Itinerary
Meet your friendly local guide at Pl. de Correus, 1, near the main post office in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter. Look for the yellow Carpe Diem Tours flag or sign. Please arrive 10 minutes early, as the tour begins promptly and no refunds are available for late arrivals.
At the heart of Catalan cuisine, the Gothic Quarter is a must-visit for any foodie. Explore Barcelona’s oldest neighbourhood through its flavours, starting at a family-owned tapas spot. Sample Spanish classics like croquettes, patatas bravas, and pimientos de Padrón, perfectly paired with a glass of local wine.
This family-owned bodega has been doing things the right way since 1945. With only four tapas on the menu, it showcases the no-frills soul of Spanish cooking. Just steps from the port, we’ll eat like the sailors did long ago, sharing cones of crispy boquerones, sampling traditional Catalan butifarra sausage, and washing it all down with a pour from a porrón and a glass of Spanish vermouth. *Due to seasonal holidays, weekend availability, and weather conditions, we may not be able to go to this spot but we will compensate by ordering additional food at another stop or replacing this spot with another venue.*
We’ll wander through the city’s oldest neighbourhood marvelling at former Roman walls and towers on our way to the next food stop.
After leaving the Gothic Quarter we'll head to the bohemian El Born where we'll wander down picturesque alleyways, window-shopping at artisanal shops and art galleries.
Learn the story behind tapas in the lively setting of a classic pintxos bar, inspired by the Basque Country. Then dive in, selecting your favourite pintxos straight from the bar.
Before our final stop we'll see one of Barcelona's most stunning basilicas.
We’ll return to the Gothic Quarter for the grand finale: a hearty paella, a glass of sparkling cava, and a classic Spanish dessert that will make you fall in love with Barcelona all over again.

Excellent food tour with Juan! Highly recommend!
Darren our guide was amazing! And he took us to places we never would have found ourselves. All the food and wine we got to taste were delicious. We would definitely recommend this tour and having Darren as a guide :)
Daniel was the ideal tour guide. Knowledgeable, humorous and a lovely person.
Miguel was great! He is very knowledgeable and seems to enjoy what he does. He made our evening very enjoyable.
Mariah was my guide! What an excellent way to begin a visit of Barcelona!! Mariah was warm and personable with a great sense of humor and very professional!! Everyone was friend by mid-way through tour. Excellent food and drinks with lots of variety and Mariah was a great resource for most anything!!
Our guide, Daniel, was wonderful. He is with Carpe Diem tours and the restaurants he took us to were fabulous. It was an informative and delicious tour.
Great Tapas tour. Sara was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and helpful. I’m so glad we decided to go on this tour, we would never have found the places she showed us
Sammi was an excellent tour guide. The restaurants on the tour were all excellent. We loved all the food and drinks that we were served. Several hours later we met an old friend for dinner and decided to have tapas at the rooftop restaurant of our 5 star hotel. My husband and I both agreed that the tapas served to us on the Food Tour was far superior to the tapas that we had at our 5 star hotel !
Great tour! All stops were good snd Daniel was a great guide.
A great way to experience Barcelonas best known food with a true expert. Roberto was a genuinely nice person that was attentive to everyone in the group. I appreciated his knowledge, kindness and humor. My wife and did this experience with our 4 children ranging from 20 to 3.
Sara was knowledgeable about the two areas we travelled and provided a variety of tapas and drinks in the 4 bars we visited.
Roberto was an amazing guide, he was very knowledgeable about the food, culture and history. It was a great way for our group to kick off our Barcelona visit!
Great Tapas tour , our guide Juan was a great host .
We had a wonderful experience with our guide Roberto. He was very knowledgeable and had a story to tell about every bite we had. Delicious tapas!
Well rounded tour. Juan was very interested in telling us details about the city and shared a lot of good information. He answered all questions and was helpful, professional. We had a great tour— interesting and delicious food; terrific local wines. We went back to one of the restaurants for dinner the next day!
Lovely food tour of Barcelona. Darren was super knowledgeable and funny and also did a great job entertaining our kids. Would highly recommend!
Juan was an excellent guide - so knowledgable. We enjoyed all the restaurants. His knowledge of history was great!
Amazing! Sara was a supe knowlegable and fun guide. Thank you!
Good experience for meeting different people and having fun.
Roberto was an excellent and informative guide! I came with my family of all ages and we all had a great time. It wasn't too far of a walk so it was very accessible and easy- even in the heat! We got to tour around the area and even step into the church in the Gothic District. The food was great and our guide was so funny & friendly. The best hospitality we received during our time in Barcelona was from him :)
We sampled some delicious Tapas in The Gothic Quarter and El Born areas of Barcelona. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. Definitely recommend this tour.
Roberto is a warm and easy going guide. He shared fun cultural facts about Spanish culture but also helped the people in the tour connect with one another which made it special as we all experimented with tasty bites. Come hungry and get ready to drink! 🍷🍾🥃
The tapas tour was fantastic! Lots of local food and drink, nice (air conditioned!) restaurants to sit and chat with fellow travelers, great walk around old town, and Claudio was a wonderful guide! He explained all of the food and talked about Catalan traditions and the area. Highest recommendation!
