The meeting point at the beninning and the transfers were very well organized. Pui, the guide, was very clear and precise since the beginning of the tour. During the bus transfers, all the precise instructions regarding timing and meeting points were provided, and historical and everyday information about the places visited was explained. Overall, everything was well organized.

Itinerary
This market is nicknamed Talat Rom Hup in Thai which means the "umbrella pulldown market". It is one of the largest fresh seafood markets in Thailand and is centered on the Maeklong Railway's track. Whenever a train approaches, the awnings and shop fronts are moved back from the rails, to be replaced once the train has passed.
When you arrive at the market, see the amazing array of vendors in their boats, selling fresh products, from fruits and vegetables to prepared dishes. Explore the floating market at your leisure for about an hour and take time to try some authentic Thai foods, such as Pad Thai, Mango Sticky Rice, Boat Noodles or Coconut Ice Cream sold along the canal.

What an experience. We had a private tour that we arranged with a taxi and driver. We was dropped off near the location and given clear instructions on where to go and return. We noticed there was a board up in one of the shops giving the time of the train arrival and departure. Sadly we did have enough time to actually do train ride as well but just experience the train coming on tracks and how the market traders react and move their wears about. We sat on nearby track and had a cold drink each. Then ordered some snacks and yet another drink. When the train is due the tables are collapsed and have a framework they sit in and customers are encouraged to stand up into the restaurants off the tracks. Suddenly you hear the train coming all the market traders pull their goods in and protect the tourists. This was just an amazing experience. Highly recommended
Fun trip, the railroad is unbelievable and the boat ride was really cool. Travel to and from not bad. Tim is a great guide.
Too many people. Stupid behaviour from tourists as they try to get a selfie as the train approaches. Lovely place great to see the train gently manoeuvre through the market but need to limit tourist numbers as the place is being destroyed by mass tourism.
We had a great trip despite the high traffic after holiday. Our tour guide kept us on schedule and made sure we got to see the train passing into the market.
It was great and i loved it! What went wrong was the drop off… it is in the center of Bangkok and we took 1 hour to get out of there :(
The pick up point for the train should be scheduled at a nearer departure point. By the time the train got to us there was no seating available. We had to stand for half our plus to our final destination. The drop off point, MBK Center, was a nightmare for pickup at that time a day. My Grab was not even allowed in to the pick up point. I had to go hunt him on the street. Bus should return travelers back to the original pickup point. The tour itself and locations were fun and informative.
We had a great day , and the tour operator ( Sun Country Tours ) was fantastic. The bus was very comfortable and our tour guide for the day was well organised , friendly and great fun. Very well run operation, especially in comparison to other experiences that we had in Bangkok. It was a little disappointing that the tour did not return us to our starting point as noted in our itinerary, and we had to find our own way back to River City to get a transfer back to our accommodation. This was the best run tour that we went on whilst in Bangkok
Guide Ari was exceptional- very informative and helpful. View was limited thru train market due to small windows on train. But was worth the experience. No time to really look around. Floating market was fun and interesting. Very different from anything we have ever done. Would do this one again for sure. Fun buying from merchants and buying refreshments from other boats on the water. A floating community.
We had a wonderful time. Had lunch at the floating market, which was fresh and inviting. Boat ride was good. We were on hand propelled, more realistic, and slower. Good shopping to be had. Maeklong railway was very interesting. It's fascinating to see how the store operators change their stalls when the train comes and leaves. Good day's adventure.
Our guide Kwan was very informative and helpful along the way. She made sure we all knew where to meet and what time. It all went to clockwork. Enjoyed the day immensely. Better than my expectations. The train and boat ride were highlights. Driver did a great job too. Would highly recommend. The tour was at a great pace and there was no rushing.
If one thing can sum up Thailand and how mad it can be this trip is the one to go one. The guide was excellent and always made sure we were looked after.
A really great day out. We met at River City and then commenced our journey in a 12 seater bus with good air conditioning. It took about an hour to get to the first stop where we boarded the train. Train trip was 30 mins and we could see the areas where they farm salt. The train markets were busy, I can’t imagine how crowded it would be in high season! After the train market it was back in the bus and off to the floating market. We spent about 30 mins in the boat and purchased some delicious food as we went around the canals. There was 45 mins for lunch and further browsing and then back in the bus for the return trip to Bangkok which took about 1.5 hours.
