This was a very well planned tour. Ken, our tour guide had very good knowledge around all aspects of the history. He also organised around other tourists so that we did not get caught up in crowds. The view of the bridge at the lunch stop was great and the food offering was varied and very tasty. There was no aspect of the tour that was rushed which made it relaxing. The Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre was very well done and you could spend a whole day in tge area and probably still feel like it wasn't long enough. Our driver was always ready to pick us up and the vehicle we travelled in was very comfortable. Ken was the best tour guide we encountered in Thailand 🌟 Highly recommended

This tour is an excellent opportunity to explore the work on a Thailand /Burma railway line by Japanese forces using Allied POWs in World War II, including the cemetery, the JEATH Museum, the bridge over the river and the Australian memorial and the cutting at Hellfire Pass.
This tour really demonstrates the conditions the greatest generation endured. It is also, a wonderful way to see outside of Bangkok to the rural parts of Thailand. Ken our guide was fabulous, switching the order of stops to make sure we skipped the crowds. He even arranged “train sitters” to save us window seats so we did not have to rush to board. Every attention to detail was given by this company and the guide.
If you love WW2 history, and engineering feats, you will enjoy this immensely. It was beautifully organized and I could go at my pace. It’s a big day.
A very educational and emotional day. The history for me was overwhelming. Our guide Rudy was very knowledgeable and let us take the day at our pace. Would highly recommend.
Knowledgeable, flexible (we added a river punt boat to the trip easily and the ride was excellent), and Maha was always looking out for us. Driver did an excellent job and the ride and vehicle were perfect and clean. Restrooms at the Hellfire pass museum were also 5 stars - clean 😉
Absolutely amazing day. Neera and Sam were full of information and the places we saw, you couldn't ask for anything better. Recommend this tour and company to everyone. Prompt, well informed and just awesome.
Must see WW2 sites for anyone interested in history. Knowledgeable guide and safe driver. Delicious lunch included.
Neera was an attentive your guide, and the perfect mix between providing any information requested, but also mindful of providing us with space. We never felt rushed, but made great time to join the rail journey. Neera scouted to find us good seats. She provided snacks as well as the main meal. We had fun trying some durian on our way home, discovering it in all its different flavours. Our driver, Mr Sam, was a great driver and we felt in safe hands for the duration of the journey.
What a day! Ken was fantastic as our guide. He is a wealth of knowledge and provided us with a great experience understanding the history of WW2 here in Thailand. Having the chance to walk over the River Kwai Bridge and then catching the train over was great. Ken managed to secure us window seats on the left hand side of the train - which are apparently the best! And they were! Lunch was delicious and plentiful. Hellfire pass was a moving experience and thankful to have plenty of time here. Thanks so much to Ken and his driver for a great day.
Our guide Jill was brilliant really looked after us the whole day. She was extremely knowledgeable. Our driver Sam was also very good. So glad we booked a private tour really looked after us
I think it's important for Australians to visit and know the history of the Death Railway Bridge over River Kwai.
This was a long day but so worth while. Lead by our guide Jill, who was attentive to our needs all day, from getting prime seats on the train, water, helping with photos but because of her knowledge and allowing us time for contemplation, which was much appreciated. The Australian Army were present at Hellfire Pass, rehearsing for their ANZAC day ceremony, which made the visit more special. The way the cemetery was laid out was beautiful. I would highly recommend this tour. Once again thanks to our guide Jill and driver Ray, for taking such good care of us.
A well planned, interesting and varied excursion which included a short ride on the river to the base of the Kiver Kwai bridge as well as the train ride along Hellfire Pass. A though provoking experience due to the nature of the history it entailed but very worthwhile nonetheless. The short time spent at the well maintained cemetery to remember all the brave personnel who had lost their lives was much appreciated.
We had a great day with Jill and our driver. Only 2 of us on the tour, so it was basically a private one. Good mix of things to do during the day, although there is a fair bit of driving involved due to the distance to the sites from our central Bangkok Hotel. The air-conditioned bus was a godsend in the 35 degree C heat. Jill had everything very well organised and was able to answer all our questions regarding the tour and Thai culture. Very moving to visit the war cemetery, the Australian museum and Hellfire pass itself. Would highly recommend this tour, with this company.
