Close to Bangkok’s urban sprawl of towering skyscrapers and expansive shopping malls lies a hidden jungle waiting to be explored. Bang Krachao is known as the capital’s ‘green lung’ due to the expansive space that provides an oasis of serenity in a city of nine million. One of the best ways to explore this area is by e-scooter. This silent form of transportation takes us through a location that resembles a provincial rural Thai village, with rustic wooden homes framed by dense overgrowth. The single-track pathways are tailor-made for e-scooters. Points of interest include venerable temples and traditional markets. This excursion starts with a rendezvous with the guide at Khlong Toei MRT station, followed by a short walk to a nearby market to buy fresh fruits. We then get a tuk-tuk to a pier and board a local ferry across the Chao Phraya River. This short boat journey feels like a portal to another world – no high-rises and no traffic! After a riding demonstration, we set off, with a stop for refreshments and lunch at a riverside restaurant. Experience a different side to Bangkok on this fun excursion.