Interesting place to be... Roughly around 1 hour + from Bangkok via taxi. Booked Grab and driver offered his service to go back to Bangkok for 1000 bath. Which I find its fair, as he waited for us almost 4 hours ++, initial fare from Bangkok to Maeklong was 780 bath Came at noon so that we can catch the 1430hrs train passing the market. At the market, lots of souvenir to buy. Most tours offers morning but I was told around 3+, most shop are going to close thus shopkeepers are willing to bring down the prices since there are less tourist. Which is very true. Bought dried mangoes and fruits Roughly 100 bath off for each packs and even the commemorative t shirt goes at a lower price without bargaining. Prior to trains passing the market, we bought cool smoothies and we allowed to stay in the shop with "priority" best views while non customers have to line up outside the shops within the safe zones... Fun and interesting experience for everyone... And yes, the passing train is within arms length from the shops... The locals shopkeepers are very friendly and very accommodating. They even offer us to try the goods that they sell.
Last year in Vietnam we also went to the train market but just to see when the train came in. I loved this experience in Bangkok because we started by taking the train that way you see the market as you come in by train then you get a chance to shop whilst another train comes in later. So this experience was so much richer hence I loved everything about it. Oh the market was just a cherry on top but for me the highlight was the Maeklong railway market.
Sadly Bobby the your guide’s English was not quite up to scratch. Trip could be shorter with unnecessary stops. Also the information we were given was that your finished at same place it started. We booked our accommodation accordingly. It DID NOT, we were dropped at some shopping centre 300 TB from our accommodation. However, we did enjoy the tour.
The tour was exactly as it was described. We went by air conditioned van. There were 9 people in our group. We had a driver and a tour guide. First we drove to a site to board the train. It took maybe an hour driving. We all boarded the train and luckily, we were all able to get a seat. The train was open air… no air conditioning. We went through the market on the train. Then we got off. The train continued down the track. We entered the market. About 15 minutes later, the train reversed direction and came through the market. We watched the vendors pull everything back so the train could pass. We were given about 45 minutes to walk down the tracks to the end of the market. Note: The walking surface between the rails and outside the rails was very uneven, and not well suited for a walker or wheelchair. Also, the heat index was over 100°. Additionally there is no breeze and they were cutting up fish in the market and it is very aromatic and crowded. Next we went to the floating market. It is essentially a canal loop with vendors on both sides. Some vendors were on boats, some on land. You could also walk through the market. There is one boat behind another and another so there is really no time to shop. On the left side of the canal were gondola type boats. On the right side there were motorized boats. They were loud and the motor exhaust filled the air. There was an umbrella over you, but there was no breeze. We were given about 30 minutes to shop the market. We returned to the van and it delivered us to the MBK mall were it was easy to get a cab back to our hotel. Note: we had a bit of trouble finding the original point of departure. The cab dropped us off too early and we walked a few blocks until we found the travel office… but it was closed. Another family showed up in the same location, one of them wandered around the corner and found the actual point of departure.
Fantastic day out. Loved the train ride to the market and watching the train depart through the streets and the market getting back to normal. A unique experience. The floaring market ride was also incredible seeing the floating stalls from the water. I would highly recommend.
Really great experience, although very busy and the traders were full on and beer overpriced in the floating market. Our guide was so friendly and attentive and getting the train was such a good experience. We didn’t like that the trip ended at a different location to what was on the previous details, 20 minutes further away to our hotel. This should be documented in the details from the beginning.
A fun experience on the train ride into the market. Interesting concept with vendors displays just inches from the train when it travels by. The floating market is really cool however they should ban the gas propelled boats in favor of paddling. Too much CO in the air. Our guide Mr Aekaphol was the best. Very helpful to find a way back to our hotel after finishing the tour.
A really brilliant day. Excellent tour, very interesting, plenty to do and see. Tour guide great. Would highly recommend.
This tour was very well organized and a lot of fun. We highly recommend doing this exact tour while in Bangkok.
The trip started in a minibus from central Bangkok. Grab is a cheaper option than taxis if you aren't walking distance Our guide was good fun and gave us a commentary, with very specific timings and meeting place to return to after stops. The railway market is so cheap and a really fun experience. The train itself is 50 years old, so not the hight of comfort, but a great way to see rural Bangkok You get to experience the journey through the market as well as being in the market as the train sets out on its return journey 10 minutes later The bus then took us to the floating markets. We had an hour for lunch/browsing, then rejoined our tour to get in a longboat through the canals to see fixed stalls and stalls on boats. You just tell your boat captain if you want to stop and look at anything The group then got back on the minibus back to Bangkok, with the option of being dropped off at MBK shopping mall or back at the original meeting point This trip was a really special insight into the less commercial side of Bangkok and we thoroughly enjoyed it
Now that I have experienced this tour, I do not recommend. The trip is longer than the time spent at the markets, however, there’s not much too see or buy. Go to the Paragon mall market to buy your local fruits, better quality.
