Friendly host. It was in an area that was not really easy to get a taxi afterwards in an industrial area. We had to walk about 10 minutes before we could find a taxi location. Experience itself was enjoyable. There were only 7 of us and it was very interactive. We learned the skills behind making paella and we also made red homemade sangria. Afterwards we all dined together and shared conversation. Really nice experience, however Viator needs to be more transparent and communicating transportation as safety is a priority on an unfamiliar location.

Itinerary
Overview Learn how to cook authentic Spanish paella during a hands-on cooking class on a Barcelona rooftop. This small-group experience combines cooking, local culture, and relaxed dining for a truly memorable food experience. What to Expect Begin by preparing homemade sangria or vermouth together to set a relaxed, social atmosphere. Your local host will then introduce the origins of paella, its regional traditions, and the key ingredients used. Next, take part in every step of cooking a traditional seafood paella from scratch. You’ll prepare the sofrito, broth, and rice while learning practical techniques you can easily recreate at home. This is a fully hands-on class — not a demonstration. As the paella cooks, enjoy your drink, chat with the group, and take in the rooftop setting. Once ready, sit down together to enjoy the paella you prepared, accompanied by bread, olives, and fresh fruit. Had a great learning and cooking experience with the INVISIBLE CHEF! Loved how we could get to know other tourists and share this experience together. 10/10!
What an amazing experience! Where to start? The rooftop location was amazing. Not only beautiful, it felt like you were at a friend's party. Not too fancy, not too casual, not touristy. Rather, a genuine experience of Barcelona, the culture. The lesson on making (and eating) the paella was approachable, unhurried, and made what might seem like a complicated dish accessible. But truly, the best part was the host himself. Benjamin is a fantastic host. Yes, as a teacher, he was very informative of the history of paella, the ingredients by region, and the key points for making the dish successful (including some ways to possibly modify it based on what was available for you at home). But his sense of humor, opennes, and general ease about him really made the whole evening comfortable, relaxed, and inclusive. (The very available and fantastic sangria didn't hurt either!) And that sangria.... After turning on some music, having us don aprons and wash our hands, Benjamin whipped up a pitcher of sangria. As he did, he explained and showed us how to make the sangria. We poured ourselves a glass and dove right in. Guiding us on prepping and cooking the paella, he effortlessly demonstrated and coached us on everything paella. From the pans, history, ingredients, key points on when to move from one step to another, it was a fun education and experience. And the paella? No review can give it justice. Like the whole event (Location, education, and the host), you have to experience for yourself.
Such a fun experience learning about what ingredients we are using and why. Yummy sangria was flowing
Lovely evening making delicious sangria and paella ! The teacher was fun and gave a history of paella making. Would recommend !
Benjamin was so kind, and both his knowledge and personality made this experience really special. He was accommodating to the other group members with allergy restrictions and overall just an incredible host. Highly recommend.
Benjamin was very friendly, personable, and knowledgeable. His English was very good so we had no trouble communicating. The location was on a narrow one way street in an industrial residential area with minimal signage. Luckily our taxi driver ensured we were in the right place before leaving but you may have difficulty if you're arriving on your own. You do have to go up 3 flights of stairs to get to the rooftop and there is no elevator option. Our entire group enjoyed the experience and would love to do another class with him!
Benjamin was the ultimate host and chef. Loved everything about this Rooftop Spot in Barcelona. The care and quality of his style and cooking is above and beyond the norm. I We will go back and visit when here again as he is a wonderful host and chef !!!
Our chef Patrick gave us a Michelin experience. Patrick made sure all the people participated. He was thorough in his explanation of what ingredients were being used and how he was having us prepare it would highly recommend this cooking class to anyone
While the location felt a bit off the beaten track, the experience was fantastic! Our host Cesare was kind, patient and lots of fun. Beautiful fresh ingredients, lovely delicious food and Sangria. Great facilities. Super good value.
First, don’t let the meeting place throw you off. It’s on a non-descript street/alley with a blue door. The cooking was lots of fun with lots of information on the how and why of making traditional Paella as well as how others regions make it. Hands on for the whole group. Sangria was great! Plan on it going closer to three hours and two, so you can relax and joy. Benjamin was a great instructor!
It was such a fun time! Loved getting to meet new people and ask so many questions about the different types of paella recipes
Easy location with a quick subway ride from the main part of the city. Subway system is very easy to navigate! Felt like a true authentic locals experience.