This tour was with Amazing Asia Tours and our guide was Ken. We could not have asked for a better guide. He was very knowledgeable, patient and attentive throughout the day. The tour itself was excellent, and Ken gave us plenty of time at each stop to view, learn and reflect about what went on here in WW2. I highly recommend this tour
Amazing service from start to finish. It's a 12 hour day with a 7 am start but worth every minute. Our guide Oh was extremely knowledgeable & helpful throughout . Also our driver (whose name escapes me) was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. Around a 2.5 hour drive out of Bangkok to Kanchanburi & the Jeath Museum, then on to the War Cemetery & the River Kwai bridge - we had plenty of time to walk across - following that was a 1 hour train ride on the death railway itself (over the bridge) followed by a great lunch at a local restaurant. Another 45 minute drive from there to Hellfire Pass which was another wonderful (if harrowing) experience. Last stop was a visit to a waterfall. Then a 3 hour drive back into Bangkok. Chilled water was available all day in the vehicle. Overall an excellent experience. Highly recommended.
This was a very comprehensive tour, starting at 6:30am until 6:15pm. Which included the Jeath museum in kanchanaburi, walking across the Bridge over the River Kwai, the war cemetery, riding the train along the ‘death railway’, a buffet lunch, visiting the Hell Fire Pass and Interpretive Centre, and Namtoksaiyoknoi water falls. The tour guide ‘Ken’ and driver ‘Sake’ were quite outstanding. They constantly went the extra mile, booking widows seats on the correct side of the train, providing a golf cart to take us down to the Hells Pass and ensuring we had a fantastic day.
Firstly this is an all day trip but there is time to rest on the 2 hour drive back on the early evening. Take a hat, sunscreen and good trainers or walking sandals. I booked for me and my wife who has no knowledge of this historical peice of engineering and its sad significance along with Hell Fire Pass and the Thai/Burma railway in general, so I was sceptical she would enjoy the day. I am a Veteran myself and do like Military history so this was a no brainer for me to visit whilst in Thailand. Ken the guide was great and you can see his passion for the Veterans that helped build this and the suffering they endured. The JEATH Museum is very old and unkempt but still has a small amount of items recovered from mainly the camps POWs were kept. The bridge over the river Kwai itself was fantastic and to walk across knowing the blood sweat and tears it took to build this bought it home to think that at the time there was nothing but jungle that surrounded it unlike the buildings today. The ride of the train as well on which is just a very small part of it also makes you realise how much track was laid. The wooden bridge also is an amazing feat of engineering foe back in the day. A meal is laid on after the wooden bridge which was great and there were drinks supplied by Ken in the vehicle which are kept cooled. Lastly was Kanchanburi CWGC Cemetery. Having visited previous ones in Normandy and Belgium I knew what to expect but it blew my Wife away with how well kept it is. My wife enjoyed the trip thankfully saying that she was glad she done it amd did now knew about what happened in the Far East and South Asia during WWll. If you do like your Molitary History and even if you have no knowledge of the Thai/Burma railway this trip is for anybody and I would defjnately recommend.
Early morning pick up on time great experience and knowledge of the trip we booked Ken and his driver show much consideration for his guests his time is yours though out the whole day
This was a wonderful and sobering experience. We loved the private tour because we beat the crowds who took the train from Bangkok yet we were able to ride the train for an hour and the driver picked us up at the train stop. Because we drove, we had plenty of time to see everything. The JEATH museum, the cemetery, the bridge, train ride to one of the cuts, the hellfire pass museum and even the waterfall at the national park.
We had a fantastic experience with Ken, our guide, and Mr Yoon, our driver. The day began at the JEATH War Museum, followed by a visit to the River Khwae Bridge — we arrived at the perfect time, just before it became busy. We then spent some time at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, which was very moving, and it was comforting to see how well the graves are preserved. Next, we took a train ride along the Death Railway for just over an hour, seated in excellent spots where we could get a good view of the wooden bridge. During the journey, Ken surprised us with a beautiful bookmark featuring our photo on the train — taken by the lovely female railway staff member who had also been handing out water and cake to passengers. Lunch was served at a local restaurant with a wonderful view of the wooden bridge. Afterward, we visited the Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre and walked the Memorial Trail. It was incredible to see, though deeply sad, and left a lasting effect. We finished off with a stop at Saiyoknoi Water Fall. Overall, it was a full 12 hour day from start to finish, but I can’t think of a single part I would remove to make it shorter. A big thank you again to Ken, whose incredible knowledge of the history behind each stop made the experience even more meaningful and to Mr Yoon for his very comfortable vehicle.