Great experience but it was very rush. Would have been better to have spent more time at each activity. There was not even enough time to eat lunch.
Overcrowded. It was very uncomfortable due to the sheer number of people there. Some effort needs to be made to limit numbers to make this experience better for all.
While the excursion felt a bit condensed and hurried it was very well planned lead by seasoned and experienced tour guides. What was missing a but was an itinerary of the tour. In turn, the tour guides planned it in a way that allowed participanted to have front row seating for the tour.
Tour Guide Sara was very engaging. Excellent driving by ?Nord . 9am start from River City. 3:15pm drop-off at MBK Center. Amount of time spent at the Railway Market and the Floating Market was perfect. Overall experience was wonderful.
This company do not do hotel pickups and made that quite clear. They also made clear you would be dropped off at the same pickup point. This was not case, we were dropped off 15-20 drive away. That isn’t acceptable. The guide said people were informed of this but we were not. Hence reduced star rating. We enjoyed the train and floating market but it’s all a bit rushed. It takes 1.5 hours to get there and same to get back.
The tour operator was GREAT! She was punctual and so friendly. We hoped on a bus very early in the morning. Drove an hour and jumped on a train for 30 min to ride into the market ( Our favorite part) We arrived at the railway market and had about 30 min to explore It was SOOO BUSY you couldn't really shop for anything if you wanted to make it to the meeting spot onetime. It was a very touristy place. The railway market was absolute CHAOS. A few minutes before the train came people started scurrying to get into a spot to not get hit. Everywhere we went to stand we were being yelled at and told to move. To the point where the train was coming and someone from a cafe came and pulled us in there so we weren't just standing on the tracks. After that we jumped back on the bus for 20 min and made our way to the floating market. We had 45 min to wander around before we met back up to ride the boats. It was less crowded so you could easily walk around and shop or eat. When it was time to get on the boats it was a madhouse. There were so many boats on the water going different directions. boats were hitting each other. You had to constantly be on the lookout incase the front of someones boat was coming towards you so you could put your hands out and redirect it from hitting you. This lasted 30 min. We couldn't wait to get off the boat.
This railway market is a must visit place if you’re in Bangkok. I booked a tour package that included railway market and floating market and never regret it. It’s a once in a lifetime experience. I booked the tour from my hotel travel desk. The highlight of the tour is that we get to board the train and stopped at Maeklong train station. Passengers on the train were greeted with loud cheers and clapping and the constant photo takings and videos from tourists who had lined up along the tracks to welcome the train. The feeling is amazing!! My family and I didn’t expect that! Here at the station, you can finds lots of stalls and shops selling all kinds of souvenirs and local food. After spending some time here, we head next to floating market and also had a great time too. Do book a tour to railway market and floating market if you’re in Bangkok. Highly recommended!!
We had a lovely time, Bird is a very good guide. However, I would recommend going for a longer tour, as we only had 25-30 min to roam each market and it was not enough.
It was good to see the sites, but you could quickly see through the facade of this tour. It was basically to try to get to spend as much money with their specific vendors without giving you a real tourist experience. For example, at the Railway Market, they literally gave us 7 minutes at the market - just enough time to buy a smoothie from the most overpriced smoothie shop at the whole market. At the floating market, as soon as we got off the boat, we were escorted by the tour guide into a “private room” with counterfeit luxury bags. Honestly, l would go back on my own and skip travelling with the company because all the tour guide kept doing was just selling things to us.
This was a great day out in Bangkok. The train ride coming into the markets was truly something that has to be seen. Then to wonder along the track and witness the train departing from the side of the tracks! The floating markets another interesting time meandering through the canals and having locals show their wares.
Thoroughly enjoyed this day out. The train to the market was fun and we were able to experience both sides of the station. Inside and outside of the train. The floating market is an experience. But relaxing.
We enjoyed this tour however we felt the time spent at the Maeklong train market was far too short it would have been nice to have time to shop and have lunch here rather than the floating market. The ride in the boat at the floating market is great but better spending more time at the Maeklong market
A very well organised trip. Included both catching the train into the market and then watching it leave. A definite sight to see. The floating market was an experience too! The guide was very attentive and looked after us well. Great day.
