Wat Pho, the official name being Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwaramahawihan, is the first grade royal monastery, regarded as the most important one during the reign of King Rama I of the Chakri Dynasty. The importance of this is due to the King having managed the restoration of Wat Phodharam, an old monastery from the Ayudhya period, it re-established as a royal monastery located near the GrandPalace. Some ashe of King Rama I was kept under the pedestal of the principal Buddha image known as Phra Buddha DevaPatimakorn in the main chapel. Wat Pho is an important landmark in the Ko Rattanakosin area. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful Buddhist fine arts and the existing Thai intellect which has descended from ancient times, taken as immortal careers knowledge. Gold-leaf covered Reclining Buddha (46 meters long). This temple is also considered the birthplace of traditional Thai massage.

There is an admission fee, but I was bragging to my daughter about this reclining Buddha. I am amazed how well preserved it is. But amongst all the other Buddha temples I have been to…this is the top place to go for me. Not a lot to see. Very close to the palace and Wat Arun. Must see.
It is always a privilege to honor the Lord Buddha. The site is well supervised and accessible. I will visit it again on all future trips to Bangkok
I think the entire site is more grand than the reclining Buddha itself. So many fantastic temples and buildings that are worth entering, while the structure of the pillars gets a bit in the way to appreciate the scale of the Buddha.
Very good experience with this group. We had a driver pick us up at the hotel and transport us to the site. There the driver bought us our ticket and helped us inside. I would recommend this to others.
Great experience. Transfer was on time and very professional. They bought us tickets at the gate and escorted us to the entrance. Highly recommend.
Amazing temple with giant reclining gold Buddha and pleasant atmosphere. Due to jet lag I left hotel at 6am to visit flower mart, then headed over to Wat Pho. I killed time watching sun on the river and over Wat Arun directly across the way. Decided to see if I could buy tickets early as planned to bundle morning sites (Wat Pho then Grand Palace) before my 10:30 food tour which would be tight since they open at 8 and 8:30 respectively. However to my delight, I was allowed in early! It was just me and giant reclining Buddha for some 1:1 time and an unforgettable experience. Within 10 minutes school buses of children arrived for field trip so really recommend you go first thing.
The best ever private tour. Tigerwood helped made my The Grand Palace visit special❤️🤗 Highly recommended.
Go in a group. Solo travelers, like myself, get left if you don't want to go to factory to shop. Then you have to find your way home.
Our driver was an hour late to our hotel. Apparently he got lost. I sent a msg to the office several times. First I was told 15 mins late, then 30 mins late … finally driver showed up an hour late. This is unacceptable service. We were supposed to meet other family at Wat Phob who left because we were late one hour and they were uncomfortable standing in the hot sun for us . You need to hire drivers who know their way around Bangkok. Your service is unreliable and your office unwilling to refund even a portion of what we paid. We will never use your service ever again.
Great experience in the whole palace. Unfortunately it was too hot for us to stay ñonger, but had time enough to enjoy the place.
The tickets are free for local Thai residents, but expensive for visitors. Getting to Wat Pho is easy by metro and is a short walk away from Sanam Chai station on the MRT blue line. Best way there is to take a metro. Avoid taxis or tuktuks are there are a lot of scams
We enjoyed our short trip to Bangkok recently. YTS provided us airport transfer service. The driver was puncture and polite and the vehicle was comfortable for 5 adults. They were flexible to arrange an English speaking guide to take us to the Grand Palace and Wat Pho on the day and time we wanted in short notice. The guide, Cha Cha, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and got a good sense of humor. YTS was very responsive in communication through out the engagement and we highly recommend YTS.
Pat was the nicest driver, she’s very joyful and even gave us fresh water. The temple was amazing. I recommend this experience
Best experience ever! Pat our driver home was just so beautiful, thoughtful and informative! Reclining Buddha and Wat Pho is a must when visiting!
Magnificent statue of golden reclining buddha. Come early as it gets very crowded starting 11 am onwards and difficult to have good photo angles.