We had such a fun evening with the wonderful Tahmi who was so informative and so friendly. We had a great group who all mixed in together, Aussies from Sydney and Melbourne, fantastic American ladies from Maryland and DC and us Brits. Nice to be guided around 4 bars/ points of interest. Food was great and to have a drink included at each stop was great value. Would suggest that you are not shy about saying if you are not a fish or seafood fan when you purchase or again when you meet the guide. They definitely accommodated my request which was great to see but others didn’t meaning my vegetarian food had to be shared quite widely when we arrived for the paella at the last venue. If you don’t ask in advance don’t expect last minute changes to be accommodated as the tour is on quite a tight timeline to reach each venue. Thanks to Tahmi for a wonderful evening, we highly the tour
It was a lot of fun to learn more about the El Born and Gothic areas of Barcelona and have the opportunity to be shown places that locals choose to eat. This was a wonderful to way try many different foods and drinks and meet new people.
What a lovely experience. Great knowledgeable guide who clearly had a passion for food and local history. The restaurants we visited were very welcoming and the food and drinks were super! A lovely tour.
Well rounded and all the places were delicious. Darren seemed very passionate about El callejon and it was my favorite as well. Great activity to see the area and try different restaurants. Great activity for the first day to get acquainted with the area.
There is enough good food and drink on this tour to take the place of a full meal. Roberto was the PERFECT guide.
great history, amazing food and perfect wine pairings! Mariah was very knowledgeable and friendly. thank you
The food was amazing and we stopped at places I would have never thought to go into on my own. Lidia was super knowledgeable and I like the mix of walking history and great food.
Very nice. Variety of foods and very nice and charismatic tour guide. Great way to get a little introduction to the city and the food culture.
Wonderful food and Sara was a wonderful tour guide. I really enjoyed everything we ate and Sara was very knowledgeable and friendly and helpful.
We had a wonderful time with our Tapas & Wine tour. Our host was wonderful and the food and drinks were amazing. We highly recommend this trip on your stay in Barcelona!
Our delightful and knowledgeable guide, Petra, led the small group through quaint streets and alleys to hidden gems for a wide-range tasting of tapas and local beverages - ending with a beautiful seafood paella and cava. Petra and the Carpe Diem Company clearly aimed to accommodate all guests and to make this experience enjoyable and worthwhile for all. This is a great introduction to Barcelona and the Catalan cuisine.
Mariah is a treasure and a fantastic guide & hostess! Enjoyed her tour thoroughly & recommend for great food and insights.
Darren was an incredible tour guide — fun, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable. He connected really well with our age group and kept the tour moving at the perfect pace. We loved the variety of authentic foods and beverages he introduced us to, many of which we probably never would have tried on our own. He was sharp-witted, personable, and genuinely interested in getting to know everyone in the group, which made the experience feel much more personal and memorable. Darren was the perfect host, and the timing of the entire tour was spot on. Highly recommend this experience!
We enjoyed this very much! Juan was a fantastic guide and we would highly recommend this tour for anyone.
Sara was fantastic! We had a lovely time exploring the city and enjoyed all the food and wine!
Sarah was enthusiastic and great at bringing the group together. Really enjoyed the evening!
Daniel was amazing!! Loved that we got to try things I would not have normally ordered all while getting a good walking tour of El Born and the Gothic Quarter. Highly recommend!
Our Tapas Tour offered a delicious sampling of Spanish tapas and wine with a generous amount of both. Our guide Darren, was informative, friendly, and humorous, and he made the experience delightful.
Darren was an amazing guide. He was a lot of fun. He was very friendly and entertaining . Got lucky with a very fun group of people as well. Food was good. More than enough!
Very informative and great Tapas stops. Very well done and Daniel was knowledgeable about the history of Barcelona. Highly recommended!
This was one of the best experiences we had in Barcelona. Roberto was an incredible guide and made the entire night feel fun, authentic, and personal from start to finish. Walking through the El Born neighborhood was amazing. Beautiful streets, hidden spots, local history, and some of the best food we had on our trip. Every stop brought something different and Roberto explained the culture and stories behind each dish in a way that made the experience feel so much deeper than just a food tour. The tapas were outstanding, the drinks were flowing, and the pacing of the tour was perfect. It never felt rushed or overly touristy. It felt like exploring Barcelona with a local who genuinely loves the city. If you are visiting Barcelona, book this tour. And if you can, request Roberto. He absolutely made the experience.
Very informative, great tapas! Lidia was an excellent host!
Roberto is amazing! He toke us to such great places that gave us a great overview of food in Barcelona. Would definitely recommend for an evening free!
I’ve done several food tours and different tours throughout Europe and this was by FAR the best one, mainly because of our incredible tour guide, Darren! He was so charming, funny, and apparently had a wonderful memory because he remembered all of our names and we are a family of 13. We left feeling like we made a lifelong friend and I have a feeling he makes everyone feel that way. The entire process was seamless. We loved everything we tried throughout the tour and the walk was through the most picturesque side streets and alleys that made us fall in love with the city! If you are interested in booking this tour, please request Darren. He will make your experience in Barcelona unforgettable and it will be the highlight of your trip, guaranteed!
Sara was an amazing tour guide! We learned so much and loved the food and drinks.