It was a cooking class for just my 2 friends and I and we had so much fun. He taught us about everything we needed to know about history, all the things we could do if we did this ourselves at home without the space he had, and we did every step ourselves. We made a couple batches of sangria, tomato bread and seafood paella and it was more than enough food for us 3. We had so much fun with our instructor and he was so funny so we had a blast the whole time. I’ve done other cooking classes in different areas that were larger and I thought this was the best because I got to learn every step and ask any questions we wanted to. Highly recommend taking this class! I would do it again if I come back to Spain!
Our group had an amazing time! Food was delicious and the experience was a highlight from the trip!!
This was such an awesome experience. The guide was so knowledgeable on the history of paella and explained the process very well. my friends and I had a great time and the meal was our favorite from our week in barcelona! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting the area!!
Patrick was an absolute pleasure to be with. We had such a wonderful experience and incredible group. I would recommend this experience to everyone I come across coming to Spain. My girlfriend has a celiac allergy and he was so accommodating. Thank you so much !!!!!
Delicious! We had a great time learning to cook paella together. I appreciated that our chef made a separate vegetarian paella for me and one other person.
Absolutely amazing the group was so fun and Patrick was a stellar host and instructor. Everyone got super involved (even though we didn’t have to!), would HIGHLY recommend
Ben was so welcoming and fun and we had a blast!!! He walked us through all the ingredients and how exactly to make paella
It is a great experience if you’re looking for a chill relaxing environment. There’s was plenty of shade to shield us from the sun & groups are small enough so that everyone can ask as many. The host is Welcoming and very informative about the history of pallea. My group had the seafood and everyone helped. Great food, sangria and rooftop.
Very informative and interactive! Really unique experience - we both really enjoyed it! Host was very cool
Benjamin brings you in, makes you feel like family, and gives you an experience you’ll never forget. Everything we made was amazing! This is a must do experience.
Benjamin was amazing! The class was educational and so much fun! I would highly recommend to everyone!
This was awesome! The cook did a great job at explaining the history of paella and showing us the cooking techniques. It was really yummy! Even had a vegetarian option! Highly recommend
A time was had!!!! Such a fun cooking class! We felt like family with complete strangers and had amazing paella. I walked away with a good understanding of how the dish is traditionally made as well as some insight into different iterations of it around the country. Prioritize this experience on your itinerary and go have a great time.
Brilliant experience with Ben creating an intimate, fun and comfortable environment whilst also displaying a high level culinary expertise and local cultural information
Benjamin was excellent! The class was the perfect balance of casual/entertainment as informative. He shared personal experiences and make sure everyone got what they can for. The location was also fairly close to the metro which was helpful since we were taking public transit. He was friendly, professional, and welcoming. We would definitely recommend this experience to friends visiting barcelona
My friends and I came to Barcelona wanting to do a paella making class and this was the perfect experience! The food was great as well as the instructor and atmosphere. The instructor walked up through, step by step on how to make paella and sangria. When we sat down we had a nice conversation with the other people in our group and the instructor. It was interesting to learn about the local culture and hear what it’s like to live in Barcelona. Overall, I would greatly recommend!
Our instructor was fantastic, super accommodating with dietary needs (we had both vegetarians and meat-eaters in our group and he adjusted without missing a beat), and genuinely knowledgeable. He walked us through each step so nobody felt lost or worried about messing up the dish. The class went beyond just paella too. We also made sangria and a few classic Spanish appetizers, which was a great bonus. You could tell he really loves what he does; he was passionate about the food and happy to answer all our questions, including some good local tips since we were still getting to know the city. Would absolutely do this again and would bring more friends next time if I could. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Barcelona who wants a hands-on, memorable food experience.
We enjoyed this experience but it was not a lot of hands on activity but we all enjoyed it. We were there during a heatwave so may have made it seem slower paced
What a lot of fun this experience was. Ben was so much fun and knowledgable. It brings great people together. We learned, laughed and had a great meal and refreshing Sangria's.
Benjamin was a great host. We gained alot of insight on paella history and the types of paella. We had lovely appetizers and a dessert. It was a really hot day but Benjamin kept the sangria and ice water flowing. Everyone had the opportunity to participate as much or as little as they wanted to. We had a great time. I would definitely recommend this experience!! Thank you Benjamin!!!
Ben was a very welcoming, knowledgeable, and attentive host. All guests have the opportunity to be as hands-on or -off as they please, so there’s no pressure when it comes to participating in the class, either way. My partner and I highly recommend!!
Benjamin was amazing! This experience was the highlight of our trip. We got to make sangria from scratch, an app and seafood paella. It felt like such an authentic experience and truly something I’d recommend to anyone!
