Itinerary
Begin your tour right from your hotel or apartment in Barcelona. We’ll pick you up, so please make sure to provide us with your exact location.
Get on the road and head to the mystic mountain of Montserrat. This natural park, with its very peculiar peaks, protects the spiritual essence of Catalonia. For almost 1,000 years, a Benedictine community has lived in these mountains located 60 km away from Barcelona. On the way, listen to interesting stories about Catalonia and its bounding to the holy mountain, scene of pilgrims since ancient times and part of the route to Santiago de Compostela. Your guide will share important information to understand the heritage you will discover during the tour.
With your guide, visit the monastery and its basilica, one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Catalonia, and learn about the role the mountain has played in Catalan history and culture.
Take a short, easy walk of around 30 minutes with your guide to one of the best viewpoints in the natural park, with views over the rock formations and the valley below.
Continue to Cardona, a medieval town in the heart of central Catalonia. Founded around a castle in the 9th century, it grew rich thanks to the salt deposits next to it, which were mined for centuries.
Walk up to the castle that has guarded the town and its salt mines since the Middle Ages. Inside its walls stands the 11th-century church of Sant Vicenç, one of the finest Romanesque churches in Catalonia, and from the top there are wide views over the Cardener valley.
Go underground into the Salt Mountain, a natural salt deposit formed when an ancient sea dried up millions of years ago. Walk through the old mine galleries, worked until 1990, and learn how salt was extracted and why it was so valuable to the region.

I have an amazing experience with Ramon. He is very knowledgeable and great tour guide. He does everything with passion and positivity.
This tour was amazing and all because of Ramon. His knowledge is out of this world. I learned so much with him. He make you feel like a family. I will recommend him to whoever want to come to Barcelona.
Marcel was an excellent guide. He picked my mother and I up from near our hotel and shared tons of information throughout the day. We had booked a group tour but ended up with a private one which was nice. The time in Montserrat was well balanced with both guided and free time. We then headed to the salt mine which was beautiful and interesting. If you speak English bring headphones for the audio guide you can listen to on your phone. We listened to it by playing it close to our ear but it felt slightly disrupted to the rest of the group with the Spanish speaking tour guide. After that we headed into Cordona to see the castle and town before returning to Barcelona. It was a long day but very enjoyable. Would highly recommend!
Marcel was very informative, high energy and went above and beyond expectations! He knows a lot about a lot!
We have the best experience!!! Dulce, our guide, was on time to pick us up from our hotel. Communication was seamless. She gave us clear and concise instructions. Our driver, Wander, was very careful, safety first always, accommodating and treated us with great professionalism. I highly recommend this tour, giving 5 stars.
Xavi was our guide on a 10-hour tour (!) with a 7yo where we didn't speak Catalan, and we were prepared for this to be a hot mess. It better than we could have imagined. Xavi knows so much about history and about Montserrat, we wouldn't have known what the hell was going on there without him. He knew the tour guides everywhere we went, and made our entries into the Cardona salt cave and the castle seamless. He was flexible with our scheduling, and even had treats in the car, which made our kid very happy. Highly recommend Xavi for a tour. He could (and nearly did) talk for the entire 10 hours about all these amazing places. The 7yo: "He was a good tour guide. He gave us a lottery ticket but we didn't win."
Beautiful day with an amazing guide. Ramon our guide, made this such a great experience.
Montserrat and Cardona are must-visit places but hard to do without a car. This tour took care of everything—transfers, parking, tickets, and great guiding. It was worth every penny! Our guide, Ramon, had amazing historical knowledge, and he was so sweet to our children even though they don't understand English.
Ramon turned a great itinerary into an unforgettable experience. Visiting Montserrat, Cardona’s stunning castle, and the unique Salt Mountain is already a visual feast, but Ramon’s commentary took it to the next level. He provided a brilliant mix of deep historical context and entertaining legends/myths that kept us engaged the entire day. His friendly demeanor made it easy to ask questions, and he never made us feel rushed. We especially appreciated his personal suggestions for exploring the local spots—they were spot on! Highly recommended for anyone wanting to truly understand Catalonia’s rich history.
Xavi showed us the absolute BEST time showing us all the parts of Barcelona that we wanted to see. He was patient, kind, and so knowledgeable! It was all thanks to him that our trip was so great :)
Xavier was incredibly kind and helpful. Our flight was delayed and he adjusted for us. He made the entire day beautiful. I would do this again and again just to meet him. The places he took us were lovely and breathtaking. All the locals knew him. This was a highlight thanks to him.
