I do a lot of travel and landscape photography. So for my time in Bangkok, I wanted to photograph locations I wouldn’t have discovered on my own. And after reaching out to Aperture, I did a walking tour with Joshua. That evening, we started at the old train station, then wandered into Chinatown and finally hit the flower market. We did a lot of street photography. Capturing moments in real time. Joshua showed me some tricks with tracking fast moving vehicles. Doing candid portraits with the people working late night at the flower market. It was fun and Joshua helped me to push the envelope – – work on some new street photography techniques. And I ended up with some Bangkok images that the average tourist can’t imagine.

I had great time with Paul wandering around Bangkok. I enjoyed so much to discovered hidden gems with him. He’s super friendly and has always some nice things to add.
Paul was an amazing guide and photography coach. He led us to unexpected places and helped us to improve our composition and skills. One of the top tours of our trip in Thailand. We got some amazing shots and also saw a side of Bangkok we would have otherwise missed. Highly recommended.
Paul’s enthusiasm for photography was fantastic. Many excellent tips. I learnt a lot. That’s all I have to say. Thanks
I booked this tour for my last day in Bangkok. Two hours before we were supposed to meet, the guide canceled, and the company did not have any additional guides that could fill in.
I did the 3 hour Bangkok photo tour with Paul end of august and we started at 8am. I enjoyed it very much. Paul took me to a lot of interesting spots, quite apart from the usual places I would have walked myself. But at least as rewarding as the locations, was talking to Paul and getting some insights about different photographic topics. From how to approach people to finding a photographic style, it was very obvious that he is a dedicated and professionell photographer and his positive and dynamic attitude was great. I felt very comfortable approaching people with him, something I normally struggle with. I do recommend this tour, it was a real pleasure. Thanks Paul!
Worked with Paul Lukin for two different extended photo sessions at the end of April 2024 in the city. My first time in Bangkok. Both sessions started at 15:30 partly to avoid the extreme heat of the middle of the day. Very sensible as far as I was concerned. We covered architecture and street genres primarily with a bit of portraiture. Our locations were the railway station, Chinatown and an authentic Thai inner city area alongside Chinatown. Paul was brilliant, fully enthusiastic, a true street photographer, fearless, patient where possible, and persistent. We worked in is usual style of black and white which was so effective in Bangkok's back streets. I learnt a lot. Would work again with Paul again without hesitation.
This night photo tour was the highlight of my week in Bangkok! I learned more in 3 hours than I ever thought possible. Paul, the instructor, couldn't have been more friendly, knowledgable, encouraging, and amazing at teaching. I'm going to sign up for other Aperture Tours now when I'm in the cities they're located in.
This was the best photo tour I have ever been on. Bangkok is very photogenic but my guide took me down alleys and into places not normally seen. Paul was a knowledgeable, friendly guide. Thanks!
While on a one week visit to Bangkok I took the opportunity to sign up for the Bangkok Night Photo Tour offered by Aperture Photo Tours. Having done similar Aperture tours in London, Paris and Singapore I was aware of the likely quality of the tour I could expect and was not disappointed. Paul, my assigned Aperture Photo Tour guide, was knowledgeable of the best night photo spots to visit in the city and was valuable in suggesting the best compositions at each location. He also challenged me to try different approaches in capturing the scenes before us. An added bonus was that I was visiting Bangkok during Chinese New Year so I was able to take some great images that captured the festive atmosphere in Chinatown. I would highly recommend Aperture Photo Tours if you want to maximize your photo memories when visiting any of the locations where they offer tours.
I did the night photography session with Paul. Really enjoyed it. Paul has his own style but he doesn’t dominate and wants you to get the most of the event. He offered to take me where I wanted but when I asked him to take the lead, he knew exactly where to go to get great shots. He also has good technical knowledge, instinct and passion that he is happy to share. All in all, a really enjoyable, informative and fun session that I would recommend to anyone who loves photography but doesn’t know the best places. The Wat Arun night view was definitely the highlight.
Took a very short break in Bangkok and decided to find a guided tour to do some streets photos. It was my first time doing this style of shots, with a newly acquired fixed focal length 28mm f1.7 camera (and I used to travel with my heavy DSLRs and a few prime & zoom lens), and always a bit anxious about shooting photos of strangers on the street. The Photographer/Guide (Paul L) was very friendly and helpful, and showed many interesting and unusual spots to shoot. Overall experience was great, and highly recommended!
It was an amazing experience! And thanks to our guide Paul, I took a lot of wonderful pictures. ありがとうございます!
I booked on to the 8am 3-hour tour with Paul last week on a bit of a whim, but so glad I did. Paul clearly has a wealth of knowledge both in photography and in the local areas in which we explored, he's generous with the knowledge offering loads of tips and tricks, particularly once we'd explored a bit about my own motivations. One thing I was interested in was heading off the beaten track, which we definitely did, ducking down alleyways, local markets, residential buildings and areas in which, frankly, I'd be far too apprehensive to fully explore on my own. And with that managed to capture some great shots - in my humble opinion! Aperture were great with the pre and post tour communication, even sending out some technical notes following the tour, which will come in handy. My only problem now is getting back to Bangkok to shoot some more there! Thanks Paul/Aperture.
We did the 6 hour tour and it was very cool! Paul took us to places we would never find our selves. He also gave us good tips and tricks for how to take better photos. We would love to do it again!
I did the Night Photo Tour with Paul! It was an amazing experience. He not only shared his techniques on photography but also took me to the most amazing places from where the view of Bangkok was just stunning! I would recommend this tour for all Photography enthusiasts. Amazing way to see a city and capture the moments.
