Interesting museum to visit. We absolutely recommend a guidence tour, since you'lll hear many interesting details. The place was easy to find.
Great museum! Informative and interesting to understand the forgotten war, development of Patpong and much more.
Got great history lesson of the area and learned about the people that shaped the Patong area. You also learn a bit more about the development of the sex industry which was unique. Easy and interesting tour with narration and visuals as aids. Highly recommend if your in the area.
The wealth of knowledge provided is insurmountable. Even as an American, I learned American history I was never aware of. If you are in Bangkok you need to stop by and tour this museum.
This was a very disappointing experience and I would not recommend it. We had an American tour guide called Randy. The way Randy told the history of Patpong was predominantly just about the Americans who had visited (Jim Thompson, CIA soldiers and American military, multinational companies, and David Bowie). The curating also reflected this focus. The tour was about 1 hour or 1.5 hours long and we had no choice but to take it. When we wandered off (bored) Randy snapped and wouldn’t let us look at the exhibition alone. Randy made some very strange comments in support of US military war criminals in Laos. The tour ended with a very transphobic display, which forces visitors to guess the genitals of Thai women. When we refused to play the game, Randy got very defensive. The perspectives of sex workers was also absent. This could be such an incredible museum of an area with rich history but Randy felt like an inappropriate guide and teller of these stories. The curating felt very disconnected from the Thai people who live and work in this area.
Lovely tour. great guide really. educational an interesting and they keep it fun and silly too. Learned a lot about the history of Bangkok and Americas weird influence over the years. war has many odd and lingering faces.
We had a really nice time with our guide, he explained us the history of Patpong and was very funny and interesting to listen to
We had a great tour of the hidden side of the city and a community. Our guide was friendly and very informative.
An astonishing history, well told. Not the story you expected by any means, rather it is mired in family intrigue, war, and celebrity.
Impressive! Nice and friendly staffs :) I have really great experience there. I’ve been there twice. First time tour guide gave us a lot of informations it spent 1.5-2 hours. And the second time I went there again just for discussed one depth in Thai girl perspective (So we spent time there 4 hours in total) As a Thai girl, this museum is so different from museum I ever been in Thailand. I love the way this museum narrates us from historical sex workers into hidden story of US army in Thailand to modern day sex workers. All of things related and connected dot to dot. This museum has a lot of foreigners (more than Thais) from twice visit and i think it is underrated. One of the most impressive thing is this museum provided COVID vaccine in pandemic for people in this neighborhood and helped this community in many ways. Really appreciated.
The guide Randy was great - definitely use the guided tour for a full experience! Fun place and lots of history to unpack. Just go or come lol!
This is an interesting museum about the history of Patpong, with plenty of interesting exhibits, and surprises in the story. There are also lots of instagrammable shots that you can take. The bartenders (two Austrians) were friendly and chatted with us. The guided tour was also interesting, but could be improved though. During the start of the tour that we had, we found ourselves standing in front of an old map of bangkok for about 20 minutes while the guide went on and on without a pause. I was wondering whether we had an option to explore on our own as the exhibits had captions (which could be in larger font). Nonetheless, if you have a keen interest in history, this is certainly highly recommended and do drop by if you are heading to the Sala Daeng / Chong Nonsi BTS area. Tip: if you are with family, head there during daylight hours, you can also have lunch at Took Lae Dee nearby. Here are my suggestions for improvement regarding the guided tour. First, ask the visitors clearly, would you like the tour or would you like to explore on your own? Second, because of attention span, keep the guided tour to 45 minutes maximum and move on to a different exhibit every 2-3 minutes or so to sustain interest.
The museum contains the history of bangkok that never been introduced, plus the great stories of Patpong Silom area now and then. Love the miniature street they created. My guide Khun August is awesome, he explained everything vividly. And there’s a cool bar inside the museum. It’s really a must visit spot in Silom.
Back in the day our laconic American host was in the centre of the action. He gave us an authentic and detailed history of Patpong - from farmland to go-go bars largely thanks to the CIA, who under the guise of a travel agency, covertly ran SE Asian US operations from there. Great stories and imaginative exhibits, including a lovely diorama of the two streets, catch the ping pong (it’s all in the wrist action) and guess the celebrities who’d been there.
I cannot fault any of this tour. A fascinating story of the history of the Patpong district told by our brilliant funny American guide. Some amazing exhibits, models, posters and even a couple of interactive games. The adult side of the area also well covered. We relaxed with our included beer in the recreated bar. I definitely recommend it.
Absolutely wonderful museum highlighting many very interesting periods of Pat Pong, Bangkok and Thailand history. Our guide was so informative. There are plenty of interactive displays, along with photographs and stories. Easy to get to via BTS Sala Daeng.