Great time was had by all! Learned how to make paella while enjoying sangria on a breezy rooftop setting. Paella was delicious! Recommend!
If you're even thinking about taking this paella cooking class in Spain, stop thinking and book it immediately! My mom and I took the class together, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Benjamin was hands down the best host we could have asked for. He was friendly, hilarious, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. From the moment we arrived, he had us laughing nonstop. I honestly can't remember the last time I laughed that much while also learning something new. Not only did we learn how to make an amazing authentic paella, but Benjamin was so patient and helpful throughout the entire process. And let's talk about the sangria, top tier and so fresh! Between the delicious food, great drinks, and Benjamin's endless humor, the whole experience felt more like cooking with friends, in your neighbors backyard. My mom and I couldn't recommend this experience more. Great food, great company, lots of laughs, and memories we'll be talking about for years. Thanks, Benjamin, for making our trip so special (easiest review I’ve ever done).
Hosts were so friendly and the overall experience was great! Everyone was so kind and I would definitely recommend!
Our chef, Christian, was patient and knowledgeable about the countries cuisine. We loved being outside and having this experience on our trip to Barcelona. We loved meeting new people and dining with them. Just a heads up for anybody that might not be able to climb steps. There are several flights of stairs to go up to the rooftop. My friends and I all enjoyed this immensely and we highly recommend this excursion.
Christian was so great! The rooftop was so cozy, we had such a nice time participating in the cooking and chatting with the other people there. Christian let us be as hands on/off as we wanted and added some great context of the history of paella. He added in some easy tips and tricks for us if we wanted to make it again ourselves. The sangria was also great! Would definitely recommend!
He’s very accommodating with your time, very hospitable and the paella as well as his sangria were one of the best tasting we’ve had while in Spain!
Benjamin The host was extremely friendly and funny. We were really able to get involved in making a traditional Paella. We were also able to try different stages of the Paella like the sauce and some of the rice. The final product itself was amazing. I would really recommend people to try this for themselves.
We had such an amazing time, and I would highly recommend this experience to anyone. I personally enjoyed how humble the experience was - it was just paella, sangria, and great conversation. The host took his time explaining the differences between the types of paella, and how to properly build the dish. We also learned how to make sangria and an appetizer, which we ate as we cooked the paella. Despite being with a large group, it was very interactive, and I felt like this experience was designed so people could go back home to try and replicate the dish themselves. The host was so fun to chat with - he was very friendly and had many good recommendations for other things and places throughout the area. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who not only has an appreciation for food and cooking, but for the culture itself.
Amazing experience! Very insightful, great guidance, wonderful hands on experience. Tips and tricks and history to bring back home, highly recommend!
We absolutely loved the Rooftop Paella Class! Benjamin was such a gracious host and made the experience feel personal and welcoming, especially since it ended up being just the two of us. One of the most interesting things we learned was that the true star of paella is actually the rice itself, not the seafood or meat that goes into it. He explained the process so well and made it both educational and fun. This was a very hands-on experience. We chopped vegetables, grilled the seafood directly on the special paella pan, and helped stir and build the dish step by step. The entire class took about 90 minutes, and with the beautiful weather we were lucky enough to enjoy the rooftop setting the whole time. The portions were extremely generous — honestly more food than we could finish! Unfortunately our hotel room didn’t have a refrigerator, so we couldn’t take leftovers with us, but thankfully Benjamin had a neighbor who happily benefited from the extra paella. Overall, this was a fantastic experience and I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Barcelona!
This was the first cooking class I’ve ever taken, and will definitely do more of them because of this experience. The chef was so cool and so much fun to chat with. The class itself is very relaxed but also informative. My wife and I learned a lot about the food but also about the different regions in the area that inspire the paella. I am going to recommend this paella class in particular to anyone I know that’s taking a trip to Barcelona.
Outstanding experience to learn and partake in the local cooking culture of Barcelano. Benjamin was an outstanding host teaching Americans how to make paella. Great open air roof top location. Highly recommend if your a local or visiting Barcelona to take time to join the experience.
Benjamin was a gracious host and made us feel at home. His teaching style was fun and interactive, mixing local and Spanish history to give color to cooking paella. It was like hanging out with friends enjoying each others company great food and drink.
Benjamin was an excellent and very friendly host. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning how to prepare paella and sangria or just looking to spend a few hours hanging out with those in your party who do like to cook. It was a very local experience and worth every penny.
What a wonderful experience! This was a day I will never forget. Such a great time learning about the dish and some of Barcelona and other parts of Spain. I highly recommend it.
