Novotel Barcelona City

The hotel works as a hotel chain property should, but lacks character. If I had to summarise my experience, I'd say "decent but bland". I was a guest in October, travelling for business, so I didn't have the chance to experience a lot of it. I checked in at dinner time, and it was easy and smooth, although my room had clearly been smoked in. Requested to change rooms and was immediately given another one. Not sure if the situation was different in other rooms but the room felt overall a bit dated. Not necessarily old or badly kept, just the design and the normal wear and tear. The art was bland, the colours extremely neutral, there wasn't anything that wasn't absolutely needed. No slippers, no bathrobes, no toothbrush glass or anything, besides the iron and ironing board. The room had a double bed and a sofa bed, but there were five hangers. The safe didn't work. Lighting isn't too bad - the room was darker than I'd like - but isn't great either. The breakfast was extremely varied - much more than your average hotel - and the quality was good, or at least as good as it can be when cooking that amount of food for people to consume in that window of time. The staff were nice at every interaction (mainly checking in/out and at breakfast). The location wasn't the best for tourism, but it's convenient enough that you can go anywhere by the metro/taxis. The rooftop is really a wonderful addition, not so much for the pool but for the lounge area. The sofas are so comfortable and the atmosphere in the late afternoon is really lovely. Perfect place to kill a couple of hours before dinner. In a place like Barcelona, there are probably much more "hip" places where design and experience play a larger role. If you're looking for a standard hotel, maybe are here for business, have no particular expectation and the location works for you, then this is the right choice. Amazing place. Beautiful room. Great food. Especially the dining experience - their main guy Rogerio was super friendly and full of positive energy, lit up our spirits after a long hectic day! His colleague Javier was great as well! Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, do visit for dinner!

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel! Everything was excellent, from the cleanliness and comfort to the overall service and hospitality. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help, which made our experience even more enjoyable. A special thank you to Ayman, who was exceptionally kind, helpful, and professional. His outstanding service and warm attitude truly made a difference and made our stay even more memorable. We really appreciate everything and would definitely recommend this hotel!

Room wasn’t ready for hours, was given two free drinks at the bar for compensation, but we don’t drink. After checking in our room, another person tried to enter. 15 minutes after that while I was in the shower, another guest entered our room and had a room key. There is only a sheet on the bed, no comforter. Was freezing cold and tried to use towels for warmth. The safe didn’t lock so had security worries since other guests had easy access to our room. Downstairs restaurant for breakfast was 5/10. Over cooked eggs, fruit was aging, not much flavor in their other dishes. One great thing is the location. Everything is walkable and near a mall and grocery store. Taxi service was right outside. You will want to get out and not spend much time in the room. Beds are very hard, shower is tiny, no views out the window—just another building.