This was a great experience. I didn't really expect so much to be exhibited at the museum so the visit was a pleasant surprise and very educational. The staff was so friendly and very well informed. I'll be recommending this to friends.
A must see insight into the evolution of Patpong and the integral part it played in the Vietnam and Secret war’s. Finding out a bar we go to, used to be the CIA headquarters in Thailand was pretty cool. The guide was brilliant. He was friendly, Communicated well and obviously had a person insight into the rich history of Patpong. We were also treated to meeting “Sucky”, who is without doubt the most interesting man alive. He had some great stories to share with us. The whole staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. You really have to visit if you are in Bangkok.
I had an awesome experience at the Museum the other night, even drank a few beers during the tour.. I had been before when they first open and it was informative, but now it is so much more. Lots of interesting history. The staff is awesome. I really miss Patpong. It was always my favorite hangout in the 90's.
Amazing experience as a Bangkokien who walk pass Patpong street quite often. I've heard about this museum for a year but just have a chance to visit after they reopen again after COVID situation. The experience and local history that visualized more stories of culture, economic and war history gave me a surprise of how we know our local history very little (with interactive and entertaining way). Different from traditional museum, I would recommend any travelers to enjoy 1-2 hrs with great narration from a guide tour and exotic space within the museum!
Thorough guided tour (in English or Thai) with loads of very interesting information regarding the history of Patpong. Our guide (forgot his name!) was extremely knowledgeable and provided lots of great information. This museum is like a contemporary art exhibit meets the History Channel. We discovered this gem on a Chris Parker YouTube clip and just had to check it out and meet Apple. This museum is not for the family but it's not over the top, either. Yes, the Red Light aspect of Patpong is covered but there's much more to the museum than that. The very rich 19th-21srt century history of Patpong is captured with lesser known details that extend to other nations. History buffs and artists will enjoy this museum. Some interactive displays are neat/quirky, whereas the short video on Laos was quite solemn. Getting there was easy on the MRT (BTS, gets you there, too), with a 10 minute walk from the station. Admission price was well worth it (and we forget our free drink!). Overall, we highly recommend it. Thanks, Apple...see you in December!
An excellent way to spend an afternoon. We had a tour with Randy who knows his stuff and communicates his passion for what he is doing. It is in many ways a trip through 20th century Thai society and if you are less interested in the red light stuff, there’s plenty here on the Vietnam war and Laos and how the city evolved. Great to do the tour so it all hangs together, have a coffee and then do in your own time. Fascinating stories.
This museum is excellent very interesting, I would recommend it to anyone just give yourself one hour before you go hit the nightlife and take the tour. My tour guide was Andy from Italy he was very knowledgeable on the history of Patpong and how it came to be, he made the tour fun. It has a 10 minute video and interactive models, it is definitely worth the hour. I highly recommend it.
A really great experience. The museum is super interactive and the guided tour was just awesome. It was great to see beyond Patpong just being a go go bar street and discover all its hidden secrets around the CIA, David Bowie, the secret war of Laos... The museum also has a great bar !!! If you want to discover another Bangkok, completely put of the box, this needs to be in your to do list !
Nice experience that i never knew about this area, nice staff and good service. I really love this place 😍
It's place that can open-minded for many people and present image of this place like the other side of patpong.
This museum will show you that patpong has much more facets than just being a gogo bar street. In a guided one hour tour you will learn about Patpong being the first Western style business center, the Cia headquarter for the unofficial part of the Vietnam war, about the notorious CIA agent Tony Poe ' the ear collector ", about the Patpong family being instrumental to the founding of the Siam Cement group and many more intersting facts. After the tour you are free to further explore the museum on your own and try their interactive items.
Very interesting museum, highly recommend to visit the place. Our guide was very good, learned many aspects about Thailand and Patpong. All the Team is very helpful and friendly. Thank you to my guide for the knowledge you brought to us.
Really enjoyed our experience in this museum. It’s not what you expect, in the ‘red light district’ of Bangkok you expect something like a sex museum in Amsterdam. But this museum has a lot of interesting insights into the history of Bangkok development, CIA stories , secret wars, as well as the fun part of how the concept of Bar girls was brought into Bangkok and all the experiences you can get in Patpong. Definitely advise to visit it . And thank you to Andrea who gave us an amazing tour
Super informative, quirky and quaint museum. I think it's definitely worth a visit in the daytime before you go to Patpong, as the history is extremely eye-opening and interesting! Tour was lead by Andy who painted the picture of these crazy times of Patpong for me in a super informative and fun way, they also give you free coffee at the end, a must-recommend for anyone in the area!
I have read great things about this relatively new opening, and my expectations were met, and even exceeded. Entertaining, revealing, quirky, and unexpected, both for people with knowledge of Thailand, Bangkok, and Patpong, or newbies. Special thanks to our guide, Andy, who instructed us while also entertaining us, thanks to his 'insider' knowledge of the nightlife scene and beyond. Recommended.