Must-do tour for those who want a greater appreciation of the history of the Death Railway and WWII in Thailand. The guide and driver were both fantastic and made sure everything went smoothly on the day. Cannot fault this experience at all! 10/10!
Excellent tour with a lot of interesting information. Ken is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about this. He is very thorough and made the day great. His English is very good which is helpful. We highly recommend this tour!
My wife and I had a private tour, which was excellent. Our guide, Lucky, was very good. It was obvious that she had done this tour many times before, and knew her stuff. Bat, our driver, was also excellent. It was a long day, scheduled for 12 hours from pick-up to drop-off at our hotel. So long, that we opted to skip the last stop, the waterfall, and hopefully get back to the hotel sooner, but that got us into the middle of Bangkok's maddening rush hour traffic. There was no mention of this, but be sure to pack your own toilet paper. I would recommend that the tour be done in reverse if possible. The first stop was Kanchanaburi. 2 hours from Bangkok. Since we skipped the waterfall, our last stop was Hellfire Pass, don't miss it, but the return from there was 3 hours and longer due to traffic.
This was a sacred site visit for us given we grew up knowing the story in the film but not the reality. Extremely moving. Rudy, the guide was excellent - very knowledgeable and a great sense of humour. We had to jump out of the car in traffic at the end and didn’t get the chance the thank him as much as we would like to have done. Thanks to Rudy, and driver Jack, a great 11.5 hour day.
Amazing day and well worth it! Full 12 hour day from pickup/dropoff in Bangkok, but plenty of stops to make up for it.
My husband and I spent a great long day with Maha as our guide and Kampala as our driver. Maha was very attentive and knowledgeable. As Australians this is a very memorable and moving tour and not to be missed on your visit to Thailand.
This is a fabulous look back at WW2 history. Fairly long day for us, due to our hotel location in Bangkok. But, we greatly appreciated the hotel pickup/dropoff service.
Booked a 1 day private tour to the River Kwai and Hell fire pass. Was an amazing day, Ken was a very informative Guide, very knowledgeable and spoke very good English, our driver Mr Yoon made us feel extremely safe. Highly recommend tour.
Terrific tour. We hit all the high points and were accommodated al the entire way. We could have adjusted the time and sights to exactly what we wanted. It was perfect!
Be ready to spend a full day out of the city. The experiences are diverse and make for an amazing day. This tour goes beyond what others offer and if you are only considering one tour, this is the one to take. Ken, our guide is knowledgeable, has everything arranged to a “T”, and will make any changes to the plan should you so request/require. Highly recommend this experience.
Ken was a top tour guide gave use plenty of time to look at our stops and was very helpful Would recommend to other Australians to give it a go
Absolutely amazing and moving my guide and driver were soo good and kind would recommend this trip to anyone! So moving as
This was a great tour. It was detailed, informative and very moving. We covered the bridge on the river Kwai, the death railway and Hellfire Pass
A very involving trip. Took a whole day starting 7 am back to Bangkok at 7.30 pm. Best for travelers impacted by the second world war, somehow. I chose the trip because of its historical fame. Not least because i watched the film. Very happy that I reached the famous location - travelled nearly 10,000 km! My travel bug I suppose. Great guide in Ken. He was knowledgeable and articulate. Very pleasant person too. He was accompanied by a trainee, Reuben and driver. A great support team for us. Ken did most of the talking but occasionally we chipped in sharing home stories etc. Be prepared for the long drive. There were drinks in the van. A good lunch when we got there and good organization to help us see all the highlights. Not for those looking for thrills.
Ken our guide provided us with an experience that we will never forget visiting Hellfire Pass and the Bridge over the river Kwai. Plus the Commonwealth Cemetery in Kanchanaburi. His knowledge was impressive and we also thought our driver on the tour was great too.
AWESOME ... Guide Ken is great and he never misses the train ... very knowledgeable and patient with my wife and I ... would highly recommend
Mr Ken, was awesome as our guide, arrived on time, added humour to fact and really made us feel welcome. Nothing was too much. Fully recommend the trip and ask for Mr Ken.
First thing to understand is that it is a full day tour with 6 hours travel time. Visiting each of the sites and discovering the history clearly brings home the bravery and suffering of the people involved; Australian, Dutch, English and American POW,s a like but never forgetting the Asian workers who suffered equally. An amazing tour that invokes emotion and pride.