It was a good experience, comfortable and with a intelligent, polite and friendly guide
We had a fantastic day exploring Montserrat and Cardona, and Xavi, our guide, made it truly special. He is amazing—his background in History is surprisingly deep, and it enriched every moment of the tour. What stood out most was the way Xavi connected the present with historical facts, weaving them together so naturally that both places came alive before our eyes. That’s exactly how history should be told. He spoke eloquently throughout, making even the most complex stories easy to follow and genuinely engaging. From the majestic mountain monastery of Montserrat to the imposing medieval castle and salt mountain of Cardona, every stop was enriched by his knowledge and passion. He was attentive, well-paced, and clearly loves what he does. If you’re visiting this part of Catalonia, we highly recommend booking a tour with Xavi. You’ll leave having learned so much and enjoyed every single minute. Highly recommended!
Great tour, very interesting and well organized. Xavier was a fantastic guide. Highly recommended! 😊
Driver (Wonder (sp?)) was very responsible. The guide (Dulce) was exceptionally knowledgable about global history and the sites we visited. She could answer our deeper questions with ease. Some people in our family group enjoy antiquities more than others. She maintained everyone’s interest.
Dulce was an amazing guide for Caledonia and Monserrat. She was extremely knowledgeable of the region’s history, architecture, and culture - providing insights and context to the different sites. She was also flexible with respect to our time and interests. My family would definitely recommend this tour.
That was the most amazing excursion! Our tour guide Ramon was the best, explaining everything and taking his time with us. We highly recommend this excursion and if you can ask for Ramon to be your tour guide that will be a win win.
Very nice experience visiting interesting places. The guide was very good. I highly recommend this tour.
We really enjoyed the tour as a whole and was only a small group 4 people in total. Only bad thing was that Salt Mountain tour was not in English, and they were a bit rude (not our guide but the guides there for the Salt Mine)
Ramon Girabal was the best tour guide ever! Monserrat and Cardona are must see places. We had a wonderful experience and highly recommend this tour!!
This was a great day with a fantastic guide. It should not be missed. It was an excellent mix of history, culture and a natural wonder.
Fantastic and very educational/enjoyable; the small group tour is very ideal to get 1:1 attention and information of the sites from a local (in our case) who was passionate about his job and sharing the history of Catalonia. The tour of the castle was just the two of us (and staff), I think we may have been lucky and in between other tours, but magnificent. Our time in Montserrat was compressed slightly due to the weather and a strong downpour, but it was our choice to leave about 30 min sooner due to a dinner obligation. Our guide Ramon was the absolute BEST guide we have ever had, by far, in the 18 countries we have explored over the years. We wish him the best and for anyone who ends up with Ramon as your guide, you are in for a long day of learning. Highly recommend this tour company.
Covers a lot. The Monserrat portion and Cardona portion were about as expected (very good) but we were rally surprized bu the salt mine. It was amazing.
Our guide Ramon really knew their stuff when it came to the local culture and history, which made visiting Cardona and Montserrat so much more meaningful than just a typical sightseeing trip. It was great to have someone so well-informed to explain the background while we took in those incredible views.
Ramon was a great guide who was extremely knowledgeable, kind, and friendly! His commentary in history, culture, and arts really complemented the wonderful sights of Cardona and Montserrat, bringing this experience to the next level. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
Ramon provided a comprehensive explanation of three amazing sites. Be prepared for an extensive full day tour Additionally, he showed us excellent photo spots and took a few good photos of us.
Had Alejandro today for the Abbey Monserrat tour. He was professional, educational and engaging. I’d highly reco the company and the guide.
Alejandro was an excellent guide. He kept us well informed.
Dulce was amazing and educational. She found a location for lunch that had the best sausage sandwich. Carlos was very polite and a safe driver. Would do this excursion again!
Dulice did a great job not only showing us around but giving us a great background on the history on everything she was showing. Also, wanted to complement Carlos on picking us up and dropping us off in great location. He even would open the door for us. Thank you so much for the great excursion.
Our guide Ramon was knowledgeable and passionate. He made us feel safe and ensured we got the most of our tour. A full day of fun, learning and enjoyment. Cardona was beautiful. Montserrat was breathtaking. Thank you for making our experience a memorable one!
Ramon was amazing and showed us all the great spots! I loved our tours and made great new memories!!
Had a wonderful time on this day trip with Ramon! He was super knowledgeable, energetic and kind. All the stops on the tour were enjoyable and his history, stories and information made it 10x better! Definitely worth it!