Its was a amazing trip, with beautiful things. I wouldnt go during raining season, otherwise it was un cool little trip. Ms Pat was really kind
Miss Pat was punctual and super friendly, as there was only two of us she kid to took us around a little detour and showed us the monuments where we lived, giving us a brief history for each one which was great! She provided water before taking us to the entrance of Wat Pho. She was lovely to take a picture of us a couple. Wat Pho was amazing and definitely one of a kind experience. Overall, highly recommend using Miss Pat and her teams services and visiting Wat Pho.
I had a fantastic time viewing this temple and it gave me a totally different perspective on Buddhism and temples as a whole.
Driver was on time and everything went smoothly. It was nice to see the history of Thailand. Even thought it’s only one way you can easily grab any form of transportation back to where you need to go.
This was a very unique temple and Buddha statue to visit. The reclining buddha is massive and takes up pretty much the whole temple. It was very crowded but still worth seeing, and there are other areas to walk around in as well.
Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho) is one of the tourist attraction in Bangkok city and it is situated in the city. It is one of the largest Buddha statue and more than 45 meter long and the posture is of sleeping lion. Entrance tickets are there and the vihar is situated in a large area.
This was handy in the fact that the ticket included a pickup at the hotel and a drive to the temple itself. Please note that with this ticket they have to pick you up at your hotel, this is not just an entrance ticket.
Such an easy way to visit a temple and get there before the crowds. No worrying about which train or where to Go. It’s a beautiful temple. We also had a tour inside .
It was beautiful place and have met in 2022 when I had visited in BKK, The place has lot of stupa and temple beautiful in the Pagoda Compound.
This is a beautiful location filled with history and culture. Getting in is easy and well arranged, with multiple entries making it smooth and quick. This also spreads the visitors out around the compound making it appear not busy, and resulting in virtually no queues. You are left to your own devices to explore and view the amazing buildings and various information on display. There are one or two cafes, and souvenir shops which add to the experience but are small enough to not make it feel like a cash cow. The queue and process to see the reclining Buddha is easy, and the line moves at a good speed. With plenty of photo opportunities to see this magnificent monument. I highly recommend this experience!
We incorporated this with our trip yo The Grand Palace as its literally next to each other. A lovely space to contemplate if you need to, lots and lots of Buddhas and temples where you may want to take a moment. The reclined Buddha is something to behold if you are into that sort of thing. Cost 300BHT £6.80 pp.
Amazing and very long. Good to see and forest for the kids to appreciate. Really glad we saw it. Definitely worth a visit.
An excellent visit to the Reclining Buddha. I would recommend allowing at least 2 hours for this once you enter the grounds, additional to the travel time to get there (Bangkok is in constant traffic jam). The temples and area are beautiful to admire and take in. The Buddha himself is exquisite.
It is a 20 acre complex that will take at least a half day to tour. The grand vista is the over 100 ft long golden reclining Buddha. He is massive in size and grandeur. Well worth the 400 baht foreign entrance fee. Bring your umbrellas personal fans and sunblock because it will be hot. It will also be crowded espy at the temples of which there are many at the complex. You can see the Hindu influences in the Buddhist statues that are in some of the temples.
We probably went at a busy time but it’s very overcrowded and unorganised. Don’t know if you actually need to pay to get into the area, if you want to see the buddha it’s 300bht each, but we weren’t even checked and people were pushing in the queue the whole time. Wear something that covers your shoulders and knees and wear shoes you can easily slide off as you need to take them off to get into temples. Feel like it’s something you have to go to when coming bangkok as it’s interesting to learn about the religion, history and thai royalty. Loads of stalls with food and drinks. I will give them one thing, when we went in to see the reclining buddha, there was a queue to have a photo with it & there was a guy who made sure nobody cut in front.
Wat Pho is a must see if you are visiting Bangkok. Spectacular Buddhas including the reclining Buddha. We did hire a local guide once we arrived, which enriched the experience. The only negative was that the driver did not know the tour price we paid included entrance tickets. He took us to the ticket office and said we owed 1200 bhat for our tickets. I showed him our receipt, and he called the number of the tour agency, who did confirm we had paid. He was very nice, but his van was so beat up on the outside that our hotel wouldn’t let him park it out front. It was fine on the inside.
Awe inspiring! I do not have the words to adequately express my sense of wonder about this site. Truly a site to take in, whilst in Thailand.
