Hotel Derby

Nice stay, nice breakfast. Localization also good - 30min walking / 15 car from the most touristic points. All the crew were very good but Osman was the best!

★★★★★ We had a wonderful stay at Derby Hotel and couldn’t be happier with our choice. From the moment we arrived, the staff—especially the reception team—were incredibly warm, friendly and helpful. The hotel is spotlessly clean, has a lovely atmosphere, and the location is very convenient, with many great restaurants within walking distance. A big thank you to the entire team for making our first visit to Barcelona so enjoyable. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend Derby Hotel!

If I could have assigned a lower score, I would have done so. I had a three night staying in the hotel, and at first everything looked good. I did my check-in with a very kind, fast and professional staff member and I was met with a nice room. A bit small but everything was in place and I appreciated the presence of a Nespresso coffee machine, which is a nice upgrade over the powder coffee bags you usually get in most hotels. Before going into the negatives, I want to mention that all of my interactions with female receptionists of the hotel were remarkably positive. There were some minor issues with the room related to the presence of a strong light source being positioned right in front of the window and requiring a complete shut down of the curtain to sleep. The real issue(s) started later though. I got back to my room in the afternoon and I found a huge cockroach inside my personal belongings (a small transparent bag for personal care items). I immediately asked the cleaning ladies to remove it for me and they proposed to buy me back the purse and its content, which I declined since there was no significant value and I found it disgusting afterwards. I was then called by some guy and told that someone was going to come and clean my room again. It is interesting because this person claimed they had problems in English, which I found very strange because all of the receptionists I talked to were very proficient in this regard. Additionally, my room had not been cleaned at all that day, so it was not a bonus clean at all. I left the room and when I came back it had still not been cleaned once, but my purse was back (I didn't want it). I talked to the receptionist and I told them I was disappointed with how the thing was dealt with, as something like that should not happen in four star and I was expecting at least to be prompted to change my room, but the hotel was full. After asking again, I finally had my room cleaned for the first time that day but I had to wait 9 PM for that. Just to add a cherry on top, at checkout I was told that I had taken a bottle of water from the fridge, which I didn't and they could have easily verified by knowing what was actually inside the fridge. I told the guy that I had all of the receipts of the things I bought to prove that it was not their bottle. I honestly remember no water bottle in the fridge to begin with, but even if there was, it was quite easy to check that the empty bottle on my room was NOT taken from them. Since mini fridge items are very overpriced, before making such claims they should check at least. He didn't want to see my tickets, which I had, and said "okay" and just stared at me with a disgusted face, so I asked him why he was staring and that if he didn't believe me I could show the proof, and he got angrier, defensive, and shut the interaction like that. I think these two guys were everything but polited or professional. I would rather sleep on the streets than ever stay there again.

This is a great Hotel for visiting Barcelona, near centre and metro stations. Rooms clean, functional good. Street is Quiet. Service is good. We did not use the breakfast....eating out is very much fun as well. To get the taste of Spain...and fairly cheap. Will definitely return...we stayed in the derby hotel 4star on no. 21...opposite to the main hotel. Apparently that is a bit newer and has a pool and fitness...we are here to visit the city. So fitness is walking and swimming is sweating in the metro 😃.