I strongly encourage everyone living in Bangkok or visiting the city not to miss a passage by this amazing small museum. You will find yourself immersed in the unsuspected Patpong universe. You will spend an exciting hour there, for sure!
Cozy and well organized museum. The tour is full of discovery, hospitality and laughter!! Best place to know about recent history and entertainment of Thail and Southeast Asia. I visited there early afternoon only with femel friends and it was fun!!
Shows that's more than meets the eye in Patpong. Fascinating history of the area. Great exhibits and archive pieces. Was in there for 2hrs! The knowledgable and friendly guide Andy makes sure you get to see and hear about the background of how it all came together and the story isn't as straight forward as you think. Well recommend and worth every penny for entry price for sure.
My guide, Andria, was quite helpful and informative. He undoubtedly gave us a wonderful and memorable experience. Be sure to ask for a tour guide in English for great experience!
We had a really impressive experience from here. I’m Thai and it’s great to know more about this legendary area. Randy and Andy treated us real nice and didn’t made the boring at all. Thank you so much guys!
Patpong street - a usual bubbling point of this is city ! As the "redlight district" always had its important role in Bangkok. Invited from a friend, we got a great museum tour personally guided by the "Curator" ! We have been surprised and overwhelmed what he told us - good to know, when you did not touch this are of this city before. Very informative, nice made ! Another part of Bangkok - you should visit the museum to know and learn more about this city! Its OPEN NOW !
It was nice to visit here. Better to know Patpong street from the history until now. Very welcoming staff
Beautifully curated museum charting the history and culture of the PatPong district. Lots of interactive exhibits and beautifully lit and well presented information. My tour guide Andrea was very informative and knowledgeable- all in all a well spent afternoon!
During our stay in Bangkok we weren't sure if a visit to Patpong would be our thing but at the same time it seemed a shame to miss. We found the Patpong Museum online and were reassured that we could visit the area and get various angles without being overwhelmed. Online tickets are discounted and include a free drink. We made a great choice! Our guide Andy/Andre was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and we really appreciated the mix of history and modern. The museum is very clean esthetically pleasing, informative and had interactive exhibits. It doesn't take a super long time to visit and afterwards you can still hit up the bars, clubs and night markets with suggestions from the museum as well as a stamp card that rewards you a free t-shirt. If you are 18+ we would recommend a visit!
A great small museum and an excellent guided tour. Andrea, my guide, took his time to explain the interesting history of Patpong in detail. The tour had a good balance between the history and the overview of the modern times. A few entertaining interactive displays. Highly recommended
I had a visit to the Patpong museum and was positively surprised. The museum was quite informative about the history of the famous area and it's connection with the secret war in Laos and the Vietnam war later on. There is also quite some information about the infamous Tony Poe who spent quite a lot of time in Patpong. Andy the tourguide was very helpful and took his time to share interesting background stories and to answer my questions. There is also a amusing section about what Patpong is also famous for, which is the GoGo bars. After the visit, Andy and the staff gave me some advice for other interesting places to visit in the vicinity. All in all, very nice experience!
If you're looking for a slightly different view of history from the area and a very influential guy I can recommend Apple's guided tour of the Patpong Museum.
Having lived in Bangkok since 1980 I know the Patpong district quite well However,my guide Andy is a great source of information about the history, development, and the many colourful characters who made Patpong world famous. A great collection of memorabilia make for a very interesting couple of hours topped off with a complimentary coffee expertly made by Andy - he is Italian after all!
We were looking for something different and fun to do and discovered the museum. Andrea our guide was really knowledgeable and we really enjoyed every part of the tour. Great intro to the area. Loved the boy/girl guessing boxes and I scored an 8 for ping pong!
We were very impressed by the museum and our guide Randy. It was so interesting to learn about the history of the area and how it came to be. All of the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the interactive components were excellent and such a nice touch to have a free drink at the end with zero pressure to buy anything. We would highly recommend this as a must see when you’re next in Bangkok!
Very interesting place to visit! Well worth it. I now have a new appreciation for the women of Thailand!
We arrived too early to check into our Airbnb off of Lumphini Park, and had to find something to do. Not really knowing anything about the Patpong area or the museum, we decided to give it a try because it was close to us on Google Maps. This new museum is great! The origins of the infamous Patpong bars and clubs are fascinating, and the museum does a splendid job of transporting you throughout its story. It’s only a few months old, and the exhibits are stylish and engaging. The staff were so lovely! After our visit, we got our free coffees and stayed to chat with them for a while, and learned even more about Thai culture. Highly recommend it for adults. People 18+ are welcome, some nudity/sexual content is displayed.
What an awesome time at the museum. My friend and I were nervous about it before but the museum and the tour guide were really informative. The museum is interactive. I highly recommend the visit.
