loved to have spent more time there as it felt a bit rushed through no fault of Marc just the time we had there didnt allow us the time to visit the museum or go up the funicular as we had to choose whether to watch the boys choir or go up funicular.

Marc was a terrific guide, organized, fun, professional, affable, tailored to our specs....and we had an awesome day at Montserrat. Highly recommend the trip -and Marc as your guide if you can get him.

Our guide Marc was great! He was very informative and spoke great English! The visit to Montserrat was great! There is an hour long train ride involved which was a little tiring!

This was an outstanding trip. Our tour guide Ernesto was delightful! His english was great and his knowledge of the area even better. My wife and I had a wonderful time. We would both highly recommend Ernesto and this trip. What a great adventure!!!

Ramon did a terrific job. He was well prepared for our trip and his knowledge of Montserrat was overwhelming. I would highly recommend this for anyone considering this tour.

I was really looking forward to this tour and it didn't disappoint. Our tour guide was Albert. He was very punctual and very attentive to all our needs. He provided us with great tips for restaurants and other things to do while at Barcelona. The train ride over was fast, no more than 40 minutes. Once there we took the cable car to the top, great experience. He was on top of things and made sure we didn't have to make a long line to see the Virgin and the boy choir. . The day we visited was cold and extremely foggy which impaired some of the sightseen but been in this place is so surreal it gives you the chills. Would definitely go back next time in Barcelona

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this activity. Our tour provider was very organized. They confirmed pickup time and sent us a photo of our tour guide prior to the tour date. Our guide, Albert, was punctual and attentive to what we wanted to get out of the tour. We covered all that had to be seen in the allotted time but never felt rushed. Albert was very knowledgeable and eager to share what Montserrat and Barcelona have to offer. Highly recommend this tour!!!

BCN is a wonderful tour company. I only wish I had known about them specifically before we booked anywhere else for anything else. Albert not only told us about Montserrat, he taught us a great deal about Barcelona and her people which is one of the reasons we love to travel. I am going to recommend this company to our friends who are traveling to Barcelona in the future. And, when we return for the finishing of La Sagrada Familia in 2026, we will be calling BCN before we travel. :-

A wonderful trip. Our guide was very friendly and quite good company for the half-day journey to Monsterrat and back. He was very knowledgeable about the place and about the country in general. It was a true highlight of our trip to Barcelona. Highly recommended!

My wife and I had an excellent tour of Montserrat, and this was made possible by our guide Eloi Morte.

Eloi went above and beyond expectations, he turned the tour into an unforgettable experience. His care of our needs, his depth of knowledge and his love of his work and country made it a memorable and cherished experience. It was the personal touch and care from Eloi that made it even more special.

This tour was absolutely amazing and I recommend it to anyone who wants to see a more panoramic and sightseeing view of Barcelona. Our tour guide, Eloi was very insightful and gave us very detailed information on Montserrat and its history as well as information on Barcelona and Spain in general. Eloi was also very friendly to my family and I and he felt more like a friend rather than just a typical tour guide. This tour was also extremely comfortable and relaxing, much like a vacation should be. Plus the views are great ! Therefore, it is safe to say that this tour really did make me fall in love with the city. Overall, I recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see a more beautiful and monumental side of Barcelona. Eloi had great expertise and was very knowledgeable so I know he works with a great company. I trust that the other tours provided by Eloi and his company will be just as amazing.
