Great base for exploring Barcelona. There were a lot of roadworks nearby when we visited but the hotel lobby was calm, spacious and smelled great, offering immediate relaxation and contrast to the outside. Staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Our room was a good size, cleaned well and the temperature was perfect. The other facilities were equally good- the spa and rooftop pool provided me with the perfect refreshment when I wanted them. I feel lucky to have stayed here.

We have just returned from our 4 night stay. It was everything we hoped it would be. The staff, the service, the location - all excellent! We enjoyed the spa which is so lovely. The rooftop pool was welcome in the heat; the seating area, daybeds and loungers were all very comfortable and plenty of them. We had food and drinks; the service was fab. We all loved the breakfasts, wide variety and you can order freshly cooked eggs and omelettes. When we return to Barcelona, we will definitely stay here again.
Wow, just wow!! If you're headed to Barcelona, I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Exceptional service, beautiful rooms, extraordinary amenities, and, most of all, the most lovely and helpful team. We arrived late on a Saturday night for a 5-night stay. After an easy check-in (aided by the online pre-check-in), we dropped bags in our rooms and headed up to La Isabella -- the rooftop lounging/dining area -- for a late supper. The rooftop cannot be beat for sunset views, as well as those of surrounding mountains/hillsides, and the best service. Even though our room was right at the corner of La Rambla, it was fairly quiet (note: we welcomed sounds of World Cup celebrations and joined in!). Rooms are well-appointed, great beds/bedding, and plenty of hangers, towels, etc. We appreciated the hotel's commitment to sustainability, including as demonstrated by not having a bunch of disposable toiletries in the bathroom. During our stay, we did lots of Barcelona sites visiting and neighborhood exploring, but also spent at least a few hours every day enjoying the hotel amenities. The basement thermal area is spectacular, with a nice pool under a gorgeous brick-vaulted barrel ceiling, along with sauna and steam rooms. (Note: You need to reserve a half-hour slot to access it but there is no additional charge for hotel guests.) And we spent lots of time on the rooftop, enjoying the pool, lounging seats, and food and drink. Value for return of Hotel 1898 cannot be beat and we can't wait to return! In the meantime, would love to know what scent the hotel diffuses in common areas -- it is amazing!
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The location was perfect for exploring the city, and the staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making it easy to relax after long days of sightseeing. One of our favorite parts was the beautiful atmosphere and attention to detail throughout the hotel. Everything felt elegant while still being comfortable. We truly enjoyed our time here and would absolutely stay again on our next trip to Barcelona. Be sure to check out the spa. Thank you for making our vacation so memorable!
Great hotel, beautiful. Room was good size and very nice. Breakfast fabulous. A couple of small complaints, had to continually ask for extra water in the room, it was very hot and only left one small bottle each day for the 2 of us. Not sure how the phone system works but we were not able to contact anyone for assistance. We would stay there again.
