The Palazzo Hotel

I booked The Palazzo Bangkok expecting the accommodation to be as presented in the online listing. Unfortunately, the actual experience was quite different from what I expected. The hotel and room felt very dated and in need of updating, and there was a noticeable damp/musty smell in the room, which made it uncomfortable to stay in. The air-conditioning was also a significant issue. It seemed to operate at essentially one strong setting rather than allowing us to maintain a comfortable temperature. When it was running, the room became extremely cold, but turning it off made the room uncomfortable. This was particularly frustrating when trying to sleep. We raised these concerns promptly and also contacted the booking provider for assistance. Unfortunately, we did not receive a response before we had to make alternative arrangements. We ultimately checked out after only one night and moved to another hotel because we did not feel comfortable continuing our stay. The hotel manager did approach us when he realised we were checking out and offered to show us another room. We appreciated the gesture, but by that point we had already experienced the problems, made alternative arrangements and were checking out, so it was too late to resolve the issue. I think the biggest disappointment was the difference between what I expected from the online presentation and the actual condition and atmosphere of the property. On the positive side, the staff were polite and the location is convenient, but unfortunately those positives could not outweigh the condition of the room and the discomfort we experienced. I would recommend that travellers manage their expectations regarding the age and condition of the property and, if possible, check the room carefully before committing to a longer stay. For us, unfortunately, one night was enough and we had to leave.