The reclining buda is really amazing. You have to take many photos. Women should go with knees covered and shoulder covered too
Ever we had a short time for visiting this temple in Bangkok but we felt amazed at seeing the beautiful decoration inside this temple.
Beautiful temple with great architecture and insight into Buddhist culture. I would recommend as a busy while in Bangkok
Fabulous Buddha temples with several Buddha posture statues from Reclining Buddha, elevates sitting Buddha, lotus pose sitting Buddha and standing Buddha to name the least. Take your time and soaking this beautiful temple.
Best driver and coordinator Mr 9! He made my day extra special! The reclining Buddha was so beautiful and so were the kitties that the monks look after! Thank you!
This was our favorite temple complex. There was a lot to see when walking around and the Buddha is huge. They also have a massage spa on site which was nice.
Reclining Buddha is astonished. Very beautiful. One of the main attraction for n Bangkok. You cannot miss.
As with all temples, dress accordingly covering up, although males seemed to be able to wear shorts and t shirts at this temple whilst females had to cover up completely. The actual Buddha is quite spectacular, and definitely worth getting some good photographs as it’s all very opulent and gold everywhere. A little pricey to enter but as expected wherever tourists are concerned. Worth the visit though as it would be a shame not to see this whilst in Bangkok.
Another must visit on a trip to Bangkok. I went after the Royal Palace as it is next door. Just go and pay at the door, not worth paying extra for a trip or guide unless you really want lots of historical info on the site. The Buddha is huge and reclining in a temple. He must have only just squeezed in-between the pillars to get in! Shoes off at the door for respect. A temple which is a must see for a visit to Bangkok and lots of interesting and decorative architecture.
I value this service as really bad and overly priced. I booked this service for roughly 25 euros (850 bth). Service included ticked and pick up. Ticked cost is 200bth, taxi - about 150 bth. After driving us to the place driver offered to come back and drive us back to hotel or wherever we want and we agreed. But after driving us to the restaurant he offered he insisted us to pay for the whole ride, while he did not stop the meter from the start while we should had included pick-up. When we got to the restaurant the prices was very high for Bangkok and definitely for the place. On our way the driver offered us to watch ping-pong show, which is okay but strange offer visiting the temple. So overall we payed 850 bth for 200 bth worth of service. And at the end over-payed for lunch. Most of this was our own choice but after buying something from tripadvisor I would expect more trustworthy partners of the company. Wouldn't book this way again.
Absolutely stunning. I do not have the words to describe my feelings. The staff is professional, and there was a respectfulness from the visitors that one typically doesn’t experience. The gong is cool too.
If I had gone by my own means, it would have cost me 800 bahts tops (2x200 bahts of tickets to the Wat Pho temple and less than 400 baht in taxi) : between 16 and 20 euros. Doubling that price seems too much to me since there's no guide involved. Still, great experience: the temple has a museum and a massage parlor and is full of nice cats. Staff is warm and friendly
Really nice to have transport and the entrance tickets taken care of. Driver arrived promptly and entrance we smooth. A bit annoyed that the driver kept trying to sell us on going to other landmarks and tourist attractions, given we only wanted to see the one Wat that day, which is why we bought the ticket for the one attraction.
Amazing! This is the best word to describe this place. You will be cleansed spiritually by the surrounding and the several statues and Buddha artifacts. The entrance fee of 200 Baht (with free cold water) is worth it in my opinion and you can roam around the area as long ad you like. One thing that you shouldn't miss doing is the 20 Baht good luck coins where you will put coins in more than 100 pots located at the back of the Reclining Buddha.
Beautiful Buddha but a bit hard to see all at once. I liked being able to put the coins into the cups but wish I knew more about it. It was nice to be able to walk all the way around and see The Buddha from all angles. By the time we got to see him we were very tired.
Visited as part of private tour which in my view is best way to see it, photos do not do it justice. It’s just magnificent, don’t forget to look at feet and back of head to appreciate the detail. Only mistake I made was going in afternoon when the heat was unbearable I recommend early morning visit
Probably best seen as part of a guided tour. This is a truely massive Buddha. Make sure you make it all the way around otherwise you'll miss the inscriptions on the feet!