This was absolutely time and money well spent. Paul Lukin is both an excellent photographer and very generous with sharing his knowledge and his time. He is very personable, easy to get along with and is a very accommodating host and guide. Apertures oganization of the tour is first rate. They communicate well and give extremely detailed and easy to follow instructions on what to expect and how to meet up with your guide. I am definitely going to book future outings with them when I travel to a destination where they operate. Totally first rate and highly recommended!
Paul is an excellent guide, knowledgeable perseptive and able to adapt his tour to the photographic style of the client. Paul really knows Bangkok well, he took us to places we would otherwise never have found or knew existed. Paul opened our eyes to what Bangkok has to offer. He also a really good street photographer.
I had a really good time walking through the streets of Chinatown with Paul. He has great knowledge of the city and is a fantastic photographer. I learnt a lot and got inspired to go out on my own and explore more with my camera. Highly recommended!
We really enjoyed our street photography tour with Paul. He showed us parts of Bangkok that we never would have discovered otherwise and provided us with exceptional photographic opportunities in the limited time we had. We really got a true feel for the city from a local's perspective. If you want to see the city beyond the tourist attractions this is the way to do it. And Paul is great at personalizing the tour to focus on what you want to photograph. We would highly recommend Aperture Tours and Paul!
I booked an outing with Aperture Tours on the evening of my arrival in Bangkok. This may have been a mistake. When I met Paul Lukin, our guide, I was ready for bed. However, Paul’s enthusiasm energized me, and we had a fantastic time. Paul is an enthusiastic photographer and teacher, right away trying to assess our skill level. Luckily, I already had a basic grasp of exposure, so we got into photographing a nearby temple, then took a walk to Chinatown for some street photography and some long-exposure shots of passing traffic. At the end, Paul took us to the Grand China Hotel for a great view of Bangkok at night. That was over 3 hours of time that Paul spent with us, and we would have gone on longer, but my travel fatigue took over at that time. Absolutely recommend this tour, and would book again without hesitation (just not on the same day I arrive next time).
I was able to check out of my "normal" life last Saturday and spend six hours with an incredible photography teacher/guide and a great person named Paul, from the Aperature Tour company. We met at the Hua Lamphong Train Station in Bangkok. Paul had his Nikon and I had my Canon. He gave me a few initial suggestions and off we were for an evening of Street Photography. Within the first thirty minutes and after checking a few of my initial pictures, I knew this was going to be a very special evening. The conversation itself with Paul, all evening talking photography, and the passion a photographer needs to be different from the crowd, was worth the price of the tour. We ventured through the backstreets of Chinatown, took a Tuk-Tuk to the pier for Wat Arun and finished the wonderful day photographing a large group of Buddhist Monks gathering for prayer at Wat Bowonniwet Vihara. The combination of Paul, a great photographer and a great teacher with the wonderful Thai people, truly made it a Street Photographer's Heaven!
This tour takes you on street photography walks with an award-winning photographer! Paul explained some very usefull settings on my camera allowing me to easier do street photography and capture people. When I asked Paul to also include Hua Lampong train station, he immediately was exited too and we took interesting picture there also. Also review and discussion of my selected photo's (at end of afternoon) was very interesting and we exchanged many interesting points of view on captures and lightning. Totally recommended for anyone who wants to take street photos while in Bangkok. It is a valuable photo course to improve your street photography skills.
Paul is an excellent teacher - knowledgeable, focused, patient, and generous. He pushed me to explore a challenge and develop new photographic techniques in a gentle and helpful way. I really enjoyed my tours as they were about photography. As requested, Paul tailored my tours to included Iconic sites and none-tourist areas of the Bangkok. He gave important hints and advice but did leave the me with the freedom to develop my own personal approach. His help dramatically improved my skills as we got to see and interact with day to day life within parts of Bangkok and with some of the people of Chinatown. Paul is passionate about photography. I learned how to get more out of my camera while experiencing parts of Bangkok that not all tourists visit. Whether you are new to, or an experienced photographer, Paul will help you to become better while having a fun and interesting experience. I've taken many photo tours. Most are point and shoot activities where the guide takes you to an interesting location, points you in the direction and then moves on to the next shot. It's usually up to you to get a good result.
This tour takes you on street photography walks with an award-winning photographer! Paul has many tricks on how to get close to people and makes your subject stands out. Totally recommended for anyone who wants to take street photos while in Bangkok. It is a valuable photo course to improve your street photography skills.
Paul was an excellent guide and teacher. As a relatively new photographer, I learned a lot from him and had a great time in the process. After meeting Paul, we started our tour in Chinatown, exploring the alleys and buildings along the way. He was more than willing to personalize the tour based on what I was interested in. After Chinatown, we moved on to Wat Arun, where he shared more of his knowledge on things to look for to capture an interesting photo. He opened my eyes to things I never considered before taking a shot. It was a wonderful experience. I would recommend it to anyone that is considering taking a photo tour in Bangkok.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I met with Paul (he's a talented award winning photo guy) in the mid-day heat of Bangkok for our tour. Once we settled in and chatted over a cool drink we started to uncover a bit more of what I was hoping to see and learn. It took a little to find our groove but Paul started working in the photo lessons, looking for examples as we went. He's able to help teach camera techniques, but also guiding concepts of the most important piece of equipment - you! We walked through alleys, parking lots, apartments, markets, and only a few temples, looking for that unique person or story to shoot with the lens. Long day but pretty darn cool. He can help make it as touristy or raw as you are comfortable with, in this sites and vibes of the city. I loved the continued learning and wish I had more time! I recommend having a think about what you want to get out of the day and bring some cash along for drinks, snacks, tuk tuks etc.