Wow, this was an excellent trip, very poignant and was an eye opener into what these guys went through. The guide “Ken” was outstanding, very knowledgeable and delivered a great summary of all the places we visited. He had a great sense of humour and nothing was too much during the trip. Every request was carried out and would certainly recommend the trip.
Amazing day with a first class guide Ken who was really knowledgeable and out driver yoon was a very safe and courteous driver highly recommended
This is deeply moving, and physically challenging at one point in the day. Well worth it. Ken is a very thoughtful guide, who understands how feelings are as important as facts. His Thai perspective is so very helpful and his knowledge base is impressive.
If you enjoy modern history & want have a really great experience, this private tour is it . Our tour guide (z) & our driver were a lot more than we could have expected, their knowledge & insight into their country & history was impressive. You really want to do yourself a favour and do this tour. The whole day was at our pace & what we wanted to do, the included lunch was delicious. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 from 2 very happy 🇦🇺, We are now book our next private tours in northern Thailand, Cheers guys Highly recommend Trip Advisor private tours
After reading all of the so positives reviews we decided to take this tour, because we really wanted to see and know more about the Bridge. We did not have Ken as our guide, and maybe that was the big issue. Our guide was friendly but not informative at all. Also the promise water on board was not available. Ok she bought us 1 bottle each but that was it. We started at the bridge itself: no info but the sign and we got 30 min to walk the bridge. But no info or stories. She waited at the car. Then off to Hellfire’s Pass: one hour drive and almost there we heard that it was closed due to the earthquake the day before. Understandable, so 45 min drive back to a trainstation for the train ride. The ride was nice, but again nothing from the guide. Not even some explanation about the monks train wagon which we almost entered by accident. Then lunch was fine. After that we went to the Jeath museum, again no info, she only pushed the button for the movie. (Btw this museum is just a rebuild barrack with some pictures) We asked for drinks and she pointed across the street where we could buy some) Then the cemetery. Again she waited at the car. (Other guides walked with their customers). And that was it. Another long drive back to Bangkok, and again if we didn’t ask questions she would be silent most of the time. So I think this could be a worthwhile trip, but apparently only when you get Ken. For us it was lacking the information you expect when you book a private tour.
This is a fantastic and must do trip. Ken our tour guide was exceptional and our driver Mr Yoon was lovely. Nothing was too much bother for them and we never felt rushed to complete the excursion. it was a long day but well worth it. We were well looked after with water and comfort breaks and the air conditioning in the comfortable van was welcome. The trip included a one hour train journey which was very picturesque and interesting. A visit to the the Kanchanaburi war cemetery was very moving and the Bridge didn't disappoint. We had a very nice lunch and also visted the JEATH war museum. We can't recommend this trip highly enough.
Great day and so well organised our guide and driver were so kind and helpful. Arranged different food for my husband.
We were picked up on time at our accommodation in Bangkok and greeted by our very welcoming Thai guide, Ken. He and his driver went all out to provide us with a day to reflect on and remember. We were very comfortable in the vehicle and cold water and refreshments were supplied in an onboard esky. Ken was very organised, professional, efficient and caring. Not to mention his English skills and historical/geographical knowledge. The places we visited were heart-wrenching and Ken and his driver did their very best to cheer us up and care for us. The train ride was organised perfectly by Ken where we had window seats and he advised us where and when to look at sights of interest. You will not miss the train if Ken is your guide!! He also arranged a lovely lunch spot with a reserved table with a view of the rail line. Excellent. We asked to add some beer to the esky for the long return journey to Bangkok and this was cheerily accommodated. It was a long emotionally-charged day that was made special by the tour team from Amazing Asia. Thank you. The only thing we suggest you let future guests know is to wear suitable shoes to walk the Hell Fire Pass track. I had sandals on but would have worn sports shoes/runners if I’d known it was so uneven.
This was an amazing experience. Ken, our guide, went out of his way to make every part of the excursion tailored to suit our interests. He knew all the best places to stop, the best spots on the train for photos, and was just so lovely conveying the history of the trip and the importance of Hellfire pass (especially for Australian tourists). I would recommend this trip. Our driver and Ken made sure that we experienced everything (and you will never miss the train with Ken!).
Fantastic and educational trip with Ken, our guide for the day. What a lovely fella he is. From the start to finish on what is a long day he made the trip run smoothly which is a credit to him and Yuri our driver - I would highly recommend this trip as a must do!