Marcel was an amazing guide! Picked us up right outside our place and brought us around to Montserrat and this lovely small town called Cardona. He let us get a small hike in at Montserrat and helped us try a lunch with local foods in Cardona. Super energetic and talkative!
Eduardo was a fantastic guide! We had a great time on our trip. He has a fun personality and told us a lot about Catalan culture and history. The places we went were spectacular, Montserrat is an incredible place. We even had a bit of time to take the funicular up to the top of the mountain. In Cordona the salt mines were very interesting. The salt mine tour is in Spanish though I had read that was the case before going so not a surprise. We had a very lovely lunch in Cordona with some delicious authentic Catalan food. We ended up with a walk around the castle, now my son can say he has been to a real castle :). Cinc estrelles, moltes gràcies Eduardo!
Our tour guide Marcel Simon was great and showed us around all of the different places. Would definitely recommend!
Went on vacation and wanted to see Montserrat and Cardona and found out about this trip. It was a great experience and Simon was fantastic. Spoke great English and was able to explain and keep everyone involved with everything. Would totally recommend for anyone looking to explore and learn while also having flexibility in the planning.
Xavi was an excellent driver and tour guide. My college age daughter and I had a wonderful experience. We especially enjoyed the Basilica where we were able to see the Black Madonna. The salt mountain experience would have been better if it was in English, but the translated pamphlet was fine. We highly recommend this tour, and it’s a bonus if you get Xavi as a driver.
Let me start by saying this tour was one of several we considered while visiting Barcelona, and I’m so glad we chose this one. The main draw for us was the outstanding reviews about Ramón—and he absolutely did not disappoint. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and personality made the day feel effortless and genuinely fun. As travelers, my husband and I often have different interests, and this tour struck the perfect balance for both of us. Castles, caves, unforgettable views, and a rich dose of history—it truly had it all. If you’re considering this tour, don’t hesitate. You’ll walk away with a deeper appreciation for Spain’s history and an experience you won’t forget.
Xavier was a great guide - full of energy and so kind. He was very knowledgeable and thoughtful! Highly recommend. Montserrat is beautiful.
Xavi was an excellent tour guide. We were a group of eight people and he certainly provided us with a pleasant and personalized trip. He was definitely the best person to guide tourists on this tour! I highly recommend him as his service was wonderful without a doubt. He ensured that we got to visit places that were listed on the itinerary and never mentioned that time was an issue. He was also a great photographer! Thank you Xavi!
We were enjoying this wonderful trip so so so much. Montserrat is the highlight of this trip. We were so lucky to hear the famous Boy's Choir, amazing good. The view of montserrat is so beautiful. We had delicious lunch in the medieval town of Cardona. Visiting Castell De Cardona was a fantastic experience. In addition we have to say our tour guide Xavi did an excellent job. He is knowledgeable, friendly and polite. We highly recommend Xavi as your tour guide when you visit Montserrat.
Very informed and pleasant tour guide who was very accommodating and helpful, giving us advice on things to do outside of the tour.
We had a wonderful tour led by Ramon today. The small group option was a wonderful decision as it allowed Ramon to share his knowledge and many insights as the day progressed. This was a long tour and Ramon maintained a high level of energy and enthusiasm at each of the stops. The tour was a great deal cost wise. Our visit to Monserrat was a definite high light and we would recommend Ramon to others looking for an engaging tour.
Xavi was an excellent tour guide. He is knowledgeable, friendly, polite and full of interesting stories. He knows a lot about history and other subjects that made the tour more interesting. I would highly recommend using Xavi for your tour to Cardona, the salt mines and Montserrat. Highly recommended.
What a great experience. Ramon share information we would not have known without him. He is a fantastic guide and would definitely recommend a trip to Cardona and Monserrat with him.
Our experience with our tour guide Ramon was great. He was efficient, and covered the itinerary without any issues, including the transportation. His communication skills in English, which I highly expect from a tour guide, was perfect.
Ramon was so informative, joined his tour for Montserrat & cardona, learnt so much! The salt tour was awesome and insightful
Ramon was a fantastic guide. He was passionate, attentive, and deeply knowledgeable about Barcelona, Catalan history, Cardona, and Montserrat. His love for the region was truly infectious, and he took great care of us throughout the entire day. He also provided us with a wonderful list of restaurant recommendations, which we really appreciated. The tour itself was excellent because both Cardona and the salt mine, which is especially impressive, are difficult to reach on your own. We were particularly glad to join this tour at the beginning of our trip to Barcelona, as it gave us a much better understanding of the area and its culture, and it set the tone for the rest of our visit. We highly recommend this tour.