The railway market was the best part of the tour ! It is chaotic and orderly at the same time ! Enjoyed every bit of it! Floating market was a new experience
Maybe not recommended for people who are claustrophobic and sensitiv to odours. For us an experience we would not want to miss.
Trip started and ended on time. Our guide pointed out that it’s high season and if we chose the train ride we would likely have to stand. Group elected to stay in the van. I’d have preferred the train ride as it’s why I booked this tour. Train market is quite authentic and lots to see but we were mainly rushed to see the train arrive. The floating market exists for tourists only. The boat ride is fun. Lunch here is very affordable
The best was our tourist guide. Nice and experienced. All was as scheduled and in program. Although that are both touristic places kept and existing for tourists only. The train at least remains some memories. Floating market (this one) terrible experience. Just to sell more and no real people or homes.
This was a great day with a great guide. Taking the train to the market to see how it feels & then being on the side of tracks as it goes by was so cool. Tim, our guide gave us great info on what we’d see on the train trip through the countryside. Then as he led us through the market to see the next train go by he brought us to a fantastic spot to view & experience it. Next the long boat by paddle versus engine was fantastic. The engines are sooo loud!!! What a fantastic opportunity to see a true market on the canal/river. And of course our guide Tim gave us lots of insight on where to make purchases & even more importantly where to avoid. My only feedback is it would be nice to have more time to wander the markets but given the drive time to & from Bangkok-& the Bangkok traffic on the way back-I understand that there is only so much time to experience both the train & floating markets. This is a must see adventure when in Bangkok!!!
Both the railway and floating markets were fascinating places to visit. Our guide, Khun Sara and driver, Khun Aok were both very helpful. The mini-bus was more comfortable than some experienced, too. Khun Sara supplied lots of information and also introduced us to a small village temple - quite different to many others - as we were early for our train. This trip took us to a station ahead of where most tours alight so we were almost guaranteed good seats - a real bonus. Everything was arranged well, including boat trip at the floating market, plus the lunch stop there (a small extra charge) was good. Tour finished in central Bangkok by a main BTS station to make return hotel travel easy and avoid over-priced taxis at the River City start point - again very thoughtful. This was a short day trip, so allowed plenty of time to explore in Bangkok on return, too.
Started on time. Delivered as described. Guide very concerned with safety and wellbeing of group. Throwback experience to local life as it was in Bangkok 30-40 years ago. Be aware that it is very hot humid and need to be physically agile for this experience.
We had a great trip and were so pleased we went. The tour guide was great and we were very well looked after all day. The train ride to the floating markets gave us a real sense of life in Thailand and the experience at the markets was incredible. The food we had was enjoyable too. The only thing I would have changed was to suggest a hotel pick up or a more central meeting point to navigate to in Bangkok.
Great experience. Our tour guide Victor was very good in leading the group and providing critical info at each step. Thank you, Victor.
It’s really crowded and be there for taking photos with a train. It’s really far from bangkok, not worth your time. I rather to spend my time seeing beaches and hiking.
We recently visited the Railway market and Floating market near Bangkok. Our tour guide Mindy was awesome. She explained all the historical background about the markets on the way to the markets. Both the markets are an hour away from Bangkok. We went on the train to the Mae Klong market from Ban Kalong which was a great experience. The railway market is worth visiting. After that we drove for 20 min to reach the Floating market. You can get lot of good food and souvenirs (haggling is allowed) at the floating market. Overall we really enjoyed the 6 hours tour. Highly recommended.
Trip was a very long drive, 2 hours both ways for an experience not really worth the driving. Guide was friendly and helpful but same as with a lot of guides in Asia her knowledge of English was not sufficient to be guiding. We weren't able to make our initial booking since one of us got sick during the night prior to the tour, so we had trouble rebooking and had to pay an additional cash fee of 1000 Baht.
This was an amazing experience! Victor, our guide, was great!! They did not pick us up at the hotel- like we thought- and we had to find transportation to the pier and back from a drop off point. Just something to know. It was a lot of driving- maybe 3-4 hours total to and from from Bangkok. But worth it. Bring Baht, no one takes anything other than cash. Bring sunscreen and bug spray- it was hot!! There is a lunch stop, but lunch is not included. The tour actually goes via longboat through the canals. We had a great time! We rode the train too, which was fun.
